Hey! just found the WIFI Xoom pre-order at Futureshop, supposed to be available on 8 Apr!!!
I just flipped my credit cards points to Futur Shop's cards.
Yay!
Just cancelled my B&H order and pre-ordered at FS! Thanks op!
Order Details:
Scheduled for Ground (Estimated arrival date(s) 03/24-04/01/2011)
Anybody else get the same thing??? It would be so sweet if we got it before the 8th!
I got that as well, i think it is the default shipping time (2-3 days) for the ground service, not accounting for that the device will not be available until the 8th....
But Please! i will be more than happy to be wrong ;-)

Yea you're probably right but I most definitely hope you're wrong!
For some odd reason, Best Buy Canada is selling it for $649.99 as opposed to Future Shop's $599.99. (even though they're essentially the same company)

They're owned by the same people but still do business independently, so it's quite common for one to have products or specials the other doesn't. Best Buy will probably bring their price down and if not you can always invoke their "Lowest Price Guarantee".

Why cancelling B&H for FS? For the Warranty?
pre-ordered from FS chances are 599$ is a mistake, since most Canadian prices are usually higher than US prices ... dunno why, our dollar is better now!
Question for you : Should I cancel my order from BH and make a new order with BB Canada or FS ??
If yes, why ? There are most accessory for now with BH..
Should I order one?
I'm desperate to ditch my iPad (I've got a 64 GB 3G model) and move into a more open application ecosystem (without having to jailbreak etc). So I've had a Xoom sitting in my FS cart all day and I've hesitated on pulling the trigger on the order.
But here's the thing. I use the 3G connection on my iPad all the time. Especially when I travel (I've got an AT&T SIM that I swap in when I travel to the states). I realise that I can easily tether the Xoom to my HTC Desire HD for net access when WiFi isn't available but, of course, then I have to worry about the battery life on two devices instead of just one.
So I'm torn between buying the WiFi Xoom now or waiting for the rumoured release of the 3G Xoom in Canada later in the year.
Any advice?

Future shop will hook you up with pretty good deals once you tell them you're interested in the extended warranty (which I think is worth it). Ill get a free SD card and get them to lower the price as well
It'll be much easier to process the warranty at your local FS than having to mail it to B&H.

Get an extra battery for your cell phone. I bought my extra battery on eBay...soooo cheap.
Hum.... On the FS website now : Pre-Orders: Estimated release date: 04/15/2011
Passed from 8 to 15....
I think I'll keep my order from BH.
Well that sucks...

Same here. I decided to wait it out for warranty purposes too. Future Shop is pretty good with their warranties. And like I said before. You can usually get them to throw in a lot of stuff if you get an extended warranty...or even get them to lower the price of the warranty (via decreasing the price of the product).

Well it says "a few weeks"
iPhone next week, N1 2/3 weeks later? Possible.
A "few" will be more like 6 - 7 - 8... Knowing how operators think
actually - considering the guy in the Voda shop told me the nokia n900 is out in Jan for Voda - wonder how that will all pan out.
moto Milestone still has to hit an operator too - surely all the 'super' phones won't come out in jan/feb?
Most ppl don't spend in Jan after the xmas and the jan sales added up ...
---
Makes you think what will be coming out in Nov 2010 - they must be amaaazing!

Plus my other HTC and Samsung android's have been working working flawlessly on 3.

Vodafone aren't really a ripoff, they're possibly the best uk network in terms of connectivity aswell. Although sometimes their deals aren't as good as other networks.
You might be happy with paying £400+ but I know some people (myself included) would be considering it but won't really be able to afford it so getting it presumably for free on a £35 a month contract would be awesome.

Does anyone know how much it would cost though? im assuming we wouldnt be able to buy the phone on its own, and definitely wouldnt be available simfree in the uk if voda is the exclusive carrier, so is it worth it just buying it from google now and then using whichever network we got?
im sure the phone would probably cost more than £400 payg anyway if it was available? im trying to decide whether to buy it now or wait till it comes here? im on vodafone so i dont mind waiting, but i dont think i would be able to get a good deal so a little help/speculation would be cool. thanks
Vodafone aren't selling the device, Google are and are providing Vodafone airtime, so expect the phone out in weeks.
Whether the price plans will be worth it is another matter.

hmm, good point. Im not sure what to do. i suppose il try and restrain myself and wait and see what happens when it comes out here. its always better to wait for the reviews and decide then if its worth it after the initial issues are ironed out. But my heros battery life is ridiculously poor so will see how long i can hold out.
thanks for the reply.

They are at the moment but who knows? It might be avaliable in vodafone stores. Google didn't say that google.com/phone would be the ONLY way to get a N1.
Would it not be possible to get an image of the EU rom and install in on our phones?!

Might indeed, however when the contracts are first released they will be via Google only.
Q. Will you be selling in Vodafone stores or via Vodafone.co.uk?
A. The Google offer is a new way to purchase a mobile phone so will only be available online through Google’s web store (www.google.com/phone).

Expansys have a pre-order page up for the Nexus - so it should definitely come sim free and unlocked when it hits europe in the next few months...
The early press I saw says 450 Euros...
Incidentally the HTC HD2 on there has just been lowered to £425 according to a banner ad that just whizzed by.
Milestone at 399 - so Expansys has countered by lowering prices...
Both cheaper than you'd find on Ebay ironically ...

Do I have any chances If I'll be able to buy Nexus One there without contract?

No, since it's a webshop only you need to have a UK address they can deliver too
I wonder if this will make vodaofone increase their crappy FUP of 500MB.....

I mean officially, without ebay
If you haven't heard already, AT&T's website shows a change in price for the Focus which was originally $199 and is now $99 on contract. I was assuming this was just a random New Year's sale but now I'm not so sure.
Yesterday on Gizmodo, I noticed that Microsoft was advertising WP7 and the Focus but those banners had been there for a while. Then I realized it was also advertising the $99 price and I don't remember AT&T advertising many of their sales before.
Today my cousin needed to return a router to AT&T so I went to the local store in Southern California and I decided to check out the price. There it was on the sign: "$99 on contract". That rules out a web-only sale too. So after my cousin had returned the router. I asked one of the employees there about the phone's price. He said they just got word of the new pricing last night and changed it in-store this morning. I asked him if it was permanent and he replied, "I'm not completely sure. Like I said, we only just got the message yesterday and it just said to change the price."
If it were a sale, then AT&T would probably be screaming about it from the rooftops and make their employees tell customers it was a limited time only...but that's not the case. So it looks like the Focus has officially dropped to $99 on contract.
Now the real question is: why? Seems convenient for the price to drop the week of CES so maybe thats a hint that AT&T will be getting some new smartphones in their lineup soon, maybe even more WP7s. Another thing to consider is that AT&T is trying to rope in as many customers as it possibly can before Verizon gets the iPhone 4, which is rumored and has some evidence to support it happening a couple of weeks after CES. Take it as you will, but a great cutting-edge smartphone is now $100 and thats pretty sweet if you ask me.
Well, assuming the Surround and Quantum haven't dropped too, the Focus is the only 8GB WP7, and the 8GB iPhone is $99. It could be Samsung/Microsoft/AT&T wanted that price lower so the Focus was clearly a better choice.
@FishFace - Both the Samsung Focus and the LG Quantum are getting the $100-pricepoint-treatment.

That's what is so odd. Why are only the Quantum and the Focus getting the price drop?
My only theory right now is that AT&T wanted all three at the $100 price point but HTC declined while LG & Samsung both agreed. I'm sticking with my master theory that AT&T wants as many people as humanly possible to come to AT&T before Verizon's iPhone is announced as this also makes sense with AT&T offering early upgrades for people interested in buying the iPhone 4.
$99 on contract price is so so as most online dealers already sold them for $49 or free. However, the biggest story in this price reduction is that both Focus and Quantum now sell for $399 off contract. That's a very attractive price for me w/o (not even possible right now) sign up two more years of contract.
I suspect the HTC doesn't sell as well as the other two. And also this move is in anticipation of WP7 phones will be released to Verizon and Sprint soon, not iPhone. iPhone itself has the price drop as well at the same time.
iphone4 is not the threat. It would be the iPhone5 ! Or even WP8 !
And the strategy to go to a $100 now is brilliant. I mean how many smartphones that are really worth buying are at this price point? Seems to me that they have found a great price point and will sell millions of them. They proabably get some kind of rebate from Microsoft for selling so many units and Microsoft will benefit from increased users buying Apps or XboxLive games.
No different than a Toyota Corolla. Make a good car and sell it at a great price point and they sold LOTS of them. Build up a huge customer base and when the customer is ready to replace the Corolla, then they up sell to the Camry or to the Lexus., or sell them another Corolla. Eitherway they have huge following.
HTC doesn't know how to make a reasonably priced phone. Well, they know how to make a phone that should be reasonably priced, that's all they make, but they don't price them according to what they're actually worth.
In case you guys are interested, Amazon Wireless is selling the Focus for $0.01 today. Stock is definitely on the move. I'm guessing a Focus 2 with Super AMOLED Plus might be on the way.
Pretty simple, ATT is the only company presently that has a Galaxy S windows7 phone, my guess is the rest of the cell companies are about to get their versions too, much like they all did with Android.
If the Focus is priced $100 cheaper than tmobile, verizon, sprint galaxy S versions, they hope it will take the steam out of their fanfare.
Only reason there isnt a Windows7 phone in my house currently is cos I only have tmobile and sprint.
EDIT: And no galaxy S with the hummingbird or SAMOLED screen

Very unlikely I think, if they had a new Focus coming out it would have been announced at CES. And Focus is still a very new phone and apparently selling very well (no wonder, it's amazing).

Just bought one off Amazon for $0.01. Friend got one through AT&T for the same price after he told them about the Amazon offer.
ATT told me that most likely its because its a 3g phone and they're in the process of rolling out the 4g network. Whatever, I got the phone for 0.01...Including shipping!
It says in the website that it can be as upgrade to an existing line. My question is, what if your line is not eligible for upgrade yet. Will your bill show up with the list price after a month or two? Has anyone encounter this yet?
If you are not yet qualified, you have to pay full out of contact price which is $399 if you go to an AT&T store or $499 from 3rd party online.

Could be but somehow I doubt it has anything to do with 4G, since the average consumer I don't think knows about 4G or cares at this point. The fact that they are willing to give you the phone for free tells you they know they will make their money back by the end of the contract, with a sizable profit .

i had 10 months left in my contract, and 2 separate phone calls by me (and one by a friend who got the same deal) said that my old contract was being ended, and they would create a new one that started the day the phone was activated. They know if you're eligible for an upgrade - they ask for your phone # and last name. My friend who called had 3 months left on his contract, and was unable to get the deal at first. When he called AT&T, they cleared his contract and he checked on their again -and it was eligible. He ended up buying through ATT because they said they'd match the same deal.

Could you ask him how he got it through AT&T? I just asked a branch store and they said they could not offer the $0.01 deal...
I'm thinking of getting one off contract for $400. (don't wanna get locked in to Rogers - $400 voice cancellation + $100 data cancellation, 3 yr contract).
What have your experiences been like with unlocking? I heard ATT is refusing to unlock, and unlock codes go for up to $40 online...
When I was in-store the other day, I'm pretty sure the sale price on the Focus said until 1/31. I think it's only good for a couple more weeks, but we'll see.

I seriously hope this isn't true.. $50 more isn't a deal breaker, but I bet the keyboard will be more as well..
Wait a sec... if they raise the Transformer $50 and the keyboard $25 or 50, we're talking well over $600, $700 with tax. The cheapest Honeycomb tablet is quickly becoming the most expensive!
EDIT: Just checking some US prices on other tablets - they are the same price in both Canada and the states for the Playbook and Xoom. If Canadian dealers are going to play games with pricing because of popularity, the transformer will be my last purchase at the store which overcharges.
The exchange rate is currently around $1US to $0.95CDN and Asus posted that $399 press release with Canada in mind. Here's hoping to that price being a premature placeholder until they get stock (which was 0 when I went). Hopefully, there'll be deals coming out in the next few days and price matching opportunities too.

Unfortunately, I can't post links yet, but it looks like you are reading the xe.com chart wrong. Do a specific currency conversion of 1 CAD to USD and you'll see what I mean. I'm not trying to be pendantic or anything, but the conversion rate is something I follow closely for various reasons.
As you said, though, Canada tends to get screwed over regardless. I'm pretty sure I dropped an extra $50 or so on my Archos 101 when I got it compared to the US, but it ended up being worth it for the shipping expense I would have had otherwise. It looks like Canada Computers is mostly closed today, so hopefully I can call tomorrow and see if I can get a verification.

It looks like Canada Computers is mostly closed today, so hopefully I can call tomorrow and see if I can get a verification.

you both said it right, you just said it the opposite way... please keep this thread on topic
I have added Expansys to the OP, even though they are quite ridiculous.
Hi everyone,
What do you guys think about this source?
http://techfibe.com/2011/06/17/exclusive-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-landing-on-bell-july-14th/
Looks like we Canadians might get our hands on this device next month.
I was going to purchase the international version but now waiting for official release seems like a better option. Do you guys have any predictions for the price without contract? (Bell sells Atrix for $600 so It might be a bit expensive than that, this would still be cheaper than buying it online right now b/c of all the shipping and tax costs)
I sure hope it's true
I wonder if it's the same version as the international one, or if it's NFC enabled?
I'd really like to change my SGS for this beauty, but this time I'll test the sh*t out of the GPS, before the 14 days "buyer's remorse" period it's over.

This is good news for fellow canucks. After ordering it from handtec and paying import taxes it came up to almost $800. Don't mind having an unbranded and factory unlocked model though. And yeah, it'll be interesting to see if it ends up having NFC, even though id never see myself actually using it.

I doubt it will have NFC, it would be nice to have it but I really don't care as I don't think anyone will actually use it for next two years.
The only reason I am holding back on ordering from handtec (390 GBP = $620 CAD.. price has dropped quite a bit) is b/c of the warranty and returns policy. If the device is defective I would have to ship it back to Europe and its just too much of a hassle.
I am not too worried about the tax/import charges as I will have to pay taxes if I buy from bell. So in the end I'll end up saving around $25 if I buy from Bell. And since the phone will be locked it ends up costing the same as handtec, that is if Bell sells the phone for $600-$625.
On a side note, I do look forward to switching from Wind to Bell or Rogers though. What do you guys think about the service, which one is better in terms of reception in GTA, Ontario?

It will end up more with the crappy CC exchange rate you'll end up getting. I remember calculating my exchange cost on Royal Bank site to $723 ..Visa ended up charging $766.
Thanks

You are right. Thanks. One more reason to wait for the Canadian version.

Rogers for sure, I'm in Markham and travel to Hamilton for school and I always have reception in both areas... but Rogers plans are expensive, thats the only downfall.
Mobile Syrup reports the HTC Sensation is being released by Bell on July 5th. The approximate retail value is $549.95 which would be some nice competition to the Samsung Galaxy S II.
I should sell my Incredible S before these two monsters hit Bell
Was in TO past weekend and checked out the phone @ Pac Mall and the price for the S2 is between $700 to $720 unlocked depending on which store you ask. Already ordered the case via eBay and once I get the case (when this strike is over) then will get the phone. I am with Rogers and IMHO always thought Rogers had better reception than Bell but probably that's cuz I have always been biased against Bell and the idea that their reception is not as good as Rogers. =)

I'm torn between this and the new Galaxy tab. Girlfriend won't let me have either but I must have one! :-D

Have both... I would get the Galaxy S2 first... it's actually faster than any Tegra tablet and can play 1080p MKV files (unlike Tegra tablets which struggle with even high bitrate 720p files). But the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is quite nice in its own right =)

I can confirm this release.
I was at my Bell store and the guy said the release was in the "third week of July"
I asked for the price but he said he was unsure at the time, he said he would probably know next week.
I also went down to the Rogers store in the same mall and the clerk there had no idea what the S2 was... guess it isn't coming to Rogers?

Rumour has it that Bell would selling this for $170 with 3 year contracts and $599.95 off contract.
Source: http://mobilesyrup.com/2011/07/06/bell-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-4g-will-be-169-95-on-a-3-year/
Would be tragic if it were a tegra version
It's the international version (not sure on NFC) selling for 169.99 on a 3 year contract and 599.99 on no contract
Wonder how many americans will be making a trip next weekend up here =P

Has anyone managed to get their hands on a 10.1 3G yet? Any countries where they are available at all?
And if so, can anyone suggest a retailer which offers international shipping?
The US will have a 4G model through Verizon. Pre-orders are being taken now with a 4-6 week estimated ship delay. It has said 4-6 weeks for two weeks.
Based on the Xoom 4G update debacle, I'll only buy the 10.1 4G when it is in stores. When this happens is anyone's guess at this point.
I've got no info to support this, but I think the Xoom's LTE update and the 10.1's launch are somehow connected.
If the Samsung 4G model ships before the Xoom upgrade program is started, my irritation being an early adopter will turn into anger.
And yes, I own a Xoom and a WiFi 10.1. I much prefer the form factor on the Samsung (Samsung is wider and longer, but much thinner).

I was worried about not having a GSM radio on mine, but having a phone with WiFi Hotspot has saved me the extra charge and no longer personally feel need for the GSM version, just a personal thought
yup me two*
i'll use tethering but some carriers dont allow it or unless you pay a fee
maybe he's in that case...
Thanks for the replies. I am in South Africa so the upcoming 4G model is not an option, I am looking for a 3G model.
I have considered a Wifi model but data plans on a voice contract are very expensive here. Dedicated data plans on a dedicated data SIM are however very cheap. As such I can get one year of 2GB a month for a once off fee of $120 (+- &$10 a month).
Adding a data plan to my phone contract would on the other hand cost me more than double that so its not really an option.
I am hooked on the 10.1 as well so not considering any other tablet. If worst comes to show I will get the Wifi model but if I can get a 3G model then I will, even if its $200 more.

I travel to Africa often, what I suggest you get is a MiFi such as Novatel 2352 which I use, I simply get a data SIM card and my laptop, cellphone, IPAD, Smasung TAB can all get a wireless signal wherever I am, save yoruself getting a GSM device and invest the extra dosh on one of these devices, cost around $200, well worth it
Im in Norway and just ordered the White 3G edition form CDON.COM for 4600 NOK
Got mine (GSM 3G) from Samsung store in Indonesia. Dont believe they'll do international shipping.
