Hi. I need to make sdcard2 as internal memory and sdcard as external memory. Is there any way to make this without changing the whole ROM?
Thanks in advance.

It most certainly can, I've done it already, running Beast ROM, and it's as easy as changing two lines in the vold.fstab file as is shown on the second page of the linked page.

Hi all!
I have a Legend recently rooted and running CyanogenMod. Great experience. Just starting play with and see how works.
My first problem is I put in to much rubbish during the process and just playing with new rom now want to optimize. I already have a 8 gb sd card.
how I should proced to made a clean instalation to be able to optimize as much as better and wich order shoud be done.
I gess to format the sd card and also ram from legend but...
wich is next step?
how many partitions and how bigger?
i would like to run the apks from sd insted of phone.
thanks a lot!
1Gb ext3 should be enough for moving apps too, since alot of apps won't even move, you'd have to install hundreds on the SD card to even get near filling it up.
You could always use Blayo's B.02 rom and use the data2ext to have ALL your /data on the SD card, this supposedly increases performance too.

I think you need a pretty fast SD card if your using data2ext as well for it to increase speed. Want to try, but I'm using the 2 Gb card that came with the phone

you can shrink the fat partition and add an ext2 in front using a partition manager.
I have a 500 Mb partition on a 4 Gb card and have about 300 apps installed.
with still a lot of space free.

The link to Darktremor A2sd is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719164
There is also a installation guide there. You can partition your sd card through recovery or Rom Manager.

Yes I know(you told me) What I meant was that there is a shortcut in Rom Manager to partition SD card. Don't know if that's the best procedure, but it worked for me.

not necessary, but recommended.
It fools the system into thinking a section of the SD card is made for the phone. on my Magic i HAD to partition the SDCard for certain things to work properly. on this phone, not so much.

questionable. all of the apps are store in the /android.secure folder on the SDcard. The only thing it really does is make where that folder isn't viewable on a windows machine w/o a special program to view them.
Hey guys, hoping you could could give me more of a 'step-by-step' guide on how to expand my internal memory with my 8gb SD card. Please keep it mega-simple, I only got this phone yesterday, and managed to flash ICS thanks to a very basic tutorial.
Thanks

?? What ROM r u using ??
The easiest way is using application or script that move application to SD card. These things will move your application to your sd card and not wasting your internal memory. it's work perfectly fine.
There are many script available - chose one that match your ROM cause not all script are working perfectly to every ROM.
try search using A2SD and ....... (your ROM) to see which one work and which one donot...... Unfortunately i have to tell u that some script might working well with someone's phone (even u have the same ROM).
The second way is to install the app to SD program, like link2sd, app2sd... it's free on the market. Also this program is not working on everyone's phone. However it's easier to install.
after install script and application there might be a problem like low sound, lag, internet issue etc. so check that everything is Ok after u do anything.
I can't give u a step by step 'cause i dont know which ROM r u using.....

it's different for roms indeed. generally we have app2sd, app2sd+(aka app2ext), data2ext, d2sd, ad2sdx and so on.
the most basic and convenient 1 is link2sd from play store~
i think it's impossible to expand an internal storage. capacity is fixed. i read somewhere that some of space will be used for kernel and ROMs wil use another some of internal memory space to copy system files. so normally you will have internal memory available around 150-200MB depends on partition layout you make. the only way if you want to install many application is as mentioned above to move your application to SDcard, and i think link2sd app is the easiest way to do that
Hey guys,
I haven't found any info on the forums about this yet. Does anyone know how to/or have a modified vold.fstab for the stock TouchWiz rom?
I have a general idea on what to do, but I'd rather not attempt this one by myself!
Thanks in advance - zmag

That's not what he's talking about. He wants to use his extSdCard as his internal storage. I used that on my s4 with a 64gb class 10 with awesome results
Hehe well you're correct thatsupnow, but I did consider Link2SD Pro - but I would rather edit the vold.fstab directly (and correctly)
There's also an app on the play store (free) called Root External 2 Internal SD, but it looks like it was made for the GS3 - again, would rather edit the source than install another app.
I am using NextAppSDFix at the moment, until I install Xposed and use the Xposed mod (which I suppose is no different than using the app)
But I havent seen any modded vold.fstab files for the GS5 yet, which honestly is surprising to me. I figured someone would've had one by now...
Maybe there's a rom that has this already? and can be used on the stock ND2 rom? Any input on the subject is greatly appreciated. Just wanna use my 64gb card instead of having 10gb.
Thanks in advance! - zmag
Yeah man development has been pretty slow. I wonder if the mod for the s4 could be manipulated to work on the s5?

You didn't search very far if you didn't run smack into at least half a dozen forum threads detailing various ways to swap the internal and external SD cards. Not to mention threads that explain at length how to edit vold.fstab. However, while vold.fstab maps sysfs devices to filesystem mount points, it isn't a good idea to edit it directly as an update would easily break your mod..
A better method is to swap the internal and external SD cards is to employ a script to remount the two storage locations. Then transpose them using the -bind switch. A script to do this can be found here.
.
Ok, well I meant in the S5 forums - I didn't know that the S4 scripts applied at all.
Sorry for the trouble... I'm coming from an HTC Evo 4G LTE, I'm still getting acquainted with Samsung's file system.
I don't plan on updating from ND2 any time soon. If I do, I usually try and make a nandroid backup first just in case anything breaks on me.
Thanks again for the help!
my samsung s5 is not detecting the microsd
please help.
i tried in other cells the microsd and its working, and with a root software i can see that the cell read the microsd, but i cant use ir and i need more space in my cell.
or if someone please can copy and paste here the vold.fstab for the verizon samsung s5.
thanks
vold.fstab g900v
dev_mount sdcard /storage/sdcard1 auto /devices/msm_sdcc.2/mmc_host
Don't know if it helps
Ater I update to 6.0 and the external sd card is formated that means I will lose all the apps and games I have already moved to the ext car correct? Because there is still data on the internal storage of those apps and games will the apps and games automatically download again or will I have to download each one myself?
Yes, it will format your SD and put an encryption key on it. You won't be able to use the SD on any other machine except for the one that formatted it.

Formatting a memory card will delete everything on it. Backup the existing data and then copy it back on after the format process. But, you'll have to use the device to copy because the card will be encrypted.
I think the interesting question, which also I don't know an answer to, is this:

You have to do it manually. Android doesn't know which apps you want on the Ext-SD or the internal storage.
The safest way to do this would seem to be:
-uninstall all apps currently on SD
-reinstall after SD format
If you want to preserve any other type of existing data, back it up somewhere else, then re-copy back onto the SD.

There is no need to uninstall apps on SD.
There will be a persistent notification that asks if you want to forget the SD Card (that you had earlier formatted it as Internal i.e. Adopted Storage).
If you confirm, the encryption key will be deleted from the phone, and apps stored on MicroSD won't be readable by your phone or any other device.
The question: if automatic downloading of apps will occur has been answered above by Neo3D.
And when the external sd stop working, the system crash ?
