So another day another lack of phone
Went to the Orange stores in London and was told....
"We will have the Desire HD on Saturday. Its being delivered to only 400 stores across the UK"

spoke to their customer service on Thursday and they said they should get it first week of Nov, worst case 2nd week. Hope its by the 1st

Ok so here's the update.
Went to orange shop last week who said it would be in last week.... lies.
So while walking past the shop in Woking thought I'd chance my luck.... One in stock SUCCESS!!!!!..... or so I thought.
When the assistant asked for £100 I explained it was an upgrade and he pointed out that you cant get it for free upgrade!!!!!!
Called customer service who said I COULD have one for free but they are out of stock......... so still waiting till next weeks delivery now.
Good news though. It's officially out now and anyone pre-ordering one from Orange will get a txt message when they are in stock. You then have about 4 seconds to call and order before they go out of stock again....
So wish me luck for next week. Hopefully should have one in my hands by Tuesday..... fingers crossed...

I enquired with Upgrades on Tuesday about the phone and they said they would call me when it was available.
Wednesday I got a call from the guy I spoke to in Upgrades he said their first batch had come in and he was sending me mine.
It arrived on Thursday at 1pm.
I didn't pay anything for the phone, I'm on a 12 month contract £40 as I upped my Internet to 1GB I could have stayed on £35 but only 500MB. Very happy with it so far, I've had none of the issues reported so far. My friend just picked one up today at the Orange Shop in the Birmingham Bull Ring

Do I simply say 'Vodafone say for £30 a month I can have a free one!' ? I don't really want to leave Orange I don't think. Is there any way they call my bluff and I'm booted?

I've just took out a new contact via phone with Orange, new customer, £22.50 pm 24 months and £99 for the phone, which I thought was ok
Well another week and another lack of f....ing phone...
So here's where I am with it.
As of this morning Orange customer service have said there is a batch in testing that will be released next week. As for price, I'm paying about £22 per month and I'm getting it for nothing... Customer service have the ability to waiver the £100 the shops are charging for the same upgrade... shops have stock but cant release it to upgrade customer for free as they have different rule regarding upgrades. ie if someone wants to 'pay' for an upgrade who are they to stop them.... pretty sad really but that's the world we live in. Hoping to see one by the end of next week... wish me luck.

I'd recommend always phoning through to Orange retentions when your contract ends. Dial 150, then 1, 4 then 2.
You need to do your research first and check other deals out there. Depending on how long you've been with Orange and what your normal usage is will depend on your loyalty reward.
I've been with orange for nearly 7 years so my loyalty reward is quite good. I managed to get the following deal:
24mth contract
HTC Desire HD for free
600 xnet mins
1300 texts
500Mb ("unlimited") data
5 photo messages
and a free 3G dongle with a 1Gb data usage per month.
For £22.50 per month
So it really does pay to phone them up! I am concerned about Orange's data fair use policy as 500Mb isn't very much. However you can pay another £5 to bring it up to 1Gb. Also, one guy said that they don't usually start charging you over the first 500Mb until you go over 750Mb and they charge you 60p per day you over which isn't too bad.
You need to say you've been looking around and are thinking of leaving Orange. Ask them what the best deal is they can offer and haggle if you like. They have some special deals that aren't advertised.

Personally, I don't understand why people buy the phone out right and then go SIM only- as it's not cost effective when compared to the deals you can get through retentions.

I got mine from Orange the day it was out. Their cs rung me to tell me it is in so I got it within a day.

I just got back from carphone warehouse here in sheffield and they got stock in today, so hopefully you'll see them soon wherever you are.
I stopped by in the Vodafone store and they said that they will have stock tomorrow (thats where I'll be shopping as I have a vodafone signal booster) so it'd seem that 'right now' is when its supposed to be happening. Not that you'd know... No-one seems to want to make a fuss *sigh*.
If anyone gets their tab today or tomorrow (before me) can they confirm that the Tab has the full phone functionality in it ?
All the contracts seem to offer just a data line, which is ... fine... i guess... Since I'm just going to trade my Galaxy S sim card into it, but I need to know that I'll be able to get texts and use the phone. Otherwise I'm going to be a seriously pissed off panda bear.
So yeah... an open call to UK guys getting a Tab... Trade your smartphones SIM into it and check that it'll make/recieve calls and texts.
If they've disabled the phone aspect, I swear to god I'm going to embark on an urban terror campaign... Or just ***** on the internet. Either way. I want a Tab cuz its a phone not just a dataline. I want a phone replacement, not a small iPad.

Me too. Went into my local store as they never answer the phone. Not had any delivery yet today. They say their delivery is usually after 3 and sometimes just as they are closing. They took my number and said they will call me when they have their delivery. We'll see. Customer service on the phone is useless. They know nothing. And still no email saying it's on the way to the store.

I don't know about the SD card thing. The guy said they are doing it for all the Tabs, and implied that you only get whats in the box, so it would seem that its included with every unit, but I couldn't swear to it.
The phone thing is kinda weird. We've been told for ages that we'll have the capability, but no-one is selling it as a phone. Like NO-ONE. They're pushing the video calling thing, but thats a data thing, not an actual 'phone' thing. Without ANY phone stuff on the contract, I don't even know if a contract will give me a phone number or anything. I'm particularly pissed because I was assuming that it would drop on contracts similar to smartphone contracts, but everyone is pushing ~£500 with pointlessly expencive data-only contracts. I saw one that was £20 a month for 2 years and still £450 up front! REDICULOUS! I already have an unlimited data contract and wifi practically everywhere I am for any length of time except public transport. I just cannot understand what the hell they are doing with this pricing... Totally ignoring the only thing that makes the Tab better than the competition. RAAAAAAAGE

There's two things here that both combined I'm pissed about (more so as the day wears on). Firstly, I'm going to have to pay for the whole device up front. Second, I'm not going to have a spare service plan to kick around. If I were getting a decent subsidy OR a nice mins/txts/data bundle then I'd be cool.
Now I always knew that this wasn't going to be a cheap device, but I don't think anywhere else in the world is being hit as hard as us on the upfront price. Even the ****ing yanks who pay through the nose for every other mobile device are being told that $600 or £375 is full retail price. What the hell is that ?

Maybe/hopefully T-Mo & Voda will realise how high everywhere is charging compared to the rest of the world and knock it down. A lot.
If not, then T-Mo sim only deals are the best imho. 100 mins & texts and unlimited data for £10 or upgrade to 300 (i believe) for £15. I dont want to be tied to another overpriced contract tbh. :/
But, the Tab is £530 new, my Desire was priced at £500 brand new. I sure as hell would have paid the extra £30

CPW are a real shambles these days. I eventually got an email saying mine had been shipped to the store today and giving me a DHL tracking number. Great! Only problem is that the tracking number shows it was already delivered to Sheffield in November LAST YEAR! Phoned them AGAIN and it still hadn't been shipped yet. They promised me it was being shipped today for delivery to my London store tomorrow. Of course, I could have just gone to Oxford Street today and picked one up!
By the way, the CPW website shows definitely it is a phone as the 3 contracts include minutes. Also, seems CPW supply it with a 16gb card.
My galaxy S was about £500 too, but I sure as hell didn't pay that upfront. In fact I won't have paid the original price until next summer.
That's kinda my point.
The kinda contracts we get on regular smart phones are a nice way to spread the cost of a really expensive device over a much longer time frame. From my point of view there is simply no point in getting a tab with any kind of contract, which aggravates me.
Normally they are real happy to sign you onto a contract, but here there is genuinely no point. I mean £30 quid off when you sign up for 2 years ? For something I won't even use *shakes head*.
Up until now I was just going to spread the cost out and have a spare contract sim for family/friends/whatever. Now, I'm not getting the SIM nor spreading the cost.
I went for the £30 saving with their one month rolling 1gb data contract, including 1 month free. So I may cancel after a month or two and I will still have saved. Also, having bought through Quidco, I should be getting cashback as well. Looks like it could even be £40 as that's what's been tracked by Quidco.
i was all set for this since im due for an upgrade from my 3gs but to my horror no minutes on any contracts, the 24 month contract has 100 minutes but thats it. Not really enough, 300 would have been fine.
Think im gonna get a Archos again and look at other tablets next year. Will probably stick with the 3GS. Unless of course some more options are given, you would think that one of the networks would allow you to use it as a phone. But oh no!!

I am an early adopter and have waited for this device for a couple months but I would advise that people wait for a further 2 weeks or so when the prices come down as the networks are clearly playing silly £$"$£$ with this.

Better and better! Got a new DHL number last night. Checking it this morning and it says its held at the depot because of an INCOMPLETE ADDRESS! And this was for collection from a CPW store. Couldn't even get their own address right!
Rushed home from work to Cambridge. Tried to go to PCWorld/Curry's but they weren't open. Called CPW. Their machine said they were open until 8. I walked to the mall and they were closed. It was only 5:30. Why does everything close at 5:30 here? Do businesses not like making money from people who work during the day? Lol. BTW I'm a "yank" working on an RAF base.

Have you received yours from Simply Electronics? I ordered mine a week ago, the money was only taken on Monday but no email confirming dispatch ... cheap but terrible service in my opinion. I have phoned them twice and they have always had stock so simply no excuse for the delay in my mind. Also no option of express delivery annoyed me so I can't really recommend Simply Electronics - wish I'd bought from Amazon.De instead

I got a cracker from mobiles.co.uk for an upgrade on Vodafone to remain at 36 pounds a month. Think they screwed up cause the upgrade was supposed to be 41. 24 month contract, 600 min, 500 Meg data and unlimited texts.

We ordered on the 2nd, no not yet but apparently it is coming on friday, they seem to be extremely slow, but they are no doubt legit, i have seen alot of people complaining about slow delivery, but they seem to get the products... also if there ebay feedback is anything to go by they seem to be good, so we'll see what happens on friday. its stpidly frustrating though!!!
I can almost forgive Simply Electronics as I think delivery was attempted of my GN this morning... I'll find out tomorrow when I can try and get it back from the Royal Mail sorting office! (not that Simply Electronics told me it was on its way or gave me the tracking numbers... and assuming that's what the missed delivery was...)
If you can stand to wait for delivery of 10-14 days they're probably ok as the price was by far the best I've seen PLUS I found an £8 voucher online which made the price even better

apparently you can get it on contract with low minutes on O2 via third party seller and if you got to thrid party seller via cashback websites like quidco or topcashback then you get about 100£ for contract phones with some providers. Plus if you drop the data plan on the O2 contract then you get the phone for about £440 with free flip cover.
Plus bonus you get Uk charger unlike amazon.de and also you get free 18-24m payments without interest charge if you treat it like buying a sim free phone. mentioned on hotukdeals threads about samsung galaxy note. search for those threads if interested.
Just Google these guys... joke. Simply electronics took 2 weeks, 4 emails and 4 phone calls and a brief communication from Google check out to get me my refund. Keeping in mind I requested the refund 2 hours after payment!

There seem to be about as many positive as negative reviews online! and the ebay rating is pretty high (98.9%), esp considering the number of transactions (15443)...
I did get an email from them today apologising for the delay (but not quite managing to actually let me know when it would be dispatched!)
So I live in hope.
I also ordered one to the states on Jan. 9 and I'm still waiting to be dispatched. I don't know if it will ever come but like you said, the reviews for them are lopsided. Bastards i didn't know that you would think if someone was to spend £500 on a phone they would give away the Tab as well.
Maybe ill take out a contract and just not pay

Not really i pre ordered my HTC Desire and LG Optimus 3d and it came to my house 9am on the day both phones were released...
Carphone warehouse on Vodafone £31 per month for 24 months, 32 gig in blue free.
800 minutes any network
Unlimited texts
500 meg data
O2 gave me such a fu©king run around with promising to match that deal, then 2 days later saying they couldn't that I decided to go to Vodafone after 11 years with O2.
Yesterday O2 send me a mail saying my order was being processed for £250 handset at £75 a month for 24 months... I was proper peeved. Sorted now, but put me off O2 a hell of a lot.
this deal is the cheapest I seen so far I think.
Edit: Carphone Warehouse also recon I'll get the handset on release day or day later... not sure I believe that, but we'll see I guess.

Ordered mine from phones 4 U. Free phone, £46 per month on a 12 month contract with vodafone. Free 16gb card and case. 900 minutes, unlimited text, 500mb internet.
Total contract price over 12 months £552!
Should be delivered on the 30th. Highly recommended!

There was lots of people that ordered the Desire HD and SGS2 only for it to be released 5 days earlier exclusively to P4U...
My mate ordered 1 month previous to this and I had my SGS2 a full week before him

I personally have ordered many contracts for my whole family we always pre order a phone we like..
Meaning we always have the latest mobiles blah blah.. Anyway i have ordered a tonne of phones from Phones 4 U and Carphone Warehouse. We have always received our phones either on the day of release or a day earlier...

Your very lucky then because in my experience (all the way back to nexus one days) pre-ordering is kinda worthless... Will look forward to be proved wrong this time though
Still will prefer to walk in CPW on release day and purchase the good stuff..

Just went to my local store and they said they had 6 but only for upgrading and new customers only... The guy was going to sell it, but the other lady store rep stopped him... =.= same person who probably refused to give me info the past two days...

Congratulate me guys, i just got the Note 2 after using the GS1 for the longest time (over 2 years) What a great phone! I paid 310 up front, and 20/month for 20 months, so phone ends up being.. about 710? not bad.

Just purchased mine for $688.00 OTD w/taxes and the only reason they sold it to me was that I already had a Monthly4G plan with them but they only had 3 and they were for new activations or current customers.... Not liking the missing multitasking though...

Where did you buy if full price? I went to 6 tmobiles in NYC and they were only selling it with new customers or upgradea. Ridiculous I tell you.

just annoyed since sure, it makes business sense to reserve them for new and upgrading customers. Buy if I'm buying a tmobile branded phone I am, with a 99.99% probability, going to be using the phone on their network and I'll still be using their service... Not to say I've been a tmo customer for 7 years but because I'm not a new customer or ready to extend my contract 2 years, I have to wait
