[Q] VPN Help Needed - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've been trying to setup a VPN for my shinny MT4G to connect with my box at home thats running Windows 7 x64, and I've been having nothing but issues. Comcast is my ISP i have a linksys WRT54G-TM router. I have PPTP port 1723 tcp forwarded to my box and VPN passthrough is enabled as well. My windows firewall is setup for the same port. I created the incoming connection and have the right user accounts selected. I've setup my DNS to allow VPN connections. But still i am never able to connect i always get a generic unable to connect or "Server hung up. It is possible that you are behind a firewall that prevents you from connecting to the server."
Funny thing is i can start a Remote Desktop connection just fine and connect right away.
Any ideas I'm drawing a blank and i really need to get this going. Thanks

Ive already tried that and still noting my port forwarding is the same ad depicted minus some options.

Are you sure you're following my directions in Step 2 of my writeup? It's VERY important to assign a range of IP's in the Windows config.

yep i set it up the way you mentioned defined the ip range form 192.168.0.200-192.168.0.207. Thx for the help BTW, I'm at a loss

Well is that within your internal IP range's subnet? I was just using that as an example. What is the internal IP your computer gets from the router?

the router is set to be 192.168.0.1 and my box is assigned 192.168.0.107 through the routers static IP assigning subnet maks is the usual 255.255.255.0

crap that should work then.

Yeah Its a bugger alright. i'm debating on buyin a new router to see if its that because i can snoop some ports i know are open and it'll get timed out and other are fine.

Yeah I'd try a new router. Put that router behind the new one to keep using your t-mobile @home service, that's how I do it.

KK so i tried a new router another linksys and i get the same issue this is beyond pissing me off Again any help is appreciated.

You should try connecting to your VPN over your internal WiFi. It would rule out if the port/protocol forwarding is the issue.

Cant even connect over wi-fi I'm running a fresh install if windows 7 on my box and as far as i cant tell everything is setup correctly.

If you're on your internal WiFi can't still can't connect, it has to be your Win7 setup. I woud double check everything and also make sure you have no other firewalls that are blocking incoming requests on these ports.

T9193 Miri Rom v.16 ATT- Web on port 8077?

I'm using a T9193 with Miri Rom v.16 on ATT. I've beeen trying to access an internal web server through dyndns on port 8077 in the form h++p://name.dyndns.org:8077
I know this works with any other web browser in the world, but not the 3 browsers in the HD2! Not Opera, Skyfire or IE. The packets never get to the server. All 3 browsers work fine to go the same server if I use wifi and access it internally, but not via 3G-ATT-dyndns-back to my ISP and into my router. The browsers all access other sites just fine.
In fact, at one time the HD2 did work to access the server this way (but I've changed too much to track back to the working config). I'm trying to figure out where to go from here. Is this likely to be a ROM issue, a registry problem or ATT screwing me? Any suggestions?
Specifically, is there any reason to believe that ATT or the HD2 prevents accessing nonstandard ports like my 8077?
Thanks!
if you have a router you need to configure port forwarding to the destination machine.
also, if the dyndns client is running on a machine with a local ip address (ie one behind a router) then double check that it is correctly reading your external ip address and not the internal 192.xxx address.
if they are blocking that port and you are behind a router, then just use a different port, example 33333, and configure your routers port forwarding for 33333 --> 8077, then att will never see any traffic on 8077

I suppose I'll try to swap ports, but I don't really have any reason to believe they're blocking this port, since it worked before.

It turned out to be weird hang affecting only that one site/port. Turning off 3G, and data, then restarting fixed it.

Wi-Fi router

All
I have my htc setup to both internet sharing and Wi-Fi connection on my work PC with a lan connection. On both of these connections e.g. wired USB and wireless i can get the internet for about 3 minutes then it stops working. Is there some sort of block? I did see a while back that the WiFi app has no restrictions...
Any help would be superb.
Cheers
Baker0
Thats a little odd, there is certainly no block and I have had the wifi router running for a good 30-40 minutes without failing.
what part is failing, is the phone no longer running the wifi router, or is the pc no longer getting internet on that network connection?
If you need help on how to find this info just reply and I can walk you through some more diagnostic steps.
The phone is still running just the internet stops on the machine. I have to stop the wi fi on the phone then start again then connect. I think it might be t-mobile but the internet on the phone is fine
are you in the uk?
if you connect your laptop to the phone via the wifi router you should be able to right click the network logo, click on status and view the wifi network info, it should tell you in there if it has internet access on that network connection.
If you try this again and when it fails check this status window and see if windows is seeing an internet connection or not?
when the net fails again try and visit http://72.14.203.100/ (this should be the google homepage) if you see google then there is a dns problem if it still says network timeout or failed to connect or something like that then we will have to dig further.
LOL thanks for your help. I am in the UK. ive been working in IT for the last 12 years and I know and have done the test, its not the machine it has something to do with the phone or t-mobile network
Sorry to hijack your thread a little, but I'm on the T-Mobile Network in the UK too (except I'm using a Touch Pro with a custom ROM), and although I can make connections from the PC to websites using the IP address, the DNS isn't working so I can't resolve domain names.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Steve.

It must be the phone then since I do use wifi router, I am on t-mobile and in the UK and I do not experience this :S
I seem to be saying this more and more but maybe you should try a hard reset and see if that fixes the problem?

This is likely an issue with the way your machine has been setup to connect to the wifi network. Try visting the properties of the network and vieing the dns settings for the tcp/ipv4, It should be set as Obtain DNS server addresses automatically. If it is set like this then try setting it too 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 these are googles, dns servers if this works for you then you could stick with this or do some further digging as to why you are not getting the dns server addresses automatically like you should be.

Setting the DNS entries to Google's makes it work, but attempting to get the DNS Server's automatically leaves me with no ability to resolve domain names. How strange?
Thanks for the workaround, not sure where to start looking to fix it properly.

Hey guys,
I am new to this wifi router thing and got the following questions:
1. To be able to use it, you must have data connection with your provider. Am I right?
2. By any chance, can I use this system by using a sim taken out of a prepaid mobile broadband dongle and inserted into my device (htc touch HD)?
3. Once I get connected can I surf the internet/check emails etc from within the device itself without the need to use a laptop?
Please don't mind these basic stupid questions.
cheers

Wifi Works At Outside Wifi Hotspots but stopped working at home wifi... Please Help..

My HTC Desire HD Wifi has ALWAYS been working at my home wifi network.
Over the last few weeks, it has stopped working for no apparent reason. My pc as well as 3 other laptops work perfectly fine...
When I try to connect to my own wifi network at home now, it REFUSES to obtain an ip address and simply keeps disconnecting...
It however works fine elsewhere....
Anyway I can fix this problem or a simple way to manually connect to my home wifi network?
Thanks in advance...
hi
Have you checked that your security settings are the same on the router? also try and reset the router i.e. unplug for 2 mins blah blah. I know the lappys are working fine but this is what I would do.
I use to have issues like this with my HTC Hero, how i resolved it was by adding the phones MAC Code to the router software. Found in ( Security>Mac Filter ) depends on router! but is something like that. The down side is thou, you will have to add the mac codes from all your other devices to the router also, so everything connects to your ISP. It has the benifts of a more secure network.
Hmm, thanks for the possible answers so far.
It is strange. I just went to a friends house who also has wifi, I connected as normal.
It immediately connected with full reception. It seems that EVERYTHING connects and works as normal accept for my own home wifi...
I have tried resetting it, turning it on/off, it still does not want to obtain an ip address...

It's Siemens Gigaset SE568
I would advise you against using MAC security on your router. Instead try to "forget" your home network (Settings->Wireless&networks->WiFi settings, then hold your home network and "Forget network") and then re-add your network. If this doesn't work try assigning static IP address (Settings->Wireless&networks->WiFi settings then tap "Menu" and "Advanced" but this will make connecting to hotspots more difficult (you'll have to uncheck the static address every time you need to connect).

It's not important/urgent so I'm not too bothered. I just think it's strange why it refuses to obtain an ip address...

Did you try to asign a static IP address (don't forget to test if you are connected to the internet after/if this seems to work)? Then you'll know if the problem is with the DHCP service or something else.
Ok. Sorry, I miss understood your problem! First is the router assigning ip address via dhcp as you don't state?. So the static ip method, You can try, Im here to help not say what to do and not to try..But as your pc and laptops are working I don't think the problem with dhcp.
A very quick test is to set your router to a open network and try to connect. Does this now work when you try to connect? We will work backwards to solve your problem. Also are you using a wizard cd software from the router? Or connecting to the router software via the internet explorer?
e.g 192.168.0.1 ? etc.

Just tried the static ip address, still refuses to obtain an ip address...
As for the router, it's automatic, we simply turn on wi-fi on the computer/laptop, click the wifi network, put password and simply connect as normal....
Strangely my HTC Desire HD refuses to obtain an ip.
A few days ago I went to my brothers friends house for the first time, turned on wi-fi on my phone, went onto his network, put the password and it immediately connected without any problem...
I'm 100% sure the problem lies with my old piece of **** router, well it's not mine but my fathers and I cannot exactly tell him to throw it out the window it's complete ****...
What can I do simply to make the router work with my phone?
Is there any new device in the network? If there is turn off all wifi devices restart the ap and try to reconnect.
Try changing the ap name too.
Hope it helps!

Last resort might be to factory reset the router, then putting all the settings (e.g. WPA keys) back on.

The simplest way is to set your router to a open network. Then no key is needed by the phone. The phone SHOULD connect with no problems.
You then no its a key issue.

If it's not DHCP issue then it looks like authentication one. So wipe the router's configuration and if this doesn't work either I have another solution for you. It involves a hammer and an alibi

Splashtop Help

Does anyone have any ideas how to get this to work?
If you got to there website they have instructions on how to set it up for outside networks. It involves setting up port forwarding on your router and getting the main ip address for you internet connection.

I have already followed these directions and still get a failed connection. I can connect fine with home network just not a remote network. Also a little info windows 7 with mcafee virus scanner and firewall. I also have a linksys e1000 router. Anybody know why I cant connect?
You may have already done this, but I needed to setup the entire range of ports (6783 thru 6785) to get mine to work. One mapping per port.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
You will to add port forwarding rule on your router. Add 6783-6785 for the port. Make sure the splash top software on your pc under network setting is set to 6783. When you add the ip address you need to add your WAN ip address not your machine ip address. Mac address will need to be that machine youre trying to log into. I have splash top setup to three of my computers at home. Able to access them without no issues from outside of my network. If you are still having issues try to disable your mcafee software and firewall. I have all three on Windows 7 all with firewall enable.

Dunno about McAfee, but the firewall shouldn't be causing any issues as long as you allow splashtop connection. I set up separate port forwarding for each one. TCP Any -> ****. Did that three times and it connected.

Some you saing port forward each port as in 6873 to 6873, 6874 to 6874, and 6875 to 6875? Do you have a linksys router?
Router model / make won't make a difference to what ports need to be forward, just how you actually go about doing it.
Well I guess I will try to open them individually.

Are you guys able to connect to your pc from an outside network with the splashtop thats included in the mycloud or did you purchase it from the market?
I have port forwarding set up, added the pc and WAN ip (not local network ip), enabled "internet discovery" in experimental features on splashtop streamer on my pc and its still not working. I have no options to add mac address, just name, ip, password and port.
Splashtop is now $0.99 so i may just go ahead an buy it so i can use it on my other devices as well if the built in one doesn't support this.
Mine works well...after I set the ports to forward.
However someone did warn me about doing this and lack of security...

Yes, I am able to connect from outside of my network. I am using the one that came with the TF. I believe the one that comes with the TF has a custom resolution of 1280x800 just for the TF. Where the one in the Market Place highest resolution is 1024 x 768. I tried both and the TF version looks much better. There is a area when you have to input the mac address for that machine. My port for one of my pc is "6873-6785"

[Q] "obtainig ip address" loop, please help

hi guys,
so i bought my Lg g2 yesterday and i can't connect to my wifi network, the phone says obtaining ip address over and over again. i searched the internet and found that is a very common problem. it has something to do with my router so i installed a firmware update. the router (dlink dwl 700ap) is borrowed from our cable company and is already quite old (the newest firmware dated from 2008). since updating didn't work, tried to change every possile setting in the router menu, also didn't work. (i came across a setting saying dchp disabled(by default), tried changing it to enable but some devivces could not connect anymore). i tried some apps from google play but non of them changed anything. i also tried to use static but i could not acces the web (i think the static setting were coorect since i copied them from my "ipconfig" in windows, wath i found weird is that the ip adress of the router said 195.168.0.50 while the ip on my computer said 85.XXXXXXXX.). so i factory resetted my G2, didn't work.
i can connect with every device to my router (s3, ipod touch, lumia 720, iphone 5s) and i can connect my lg g2 to every other network.
so should i return my lg g2, call my cable network or ?
can anyone help me ?
thanks a lot, i really appreciate it
ps sorry for my bad enlish
Turning on dchp will try to auto assign ips so make sure all devices are set to auto or reserve the ip at the router level if you wish some to be static.
As for static ip settings. Make sure the ip you're trying to get the phone isn't assigned.
Default gateway (from the information you've given) 192.168.0.1

Yeo! Hmm I would say it's a problem with the router, esp since you can connect to other WiFi networks from your phone. Have you tried resetting the router itself? Drastic but I can offer no advice from the settings standpoint

yes did a reset, no change. Are you sure it is the router because i never had any problem with it.
I cannot be *sure* of anything but if your phone can connect to other devices perfectly well then the most obvious source of error is the router
You mentioned that toggling dhcp on breaks the connection for other devices - does it fix the connection for your g2?
I took a look at my router settings for static IP address and I have no idea how to set up static addresses haha.. (Not sure how your other devices connect if dhcp is off as I know next to nothing about networking)

i had that problem "obtaining ip address" when i use MAC filter, which allow only registered MAC address connect to the router. i registered my LG g2 MAC address to the router and the problem gone.
hi guys
i found the problem
it happens just when you disable auto update in "settings>general>about phone>update center>software update>check automatically"
