[Q] The definative thread for reverting wp7 back to wm6.5 - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hi there, I know Im going to get shot down in flames (and probably rightly so), but I cant find a definative step by step guide on this site for returning to Windows Mobile 6.5 from Windows Phone 7. I have tried a load of search queries and for some reason I cant get anything that takes it through step by step and offers any links for any downloads I might need. I must be just typing the wrong things or looking in the wrong place.
When I installed Windows 7 I found great step by step guides that worked well but I can find what I need this time.
I know I am obviously being an idiot but could someone please reply with a link to a step by step idiot proof guide to getting my phone back to WM6.5 from WP7. Thanks chaps.
Im selling the phone which is why I want to revert it back so its as an HD2 would normally be.

Power off phone. Power on with holding power and vol down until you get to the tri color screen. Flash your WM 6.5 ROM of choice. Any custom or compatible stock will do the job.

What he said, get to the "rainbow screen" bu holding down volume and power and attempt to flash your desired ROM from your PC.

Ok, but where do I find a stock ROM?

Search the forum you will find the link...

Turn the phone off. Turn the phone on and keep holding volume down and power button untill you get to rainbow screen. Now run the rom software on your pc and follow the prompts. Download the factory roms from htc.com (they want your serial number-its under the battery so is the IMEI, t-mobile (they want your IMEI number), if outside USA get rom from provider site or search the forums here for custom roms.

To clear up something. It is NOT nessesary to flash a stock ROM. Amy custom ROM will also do the job. Tried personally by me a month ago when my battery died a painfull death

Is it the same way if you want to go back to Android? Or do you need to flash winmo 6.5 first?

Hard Reset doesn't work even.
While reverting to WM 6.5 the ROM update happened but after 100% complete the device shut down and now its not starting, even tryied to hard reset.
What should i do now?

I flashed my phone to W7, did not like it and went back to WM6.5. I was running Android from SD card prior to W7, now back to WM6.5 and cannot run Android from SD card anymore, I believe it is a HSPL problem, I like the ROM I am running now, just want to be able to use Android from SD card, your thoughts? thanks in advance!

You have to reformat your SD card. WP7 formats your SD card with RAID format and you have to get it off your SD card. You xancdoca search to find formatting software that can remove the RAID format or buy a cheap micro SD to mini SD card adaptor. Putcyour SD card in the adaptor and then the adaptor in a digital camera and format it with the camera. Then format it with the Windows or some other format software with Fat 32. This will fix your problem.

HTC HD2 Phone Problem

Hello all i have bought a new HTC HD2 phone 3 weeks ago and my friend put a new rom on it for me.
Everything was working fine till i put some foto's and music on the storage card, and i wanted to look and listen to them put suddenly i had nothing else on the storage card, everything was deleted.
And everytime when i turn my phone on i got a popup menu saying that i have to format the storage card, and my pc does not recconize anymore the disc drive, before it worked always perfectly.
So i formatted the starage card but the problem still exists.
I am realy very sad now and this is my last helpline, so i hope somebody can help me here with my problem.
Thanks already.
And i hope someone will have an answer for me.

Have you tried to re-install the rom or install another?
Can transfer to phone via blue tooth or network considering your SD card isn't working.
try a hard reset mate might do the trick, it will just reset the phone to when the ROM was first put on the phone, restart the device before it boots push down volume up & down at the same time just follow instructions
i also got this problem with my memory card
phone issue?
i just put a android 2.33 rom on my hd2 and the phone wont work? is there something i can do? please advise.

Try bringing up MAGLDR by turn your HD2 off and then turn it back on but keep the power(end) button down and MAGLDR will come up then use hour volume up and down button to to scroll through the options. There is a recovery option select it and it will do what is equal to a hard reset of the Andriod on your phone. If this does not work try reflashing the Andriod ROM if still no Chang try another Andriod ROM. If still no dice out your Pbone into bootloader by turning it off and then teurning it back on but hold the volume down button when you tap the power button and keep holing it down until bootloader comes up once it is up plug your USB ito the computer and phone and wait until serial changes to USB in the white bar at the bottom of the screen and then flash a custom Windows Mobile ROM to your HD2. I say custom cause a official rom will wipe MAGLDR from your phone. Do not flash a official rom, especially don't flash a official ROM from your SD card as it will take wipe MAGLDR and revert your HSPL to SPL and then you will be back to complete stick and square one.

HTC HD2 6.5 to Android back to 6.5 or 7?

I got this phone on Ebay because I am poor. It was a T Mobile unlocked that was changed to Android. I can't get rid of the old user name and don't have the password for the Android market account set up on this phone. I can't do a factory reset and I need help. I would prefer to put 7 on it but I would be happy putting 6.5 back. Android would do if I could reset the user account. I do hope someone can help me. I am not very technically gifted but I can follow easy instructions. Please help me.
Judy
Because you are new at this I suggest flashing the stock T Mobile from your SD card. It is the simplest and safest thing to do.
You may need the Serial and IMEI numbers located under the phones battery.
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32
2. Go to T Mobile web site and download the rom. It will ask for you IMEI number this makes sure the rom is for your mobile.
3. Unzip/unrar the downloaded file into a folder on your PC
4. Rename the RUU_signed.nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
5. Copy the LEOIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
6. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
7. Reset the device while pressing the volume down button to enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
8. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
9. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
What if you want to flash it without using the SD card? I flashed android using NAND but I want to put WM 6.5 back.

I think doing it with the SD card is only way to get back to 6.5.
You could always boot into the boot loader by holding the up volume and power key then flash a 6.5 Rom.

Everyone has forgotten to find out what device this is, t mobile are all over the place and some ship 1024MB versions, don't flash anything until you work what you need, flashing incorrect tmobile roms could give you a really bad day and an expensive paperweight
I tried the data cable first and it won't sync with active sync because it is at this time android. It just isn't recognized as anything but a usb storage device. Then I tried the card. I put all the files on the card according to the directions and hit the volume down button and the power button and nothing happens. I then have to remove the battery to turn it back on. The screen that comes up when I first start the phone is dark forces team. There has to be a way to do this.
You have to be holding vol down before u even press the power button, then press the power button simultaneously. U should see a tri-color screen then connect your usb to pc and flash the 6.5 ROM
Make sure u start with the phone off

I had a few attempts before I got it so try again.
It worked for me with a 16GB card.
Turn off your mobile.
Hold the Volume Down and End Call (power) buttons at the same time.
When "Searching" appears on the screen, release the Volume Down button.
This guide may help. But ignore the things about custom ROM’s and HSPL for now.

ok, there are two versions of the HD2, one with 512MB one with 1024MB, some t-mobile US phones (TMOUS) have 1024MB, if you ge the wrong ROM you could potentially bugger your device
for instance, flash a ROM with a unsupported radio on your device than game over....potentially
if you have a TMOUS 1024MB HD2
flash to .51 radio an its screwed
flash to .50 radio an its ok, except 2.05.50.x radio which will screw it
and stick to TMOUS ROMS as well
if you have the regular world wide version we can flash to what ever we like
its important to find out what someone is using before recomending them to flash any WM6.5 ROM because if by chance that ROM contains an incorrect radio version for that hardware then its game over.

[q] please helpp hd2 android failure! I just want windows back!

So I tried a crack at android on my HD2 for the second time cuz the first one crashed on me, but I noticed that this version of android didn't come with any sort of data connection at all. I tried to get it back to windows but my phone is stuck on android. I've done soft resets, hard resets, i formatted my sd card, but it still automatically boots back to aqndroid. are there any sort of stock builds for winmo 6.5 for the HD2 out there?
Get into the tri color screen by powering up the phone and holding vol down. Plug phone into computer. Flash the rom.
You can download the rom at HTC or search HD2 stock roms here and you'll find a list. Make sure you pick the right rom. e.g if you have t-mo HD2, pick a rom that is compatible with t-mo.
If you don't pick the right rom and you flash that rom, expect your device might be bricked, so be careful.
N.B. It might, wait, not might, it is, a good idea to read up the guides (all the guides) thoroughly before you start customizing. Otherwise you'll just be asking these redundant questions.

Hw did u get android on ur device? and which build did u try? we need more info if u really want android on ur device...Its pretty easy and it takes less than 10 mins 4 me (or any1) to switch builds @ will..
Anyway to get WinMo back...
1. Hope u've performed a HARDSPL...
2. Just perform a Task29 ( dis wipes your phone clean leaving ur radio & HSPL intact).
3. Visit the WinMo dev section, download a custom or stock WinMo ROM..
4. Follow the Dev's instructions (basically connect usb, enter bootloader, click, click etc).
5. Flash away.
6. Soft reset and u r done!!.

You need to enter bootloader. Shutdown phone and power on while holding volume down. It will be the tri color screen. Attach USB then run 6.5 rom update

Another option would be to flash the ROM via SD card method.
This way, everything will be set back to factory status.

indeed, you should always use SD method when going back to stock, it will correct most issues and will bring your phone back to how it was when you got it, remember to install HSPL again if you intend to tinker with it some more, SD flash will remove Magldr and HSPL and will also change the radio, spl and ROM
search the forums for how to SD flash, theres plenty of them, infact most of them would have came up in the "suggestions of previously started threads" box when you make this thread!
flashing via bootloader is more reliable, sometimes flashing via sd image is not recognised.

lol, says you
ive had issues previously releasing the keys at a certain time to get the "image" to be recognised, but it does work.
Call me old fashioned, but ive been flashing via bootloarder for many years, sometimes old habits are hard to beat lol
Anyway, both work, take your choice

Getting back from froyo to wm 6.5, pls help!!

Hello all, i need some help. I bought used HTC HD2, phone was old for about 2 weeks in perfect condition but he had 2.2 froyo installed on micro sd. Phone is not working fine and i dont like android to much so i want to have wm 6.5 as stock has too. I ha t mobile for operator but im almost positive that phone is bought in EU Pls help me to get off anroid and get the phone back to stock so i can have 6.5 wm os. I tryed everything im just not good enough with terms such as radio,SPL ect. so im noob at this. Pls help me somehow.Sorry for my bad english. Thank you
Hi there, I don't know fully how to do this myself (as I personally love android OS ) but I've found a couple of links that should help you out.
http://androidforums.com/htc-leo-hd...oid-2-2-reinstall-windows-mobile-6-5-3-a.html
http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/08/15/how-to-restore-stock-rom-on-htc-hd2-video/
The ROM is basically the 'operating system' the phone uses, a radio controls how its hardware connects to things and as for SPL I don't know either
If you didn't install android on it yourself you might need to install a couple of things on your PC - the links will tell you what you need. Good luck!

Nah because you said your friend installed Froyo on the SD, I assumed it was a dual boot with WinMo. What's the OS on the NAND? WinMo, WP7 or Android? And as icke pointed out, you'll need a small SD. If you're lucky, your friend may have the original 2GB SD which came with the phone, so you could try again using that one instead.
If the smaller SD doesn't work, are you sure that you're doing everything correctly? You do have leoimg.nbh on the root of your SD card, right?
