[Q] Help! DX Stuck at Motorola logo start up screen - Droid X General

I did a data wipe/factory reset and formatted my sdcard (using clockwork recovery) because I wanted to go back to stock for a while and when i rebooted it just got stuck on the Motorola sign. Now i can't even get to the boot loader to do a restore. Am I screwed? By the way i'm a noob. I was running Liberty 1.5 with sdk 2.2.1
I saw this link when I did a search, will this work with a Droid X? I dunno how similar the D2 is to the Dx. Please help! lol

Don't give up hope, there are a lot of smart people on here. Wish I had the answer for you. I'll be following this.

Ok so I downloaded RSD Lite and the SBF file I needed and the necessary motorola driver for my phone to show up on RSD. I loaded the SBF file but It won't let me click the start button to start flashing it. What's up with that? I pressed the ON/OFF button and the two volume buttons to get to the bootloader and it worked but I don't know what to do after that >< I only have one PHONE! lol

Ok so i plugged in my SD Card and it is completely empty. So does that mean that my phone is completely wiped also since I did a Factory Reset/ Wipe and I did a Data Wipe and User APP wipe thinking i would go back to factory reset. The problem is I don't know how to fix this. I tried looking for a topic that explains it as well as the D2 write up

Are you using rsd lite4.8 , that version worked well for me. Also make sure your phone is selected before you press start.

I tried the SBF flash with RSD lite but when i hit the start button and then it said FAIL. I redownloaded for 4 diff sites same file just in case the file was corrupted or something. Also tried extracting it into my C: drive since someone said thAT worked but didn't for me. Yes I had enough battery, yes i got to the recovery menu holding the HOME key and the power button at the same time and when i selected the factory reset option it says that the directory doesn't exist anymore. I think the message was something like "E: cache/recovery/command does not exist" and then I selected update.zip and said: "E: sdcard/update.zip directory not found or does not exist. cannot find file." Please help, I think I may have just wiped everything COMPLETELY. Including my onboard memory, not just my sdcard.

Also in the Android System Recovery <3e> at the bottom where all the command line is it says: "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command and when i select apply sdcard :update.zip. The command line reads "E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed, installation aborted. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

You flash the sbf from your computer using rsd lite not clockwork recovery on the phone, you must be in bootloader mode for rsd lite to see your phone, to get to bootloader pull battery replace battery, hold power, volume down, and camera at the same time youll see a small screen flash at this point release the buttons this should get you to bootloader, also make sure the sbf file is not zipped

Already did that! read above.
and YES i know not to use clockwork. i'm not a total noob. I've tried so many diff things. Please read all my posts before you just tell me to do something I've already said i did.

do a full sbf

Im sorry I did read all your post before posting that, I was just a liitle confused, you made it sound like u were trying to flash sbf through clockwork. And I was begining to think you were confusing the stock recovery with the bootloader (two seperate things) obviously rsd lite wont recognize the phone unless you are in bootloader, u had said you pressed volume and power to get to bootloader if so u would be in clockwork not bootloader, bootloader is power volumedown and camera... Just trying to help

I was in the boot loader when i tried the sbf flash. bottom line, all my files on sdcard and possibly my phone as well have been wiped but can still get into the boot loader. the problem is, i have tried so many diff things and none if them have worked.
Would putting all the original files from someone elses stock dx and put them on my sdcard make it so i can do a system restore? Has anyone tried that? It seems pretty logical considering that's where my all your files/directories go when you root.

Gonto droid life and read on how to do the full sbf, i havent done it in a DX in a while. Butit seems that you are missing a step somewhere, just key in sbf on droid life. Im not saying that you dont know how to do it. Just suggesting read up and make sure u arent missing anything

[Q] Need to sbf but can't get into Clockwork bootstrap

Managed to get my Droid 2 to a point where it will not go beyond the M screen on boot. I've tried pulling the battery over and over again and cannot get to the Clockwork bootstrap. I've also tried plugging it in and pulling the battery many, many times.
So I figure the next best step is to .sbf this mofo.
I've downloaded & installed rdslite, the USB drivers. Also have the Droid 2 .sbf files. Droid.Co_Downloader.exe pulled down RSD Lite v4.8 though rather than 4.7. And the link to 4.7 is now showing as invalid. Will 4.8 work for what I'm trying to do?
Also, when I plug in my phone RSD Lite never shows anything in the devices table. What are the steps to get my phone to show up? Plug in phone, power on, turn on RDS Lite? The tutorial seemed to be aimed at people who still have working phones in that it has you adjusting setting on the phone i.e. enable debug mode.
Sidenote, I know debug mode is disabled on my phone. Does that mean RSD Lite isn't going to work?
Help!
I think if you pull and replace the battery at the M it should reboot into recovery, and if it won't do that you can always try sliding out the keyboard and booting the phone while holding the X key to see if it will dump you into the stock recovery
Ok, some more reading uncovered hitting the physical keyboard's Up arrow and powering on will take the phone to the Bootloader and once in the bootloader my pc recognized it.
And then RSD Lite showed my device in the table but it didn't show up as the A955 it was Model "S Flash OMAP3630 MI".
Currently flashing DROID2_X6_2.2.20 .sbf, hopefully that pans out.
Thanks, I tried the battery pull thing A LOT of times. Never went into bootstrap. Not sure what's going on there.
I tried the stock recovery but got the Android-exclaimation mark icon which I presume means the stock recovery was F-ed up.
Really hope this sbf recovery works.
Ok, disaster averted.
Looks like rebooting into the bootloader was the secret. Hope that is helpful to someone else who's bricked their phone.
BTW, used RSD Lite version 4.8 and that worked with my Droid 2.

Glad you got it working! For future reference if you want the stock recovery, after you hold x and get to the exlamation point, press the search key on the keyboard. (The little magnifying glass) and it should take right Into it.

Me too!
Search key? Good to know. Man, that could have saved me quite a bit of time I think.
So now that I've restored everyting I'm going to risk it all and install the fission rom again.
It's less intimidating now that I know how to sbf restore. Hopefully I won't need to this go round.
Just follow the instructions as they are laid out and you shouldn't run into much trouble. Also, be sure to let the device sit for a bit after you reboot from clockwork, as it could take a good 15 minutes before it fully boots up the first time, and interrupting that could put you back at square one
Could you add [SOLVED] to your thread title please. Thanks

My phone is rooted and i cannot enter the custom recovery menu. I can get to the dx recovery. Tried sbf but rsd lite nor my pc will recognize the phone. PC says that the driver cant be located in bootloader menu even tho i do have the moto drivers installed. any suggestions on how to get it to work to run the sbf. I've tried all delete options in recovery menu probably screwed myself.
Hey there,
I had something similar back when I tried to root my evo 4g the first time, what I did was go to the carrier store (in my case Sprint) and acted like one day just started to act weird and they replaced it for its "factory defects"
P.S. Some stuff I learned was that I damaged the usb port.
GOOD LUCK

I have a paperweight and are in desperate need for help.
I was running 2.1 and rooted using the birdman method. So finally decided to upgrade to GB.
RSD Lite 4.9 - everything but text messaging was working on .602
Reflashed with .340 - text messaging not working but all apps worked fine.
Upgraded to RSD 5.4.4 and now my phone is a paperweight. SBF gets to the very last step and fails. Error switching phone to BP Pass through mode (0x70BE)
So go back to RSD 4.9 and try to flash sbf - same error
Created a linux cd to try and sbf GB.
Can't post links so world wide web dot droidxforums dot com slash droid-x-sbf slash 23638-linux-solution-your-windows-rsd-lite-problems dot html
It appears to complete with no errors, the flash completes, the cd boots into linux.
Now my phone is stuck at Bootloader 29.01. Can't do anything. I can access recovery but wipe, cache, factory reset just brings me back to the bootloader screen.
Bricked in need of help
heres the problem. i was running shuji rom on rooted gb.596. attempted to full sbf back to 3.3.340 after sbf completed successful i was unable to access recovery. i tried holding power and home button, but all i get is a android with exclamation point inside a box. tried holding search button as i usually do. but i can not wipe data or factory reset. Ran rsd lite 4.8 with full sbf 3.3.340 again and im still stuck at the sturdy click logo(custom boot logo). i would greatly appreciate any advice. or a link to wipe data from my computer.

U might try pushing the power button instead of the search button when the droid and exclamation mark are on screen. Hope that helps

Did you upgrade through SBF, or OTA?
What is your bootloader version?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
You can try the .602 sbf linux boot disk found HERE
It works every time for me and on any computer (that can boot from a cd)
D.
sounds like, judging by your bootloader version...you may be needing to find the 2.1 sbf, flash to that, take the OTA to gingerbread.... and you may have a little more luck with current roms once your bootloader is 30.0#
Just SBF. That will fix your trouble. Almost Impossible to "Brick" the DX.

[Q] Droid 2 bricked after GB update, SBF will now work for me....help!!

I installed Gingerbread that was recently released by team black hat, it was working perfectly for a few days, then all of a sudden.....im stuck at M logo. So i followed P3Droid's instructions , down loaded all the necessary files and tried to flash the 2.3.20 sbf file and nothing happens. When i connect my phone to RSD Lite (tried 4.7, 4.9) it does not recognize my phone, it says my phone model is sflash, not droid 2 or a955. I went ahead and tried to flash but when it hits 100% it says please manually power up phone and i do....still stuck at M logo. Im ****ed, my phone is a brick, this suck! Everyone elses phone I root works perfect, except mine.....please help me if u can!!
make sure you have the correct moto drivers on your computer and make sure they are for the correct bit of your OS also. whenever i sbf the phone reboots itself.
I got all the updated files...i found it weird that my phone dosnt power up on its own. In rsd lite does it show ur phone model or show it as sflash? Mine shows as sflash, thats what i think the prob is.

Mine shows up as sflash, but the SBF has always worked correctly, even when flashing back from 2.3
Have you ever SBF'd before, and if so, has it worked?
Also, have to tried getting into the stock recovery? Try to, and wipe data and cache and see if that helps any.
Also, you may try uninstalling the moto drivers, rsd, redownload and reinstall them, and also try redownloading the SBF file.

This happened to me, and I almost **** a brick. You need to hold down the power, and X buttons simultaneously, until the exclimation point in the triangle comes up. Then hit the Search button on the keyboard, which is directly below the X. If it's not working flash And again, and make sure you have the correect drivers from Motorola on your PC.

He already said that he cannot get into stock recovery.
Besides, GB stock recovery is different from froyo. Instead of hitting the search button, you have to hit vol up and vol down at the same time. Then use the volume keys to go up and down, and the power button to select.
I think i may need a working droid 2 to make sure the drivers all installed correctly.....a guy was helping me out and he thinks thats the prob. I had 2.37 bootloader and the full system sbf file, that didnt work so I went to bootloader 2.35 with full sbf, and still stuck at M logo. I hope its the drivers cuz before my phone bricked i diddnt have the latest drivers...Gotta wait a few hours till i get another droid 2 to see if that was the prob. Thanks for the suggestions.

If you turn it on while holding "dolume down" do you get the android+! screen? Some go into recovery if you touch the bottom right corner of the screen, but on some you have to hold volume up + down together. I had this problem today!
If you actually can't get to the screen with the android+! then I don't know what else you could do :-(

2) If (1) not working, you could use motorola own service update from their site.

don't worry about it, dude.
maybe you can try the way followed:
1.power off your defy;
2.remove the battery from the phone;
3.plug the usb cable into the phone without battery;
4.open RSD and chose one of the roms your listed, but 3.4.2-177-005 NORDIC prefered,
5.take the battery into your phone, now your can see the "connected" on RSD;
6.click the "start" button to flash;
7.wait the phone reboot completely, usually it'll reboot.
if not reboot, remove and on your battery, power on your phone, then press the "volume - and power" botton together, you can enter the robot screen, press volume up and down botton together, usually you can enter the recovery, then chose wipe 3 and 4, totally you can save your defy~~
Be sure to have enough battery while flashing..
Get the phone into bootloader (hold volume down when switch on) and flash an SBF like one from the list you've attached using RSD lite. Surely you have used RSD Lite before?

Try flashing nordic, if fails arabic, if fails, 2.3.3, if fails probably corrupt nand broken hardware.
Before and after every flash always try to access recovery (volume down) and WIPE. reboot and wait crossing fingers, if it fails to boot flash next sbf, try to go recovery + wipe; reboot, cross more fingers; if fails to boot try next sbf and repeat.
The reason for this is that you can flash a lower version but it wont boot, so you have to flash a higher and higher version until you get one that works.
I tried to help someone with this problem before to no avail!
Everyone who is saying just wipe in recovery, or just flash with RSD blah blah blah, need to understand that he CAN NOT access recovery and HE HAS flashed multiple roms using RSD 4.9, read the OP. Im convinced this is physical hardware failure or similar. We all know the drill to recover our precious defy's in the event of semi-brick ie: bootloop or corrupt code. However this is more than a semi-brick. We are talking about successful flashing and still no access to recovery and infinite M logo!
I walked more than one person with this problem through every known procedure to bring these phones back. Even using sbf_flash for linux doesn't work as this is the only way I flash anymore I don't bother with RSD anymore. The thing is it DOES FLASH SUCCESSFULLY just no recovery or boot!

OMG Exactly!!!! i have same problem and nobody seems to be able to tell me what to do, they keep saying same thing about trying various SBF's and Vol down + power method. No matter what SBF file I successfully flash with, i cannot get into boot recovery mode.
I have heard before from desperate users that they were able to revive their phone by flashing a full 2.3.4 sbf. This however comes with downsides of not being able to downgrade to froyo by flashing ANY froyo sbf's. There is a way to downgrade back to froyo but its a dirty method. Even after downgrade you can't just flash a sbf, you will always need to restore nandroid and flash fixed sbf

[Q] Help, I think I have REALLY bricked my defy!

About a month ago I installed a clockwork based recovery app from the market. I tried restoring and this failed leaving the phone unbootable.
Since then I have tried flashing MANY other sbf`s using rsd lite but this has made the situation worse. I think that I even flashed one for the defy+
Now all I get is either a blank screen or a M logo when I switch on.
Pressing power & volume down doesn`t work so I can`t access the stock recovery menu
I can access the bootloader using power & volume up so i can flash more sbf`s but I`ve tried most of them but none will boot.
BTW the phone was running cm7.1 before I had all this trouble and the battery has been fully charged (in another defy)
Is there any way I can clear off all the stuff I`ve been installing and start from fresh? or can anyone tell me how to get the phone to boot?
I have searched for a solution in the forums but most of the replies involve clearing the cache which I cant do as I cant get to the recovery menu.
Any helpful comments will be gratefully received
many thanks
Jeff H
Your flashs complete with Finish/Pass, or just "please manually power up this phone"?
If it's the later, read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38187413&postcount=2
Just stick to the most highest Defy+ sbf build, or just use DFP-231 build to be sure.

I flashed the DFP-231 sbf file as you suggested but it wouldn`t boot any further than the M logo.
I did get the "please manually power up this phone" message and followed the procedure from the link you gave
I can`t wipe the as I cannot get to the recovery menu.
Is there any other way to wipe the cache?

Nah, no other way than stock recovery for stock rom.
Just make sure your flash finished with Finish/pass, that'll make your stock recovery working again.
Wish you a best luck.
i flashed with this:
DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_GR_SIGN_UCADEFYEMARAB1B80AA004.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNGIBRRTCEE_P022_A022_Service1FF.sbf
but still no boot
Is this the correct rom?
cheers

I wonder if the following might give someone a clue about whats wrong with my defy
If I flash gingerbread rom either defy or defy+ then rsd completes with PASS, and phone will boot as far as the M logo and I can access the menu with power+volume UP
If I flash below gingerbread then rsd doesnt complete but gives `manually reboot` message. If I then power off and plug in again then rsd completes with PASS but when I reboot there is NO M logo and no menu on power and volume up.
I`m keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to revive my phone.

With DFP-231 rom, how about power+volume down to boot into stock recovery? I think you're just one step away from reviving defy.

No, Power + volume down doesn`t work, (ie nothing happens). Only power + volume up works.

Thanks, but it didn`t work. Still stuck at M logo. Obviously I couldn`t clear the cache before and between flashing

Thank you all for your helpful advice.
I have now sent the phone away for repair.
I spoke to the technician on the phone and she reckons it needs dismantling and a jtag repair (whatever that is).
But beware an app on the market, I think it is called orange backup, as it was after installing this and trying to restore the backup that I screwed up my phone!
