My phone was running low on juice and no charger in sight, so i did quick swap with galaxy tab, which had full battery.
I come back home, swap SIM back to the SGS, plug in charger, boot - everything forecloses. Cant even get to LauncherPRO (android.process.acore stopped unexpectedly, etc...). Contacts dont show up either.
Wiped cache via recovery - didnt help.
Any ideas ? Dont really want to "factory default" my phone, loads of stuff on there...
Prior to problems didn't install anything new since last power-off.

This is odd... Have you tried fixing permissions in CWM recovery?

So for the last 5 days I had some very weird problems with my phone. About 2 weeks ago I started with my first Cronos Rom and it worked great. I flashed 1.5 and 1.5.1 without problems and I used it without an ext partition all the time. But then the problems started. When I wiped my whole phone and tried to reinstall 1.5.1 JIT, the phone didnt boot anymore (stuck on the "Android" bootscreen). I wiped again and again, tried 1.5.1 without JIT, 1.5 etc, but I couldt get the phone to work. Nothing worked, so I created an ext partition and tried again. It worked. My phone started and I was able to use it for about a day without problems though I didnt want apps2sd. But then some other weird things happened. 3 Days ago I bought a bigger SD Card, partitioned it, wiped the whole phone and flashed 1.5.1 JIT. The phone started, but after I installed a few apps, I got an error message (installing xxx failed). I found out that theres an "repair ext" function, and it worked, but after I installed some more apps, the problem was back. The second problem was, that after rebooting the phone, more and more apps wouldnt start anymore (FC). The last problem that occured was an FC of the market app. After that, I wiped everything again, tried to flash 1.5.1 JIT, but it happened exactly the same like on the first time. Problems installing apps, FCs, stuck on boot etc.
I am totally down at the moment because I killed my whole weekend trying to get my phone working again. Could anyone please help my with this? I just dont understand what I did wrong. Shouldnt a complete wipe fix almost every problem? And I dont understand why I suddenly cant use my phone without an ext partition. Any Cronos version I try freezes on bootscreen without an ext patition. Is there any way to get my hero working again? Please please help me.
(PS: I also posted this on the Cronos Board.)
I would take out the sd card, wipe system and dalvik cache, and install some custom rom.
well, to make sure it is NOT your phone, did you try another ROM? Eliminate possible problems?
At least try something that is known and stable, like a stock rom, the Taiwain-rooted-repacks (not a rom based on it, but just the taiwan rom rooted) or good ol' MoDaCo 3.2 (based on 1.5 stock).
Til now I just tried the last 2 or 3 Cronos Roms, and as I said, they didnt work, but when I get home from work I'll try the Modaco Rom I used before.
I dont understand what this has to do with the Rom I use. I always wiped the whole phone, dalvik, etc. so shouldnt it just work like the first time I flashed it? No matter what Rom I use?
Another weird thing (could have something to do with this): After I wiped everything and flashed Cronos 1.5.1 JIT, the market still knew what apps I had installed last time. It showed my bought apps AND the apps I was able to install before the latest crash. So does this mean the phone wasnt wiped completely?
The market tracks your purchases and (free) downloads through your google account. So that's normal that the download-list is full.
But it might very well be that you didn't wipe correctly, although I'm curious how you manage to accomplish that. What is your current recovery?
The whole point about trying another ROM is elimination. It doesn't need to make sense, but you need to check things of the list.
There is something weird going on, so trying to solve it logically will only get you so far . Keep trying to narrow down the list of causes. Might well be a bug with Cronos 1.5, or the overclock not working these days because your phone is just a bit hotter than before, who knows.. Like I said: eliminate causes!
I'm using the newest AmonRa recovery to wipe the phone.
Theres one thing I forgot: Yesterday I flashed 1.5.1 without JIT, and then 1.5.1 JIT right after it (just rebooted a few times between). The phone worked great until my SD card crashed. In the taskbar it always showed me "checking for errors"(something like that, my phone's in german ), but in my PC and in the recovery the card worked like always, so I had to wipe the card and start again from the beginning.
Try another ROM , and if that doesn't work, try without SD card.

Maybe sdcard faulty? What are the logs you get when booting up the phone?
Soooo, I wiped everything again and flashed Modaco 2.8 without an ext partition. It booted correctly, so I wiped the dalvik cache and flashed Cronos 1.5.1 JIT. It also booted (wow, first time it booted without ext since all the problems started to occur) but I instantly got FC's (phone app for example). Now I wiped completely again and flashed 1.5.1 JIT. I hope it boots, as I still dont have an ext partition. As soon as I know something new, I'm gonna tell you.
So now it seems like its working again. I was able to install all the apps I need without a single error and now I'm restoring my settings and contacts. Suddenly it even works without ext again.
I guess there was something very big f*ked up that I couldnt repair by simple wiping the phone. Very weird that just flashing Modaco got it running again. Now I have back my working phone with ultrafast Cronos Rom and without App2SD, perfect. At least till now I hope it keeps working.
Thanks for your help guys, I think I would have smashed the phone to the wall sooner or later. I never thought about flashing Modaco so I'm happy there are people like you.
Thanks again, and thanks to Feeyo for his unbelievable Rom.
PS: Can I uninstall, Facebook and Footprints without destroying everything again?
Yes, just delete both apps using ADB or use a root explorer, search both apps in System/app and delete them.
Or you could use the MoDaCo online kitchen for removing those apps.
Just done the lag fix for my Galaxy S and it all seemed to go through fine. Tried running Quandrant benchmark to test it but it crashed. I turned the phone off and on, got the Galaxy S i9000 screen then is just goes blank, literally nothing, not even the menu or back lights. Had to then take the battery out to reboot but got the same blank screen.
I can boot into recovery but rebooting from that doesn't work either, does anyone know how to fix this? don't want to try anything for fear of making it worse

Try getting into the Recovery Mode with the 3 button combo
instruction on wiki http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/GT-I9000
What lag fix are you using and what firmware are you on?
wont boot..
Hi, strangely but after the 2.2 upgrade on my SGS (it was JF5 and I made the trick with the registry to JPC and upgrade via KIES) it happened to me as well.. just a beautiful "S" blinking on the screen and nothing happens. On the time of upgrade in the instructions it was written that with the 3combo trick to make factory reset.. then everything worked just fine until yesterday...
Without installing any new apps, just browsing and trying to make my AllShare working.. I decided to gave up and without reason I have decided to restart my phone just to free RAM and etc.. And by no reason at all I got the same ****ty "S" screen and no boot.. tried first to wipe the cache.. didn't help.. and just after again factory reset it worked out and the phone is okay...
So probably for you the solution is really only factory reset, however this is very strange behavior
When I first applied the lagfix from the market in apk type it required an auto reboot to see if things wokred ok (as prompted on the screen).
Anyway, my phone stuck to a black screen and I was in a very inconvenient situation not to be able to use a PC (yeah, now I know I shouldn't mess with stuff like that while I'm on-the-go).
Long story short, after a couple of manual reboots (by taking out the battery for some seconds) it came back to life and no problems ever since. So before flashing (which can be rather incovenient if you have no backups etc) try the above mentioned method.
Original JF3 firmware (yeah need to change that).
Hi There thismorning I flashed my i5800 that I purchased from Carphone Warehouse with the I5800XWJPF 2.2 firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063940 using ODIN.
The first time I tried it all seemed to be successful, and I then proceeded to root it with SuperOneClick and began restoring my phone using titanium. Then halfway through it crashed, and with no input from me my phone rebooted. It then got stuck on the I5800 boot screen. I finally managed to get it to work be re-flashing the JPF firmware. I Then factory reset the phone (forgot to last time). Now I have finally managed to restore to my phone to how it was.. ish.
When I reboot the phone it take forever to run the Media Scanner and no widgets other that the Google search load up. Also icons are missing. Aswell as thos issues the phone runs slower than it did, and crashes often. I have fired up angry birds and it was just a juttering mess. Based on all this I decided to revert back to 2.1.. and oh oh.. can't find my firmware.
My initial firmwares were:
PDA: I5800XXJG7
Phone: I5800XXJG3
CSC:I5800XXJG5
It was rooted using z4 root and had live wallpapers enabled.
Help!
What can i do to fix this?

Okay, it seems to have now settled down after several reboots, but it seems to loose around 30% of the home screen icons upon reboot. Is this normal? And does it happen on the JPM firmware that was suggested above?

No it is not normal. Do a factory reset, flash any 2.1 rom from www.samfirmware.com and then JPM.
Peace...

I've got XWJPF and no problems. It runs very smooth. Something else is wrong.
Try flashing it to the earliest stock version of 2.1 that works, do a factory reset, then using Samsung kies, update it to the latest version available on there. Then try and reflash your choice of 2.2 rom. I had similar trouble with mine when I first started. I would recommend flashing CWM recovery as well, the samsung recovery is crap. XXJPQ seems to be available now and is getting some good reviews, fast and stable like JPF, but more up to date. Also try using SuperOneClick to root, has the best results to my knowledge. Some roms take a while to load all the app icons on boot, depending on the amount of apps you have it can sometimes take a little bit. I've found letting the phone go idle for a minute can get rid of the loadup lag. The ram gets topped out easily on the G3 if you have lots of apps that load at startup, which will severely slow the phone down.
Hope this helps!
More Problems
Okay, Now after a few restarts and crossing my fingers the icon thing has started to work, aswell as everything else clearing up. But now the app sizes are very small according to application manager, (angry birds - 2.2mb) and many third party apps reading 0bytes. Another thing is that Bluetooth refuses to work. It vibrates once when enabled, then another 3 times in quick succession and then the force close dialog appears. After clicking force close the box disappears and the phone responds again. I then manage to pai with a device but when I went to send a file, the dialog box and the vibrates appeared again and it refused to send. Any ways to fix?

Factory reset->reflash->factory reset.
Keep back ups!
All that you say is abnormal.
About your disappearing icons:
Are you using the (stock) TouchWiz launcher? If so, that has a (known) bug on 2.2 that all links to apps which were moved to sd card disappear if you unmount the card (which includes reboot). Are the apps that disappear on the sd card?
Reflash
Okay, to start with I will try the factory reset, flash, factory reset that was suggested. And by the way the disappearing apps were not on the sd card... Strange.. If this failds i will do as suggested by flashing to the earliest version, the update via Kies. I was trying to avoid this because of internet allowance..
Thanks for all the replies by the way

Rooting and restoring.. will post results in a few minutes time!
I'm halfway through restoring my settings via Titanium, and I keep getting the single vibrate, roughly 10 second delay, than a very fast triple vibrate, exactly the same as it did just before bluetooth crashed... Is something else wrong?
Okay, I've restored rooted and reflashed it and... ... still the same..
Titanium
Is it possible that this is caused by me restoring my phone settings from 2.1 to 2.2 through titanium?
If you need the original firmware to return it to stock pm me and ill upload it somewhere for you
I have just sent a bluetooth file! After another flash and wipe.. but havent restored or rooted. Don't think I will bother really. I now have a working phone! Thank you!
You must restore only apps. Restoring system configurations and apps data will cause problems. If I'm wrong correct me.

That'll be what I was doing wrong with the Bluetooth thing
Ok, this is a fun one...
I was up late last night (too late to be doing anything on my nook apparently) and I opened CWM to see if there was an update for it. I noticed it could check for updates to my ROM, so I found the new nightly (160) with it. I decided to install it to see if that would be an easier way then manually downloading and flashing. It cam up with options to wipe cache and such, and I did not realize until too late that the Data and Cache options were one in the same.
So I set it to do a backup, then wipe the data/cache, and dalvik cache. When it booted back up I had lost everything...obviously. So I rebooted into recovery, and restored my backup. Once finished, the screen went blank and did not come back on.
Now I get nothing, no response from the screen. Today I DID plug it into the usb on my work computer and it tried to install drivers so I think it may be on...
Anyone have any ideas?
Anybody?
I'm hopin it is on and that the battery will die...but I am not sure that will solve anything.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Go here and start again: http://mrm3.net/nook-color-how-to-install-cyanogenmod-nightlies/
Make sure you use the latest version of CWR (3.2.0.1)
The problem is actually that I get no response from my screen. It does not turn on, flash like it's going to work, DO anything. That's what has me so worried

It is fully charged and you get nothing with a bootable SD card installed? Have you tried this while still plugged in to the a/c current?
I do not know about being fully charged...but I HAVE tried it plugged into USB on my computer. Still nothing.
Ok, I got it on! Not sure if this was it but now it complained about low battery. I had previously plugged it in for a whole night and got nothin. I think I will use your previous link to just wipe it all and start from scratch.

Edit: I am back up and running, thanks for your advice!
Hey guys. I have a very interesting situation happening with a VZW Galaxy Tab 7.1 that I bought from someone (I own a business buying/selling/trading cellphones and tablets)..
As soon as you boot it up, every app starts to force close!
If you sit there long enough and accept them all, you can actually use it a little bit. Apps keep FCing as you play with it, though.
The only noticeable thing is that the wallpaper always stays the same. It was 2.3.4 (I believe) when I got it, but I've tried flashing stock ROMs and the Galaxy Cubed 3 ROM through Heimdall, but that wallpaper ALWAYS stays there!
I just flashed the Galaxy Cubed 3 ROM on there 20mins ago, and everything switched over (the look, the battery icon, notification bar, window animations) EXCEPT that wallpaper (which ironically is of B.I.G.) and the FC issues.
I read somewhere about JTAG or something, but it boots fine, just having software issues.
PLEASE, if anyone knows anything about this issue, I need to sell this thing so I can make some money =) Thanks in advance for the help!
im in the exact same boat with a customers tablet. ive tried everything. takes forever to boot and factory reset does nothing. 4 installed apps never uninstall either.
Do you have custom recovery installed? After flashing with Heimdall, enter custom recovery and wipe data and cache. Reboot. No more issues.
I can't find a way to get custom recovery to flash. I've tried every walkthrough. There's no explanation as to why factory reset/wipe doesn't work
