Samsung Omnia 7 Userbar - Omnia 7 General

Hey,
Just made a nice quick little userbar for your signature on XDA and any other forums if anyone wants to use it
Just copy and paste this code into your User CP > Edit Signature panel and hit save. Make sure you remove the two words 'delete'. It will then display like the one in my signature below.
Code:
[[U]delete[/U]URL="http://www.omnia7.samsungmobile.com/"][IMG[U]delete[/U]]http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/3896/ubd9532.png[/IMG][/URL]

[Q] can you change the size of the on screen buttons

i was wondering if there was a way to change the size of the soft buttons for home, back, ect. I was hoping to make them smaller as to not interfere with games and other apps. as well as making the home screen larger and better looking. please if any one has any info on this i would appreciate it. i am not a developer but do have lots of android experience so any info may be useful. Thanks
EDIT: with new firmware out if you have updated the frameworks posted here so far wont work. i am trying to get someone to post a new framework from the new firmware. Hopefully someone will. Thanks
The icons you're interested in are located in the drawable folder of the framework-res.apk (buttonbar_sys_*), along with the relevant xml files. I tried resizing the existing icons, but all you get is smaller icons! The buttonbar remains the same size. I'm currently looking at which xml file to edit to resize the bar itself.
cool looks like a start at least. keep me updated. thanks
You can remove side panel alltogether. Buttons will then placed in the top status panel. Root is needed.
From Archos Gen8 FAQ on 4pda.ru (can't posting outside links, sorry):
In the /data/local.prop file add string
Code:
ro.board.has_buttonbar=no
reboot
to change buttons size, install app LCD Density
add to local.prop sting
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=120
reboot
PS. Perhaps with modified buttons from reply #2 we don't need the last step, as it change font size too.
you can also use the app 'lcd density' to change the resolution of the screen, which makes the buttons smaller.

Just to clarify, you either need to add that string to local.prop or install LCD Density, no need for both. The only problem with this is that it changes the size of the entire UI, and makes the icons in the status bar really tiny. That really bugs me!

There are different images for the icons in the notification bar. They are also in the drawable folder, but are called stat_sys_*. Also, simply resizing those doesn't work either. Tried it, but the icon area stays the same, so the smaller icons are just stretched out to fill the space - doesn't look good!
Why all the guys want to kill the softbuttons?
Without them, it don´t work
The only thing is bad on the buttons is the fact that they still there by playing games
But on my Archos 5 IT , theres an fullscreen mode with that you can disable the bar/buttons by playing games.. maybe a dev can look at it

no, kill them than install softkeys, it works for me, no any problem^^
Reading through gen8 thread on 4pda.ru i have found another method:
For example, for 32px notification bar height, unpack framework_res.apk and change file \res\values-long-mdpi\dimens.xml as follows:
Code:
<dimen name="full_statusbar_height">32.0px</dimen>
<dimen name="compact_statusbar_height">32.0px</dimen>
<dimen name="statusbar_button_width">40.0px</dimen>
<dimen name="statusbar_button_height">32.0px</dimen>
And don't forget string "ro.board.has_buttonbar=no" in the \data\local.prop
No need to resize images. They will be scaled down automatically.
See attached screens.
ahh looks like progress , im guessing im going to need root if i want to change the framework_res.apk? which one is best for this archangle, uruk or churlis method?

Won't work with Archangel root, as that doesn't allow you to make changes to system files.

Attaching zipped framework apks, 32px and 24px versions fo 70IT, courtesy by bokorez from 4pda.ru. He used rooting method from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930197 (permanent r/w). I myself now only waiting for tablet, so i can't check files yet. Use it for your own risk please
It would be fine if somebody much knowledgeable than me would explain here, how to upload these files on the device.
Thanks alot. that helped out a great deal.
EDIT: I think that both are the same. i used them both and they worked but both changed the size to the same. i think that they are both 32px.

I don't know why, but if you open apk with archiver program, there is really no such folder, but if use
Code:
apktool -v d -s framework-res.apk
you get:
Code:
$ ls framework-res/res/values-long-ldpi/
dimens.xml
I think that both are the same. i used them both and they worked but both changed the size to the same. i think that they are both 32px.

No, they are different. File framework-res/res/values-long-ldpi/dimens.xml are the same in both versions and contain "24.0px" value (this is error, i suppose). Files framework-res/res/values-long-mdpi/dimens.xml are different and contain "24.0px" and "32.0px" values in 24- and 32-version respectively.
It seems i need to sort it out with the author on 4pda.ru, as i don't have device yet. Or you can try to change file dimens.xml in the folders values-long-* by yourself.

Mates,
I've investigated why Button Savior won't work, and I've found the solution.
In Uruk (since I'm using it), /system/bin/input shell script miss execute attributes.
So, as root just do this:
chmod +x /system/bin/input
That's all.
Cheers.

Ok so here's exactly what I have to do to get all button on Button Savior to work.
Again I'm rooted via SDE so I'm not sure if this works for Archangel root.
1. With Root explorer, go to System> Bin and look for "input" file.
2. Press and hold for option to pop up and select "Permissions" and check all read, write, etc.
3. Reboot the device
4. Then press the regular Menu button (NOT on Button Savior yet) and go to Settings> Applications> Development then uncheck and recheck USB Debugging and hit OK.
5. Now on Button Savior press the either back or menu button.
6. The Superuser permission will pop up and select yes. If superuser is already set previously then a dialog box will shortly appear stating superuser permission applied.
7. Wait till the dialog box goes away, then press the back button. It should now back up one screen. If you press menu nothing will happen since you are in the Development screen which doesn't have a menu option so don't panic if that happens.
From here you can go back to home and test each button and they should all work now.
Each time you reset the buttons might not work again so what you need to do is go back and uncheck/recheck debugging first before pressing any of the Button Savior buttons. If you press any of Button Savior before recheck/unchecking debugging then it wont work. You'll need to reboot. To be safe uncheck/recheck it every reboot prior to using Button Savior.
The permissions should not be affected on reboot. The only time the permission gets unchecked is if you do the 10 second reset (holding power button for 10 seconds). In this case you have go back to step 1.

Creating 9 patch PNGS for theming!!

Alright, last week or so, I said I was going to try working on themes and after a few days finally got the whole 9 patch PNG jargon figured out!!! It was a pain in the ass figuring out how it all worked and even after searching i was still unclear.
Software you will need:
Adobe Photoshop or equivalent to edit your PNGs, adjust transparency, add effects)
Android SDK Tools and SDK starter package
Xultimate-d9pc.exe and repsective .zip file (this converts the raw .9.png into a working .9.png)
draw9patch (included in the SDK Tools) *I am working on another way to cut this step out since it is what takes the majority of time*
Java JDK (For Android SDK Tools to work)
Android SDK: Click Me! Android SDK r12 Do all the updates for the tool packages.
Xultimate-d9pc: Click Me!! Extract this into the Android SDK Tools Folder!! VERY IMPORTANT!!!
Java JDK: Click.. for 64 bit Windows Click.. for 32 bit Windows
I have uploaded all of these to my website for your convenience. I don't have the quickest server, so be patient with the downloads!!
Sorry for no audio in the video either. I didn't have a Mic hooked up and figured a video tutorial would be enough. Below is a youtube link and the pasted instructions from the youtube video.
WARNING: the steps below look intimidating, but really are quite easy after you grasp the idea.. I created so many steps to keep the total n00b in mind.
Step 1: Send the .apk that you want to modify from your phone to your email (or transfer your way of choice)
Step 2: copy the .apk somewhere on your harddrive (I put all my android stuff including tools and SDK in an 'android' folder as you will see in the video)
Step 3: open up the .apk in 7zip and navigate to the drawable folder (in this case; res >> drawable-hdpi)
Step 4: highlight all the pngs and .9.png's you would like to modify and copy them to a folder (this is where you will make your edits outside the .apk and compile them at a later time)
Step 5: Open the .9.pngs in photoshop and have some fun! (use your creativity to add overlays, borders, glows, etc.) tip: don't get to complicated, because you will need to pick split/stretch points later for the 9 patch conversion.
Step 6: When done modifying the .9.pngs, just save and overwrite the files you would like (in the case of the MMS app, the same image is used for multiple bubble files)
Step 7: Open up ONLY the .9.png's in the draw9patch tool located in your android SDK tools folder. Add the 9 patch data as shown in the video. Tip: some people only add one middle top and middle left split point/pixel, but i find its usually easier to add TWO points for the top and left quadrant as you will be picking your EXTENTS of where you want the content to be.
Step 8: On the right and bottom quadrant, create a solid line connecting the respective pixels together. These two steps will add the information to the PNG of where to split and stretch from, while also giving constraints of where the content can go.
Step 9: After all the 9 patch images are saved in draw9patch, if you open them you will notice the black pixels you just created. Do NOT, DO NOT try and recompile the .apk at this point, thinking you are done.. the bubbles (in this case) will look like crap, because you are not finished yet.
Step 10: Copy (or move) the newly created .9.png's into the ORIGINALS folder for the xultimate.exe software.
Step 11: Run the xultimate.exe. This will take about 2 seconds or less.
Step 12: naviigate through the 'done' folder and you will notice the .9.PNGs no longer contain the black border pixels!!! CONGRATS!!!
Step 13: Copy all modified images back into the open 7zip .apk archive and overwrite all the existing.
Step 14: replace your current .apk on your phone with this 'new' .apk and enjoy!!
and finally...
Tutorial -couldn't get youtube tags to work.
*If anyone is wondering why I Copied to the REV 2 folder but did the tutorial on the REV 1 folder, I was just demonstrating how to copy the files, but was working on my theme in the Rev 1 folder. DONT BE CONFUSED!!*
Thank you kind sir!
-Sent from my Random Epic.
This could be useful enough to move to Themes and be stickied with dreams tutorial.
Only reason I didn't throw it in those forums yet was that I figured a few people could try it and review the process before it became a 'good' tutorial. I know sometimes a tutorial is easy to understand or works for some people, but others have issues or don't understand the directions as well.
I hope this works for everyone and people are less intimidated to mess with this type of stuff!!
Relating to my other thread, I will continue to work on the MMS and Swype theming, I just wanted to get this together so everyone can start theming!
Wow, this looks very "easy"
Maybe I'll finally be able to edit .9.pngs without help

Why not just use apk manager to decompile, edit the .9.png's leaving the black outer border pixels alone, then recompile the apk, extract the modded png's, then copy them into the source apk?

That's fine in some instances, but it wouldn't really allow you to create .9pngs that are of a different size....
Also...I would think editing them in say GIMP only would "corrupt" the draw9patch data? It seems to me that it's more than just having a few pixels as borders and guidlines, it's also the files data in relation to those pixels

Exactly. What I do is cut all but the 1 pixel border into a new layer, edit that layer, merge the layers and save. I understand the concept the op is stating, but all of this can be done with the method I said as well. If you want to completely change, or add png's you will need to also make xml edits to add the image there or change container sizes, which is done by decompiling with apk manager. The only thing you might have to do is run the images throught the draw9 tool, but in most cases you wouldn't even need to do that.

also, if you see the black bars, you are dealing with a previously edited rom/apk. when you build from leaks or official google aosp releases you dont have that. very nice work mr. socks
I have a question. How do you create a new 9.png to use, for example with miui lockscreen. I dont really get that. Do I have to create the 9.png as the same as the original 9.png on the lockscreen. just wondering. Any help would be appreciated
thank you

It really depends on what image it is and what you want it to do. Some aspects that you might think are controlled by an image might actually be controlled by a xml file.

Sure, you can take the name of the image and search for it in the xml files. Very easy to do with windows explorer. I use it to fine images and color codes all the time. If you know how to read the xml file you can see how it all works.
I don't know what file you're wanting to edit, but that might help. I'd throw up some resources I've used for you but I'm at work right now.

Start with this one here. If you have sdk and draw9patch in the tools folder, you can use this to help guide you. There was one other site I found when I was starting out themeing, but I'm not finding it right now.

[GUIDE]How to make a custom rom?Custom ROMs explained[UPDATE:20-3-2012]

Hey Guys,
I am going to explain some of the files in a custom rom,the small and easy to mod files because the aim is to educate newbies and NOT advanced devs.
Ok,So,I have seen a lot of questions being asked nowadays about making custom roms. This guide is NOT about building a custom rom but about editing and modding it.I am doing this guide taking CM7 as base, not stock,so there might be differences between the roms you choose to mod. Also,I am prone to mistakes here and there. If i made any, please comment about it and i will remove it.Also, please feel free to give your suggestions about making this guide better
What you would need:
Notepad++
WinRar or any other zip/rar manager like 7zip or WinZip
If you want go advanced, you would also need these things
Cygwin
Smali/Baksmali
APK Multi tool or anything like that,i dont care
And most importantly,a brain and eyes(So,Dont ask me stupid questions like, how de fuk du i xtarct? and then in brackets, sorry for my english)
GUIDE:
So,first up,download a rom of your choice(Dont forget to get the permissions for modding from the developer) and extract it.When you extract it,you will see 2 folders and 1 file,it varies. It depends on the contents of the rom.
The folders are:
1.META-INF
2.system
The file:
1.boot.img
So,
Open up system and the first folder you are going to see is 'apps'.
As you already see, this is the place where all the apps go,for the history. You might also see some .odex files below the apps. So,if you remove an app,you should delete the odex file too.If you want to add an app, just drag and drop Take care not to delete each and every app you find, because each of them has their own functions. Also,if you delete contact.apk and replace it with a better dialer like Exdialer, you wont be able to add or delete contacts. So,there are some files better left alone.
If you want to know how to merge them, then use google, there are a lot of tutorials on deodexing. If you want to edit an app, then use APK multi tool, again please use google, lots of tuts on this one too.
Also, you will find an app here and its a main one, systemui.apk By editing systemui.apk, you can get transparent status bars, transparent notification bars, centre the clock.Things like that. The idea with which you edit Systemui.apk and framework-res.apk,thats how your rom is going to look like. These files handle the visual things and they are awesome too.For some systemui mods, refer HERE
Now,some apk files are lib-dependent,meaning,they need certain lib files to work,a few examples are,Swype keyboard, now, swype wouldnt work if this lib file is not included in the rom, libswypecore.so,so if you remove swype, remove this lib file also, because its just a wastage of space and it doesnt do anything.Another example is DSP Manager in Froyo,in GB,it works native,no need to add any applications, but in Froyo,if you add DSP Manager, there are a few lib files that you should add to get them to work.
Next, the 'bin' folder, this guide is aimed at the noobs,so nothing about this, this is a bit advanced stuff,so sorry.
Next up,the 'etc' folder. There are a lot of things that go here.I wont be going to full details for the moment because i am having exams,so no time. However,i will be explaining the easy to explain files.
One thing you will notice is the 'init.d' folder. If you want to add any script like LagFree v2,just put the files of the init.d folder in the script's folder here, nothing else. You dont need to copy any other files like META-INF.
Another file,is CHANGELOG-CM,just as the name suggests its a file giving you changelogs
Another file is NOTICE.html..Its just a file showing copyrights and all that stuff. You wouldnt need to edit that, would you?
Will add more about the other files soon
Next, the 'fonts' folder..You guys need an explanation for that??
Next,'framework' folder. Here you will find framework-res.apk(Obviously,duh...).I wont tell about any other file because this is aimed at new users, not advanced guys.Framework-res is where all the icons in notification bar are.The battery icons, they are all in framework. Also, lockscreen icons
go here..Most of the icons. If i have to start on anything. It would take me weeks, theres so much to write about framework. Also take care not to mess up the framework.Because its like the skeleton(thats what i know ) of a rom.If a framework is incorrectly configured, the rom wont boot. So,keep that in your mind always when you edit framework.
Next, the 'libs' folder,This guide is aimed at newbies,so not touching this part.
And comes 'media'..Most probably you will find 2-3 folders here.Audio,bootanimation.zip and wallpapers.
If you want to change the default, its in build.prop, not here,i will explain that later. If you need to add some audio, its just drag and drop, nothing much, just put them in the right folders, like alarms, ringtones and notifications
If you need to add wallpapers, reszie the pictures to 640x480,thats the resolution that works for ace. Also resize it to 107x80 and save it as another pic with a _small at the end.For eg,the default file is defaultwallpaper.jpg, you make another pic with 107x80 called defaultwallper_small.jpg.
Then, theres the bootanimation.zip..However way you change this thing.Always name it bootanimation. If you want to know how to make a boot animation, then refer freeyourandroid.com
Next up is 'tts' folder..Sorry but i dont know much about this folder.I think this folder contains the languages for the tts app but i am not sure about it.Same goes for 'usr' and 'wifi' folders. But since this thread is aimed at newbies,i dont think there wouldnt a point in writing them up anyway
Next up is build.prop file.Open it with notepad++...build.prop file is pretty self explanatory.
Here you can change the most basic things like the android version that setting shows..Wondered how people are making 2.3.4 look like 4.0.3 in settings??Its build.prop.Also,you can change what 'About phone' shows here.
Other things, you can change things like, how long your wifi scans, how much battery your phone saves while in sleep,Dalvik VM heapsize and default ringtones. If you are wondering what # stands for,it signifies that, that particular tweak is not running,so you can take out the # if its a tweak you like. You could also use it say things like,Additional build properties. You could make it #AdditionalBuildProperties and go to the next line and give your tweaks there. Some build.prop tweaks can be found in slaid480's thread in Galaxy Ace S5830 titled "[MOD]Build.prop tweaks for SGA" or you can go to freeyourandroid.com and find some tweaks there, however the tweaks listed there are universal,so practise caution when playing with build.prop
Now to boot.img..Theres an awesome guide about this in freeyourandroid.com Please have a look at it,because there are lots to write about this one. This is where Cygwin comes in,for instructions on unpacking and repacking and commands and info about boot.img, referHERE and HERE.My summarized version, boot.img is where you can replace kernels. This is where you can make those low-level changes
Then,to META-INF folder. You would find lots of folders here but the file that you would edit consistently is update script.Find it and open it with Notepad++..Unless you edited xbin and bin files, this is not hard to do..Just change around ui_print to what you like.Dont touch anything else if you dont know what you are doing. If you DID edit xbin or bin files, you would need to touch advanced things like symlink tagged ones(I had to give them some sort of a tag)
Updater-Script References and notes:
Now,the updater-script is not something that you should mess around with,a single line of error in the script could get you in trouble. You might also have heard these words,Amend and Edify and wondered what they are, well Edify is the language with which Updater-script is written, while Amend is the language with which Update-Script is written. Now,As far as i know,Ace does NOT support Update script,it just supports Updater-script,so if you are working with kitchen, dont forget to swap the files in META-INF with the the updater-script provided by ketut.kumajaya in Blackhawk thread. So,you should learn to study updater-script of roms and patches before you mess around with them, especially patches here...Now,for example,I made a GPS patch that replaces hw folder in CyanogenMod with my patch. Now,i tell the updater script to delete the hw folder in lib and make another one and put my files in there, you,a normal user will flash it and it would work, but a rom maker without seeing that i have told the updater script to delete hw folder, adds my lib files to the existing lib files, which causes the rom not to boot. So,study the updater-script of patches and see what they do before you jump in and start doing things your own way and mess things up.I will write down a few updater-script commands here and what they do for your convenience now. Here you guys go with it:
mount-mounts a filesystem
is_mounted-checks if a filesystem is mounted
unmount-Unmounts a filesystem
format-format a filesystem (duh..)
delete-Deletes a single file
delete_recursive-Deletes a folder and all of its contents
show_progress-Display flash progress
package_extract_dir-Extract all the files present in a directory to a specified directory
package_extract_file-Extract single file from directory to specified target
file_getprop-dont know much about this one
symlink-Unlinks any existing symbolic links before creating the new symbolic links.
set_perm-Sets permissions for a file,note you dont write rw-r-r here.Its the numbers,for example,for root access,you write 777(right?),not anything else
set_perm_recursive-Sets permissions for a full directory, for example,if you specified a folder, permissions for the folder and all files in it will be set.
getprop-This function returns the value of the property specified. This is used to query platform information from the build.props file.
write_raw_image-Writes a raw image into a partition
apply_patch-Applies patches to a directory -_- (dont you guys understand it just by reading that? )
apply_patch_check-Checks if a file can be patched or if they have been patched
apply_patch_space-Checks if there is enough space to apply a patch
read_file-Reads contents of a file
sha1check-If only data is specified, then the function returns the sha1_hex string of the data. The optional parameters are used if you want to verify that the file you are checking for is one of a list of hashes. It reutrns the hash it matches, or returns nothing if it doesn't match any of the mentioned hashses.
ui_print-It outputs a message to the users while flashing. So,if you see something like 'This is so awesome',know that its not such a big deal and that its just a line of editing here
run_program-Runs a program
ifelse-This is the if-then construct of the Edify scripting language. The truecondition or falsecondition arguments can be a single edify command or a script block. Script blocks can be formed by enclosing the parameter with parenthesis, and seperating the commands with semicolons
abort-duh..it aborts script execution
assert-If condition evaluates to false, stops script execution, otherwise continues processing.
Thats it,dont worry after seeing all these commands. You wont see them all in most of the roms. Here is a list of commands that you usually see in a updater-script.
ui_print
mount
unmount
delete
delete_recursive
package_extract_directory
symlink
show_progress
set_perm
set_progress
set_perm_recursive
getprop
run_program
assert
Now on making it a flashable zip, archive them to a zip file.Get a signer here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6050996&postcount=2
NOTE:Signing is not necessary
The instructions on using that are given with it.Just rename it back to the name you like after signing it.
Thanks to everyone.Especially, freeyourandroid,XDA and TeamCooper and all members of XDA developers and to me (well, you are the one who does that, remember that button Jk )
Hope this helped you guys..Again,this is a thread aimed at educating the new members, not advanced guys.Sorry if i missed anything or made a mistake..Please give me suggestions on this too. Will add more info to this thread when i have the time[/SIZE]

i got what he is trying to say.
he is saying that due to rom building guides noobs will also learn how to build custom rom but they may not have that knowledge skills to make a distinguished ROMS they will be building common roms with little or no difference, difference will be only that different people will release rest things will be kind of same only no drastic changes.
hope i am right

Nice work, thank you
If you have time, can you please post a guide on how to sign APK files?
For example, if i want to edit an icon of an app, i change the icon in the .apk but then i have to sign it, how can i do it?
On the net i found lots of guides and programs but none of them worked for me...
Anyway good work

[Quick Guide] - Enabling Hidden Features

Just wanted to share a few CSC features that are tested to work on the S6/S6 edge.
This is not my work, just sharing.
To enable these you will need root, a root explorer and text editor.
Simply navigate to system/csc/Features.xml and add the corresponding line to the end of the file but before the very last few lines that say </feature> and </Samsung>
(if this file does not exist, create the csc folder in system and a txt file within it then change the name to features.xml and add the correct lines and save) if this does not work you can try the same method with Others.XML in the same folder
*Make sure you make backups of the stock files in case there are issues.*
Enable WiFi calling in phone settings:
Code:
<CscFeature_Setting_SupportWifiCall>TRUE</CscFeature_Setting_SupportWifiCall>
Enable native voice call recording(maybe illegal is some countries):
Code:
<CscFeature_VoiceCall_ConfigRecording>RecordingAllowed</CscFeature_VoiceCall_ConfigRecording>
Enable shutter sound switch in camera settings(maybe illegal is some countries):
Code:
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
Enable camera during call:
Code:
<CscFeature_Camera_EnableCameraDuringCall></CscFeature_Camera_EnableCameraDuringCall>
Enable manual rotation option in gallery:
Code:
<CscFeature_Gallery_AddAutoRotationIcon>true</CscFeature_Gallery_AddAutoRotationIcon>
Continuous music while using camera:
Code:
<CscFeature_Camera_CamcorderDoNotPauseMusic></CscFeature_Camera_CamcorderDoNotPauseMusic>
Enable scheduled messaging option in messaging app:
Code:
<CscFeature_Message_EnableScheduledMessage>true</CscFeature_Message_EnableScheduledMessage>
<CscFeature_Message_EnableScheduledMsgBox>true</CscFeature_Message_EnableScheduledMsgBox>
Enable exit buttons in default browser:
Code:
<CscFeature_Web_AddOptionToTerminate>true</CscFeature_Web_AddOptionToTerminate>
Enable 2nd symbol keys on stock keyboard:
Code:
<CscFeature_Sip_UseSymbolInCMKey>true</CscFeature_Sip_UseSymbolInCMKey>
<CscFeature_Sip_EnableSymbolInSecondary>de;en_US;en_GB</CscFeature_Sip_EnableSymbolInSecondary>
Enable VoLTE Support: Thanks to IakobosJ
Code:
<CscFeature_RIL_SupportVolte>true</CscFeature_RIL_SupportVolte>
<CscFeature_IMS_EnableVoLTE>true</CscFeature_IMS_EnableVoLTE>
Remove NFC enabled icon in the status bar: Thanks to evonc
Code:
[COLOR="Red"]Delete line[/COLOR] : <CscFeature_NFC_StatusBarIconType>DEFAULT</CscFeature_NFC_StatusBarIconType>
ADDED 21/04/15
Sort app draw alphabetically:
Code:
<CscFeature_Launcher_EnableViewByAlphabetAsDefault>true</CscFeature_Launcher_EnableViewByAlphabetAsDefault>
I Hope this helps someone out,
Big Thanks to this post for the info, there are many more in the original post but these are the only ones I've tried and have worked so far,
and IakobosJ for his help in the wifi calling thread
if anything needs adding let us know and it can be added to this post,
This is dedicated to the hard working XDA community
Thank You All
Theres also some nice tools in the play store -:- Be careful when using these!
Samsung CSC Master
CSC Feature Expert
(I own google so get a big cut of the profit made on these )
I've tried CSC Feature Expert now -and it seems to work well,
Quick tut:
I would backup original CSC folder first
Just search for the option you want to enable,
Select the value ( see pic 1)
in the popup - Input the correct value (see pic 2 - label 1)
(a few examples of values)
' RecordingAllowed ' to enable call recording,
' true ' for shutter sound menu,
' true ' for launcher by alphabet,
' true ' for rotation icon in gallery,
' true ' for support wifi call,
then click save (see pic 2 - label 2)
restart you device
Hope this helps
If only we could root, without tripping Knox.
I don't want to root my phone in fear that Samsung Pay won't work with a tripped Knox.
Nice to see you've put all of this information together
For those on EE you may also want to enable VoLTE. I know it's unlikely to be in anyones area yet, but they are rolling it out across the UK (Very slowly)
Enable VoLTE Support
<CscFeature_RIL_SupportVolte>TRUE</CscFeature_RIL_SupportVolte>
Enable VoLTE
<CscFeature_IMS_EnableVoLTE>true</CscFeature_IMS_EnableVoLTE>
Just a quick note that the commands have to be added before the
</FeatureSet>
</SamsungMobileFeauture> tags at the end of the file.
Tested the Call recording and Shutter sound edits. Worked great.
Lastly if you want to remove that ugly NFC enabled icon in the status bar, delete line
<CscFeature_NFC_StatusBarIconType>DEFAULT</CscFeature_NFC_StatusBarIconType>
from the file and it will hide the icon.

Thats strange as I've added mine after the samsung tags and all is working fine fine on my device.
Have you had problems in the past with doing that?
No. I saw the file header and noticed they're inserting commands between those tags. The original guide also has that listed but I guess it may or may not work.
Also I believe the file may get reset when you enter stock recovery so I'm assuming this should work as a fix.
1. Open the sales_code.dat to find your csc code.
2. Open the folder above with the same code.
3. Navigate to <code>/system/csc and you'll see another others.xml
4. This is most likely the file that gets applied after a factory reset/activation.
5. Make changes to this file as well.
*Make sure you make backups of the stock files in case there are issues.*

I would have thought it would have had to be within those tags too. Only found it didn't when i wasn't paying attention while modding it. LoL
Nice tip. Thanks. hoping there's more cool things that can enabled with this, maybe some S6 exclusives finds .
I'm on the Sprint Edge and don't have that folder. I guess I'll create and see what happens

I didnt have it either . Just create the csc folder and make a txt file and change the name to others.xml. as the op states. infact ill post a copy with basic changes i the first post.
It works fine for me. hopfully you wont have any issues
I actually did have the folder. I was looking at the folder ". System" However, after adding those lines and saving it had no effect. Can you take a look at this to see if it's right?
Edit: can't upload the xml file.

You'll have to zip it before you can upload it... or rename others.xml to others.txt
I've attached a basic others.xml with all functions listed in the OP
and an original copy of the EE csc folder that IakobosJ uploaded in the WIFI calling thread
(it would be good if everybody could upload their original csc folders for reference and backups in case someone messes up theirs by accident.)
You can just copy and paste my others.xml into the bottom of your own others.xml(backup yours first)
I've had to do this as XDA's forum system seems to have changed at least one of the lines I've posted, and I've even tried going back and editing and it keeps putting a space in the middle of one of them, so use the upload if your having trouble,
I've deleted all but this file in my csc folder and tested it to make sure there nothing else it depends on - everything is working fine on my device.
But feel free to upload your for us to have a look at
im confused?
i can already do wifi calling and most of these things already without root
im on tmobile

Ok, I'm finally on a PC so I had a chance to zip that file and have uploaded it. IDK where I screwed up. I'm rooted, I found the System/CSC/Others file and made the proper edits and then saved it. The original file was automatically backed up. The permissions were the same as the original file. IDK what I did wrong.

I really appreciate the effort but that didn't work either. I used the file you uploaded for me and made sure the permissions were the same and rebooted. None of the mods worked. It's really weird. I'm going to inquire in the Sprint thread to see if anyone can get these to work.
Unrelated do you know which folder I can find the boot sounds and camera sounds? I'm just going to delete them and that will solve part of my problem.
