What's happening to my FR0008? - HTC Aria General

Below is copy of output from Log Collector after an occurrance of incident which results in screen showing "Loading". Aria has gone to sleep. WIFI is marked to stay always on. At about 20:57 I wake Aria, swipe screen to change window and get the "Loading" screen. After 20-30 seconds am back to home screen.
This incident has occurred many times in the last couple of weeks. I think I have removed all apps which may have been added. Can anyone identify specific actions I can take to correct this?
Thanks, Ken

Don't have a log output but I noticed my FR8 has been acting wonky lately also. Even though I haven't had any increased messages, nor have I installed any additional apps, it's been getting slower to respond to things in general--even after rebooting it.
Also something else which bugs the hell out of me is the Alarm Icon keeps popping up and disapearing at random times for random intervals. One second it's there, the next it's gone. A few minutes or an hour later it pops up and stays there for a few minutes, then disappears. Doesn't seem to have any frequency to it.
Very annoying seeing all of my notification bar stuff shift constantly!

Try replacing your kernel. The one in FR008 was pulled from Cyanogenmod, and there apparently have been complaints of bad battery life. I replaced the kernel with Gene Poole's hoxnet 004b kernel and haven't encountered any problems.
When I update FR008 due to updates in apps, I go into recovery, wipe both caches, then install FR008. After that I immediately go to the "install from zip" option in the menu and install the 004b kernel. Reboot and done.
The 004b kernel is compiled from HTC's official sources, with a change in the cpu speed table to allow for overclocking with SetCPU.

Installed the 004b kernel. Battery use significantly decreased - 6 hr since unplugged with WiFi always on and maybe 15 min internet use. Batt shows @95%.
Thanks.

You're welcome.
I'm at 38% battery life as of right now after taking the phone off charge at 11am this morning. That percentage is despite heavy Internet usage and auto sync every hour. In addition, 90% of the time WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS are off.
I know I can improve battery life further if I simply shut off auto sync, but I don't want to.

Any functionality differences between the FR8 kernel and the 004b kernel?
Also, I might try this in a few but is it possible to simply flash the kernel in place on top of a pre-existing setup without having to wipe the phone? Always time consuming for me to setup all of my accounts after each complete wipe, and to re-do my home screen.
Something I've noticed the past few days about the annoying clock icon, it seems to do it more when I'm home. I know that sounds odd. Also, later in the afternoon, the battery begins draining faster than normal. Almost as if some connection is going full speed, but I have nothing running
The clock icon is so annoying I'd love to know why it appears/disappears for no reason, even with the alarm disabled it keeps doing it.

Vesperwillow, I cleared the cache and Davlik cache, but did not clear any data, so lost nothing. Result has been much better battery life, so far, and loss of most ability to wake with the button. Am not now having the errors and reloading I experienced with vanilla FR008. Recommend try this.

I'm about 3 hours late for bed and tried a quick search.. found 003b, can't find 004b. Can you provide a link to the thread? Much appreciated.. passing out now

Thankies! Will look at it tonight or tomorrow

Thanks again for linking 004b. I flashed it the next day and have been trying it out since.
It seems to have much better "idle" battery management, meaning just sitting doing nothing it uses much less of the battery. If I let it sit and don't do anything with it all day, I can come home with about 75+ left on the battery versus the 50% I'd usually have.
Light usage (a few texts here and there, no data/calls) also seems to have somewhat improved battery usage. By the end of the day with just some texting, I again have more than previous.
However, once I begin using data or making a call, the battery drops even faster than the FR0008 kernel. Also once it gets into the 30% range it seems to begin trickling off percent by percent. I actually sat a few minutes lastnight when I got home and watched it drop every other minute or so.. 29% .... 28%.... 27%.. with nothing running on the phone.
The original rom with FR0008 would do that, but only once it got into the teens. Either way I don't understand why it starts trickling off like that, never used to with the 2.1 rom.
Only other thing I could add is that the battery usage hardly falls when playing mp3's at 2/3 volume, which I find interesting because prior to this upgrade the battery would just piss out while playing mp3's and I'd often have to have it plugged in.
Would be great if there was a way to see why this is occuring. Again, nothing was running in any of these instances, no data applications, updates or anything.

Now that you mention it, it happens to me too!
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA Premium App

Time to hold HTC's toes to the fire then.
Seriously, the hoxnet kernel IS the stock kernel. The only change Gene Poole made to it was to change the frequency table so SetCPU would work. But if you're concerned, flash the HK kernel in the Liberated FR008 thread. That is an untouched kernel.

A bug in Messaging for Windows Mobile 5/6?

A little while ago I upgraded to one of lvsw's roms to get the gps and audio (bass) working on my trinity, but found an interesting side effect: i could no longer listen to my voicemail messages (they're emailed to me as .wav files). I'm with 3 in Australia, who send voicemail messages as emails, the title of what is supposed to be the attachment is this really stupid name: "LogicaCMG Voice Message (1.1) (xx seconds)" instead of something normal like "message.wav" or something. When I try to open one of these attachments, Messaging says it doesn't know how to handle this kind of file. I wasn't sure if it was the ROM or what so I upgraded to the most recent ROM from LVSW which supports WM6 (great work btw, seriously!!!) but have found that the problem is still around. It's now clear that its not the roms' fault, but partly MS's, and partly my network operators'. Read on...
I dug a little deeper into the problem and actually downloaded the fully multipart mime source of the emails into thunderbird to find what I think is the culprit here. Have a look at the following (I've omitted the end of the message):

There's probably a few Mozilla tags in the header because I downloaded it from Thunderbird to have a look at the raw form.
There's two interesting things about this message.
1. It contains a Content-Description field.
2. Thunderbird can read the email fine, setting the title of the attachment to "message.wav".
I saved the wav file locally, constructed a new email to be sent to my phone in thunderbird with that wav file and sent it off to my phone. When I received it on my phone, I had no problems playing it at all. Here's what the Thunderbird Sent Message looked like:

The major difference here in the attachment part section is the lack of the Content-Description field. The other difference is that the mime type is x-wav instead of wav, but I've checked that on my phone and it should be fine.
Given that another email client has no problems ignoring this (stupid, in this case) Content-Description field, I'd say that Windows Mobile Messaging sees this field and then completely ignores the content-disposition etc fields. Its also a little wrong that LogicaCMG, who obviously did a little consulting to 3 Australia, decided to approproate the wav file format also.
I guess my question is,
1. Do people think I'm on the right track woth this problem, and
2. Does anyone have any solution that I can implement on my phone to tell it to ignore the Content-Description field, or something else that would work?
Many thanks
Did you ever find a solution to this?
I am seeing the exact same problem, although my setup is a little different.
I am running my own phone pbx (Trixbox with Asterisk). I receive my voicemails as emails and cant listen to them. If I forward them from my desktop there is no problem.
I also tracked it down to windows mobile choking on the Content-Description header. My problem is I can't find a way to remove this from the original message.
Anybody ideas?
Thanks, Brian
I'm sorry to say that I didn't. I instead found some other network settings for 3 Australia that gave me a workaround for my problem. With those other settings the content was passed to my phone correctly.
i'm with three Australia, too and have the same problem
hi there,
I performed a hard reset on my TYTN2 the other day, and now I too have the LogicaCMG bug. What were those connection settings that you were able to change in order to work around the problem?
Regards, David.
Hey there - I am also on 3 Australia and I just updated my ROM in a HTC Touch Pro and I have exactly the same problem.
Please post your workaround/solution.
Cheers,
MadDave

rk-Calendar-Update: Mass Update 'all day Calendar events'[15OCT2007]

There is an issue with the calendar reminders, that is when you have an ‘all day event’ then the device would wake up at 12:00 AM to remind you. For some people it might be ok but most of us want device to show the reminder at some convenient time (such as 08:00 AM when having a coffee).
Here is the possible fix(There might be other solutions too which I am not aware of)
This is a small utility I built which will allow you to mass update all such events to some fixed time span. That is converting all these all day events to non all day with the option to set your own time span.
Update 1.0.1
Now the application also updates all All Day Event's default reminder time as per your requirement.
Choose your reminder hours from the new tab added and update all All day events
It also has a command line interface so if you want to automate this process you could do it as follows.
Code:
To Full day to non full day --> \Program Files\rk-Calendar-Update.exe “08:00” “22:00”
[COLOR=blue]To just change the reminder time(in hours) --> \Program Files\rk-Calendar-Update.exe 13[/COLOR]
Watch the format above and space between the two times specified
For the reminder update just supply the reminder time in hours such as 13 hours in the above example
Important notes:
Utility would convert the actual events to fixed time events permanently. So when synchronize with your desktop pc changes applied back to your pc and all your all day events have been changed to fixed time! If that is acceptable use this app.
I have tested it only on my device(Hermes/WM6) so you test it on your devices (I will recommend some kind of backup before running it just in case )
I have seen some of the events did not convert right away when there is a conflict in appointments. But running the utility again converted all successfully.
You can run this update any number of times, it only updates the full day events if found.
I can add some automation to it, but only if anyone needs that
Note: This application requires Compact Framework 2.0
You need compact framework 2.0 installed inorder to run this application. The compact framework is already part of WM6, so if your device is WM6 skip this step. But most of the WM5 devices do not have this update. So you must download here and run the installation on your desktop (then active sync to update your device). Only after completing this step install the application.
Download from here
Very cool. I am definitely going to try this out as this has been a pet peeve of mine for the longest time! Thanks!
What may have been a better fix would have been to change all the default reminder times from 18 hours to 16 hours (so the reminder goes off at 8am instead of 6am). Then you can still have the "all day event" instead of a fixed period of time, and you can avoid the annoying 6am reminder.
Would it be possible to create a similar fix to the one you created so that all "All day events" are converted to a 16 hour reminder instead of the default 18 hour reminder?

For me the 'All Day Events' always woke me up at 12:00 AM(Midnight) irrespective of default reminder time you specified. So what you are saying looks like you are getting the reminders at 6AM since your default reminder time is 18Hrs! Please confirm the above.

It is very well possible, but let me understand the issue first(based on the question above)
good stuff........
Yes. That's correct.
I have the default reminder box checked in Tools -> Options -> Preference Tab (Calendar). I do this because I actually do prefer the default reminder of 15 minutes for the meetings/appointments. However, when this is checked, it also sets the new All Day Events to have the default reminder of 18 hours, which causes the reminder alarm to go off at 6am!
The annoying thing is that the default reminder in the "Options" is set at 15 minutes for new meetings/appointments (which can be changed); however, it doesn't give you an option to change the default of the All Day Event reminders from 18 hours to something else.
After some research, I realized it's actually not possible to change the 18 hour default in Outlook. See the bottom of page 3 of this Office Online training: http://dace-rancho.org/QuickRef_MSCal.pdf
So you have to go into each event manually and change the reminder to a different time (change the 18 hours to some other time) in order for it not to wake you up at flippin' 6am! I have so many all day events created that this will be a major pain. Not to mention that I'm sure I will forget to change it each time I create a new one.
So if you can work some magic so that I can keep the default reminder box checked, but have the default reminder changed on "All Day Events" to 16 hours instead of 18 hours, I would really appreciate it (and be very amazed!).
Thanks!
14 - 16 hours chang
or even 12 to start at 10:00 a.m. is rather enought -
would appreciate that toooooooo - plzzz change - beside
it is one of my most prefered features as i keep my brains
sticking in the touch - contacts, calendar, notes ...
thxs in advance
Update 1.0.1
Now the application supports mass update of 'Reminder Time' of all day events
Awesome! I'm excited to try it out. (The stupid alarm woke me up again this morning.) Thanks so much for your help!!!
other solution
This script above did not work for me. I got some error after installing it. Therefore I decided to write my own macro.
This is what it does: when outlook start, it checks all calendar items, if one of them has a reminder set to18 hours before, then the reminder is disabled
Running this script takes a few seconds (depending on the number of items in your calender) every time Outlook starts.
To install this script do the following:
• In outlook type Alt-F11 (the VBA editor window will pop up).
• Double click on Microsoft outlook Objects/ThisOutlookSession and copy/paste the following code in the right window:
Code:
‘This script was created by Ruut Brandsma on 12/04/2007
Private Sub Application_Startup()
Call Check_all_calender_items_and_disable_reminder_if_set_to_18_hours
End Sub
Sub Check_all_calender_items_and_disable_reminder_if_set_to_18_hours()
Set myNamespace = Application.GetNamespace("MAPI")
Set Application.ActiveExplorer.CurrentFolder = myNamespace.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderCalendar)
For Each item In Application.ActiveExplorer.CurrentFolder.Items
With item
If .Class = olAppointment Then
If .ReminderMinutesBeforeStart = 18 * 60 And .ReminderSet Then
.ReminderSet = False
.Save
End If
End If
End With
Next
Set Application.ActiveExplorer.CurrentFolder = myNamespace.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderInbox)
End Sub
• Close your outlook. Say yes to the save changes popup.
• Restart outlook and during startup all calendar items are checked and if needed adjusted.
If you not want to disable the reminders, but only to adjust the reminder time from 18 hours to e.g. 15 hours, just replace ".ReminderSet = False" in the code above to ".ReminderMinutesBeforeStart = 15 * 60"
I used Outlook Profesiional 2003 to test the script, but might also work for other version.
How do you make it run when new appointments are received
I did some modifications for all day event and made it start at the end of outlook startup.. But a new appointement requires me to rerun the script or restart outlook.
Private Sub Application_MAPILogonComplete()
Call Check_all_calender_items_and_disable_reminder_if_set_to_18_hours
End Sub
Sub Check_all_calender_items_and_disable_reminder_if_set_to_18_hours()
Set myNamespace = Application.GetNamespace("MAPI")
Set Application.ActiveExplorer.CurrentFolder = myNamespace.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderCalendar)
For Each Item In Application.ActiveExplorer.CurrentFolder.Items
With Item
If .Class = olAppointment Then
If .AllDayEvent = True Then
.ReminderSet = True
.ReminderMinutesBeforeStart = 15 * 60
.Save
End If
End If
End With
Next
Set Application.ActiveExplorer.CurrentFolder = myNamespace.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderInbox)
End Sub
I think I have found a bug. The automatic update daylight savings time happened twice last month on my HD2 after using this.

MessageInterceptor NotifyAndDelete - message still comes through after delay

static void Main()
{
if (!MessageInterceptor.IsApplicationLauncherEnabled("aPush"))
{
MessageInterceptor rule = new MessageInterceptor(InterceptionAction.NotifyAndDelete,false);
MessageCondition condition = new MessageCondition(MessageProperty.Body,
MessagePropertyComparisonType.Contains,
"NEW EMAIL jjj123", true);
rule.MessageCondition = condition;
rule.EnableApplicationLauncher("aPush", @"\Program Files\push\push.exe", "EventFired");
}
OutlookSession session = new OutlookSession();
Microsoft.WindowsMobile.PocketOutlook.MessagingApplication.Synchronize(session.EmailAccounts["asu.edu"]);
Application.Exit();
}
The application is successfully launched, syncs my email, and exits, but the SMS message still comes through after a short delay - what am I doing wrong?
I hae also noticed that all other pending sms messages are delayed until this one comes through too which can be up to a minute... What gives?

GMT time error...help!

Since installing Dutty's ROM I have had a daily error as follows:
"Invalid timer occured, use setting menu to set valid parameters. Also make sure your device Timezone GMT matches your city Timezone GMT. You can change your device Timezone GMT from Settings -> More -> Date & Time menu"
I have checked and made sure my GMT timezone is correct...selected as "GMT London, Dublin" within Settings -> Clocks & Alarms...and this matches my city, but keep getting this problem, especially around 2300 and 0000 hours. However if I change the time to one hour ahead then the error disappears (but my clock is 1 hour ahead)!? Is there any way to change the GMT to daylight savings so the one hour is adjusted automatically?
Thabks for any advice
