Does EC05 fix camera? - Epic 4G General

I did the camera fix on eb13. If I flash back to the original eb13 kernal and do the EC05 ota update, will the lowlight and sportsmode still be gone? If not, can I flash back to the fixed/patched kernal after EC05 update?
Thanks.

^ never used camera in EB13 or never used EB13 lol
The camera was way messed up.
Video recording lagged like crazy in low light and sport scene crashed the picture camera.
Unless you got the one copy of EB13 that didn't have these problems.

Yeah. They were fixed in all the ROM's.

I don't believe there is any reason to reflash the original kernel, as the ota should still work with just an altered kernel (and even CWM added) and overwrite it anyway, unless system apk's were removed (such as what happens when using the One Click Root 2.5.5), which in that case you will need to add those apks back in or just flash back to a full stock odexed rom before the ota update will work.
As far as reflashing the EB13 kernel over the newer EC05, it may work, but if it still has the camera issue, I would hold off until a new EC05 one is made with the fixes included.

Perhaps they worked a fix into EC05 itself?

OTA updates do a sanity check on the boot kernel and fail if modified. They have to as the updates don't ship with an actual kernel but a binary patch for it (which, is suspiciously the size of a full kernel).
I think OTA updates don't care about the recovery kernel though, they just copy the boot kernel over it on reboot unless the boot kernel itself was modified. Doesn't impact the update process.

If they did, it's not in the kernel--it's the same as EB13 with regard to the camera situation.
Now they might've fixed it in the Camera app/libraries, which is fine, although it means that EB13 custom kernels (with the camera patch) are incompatible with EC05 ROMs and vice-versa, even though there's very little difference between them.
Or they might've done nothing, in which case the problem still exists. If so, sigh.

What interferes with OTA updates?

So after receiving my replacement vibrant i've decided to simply root and use some of the apps i used to like. Assuming i don't end up breaking under pressure and flashing a ROM, will things such as morphs and changing system apps not allow an OTA to successfully flash and boot? I did apply a black bar mod with an accurate battery but other than that i've done nothing but app related activities that require root. So, say when the official 2.2 comes out, would i have to revert my framework to stock as well before accepting the update? Like I said, currently I remain on stock JI6 with the stock kernel.
I think you need to be completely stock, no mods, for an ota to take. If not you'll most likely brick
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
That's not true. You can have all kinds of mods. The only thing you need is touchwiz running during the ota time frame and you will get it.

yeah, but did it work? were your mods still there? i was told that having a different kernel will not allow the update to come through
My phone went to stock . Booted up with stock ji6 with ji6 kernel . I had to reroot even though my super user app was still there and reapply mods just like when you odin a stock rom . The only difference was my apps stayed in system/app and system/app-private and carried over with the update.

The ones that bricked were probably running voodo . That changes things... So if your running stock jfd and a voodo kernel your most likely to brick. But odin will save you.

It's recommended to use a dl09 compatible kernel, and if you haven't flashed one, that means you're probably on a DI01 kernel, which might account for your BT not working (and probably other things you haven't noticed yet).
I thought the dl09 all in one pack for odin had the kernel? Ok....now to flash a kernel. I have Imnuts -50 uv novoodoo kernel on my sd card. I may have to try it. Do any of the all in one packs for odin have the kernels in them?

Actually, I've no clue about that (not used an all-in-one pack before). I assumed (possibly wrongly) that you were still on the original kernel.

[TELUS FASCINATE] Gingerbread released today (Aug 19/11) over Kies

Really odd timing for this one, for me personally anyway. I finally gave up waiting yesterday and tried to install CM7 and bricked my phone. Panicked for a while, then finally figured out forcing download mode with VOLUP+VOLDOWN, connected to USB, while inserting the battery!
Anyway... it's now on Kies for Telus Fascinate. I was hoping this would finally fix GPS, but it's somehow made it completely unusable for me. 0 satellites after several minutes of looking.
Firmware version 2-3-3
Baseband version 2-6-35-7-T959TLKG2
Kernel version 2-6-35-7-T959TLKG2

Build number GINGERBREAD-LKG2
^^^ had to replace decimals with hyphens to appease the "no links posted by newbies" forum rule.
Also, superoneclick can't root this one. Other options?

I tried flashing Semaphore 1.5 - which is an i9000 kernel for stock JVR - and it wouldn't boot. Went back to LKG2 un-rooted for now.
I'm tempted to try CF-root for the i9000s, but given my recent bricking(s) I'm a bit tired of flashing back to 2.2. Anyone else care to try?
Though it wouldn't necessarily help with root - do you suppose zacharias.maladroit's Neo kernel would work with stock Gingerbread? Supposedly for CM7, but Gingerbread seems close enough.

Trying to root my Girlfriends phone, unfortunately, the gingerbreak exploit has been closed and the 3e recovery won't install unsigned ZIP files.
None of the custom kernels flashable through odin are going to work properly either. you will either end up with an unbootable device, or wonky buttons.
I'm not going to try anything until an odin flashable of the stock kernel is available.
Things like this make me glad I moved my personal phone to the the Nexus lineup.
I guess we wait for the next exploit to be found
Most people who try to install this are getting errors as soon as kies tries to update the phone, where it instantly shuts down and reports numerous signature errors.
Add that you can't root and I think it's borked all around. Thanks for nothing Telus.

I installed this update yesterday with no problems. Then I tried a rooted i9000 kernel which didn't work, so I had to flash back to 2.2 and update AGAIN via Kies. No problems.

The CF-root kernel link I posted earlier should theoretically work, as long as it's bootable. The kernel applies root, which remains even if another kernel is flashed. If it's bootable with wonky buttons then we could then flash another kernel to fix the button mappings. The problem, of course, is that there are no 2.3.3 kernels for the Telus Fascinate, except zacharias.maladroit's Platypus Neo (linked above) which is designed for CM7/MIUI and may or may not play nice with stock Gingerbread.
As I said, I'm sick of reflashing to stock with no backup, so I'm opting out of trying this route. Anyone more adventurous care to give it a try?

Yes, the update will overwrite the current rom and firmware. As to your current kernel messing with the update, it depends, I used the stock kernel w/ voodoo and I could update. First I disabled lagfix and root just to be safe.

Boot into clockwork recovery (VOLUP+VOLDOWN held while powering on) and there will be a menu for Voodoo with an option to disable. It's probably a good idea to disable it, as everything I've read seems to indicate that new roms with voodoo enable may create problems.
As for root - I can't see that having any effect on flashing a Kies update, but there is an option in superoneclick to unroot.

I reflashed back to the stock 2.2 Kernel/ROM just to be safe, and so far the update's great, way faster than before even without Voodoo enabled.
Others are reporting issues with trying to root on 2.3 so I would leave it rooted.

As for the speed of the rom, I agree. Its double the speed of froyo, and there is no voodoo. So I can't wait till there is a voodoo or somthing available, I would maybe have to tie it down.

Voodoo lagfix, I messed up my phone, help!

Help please!
Just installed voodoo lagfix.
And it is going through a bootloop... I see the Vibrant boot screen, then Galaxy S Gt-i9000 boot screen, and some lady saying "not enough space on partition." Does this loop over and over.
What did I do wrong?
How can I resolve?
Was running deodexed/rooted KB5.
I just went into recovery and I'm disabling voodoo, lets see what that does.
Well with voodoo disabled my phone boots up again.
What am I doing wrong with voodoo enabled?
strange, most of the stuff on my phone is gone, I don't even have an Android Market now.

It should be safe to flash this kernel with voodoo disabled if you're still on stock Froyo 2.2 KB5 deodexed. After flashing this, it'll take like 10 min to do its magic (you'll hear the woman's voice telling you the status).

98% of users no longer get random reboots on EI22. Samurai versions did cause reboots because he was taking the device to the limits of performance which a lot of phones can't habdle. Have you tried Shadow kernel? Do not OC or UV.
