great thx for any hlp given
right matey
if you wanna unroot then follow this
INFO AND OPTIONS FIRST
beware while your rooted dont flash or update the stock software with s-off as you may brick the device, once your unrooted and s-on you can use the system update and flash stock roms.
if you wanna stay rooted but have all the system updates and a stock rom i recommend virtuous roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837042
you will need to download rom manager from the market place, then you can get clockworkmod, do a nandroid backup of your current stock rom, flash virtuous rom, see how it is
UNROOTING!!!
when unrooting follow the steps in this carefully

no matter it works onot i will stil thank you^^
if i use virtuous roms can i update system software update on its own?or nid to wait for newer version of virtuous roms?
in the rom manager it will tell you when there is a update and you can choose to download and update whilst saving your data and settings. its great or as some would say... its the dogs bollocks! lol
i truelly recommend keeping it rooted, make sure you have s-off by taking out the battery, replacing the battery, hold the vol down key and press the power button (keep holding the vol down until a white screen appears. on the top line make sure it says s-off. if it doesnt, please follow the rooting guides i gave you in my first post.
download rom manager from market, flash clockwork mod... you can choose g2 it will work for desire z and g2.
once flashed use rom manager to perform a nandroid backup
download virtuous using rom manager and choose to wipe data and cache
(dont worry your nandroid backup will store everything, its a bit like taking a picture of your current rom and saving it.)
then your phone will reboot into clockwork mod and install virtuous.
enjoy
please donate to rom manager if you like it
a few other apps i recommend are titanium backup... extremely usefull!!!!
hope this helps!!
u rely helped alot^^tytyty
luv uXD
no problem matey did you get your phone unrooted or are you gonna use clockworkmod and flash another rom?
keep me posted !

ps:after download rom manager thn clik backup current rom n flash clockwork recovery?
nw only left download the rom^^thx
no worries matey
i recommend cm7 nightly roms and the virtuous roms cm7 roms are not like sense, so if you preffer sense go with virtuous
can i ask smtg?after flash into virtious rom,all my contact gone,is ther anyway to restore my contact back w/o restore to previous rom?
you will probabally need to nandroid backup the virtuous rom, restore the stock, backup contacts to sd card then restore the virtuous rom sorry lol
it only takes 5 mins to backup and restore itll take 20 mins at most!!
but i str8 clik manage and restore backup in rom manager thn after restore i clik to install virtuous rom again

There's your problem.
ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.5 is for Gingerbread-based (Android 2.3) ROMs. Evil 4G is a Froyo-based (Android 2.2) ROM. These different versions of Android use incompatible filesystems.
How to recover:
1. Download CyanogenMod 7, a Gingerbread-based ROM, to your PC. Choose the newest release candidate (RC2) or the most recently Nightly build.
2. Boot into CWM Recovery, select "mounts and storage" and make your SD card mountable via USB.
3. Copy the CM7 .zip file to your SD card.
4. Install the .zip after a full wipe / factory reset
5. If you want to stay with CM7, also download the Google Applications (Gapps) .zip to your PC, copy to your SD card and and install it after you complete the install of CM7.
6. Boot CM7.
7. If you want to install Evil 4G, run Rom Manager and have it flash CWM Recovery 2.5.1.2, then reboot into Recovery, full wipe / factory reset, and install Evil as previously planned.
Thanks Ill get on it....
So could I just get CM7 on there then get an older version of clockwork to use the backup I made for the Mytouch rom I had before?
Or is the backup I made pretty much lost because Im using Clockwork V3?

Your backup was made with an incompatible version of CWM Recovery. It may not be usable. That said, some people have reported in the some of the many many threads on this subject that they have been able to restore a Froyo backup made with V3, while running V2. Your results might match theirs. The steps I show above let you stop at CM7 or continue on to Evil 4G, and do not include restoring your Stock ROM.

this gets you running with the 2 versions of recovery, one for froyo, one for gingerbread. whichever backup you want to restore, just use the matching recovery so your old backup is fine
I neglected to mention CWMR 3.0.0.6, that camrs73 just posted about, with a link to its main thread. This is a custom version of CWM Recovery built by option94 that supports both Froyo and Gingerbread filesystems. In order to install it, you need to have a functioning Android system first. You can install it =after= you get CM7 or Evil 4G up and running.
Ok thank God lol
Thanks for the Input guys Ill flash CM7 then download that Clock work and let you know how it went.

From here if you install 3.0.0.6 Clockwork recovery image (link in my signature) you can flash between 2.2 and 2.3 ROMS w/o any problems.
Yes!!! Im saved!!!
Thanks jggimi ,camrs73 and of coarse neidlinger for your clockwork mod!!
One more question...can I have more than one backup saved on Clockwork?
you can have as many as storage space allows and flash whichever one you feel like at the time (with the appropriate recovery of course)
I need to make a warranty exchange, but if I send my phone in, and they see its rooted, Im going to get an out of warranty fee.
Its not letting me recover to my back up. Im completely lost as to what to do. I need to make it look like Ive never rooted my phone at all
You don't really expect to get much help with so little information, do you? What recovery and ROM do you have installed? How are you trying to go back to stock, a nandroid backup?
Sorry. Guess thats kind of important. lol
Recovery: 3.0.0.5
themed ice glacier 1.1.4
And form what the person who rooted my phone told me, that I now cant get a hold of, I just install from backup that he had originally made, when he flashed the rom. Sorry. I know Im a noob. Been extremely busy to actually learn. Go figure the guy whos been helping me, hasnt been answering his phone
CWM 3.0.0.5 can only flash Gingerbread ROMs, and the stock image you're trying to restore is a Froyo ROM. All you need to do is switch to CWM 3.0.0.6 and you can successfully revert back to stock.
1. Go here to install this CWM version, which will allow you to flash 3.0.0.6 and older CWM, which you need to go back to stock nandroid restore (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944681).
2. Go here for how to restore stock nandroid (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845756). Make sure you flash older CWM recovery when restoring stock nandroid. After restoring, you can follow thread and instructions to turn S-on again.

Hello. i am new to the android family
i have a nexus s GT-9020T
i have rooted my phone but without setting the clockworkmod reovery.
today i was playing with the rom manager and downloaded one of the rom from the list. after installation i was unable to start the phone only seeing the google logo with the unlock logo.
i went back into the recovery by typing flash recovery recovery.img etc.
run a restore and restart the phone but still not work
my nexus s is 2.3.4 by the way.
please assist
What "restore" did you run?
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056062
And download the full rom:
Model: i9020T
Full Rom: GRJ22, KD1
That'll revert your Nexus S to the latest completely stock 2.3.4
Then you can flash recovery again and go back to clockwork mod and go flash another rom or whatever.
Remember when you're flashing a new rom you need to wipe data and cache and dalvik cache.
i run an restore from the backup that i made before installing the new rom using clockwork mod recovery, its part of the option when installing the rom using the rom manager * click box - backup * etc something like that

Next time don't use Rom Manager to make backups or flash roms. It's stupid and can get you issues like you're having.
Anyways, try wiping data and cache then restoring the backup, do it in Clockwork Recovery.
Let it boot, first boot always takes a while, 5-10 minutes. If you see the boot animation freeze, stop and restart, then yeah it's screwed up, otherwise, just let it is.
If still not working from your backup, do what I said in previous reply, just restore to stock 2.3.4 then re flash clockwork mod and start over with the rom you want to flash.
thank your nxt. i have found the real problem. it was not my backup problem or the rom that u provided. it was the version of my clockwork mod recovery. i was using an 2.x.x.x to restore the phone which is why it doesn't work. everything work fine now after i flashed with an 3.x.x.x and restore the phone. one question thou, where can i always find the newest clockwork mod recovery release ? thank you very much

Or just use ROM Manager to get the latest.
That's the only thing I use ROM Manager for... getting the latest Recovery.
thanks again nxt. if you don't mind really ...i have one more question. i know the phone intend to uninstall clockwork mod recovery once its restarted. i know there is command type into the cmd to avoid the phone uninstall the clockworkmod reovery and make it permanent in another word. I didn't run those command when i root my phone because i don't know if its good to make it permanent like.... hmmm like if there will be a 2.3.5 coming next month..just saying ok... with a permanent unofficial recovery will cause a problem?

Are you running custom ROM? If you are, it's already made to not revert back to stock recovery. If you leave it stock recovery you'll get notifications for firmware updates by Google, but remember that applying those to a rooted phone might screw things up too.
the blue one is stock recovery right?

HI all i foolw every step of AlphaRev X: mod successfully patched my phone than follow this guide Via PC49IMG Process successfully.
my questions are as follows.
1. thats all i need to done before flashing a custom rom..?
2. After flashing a custom rom if wanna go back to stock one is it possible to do that if yes than how??
3. While using a patched phone or custom rom os phone is it safe to restore phone to factory defaluts??
Please answer ASAP...
1) Yes
2) To the Stock ROM Yes, it is possible. But, not completely stock, as in, your S-OFF will still be S-OFF.
3) I wouldn't recommend it. There seems to be issues with many users with many aspects when they are factory resetting after getting S-OFF / Custom Recovery.

what types of issue can u plz provide me some details??
how to flash the stock ROM??
Please suggest any best good rom to flash yaar?
It seems Wallpapers go missing, Settings dont work, Widgets dont work, stuff like that. There was a thread here somewhere, seems to be lost.
For ROMs, it depends whether you need Sense or not. If you are fine without Sense, take a look at Cyanogenmod 7, and, if you need Sense, take a look at ROMs like JokerDroid and WildPuzzle.
A Complete list can be found here: (Part 2)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
To restore to Stock ROM, simply select a safe flash RUU from Part 5 of the same post, and flash it, the ROM will be restored to stock. Alternately, take a Nandroid backup of your Stock ROM, and restore it later, which will again give you back your Stock ROM
BUddy u r using CM 7 na did u address some bugs in that ROm???

I'm also using cm7. I haven't really faced any major bugs. Most of them are not bugs really. Only thing maybe is gps issue which will be fixed by reflashing the radio.
Reg., themes yes u can have theme chooser themes. And u can use theme Chooser application in the app drawer to apply it.

Hey guys,
I want to try out custom ROM's but not sure if I'm going to like them or not... If I don't like it can I return my phone 100% back to stock gingerbread 2.3.3 and receive OTA updates etc ?
Of course you can.
People switch roms all the time.
Some even have an addiction, to be honest...

If you are rooted at 2.3.3 you can install clockworkmod recovery which is available through rom manager and with it you make a backup of the stock rom
With that backup you can restore it whenever you want to
Make sure you wipe all your data, cache and dalvik cache before flash a custom rom

Yup, if you're rooted, you can use Clockwork to make a backup of your current ROM, which will preserve a snapshot of your phone exactly as it is now (with user settings, apps, SMS messages, everything).
Restore a stock rom from a back up made by Clockwork doesnt unroot and S-ON.
It will only restore stock ROM. To unroot and S-ON, there will be another effort

I'm in a similar situation with the OP. I'm with stock 2.3.3 and I want to try new ROMs. The problem is that, from what I have read, in order to root and unlock I first have to downgrade. Is there a way to temproot now so that I can install clockworkmod recovery and keep a snapshot before I downgrade?
When I bought this HTC G2 it was already rooted and running CyanogenMod 6. something. I updated it to 7.0.3 a while back. I was wondering if I could go back to Tmobile Gingerbread and still keep my phone unlocked so I could take the Tmobile updates without loosing all my files, apps, messages and phone numbers. I never had the original Tmobile rom backup on the card when I got the phone so don't know where to start.

Nevermind, I found it here . But it should be added in the instructions to "chmod 755" su and busybox, not just fixsu.sh.
