I appreciate that fact that we finally have some moderating going on these forums, but why are threads being closed, deleted with no reason?
Some threads, its obvious there's trollin' flaming etc.
but other's i just don't see why it is, and so i suggest to you mods that before closing the threads, you could say why it was, because if you just close it. People won't know what the thread had wrong with it, and may continue doing that...
Sorry for making a whole thread on this, but idk which mod is doing these since mmelo is gone for a while... so idk who to PM.
Sorry if this is in the Wrong section, there's no section that says "complains/suggestions/talk"

Last time I checked the moderator wasn't fluent in english, they changed mods quite a few times so who knows whos mod know.
You did the right thing though making a thread complaing about it. Maybe you'd get a good respond

I'm curious, what threads have been shut down that should not have been? We absolute don't need "coming soon" and "OMG HAVE YOU SEEN THIS?!?!" threads in the development section, and there have been quite a few of those recently.
Duplicate post.
Todays thread was closed for failure to comply with rules, failure to act upon multiple omission requests and not responding to the pm from the mod in reference to these things.

The first thread was made over a month ago.
The second, thats not the kinds of threads I'm talking about
I'm not sure why XDA moderates the way they do but I'm sure they have a good reason for it. It seems it would be easier to set the forum to purge posts after x number of pages and then just close the problematic post with a reason instead of just deleting it.
As of right now there are 252 pages of posts, I'm sure ATLEAST 225 of those pages could be deleted and no one would care. If it was set to auto purge the locked thread would slowly hit say the x'th page and then be deleted automatically. Everyone is happy in the end.

I kinda agree with this. My comment is that the moderators do not have consistency in their actions. This makes it hard on people who are trying to understand what is acceptable and what is not. E.G. If X is not acceptable than that should ALWAYS be the case, but it is usually not.
Also I do agree with the IDEA to "Sunset" threads into an old archive. This would make the site less "Weighty" and for those who want to do research, they could by accessing a dedicated search tool only for that archive.
Moderators close threads because there are too many people on the site.
Head over to another android message board and post there. If enough people do that, then the moderators here won't have to worry about deleting threads and you posters can still have as many threads as you want.

I do want to know about legitimate problems with the phone but having it all on one thread would help everyone out to know they could click on ONE thread to find all problems and of course the complainers would have somewhere to vent without pages and pages of the same complaint
Or maybe make a poll
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I think the short answer is no.
Depends, can complaining about the complainers be moved there too?
Telling everyone to search would kind of suck if all issues are moved into one big thread. The default search is just titles IIRC.
Actually, putting all of the complaints, problems, and questions regarding this phone into ONE thread would make things 1000 times harder. The key is putting these threads in the appropriate 'section'. Questions, complaints, or basically ANYTHING not related to the development of the phone belongs in the 'general' section. Its keeps the forum organized and helps people find what they're looking for a lot faster. If you were to put everything into one thread, you're basically eliminating the 'search' feature, which first searches thread titles.
A moderator could really clean shop in here. I could pay a mod to delete about half the thread created today. People who are new to android, and/or this forum clearly don't understand what XDA is about... I know I ask what may seem like dumb questions, but I also help others who are genuinely seeking help, but if I are crying over the Internet about your phone (which some on here do not even own), well I could get banned for telling you what I think of you.

There are always a select few that just love to complain and act like the few people that have their same issues equals "everyone". I've seen it everywhere and right now, it's more tiring than anything.
Refer them to my post!
LOL! On one hand it is great to have all these new people excited about Android and purchasing the devices.
On the other hand it sure would be nice if they could join a couple of forums and put all the "General" discussion on the other forums and come here to discuss development, modding, and themeing.... But, it just ain't going to happen!

Nope!
I don't even think it's bad... the quot is in a different color, pretty easy to spot and "not read"
This kind of quoting is totally redundant and a waste of space. It makes threads longer and difficult to read.
You really should quote only the most relevant parts where it clarifies your answer, marking omitted parts with "(...)"
I'd rather people quote entire posts than not at all.. There are some people who jump into a thread and respond to significantly older posts without reference.
I'm more concerned that the number of people who are inventing their own outrageous claims (without evidence) and trying to shove it down others throats aren't even being told off by mods. It is effectively degrading the quality of discussions, because trolls win either way. With some of these trolls, some threads get closed because of flamewars, and there is no way to dispute their claims without causing one (some of the trolls are wrong).
Not going to name people, but for instance, there is at least one GPS "expert" going around thread to thread stating that Google maps is faulty and that the GPS is flawless. He is causing a flamewar on EVERY thread because he hasn't actually proven that it is faulty, yet, mods aren't warning him, requiring that he provides accurate evidence as requested by those in the community, and because it's clear he hasn't actually done sufficient research, there is simply insufficient information to make the claims

We need quotes, just makes it easier to spot and understand the poster if they are replying to someone specifically (question, opinion etc) otherwise it seems that they are talking to themselves. Quotes are shown in a different color so there is no need to read it if you don't want to, pretty easy to spot.
On the subject of second posts. You should quote the person if your indeed replying to the OP's opinion, question etc otherwise it might seem that your asking for something else. Quoting, if done correctly, just makes it easier to read and follow a forum topic but each to their own I s'pose.

Your first point here does not make sense. Surely if its a second post in a thread it is obvious who and what you are replying to. The reason you are posting is to reply to something above so just following the conversation flow.
I agree with the second point. Quotes used in the right context are indeed useful.

Or even a half-collapsed view.
So show a maximum of 5 lines of the quote (and hide an images), and then have a "expand to see full quote".
Then there is still quick access to the complete context, things are clean, and the flow of conversation is maintained.

I'd just like to raise this subject again due to the ever growing community here.
I find the problem is increasing to the extent that someone will post a long and valid post only to have someone quote the whole thing and put a +1 at the end.
Can we find another way to agree with people other than taking up huge amounts of space?
Maybe start the quote with a couple of lines, then ... to show it continues.

You're right. There's a thanks button it's not really the intended use but if you agree with someone why not just thank him?
That's certainly better than the "quote all +1" approach
something other about form etiquette:
If you don't have anything useful and constructive to say: shut up
I'm getting tired of cynical replies to people who just desperately need help.
Seriously, if you're in a bad mood or find that question particularly stupid you don't have to answer.
Hating on others just ruins the mood for everyone....
Some of us (noob and non-noob) do a few things that make XDA not as enjoyable for all of us.
1 - Please do NOT make MULTIPLE threads on the same topic (5 topics on page 1 are by the same person, 4 of which are all related to the same topic). Wouldn't ONE thread with everything be nicer for the OP and ALL of XDA?
2 - Edit your posts - if you forgot to say something or you need to word it better, just edit your initial post, no need to make more clutter.
3 - Be respectful... as much as you can tolerate.
4 - Try and help if you can.
5 - Rather than go back and forth in a thread (arguing/talking), PM the person. Hint, WE do NOT care.
6 - Developer's ROM threads are for THAT purpose, developing. It is NOT to be compared to another rom, and nobody cares if you are about to flash it.
7 - Post in the correct section! This is not hard... questions go in the Q&A. Apps/Themes go there... ONLY developers should post new threads in the development section. General is a catch all for everything else, related to the Vibrant.
8 - Spell Etiquette correctly (I'm flashing Gingerbread on my Nexus, doing this while backing up.... my excuse )
Also, if you feel a thread like this IS the issue.... you may need to look in the mirror.
may want to edit title, it's spelled etiquette...
just friendly heads up before the flaming starts lol
psst...! i think you mean "etiquette".
you might wanna add "please take your disagreements outside of the thread or just agree to disagree".
i dunno about you, but i'm getting sick of seeing arguments when reading threads in the dev section. ~_~

I'm sorry?
I posted the first thread "vibrant comes with 2.2!" because i'd made a thread a day or two ago asking if Vibrants now come with 2.2
Everyone on the thread said NO.
I wanted to let people know that it does, because i just got a refurb with 2.2.
the second was a question kind-of.
I was wondering why people were hating on stock ROMS because i had great experiences with it. (not 2.1) Everyone on this forum says "STAY AWAY FROM STOCK, ITS LAGGY!!!!" I wanted to oppose that because i had no problems what-so-ever with that.
I don't see how their related just because they both have something to do with 2.2 though.
I really dont see what ya'lls problem w/xrider is, his posts may have been similar but they are still different.
This is an open forum and with so many new people coming and going it will always be like this, theres no way to control it,and in trying to do so will only create undue stress
The only way it can be some what "controled" is to make it a closed forum :-(
And by editing does it bring in new viewers not likely.
Imho i dislike cyber arguing but some times it apperently takes a lil cyber flogging to set some straight or get rid of the bashers
This is in no way a negitive post towards the OP nor anyone else

+1 Agree totally. Singling out some person just creates a feud and that is rarely productive. The real issue is for people to try and remember that when writing in the thread, sarcasm, double entendres, and other other verbal expressions rarely make sense in written form. Plus, the macho adolescent comments do not go over well either.
My best advice and rule that always works is this :
Try to make your comments so if your parents or some one you respect was reading they would understand what you are saying and the intent.
Follow that rule and you will never have problems (of course unless you are a sociopath-)

Be realistic. I realize many people here are so anal about posting in wrong forums and always go about ' out of topic. Delete thread please'. Didn't know Internet had such draconian rules. And it seem to me people just get kicks from flaming all the 'noobs' in xda talking about its 'former glory', without noobs .
Now I understand why people shy away from Android and prefer the simpler iphone. It's because they won't face criticism for being new to the area. Remember we are all once a noob. People should be more helpful instead of so hostile over here.

I didn't suggest posting anywhere as the rules say you can't use the market until you have been a member for a year. I did the correct thing by reporting it.
The reason I posted is to let the other people that help keep the forum clean know, that I had reported, hence saving the moderators from dealing with multiple reports.
Furthermore, have you stopped to consider the op might be a scammer?(Apologies op) and that is why rules exist, in order to minimise the risk of such occurrences.
If you have a complaint about me, then feel at liberty to report me. If not, then you know what to do.

I never said OP was absolutely right. My point being people here flaming for every small things. Sure go ahead and report the thread, no need to add insult to injury and go about being all sarcastic. Just let the moderators do their job.
Don't you think applying ' law and order' is a bit far fetch here? I do not believe OP has any ill intents other than having a question.

Just like why I don't understand why the thread regarding sunlight readability of s3 was closed. Sometimes I come into this forum and feel that it's quite dead, with only very few threads that are alive. Many threads on comparison of Iphone and s3 were closed. I mean why can't we post apple news here, we s3 users can discuss about how superior our s3 are to the iphone! its quite troublesome to switch to and forth from iphone section to s3 section if we wanna discuss about both phones isn't it. I
I might be wrong but I do not believe having more threads and discussions, even those that may be slightly out of topic, will cost a whole lot of bandwidth . Why not make the general section more lively other than sticking with the!'jelly bean discussion' and 'jb leaks bugs' thread alone?
Thread closed, selling of devices is only allowed in the marketplace.
Im no dev, so, for what ive seen, I should not be able to post on devs forums even if im replying to someone's question. So instead of getting bullied out of the forums, im gonna suggest to mods to ban anyone like me who's just a senior member from the dev forum to avoid all those "move your stupid question to the q&a thread recently created mumbo jumbo whatever ever and change your post with moved to wherever".
Most people here are not devs. I dont mean to disrespect any dev or anyone who share their work, but, I think this kind of changes just made things difficult to devs and end users alike having to look to two threads to find an answer or to answer. Mostly because google brings better search results about xda than the xda search option.
Maybe I get a post regarding this one about moving it to hell.
A lot of really plain sarcasm mixed with plain truth.

lol, you may hear it but definitely not from me
q&a threads are new for me too (been on xda a few years ago, lurking before registering. and a lot has changed since then.
it's just that dev threads are getting a lot of same questions asked again and again, with some people responding in the beginning and later bullying. it's normal. just reading the rom thread and going to q&a thread to post a question is not difficult. meanwhile dev thread should be for posting bugs and solutions and updates. it makes the whole thread a lot more easy to follow

Which devs forums are you talking about? As far as I know, you can post there as long as it is helpful, no matter what it is or what rank you are.
As gilbert said, it's just to keep away the n00bs who can't bother to read.
Edit: @Kameirus Exactly.

which is 89 percent of users
Dont get me wrong, I understand but still think that for this rules to work we need an effective way to search xda. Ive been ignored before when asking something which is already answered, but all this "move your post to somewhere else" and "then editing your post on said thread and moving it to another" is annoying and just add more post without being useful to anyone. If the question was answered then ignore like before.
I know my comments wont make any difference. That doesn't mean I wont be reading and posting any more, lol.
On other topic, why would you want to keep away the noobs? Weren't we all noobs at some point? Or everyone was a recognized developer and android/linux experts when first registered on xda? I still dont know jack about anything. I know how to read and write.

Well, I got another of the post mentioned before because I shared my setup on a specific rom so another user could find the problem on his install. At least I thought I was helping, btw, the post has been there for about 3 weeks before I got the "you are ot cause this is not dev related".
And im talking about this forums, I own an HD2, an O1, and SGS2, all from T-Mobile. The hd2 is the one I love flashing the most.

@FCORivers
not everyone are noobs.
people who search before posting aren't noobs. people who read before posting aren't noobs
people who ask "hoe brinj hd2 android phnoe in start bot" and similar stuff are noobs. people who don't even bother searching are noobs. people know how to read and write, but those who don't bother doing them correctly are noobs.
people who come to new roms' threads and post bugs posted in op and in first few pages are noobs. and unfortunately those end up on xda via google or youtube.
posting a question is not wrong, but expecting the development thread to be a user manual and consumer support is just wrong. this is one of the reasons q&a threads exist.
and why keep the noobs away? lets just remove the 10 post rule, let noobs fill development threads with "how instal zs ram" and "hoe flash kernil" and "phone bricked" and "my mother punished me for phone not turn on any more". what's easier??
I'm very sure that posting a question in a dev thread and moving it to q&a and leaving a note that it's been moved isn't something hard.
I'm not trying to be lame by any way.

exactly. what i said was inspired by this and another post(i forgot where from)
I still think you havent understood me.
I have been ignored when asking stupid qs before, I dont think q&a threads are users guides. If the post is about something already asked, ignore it, if it is stated in op ignore it. Its not about that. Its about polluting a thread asking people to move their posts. Do you think my post is polluting cause is not dev related? What about two post instead which arent dev related? I never access this site via pc or laptop and never ever on my phones web browser which makes moving posts a little bit more complicated than over pc. Why dont get a pm from the same mod to ask you to do that and kindly ask devs to add q&a link in op? Most devs have done that already. So if a noob still fails to follow the rules then a kind pm reminding him/her the rules. But a "deleted post" or "moved post" is still not dev related, there will be a post non the less. Mod posted about new q&a threads, I know.
I dont expect anyone to agree and probably language has something to do with me not being able to make a point here as English is not my native language. Its just that I feel like a little kid getting reprimanded cause most of the time ( im not perfect) I thoroughly searched before posting and still have missed some answers.
As I mentioned before, I had a post like that for sharing my setup. My post was there for about 3 weeks before I got reprimanded. So I see it like the mod wants his new authority to be noticed.
I wont post anymore on dev threads if I dont find my answer on the q&a thread with out detailed info and logcat, got it, but going back 3 weeks on an unattended, almost forgotten rom thread (sorry dev, not meaning anything bad about the rom, I liked it for a while) is what I was complaining for.
Yes im an old crybaby, lol.

Thanks for the read.
But I dont care if that post has 2 million thanks and states what is right, is not really what ive seen in this forums. You dont have to be my friend to be friendly, you dont have to be rude either. Ignoring works miracles, lol.
Havent got a post like that in any other device forum here on xda.
Nah, ignore this one too.
Edit: forget every little thing. Just my bad attitude mixed with a stupid misunderstanding.
