How can I expand my internal storage? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey guys, hoping you could could give me more of a 'step-by-step' guide on how to expand my internal memory with my 8gb SD card. Please keep it mega-simple, I only got this phone yesterday, and managed to flash ICS thanks to a very basic tutorial.
Thanks

?? What ROM r u using ??
The easiest way is using application or script that move application to SD card. These things will move your application to your sd card and not wasting your internal memory. it's work perfectly fine.
There are many script available - chose one that match your ROM cause not all script are working perfectly to every ROM.
try search using A2SD and ....... (your ROM) to see which one work and which one donot...... Unfortunately i have to tell u that some script might working well with someone's phone (even u have the same ROM).
The second way is to install the app to SD program, like link2sd, app2sd... it's free on the market. Also this program is not working on everyone's phone. However it's easier to install.
after install script and application there might be a problem like low sound, lag, internet issue etc. so check that everything is Ok after u do anything.
I can't give u a step by step 'cause i dont know which ROM r u using.....

it's different for roms indeed. generally we have app2sd, app2sd+(aka app2ext), data2ext, d2sd, ad2sdx and so on.
the most basic and convenient 1 is link2sd from play store~

i think it's impossible to expand an internal storage. capacity is fixed. i read somewhere that some of space will be used for kernel and ROMs wil use another some of internal memory space to copy system files. so normally you will have internal memory available around 150-200MB depends on partition layout you make. the only way if you want to install many application is as mentioned above to move your application to SDcard, and i think link2sd app is the easiest way to do that

Maybe your partition is not big enough?
big enough. i say its 800mb free
Yes , You have 800 mb but on general partion.Check out how much space you have on ext partitions.
I check it in the easiest way without anyy software.I'm connectin WF to my TV and get in USB and there are few drivers to choose then check info about and here it is.
Or with some kind of software in PC
Internal 25mb free, External (SD) 837mb free.
I advice you to make a quite bigger Internal and then check out'em

Moving to SD does not move the whole app to SD many times. Internal memory is occupied too, maybe 25 mb is too less? What's the exact error msg that its giving?
Have the same problem.
As far as i know APP2SD doesnt use the ext partition (just the Darktremor Apps2SD does) - but the APP uses the Froyo/Gingerbread buildin function and just saves some amount of the Apps to the SD card.
Somehow it worked for me if i try it a 2nd time (or after restarting the device in begin - after it worked fine for me).
But sometimes if I install apps it also tells me - not enough space - and i have 37MB internal left - even the app is just about 500kb.... - anyway it also works if i just try agains ome seconds later.
Annoying - but perhaps also works for u

Could you also tell us how 2 make bigger internal !??! If I dont want to disasemble my device and replace a chip?
As far as i know u just can get bigger internal space by moving apps or systemparts to the SD card... and thats where he has problems.
(But yes many custom roms already do it a bit: dalvik cache,.. - but u need 2 reflash another rom.... not part of this discussin atm i think)
i didnt have any problems with 2.3 nightly 49# and other nightlys or even 2.2 roms. But with new 2.3 RC1 i have these problems. so im moving to other rom

[Q] how using sdcard as internal memory ?

Hello,
i'm newbie.. i have a phone Htc..rooted..rom cm7.. and when i need more space in memory i use app2sd.. very simple..
So.. i've buy a iconia 500 16gb.. and with same idea i take a sdcard 32gb ..
I root.. i've thor 14.2 installed on my device and i try to use app2sd because i've try a lot of new apk lol... but .. not possible .. i don't have the option "move to sd" .. and app2sd say to me "sdcard" emulated...
What does it means ? there is a solution to use external sdcard like memory card ?
thanks a lot and sorry for my poor english
Fab
Simple answer. No.
There is an app called Link2sd in the market that will let you transfer apps to your sd card. It isn't an easy setup, but I managed to make it work. I've been using it for over a month and so far, even updating my games seems to go smoothly. Get a class 4 card at the very least or it isn't even worth the effort.
Also there is an app made to move Gameloft games to the sd card called "gl to sd". I can also confirm that this method works on the Iconia.
I haven't looked for any other solutions because these work so well for me. Note that I am using the mostly Stock 3.2 Rom that ezterry put together for us. And the stock kernel. I've no idea whether or not these will work with other configurations.
I may look around again since it's been a while, maybe something new has been released...

Probably cause the path to ex SD card is different on the 14.2.
I think it's because in honeycomb they call the internal storage /mnt/sdcard /mnt/external_SD is the actual sd card, and I have yet to find a way to put that to use for app data.

I would also like to know how to set this up. link2sd requires 2 partitions on the SD card. is this true for the a500 or can we say one partition is the internal memory and the other partition is the sd card?

Ive been using GL TO SD app for a few days now and can confirm that it really works. the apps that requires lots of memory space would be games, so I'm pretty happy to be able to just put the game files on the ext sd. but i would love to know how you set up link2sd to make it work for other apps or maybe you can point us to the right direction. Thanks in advance for your help

[GUIDE] Resolve Low Internal Space Issues

Well if you’re here you’ve probably gone and bought the ZTE Blade or one of its variants (Orange San Francisco, Dell XCD35 or the Idea Blade). You’ve probably been using it for a while now and I’m pretty sure you’ve come to that annoying moment when you download an awesome new app and get that pesky notification saying “Not enough memory”. Here’s a way to fix that problem albeit temporarily for rooted and non-rooted users alike
# Non Rooted Users:
First off, if you’re Android version says 2.1, it means you’ve got a Gen1 device. It’d be best top update it to a Gen2 device yourself using a TPT, or ask your manufacturer to do it for you. Now assuming you have a Gen2 device, i.e. your Android version says 2.2, this is how you go about getting space to install more apps.
-Once you install an app, open the settings menu
-Go to the “Applications” menu and select the “Downloaded” tab
-Select any application
-Keep in mind that this works only for applications that have been granted movability by their developer
-Android 2.2 onwards has an inbuilt option that allows users to move part of the app to the SD card. You should see an option saying “Move to SD Card”. If you do not see it, or it is grayed out, that means the developer has restricted the option. This is common for some apps like widgets
-Repeat for any number of apps you want.
Note : This provides only a little breathing space and allows you to squeeze in a few more apps. The root methods are far more effective. There's also an app called APP2SD to help with this on Google Play
.
# Rooted Users
The following methods are only for rooted users. To check if your phone is rooted, download the Root Checker app from Google Play. Rooted users have two methods of increasing storage space: Apps2SD+ and A2SD.
Apps2SD+ is similar to the inbuilt option that comes with Android 2.2. However, this enables rooted users to move more of the app to the SD card and also move ANY application to the SD card irrespective of the developer’s restrictions. There are two things that must be kept in mind while using this method. One, widgets do not work if moved to the SD card, so refrain from doing that. Two, the SD card is read after booting, so moving too many apps to the SD card (75+) will cause the phone to hang a lot at boot and reboot several times. This is done using an app. I recommend "DroidSail SuperApps2SD''
A2SD is the process of partitioning the SD card and using it as phone storage. This is by far the best method to increase storage space as a 1GB partition allows you to install 500+ apps, the ease of use and performance aside. This is available for most ROMs if they support an sd-ext script. Partitioning the SD card can be done using Minitool Partition Wizard or by ClockworkMod Recovery. The recommended partition size is 1GB as this is more than enough. The swap should be kept at 0MB or if you use the phone for gaming, at 32MB. Once the memory card is partitioned, the apps along with all their data can be moved to this partition. This can be done by two ways. DarkTremor A2SD scripts for most ROMs, or S2E for CyanogenMod. This is very easy to use and having done it myself, I have 450 apps and the phone’s performance isn’t the slightest bit affected.
Partitioned and still no space? See this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933144
Good Luck installing those 500 apps and showing off with them

hi there. hoping someone may still read this.
Any options for resolving low storage space issues on a Blade V without rooting?
I've moved literally app possible to the SD card (which isn't many).... Are photos not stored on the SD card by default? I've had to start uninstalling updates for system apps that I don't use
with "low storage" my Gmail doesn't sync...which obviously is f*cking annoying
I've had andoids before and rooted them, installed custom ROMs. Just I'd avoid it with this one due to my fear of screwing it up. Is rooting my only realistic option?

Rooting and then using the solutions in the op seems to be the only plausible option.
However, you can try a cache cleaning app. Should give you 10-15MB depending on how many apps have cached data

Tutorial Link2SD/make more Space in Internal Memory with Link2SD for Moto G 3rd 2015

Prerequisites:
1. obviously moto g 2015 3rd gen
2. bootloader unlocked followed by root (search for this in other threads)
3. make backup of your ext sd card as everything will be deleted (mine is 64 gb strontium memory card)
4.card reader (mine is Transcend USB 3.0 Super Speed Multi-Card Reader for SD/SDHC/SDXC/MS/CF Cards)
Steps:
1. switch off your device and take ext sd card out
2. download and install MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition 9.1 on your pc http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
3. Insert your SD card to a card reader and open it on your computer
4. Back up all your files to the computer because partitioning will wipe your data
5. Open Mini Tool in your computer. Locate your SD card (be careful in choosing and make sure not to choose the drive of your computer)
6. Right click and choose Delete
7. Right click on it again and choose Create New. Create “FAT32″ partition (This is where all your media files will go. Be sure to make it bigger than the 2nd part)
8. Select “Create as: PRIMARY”
9. Next, ext4 partition. This is where your apps will go. I suggest a value of 512Mb or 1Gb would be big enough but if you insist you can go as high as 2Gb.
10. Select “Create As: PRIMARY” (make sure that it is both set to primary because it will not work if it is not set to primary)
11. Click the “Apply” button on the top left corner and wait for it to finish the process. Done.
12. Put back your SD card to your phone and switch it on.
13. Download and install Link2sd from Google Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD&hl=en
14. Open Link2sd. You will be prompted to choose between ext2, ext3, ext4 and FAT32. Select ext4.
15. It will say mount script created. Reboot your phone now.
16. Open link2sd and if the message doesn’t show up, you succeded.
17. check storage info
18. Go to Link2sd>Settings>check the autolink (to automatically move apps upon installation)
i have link2sd plus version as it allows me to link obb etc
attached some pics for idea
lastly do not held me responsible for any problem as i tried my best to explain everything in detail
if any query feel free to ask and to encourage me for more work hit THANKS :highfive:

i do not face any problem u mentioned earlier as i have done same exact guide on my moto g 2015 too step by step.try steps mentioned below
1.go to link2sd and open it,if no message pop up than u have created mount scripts right.if any message pop up than recreate mount scripts by taping bar on left side of app than recreate mount script than ext4 than reboot, hopefully u should not see any message after u open app
2.now go to three dots (on extreme right of app) and check storage info (u will be able to see all partitions including the one which u have created of external sd card and check whether it have free space or not)
3.go to settings and check auto link followed tap install location and check automatic
hope above steps solves your problem :fingers-crossed:
Yeah, that's all good. The slight problem is that for some reason the APK part sometimes goes back to the internal memory, at least according to the interface. Check your apps, maybe you'll see the same thing.

Space is all I want!

Hi all, so to start with, as the title says im constantly running out of space on the FN model 2015, so ive dived into the forum looking for help. First thing i tried was the sd card hack to combine my 64gb sdcard with the 8gb internal. Harra! it worked, but then i still run outa space as it dosen't seam to to use the sdcard space as i had hoped. It's like it just copys some of the data from the apps to the SD card like normal but without having to go into the each app and selecting external sdcard. Kinda thought no probs I'll download a custom rom with no samsung apps and with a min gapp giving me as much storage space i could get. I can't see one, starting to think there isnt one. So my question is, is it hard for me to take my backup of my stock rom and strip what I can out bearing in mind I'm a bit of a noob and have to follow instructions from the clever ROM makers? not to bothered about increasing the speed and looks just the space. Would be able nice to update them without having to delete a few and re-install the ones I deleted. Any advice on what coarse to take would be great. Maybe theres a ROM I've mist I could use and give thanks for?
Cheers

Hi,
Instead of using Adoptable Storage, make 2 partitions on your SD, 1 FAT32 for photos, music, documents and another EXT4 for apps data. Use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.co.pricealert.apps2sd , i tested it.
You can make 2 partitions using PC or with TWRP Recovery.

Thanks for your reply! I went down the apps2SD route in the end. Kinda mest it up a bit but have free'd up nearly 1gb of space so thanks, that's more than enough! %) I ended up partitioning the SDcard and linking all the apps I'm not interested in, excel,Skype,Samsung etc. Anyway what i didn't realise was that i had mest the other part of the partition up. Ended up re-formatting the SDcard in recovery back to normal and those apps I didn't want 90% of the data of those have now been wiped %)
