evo is on sale now at the sprint site if you dont mind waiting till probably Monday for your device. i just got 3 of them on eprp plan!
After getting locked out of rooting when EVO went to FROYO 2.2 and after 21 days of waiting for with no workaround in sight, I decided to go ahead and explore my options on how to move on and aquire another awesome Android device without coming too much out of pocket. So for those who are in a similar boat and have a "Mint" condition EVO hear is the deal I found:
Go to your Local Radio Shack and ask for the Manager
Tell them you want to swap out your EVO for the EPIC and ask about the buy back program
[*]--- Radio Shack has a "Buy Back" program and if your EVO is in "Mint" Condition you can score anywhere between $250 - $285. You mush bring in your EVO for them to evaluate it. Once they confirm that it looks good, then they will give you an offer.
That amount is in a form of a "Store Credit" which CAN be used against the purchase of the Epic.
Then put down your $50 pre-order for the EPIC and hold on to your gift card and receipt. Done...
On launch day bring your EVO, Box, and cable and about $250 + some tax. Walk out with an EPIC ready for root.
So in total you ended up paying about $300 plus tax (which was $50 over what the phone would of been sold with a new 2 year) but at least you didn't have to pay $549.99 + tax and you managed to get a phone that is about as good as the EVO is and more importantly "ROOT" access back.
Hope this helps someone.

Yeah, I know it can be sold for MORE on Ebay or Craigslist, but then what do you do during the time that you don't have a phone waiting for the Epic? And how do you get it deactivated? Waiting for the bidding, then shipping it, then waiting for the 14 day hold Ebay puts on Electronic Devices, all of this when the launch of the Epic is 12 days away?Too many variables to mess with.
I also spoke with Radio Shack to verify final pricing so:
FINAL PRICE = $300 + tax for the device after the swap exchange, NOT $449 + tax.
Now if you want to wait ti'll after the launch and then ebay the EVO off and get in on a second shipment, then go for it. I was just trying to offer up some advice here on how to get out of the EVO FROYO and not spend full price on the EPIC on launch day.
Wait...
You paid $200 for the EVO, and they'll buy it back for say $300, just for easy math. You still need to pay the full price on the Epic, which is $549. So you're essentially paying $449 for the epic when all is said & done.
Why not sell the EVO on Craigslist for $400, then buy the Epic for full price?
Evo's on Ebay sell for $400+...
Ill buy anyone's evo for 300 if its mint

I'll have to put my EVO up for sale real soon...
My Evo went for $455 on ebay.
Mine has a slight scuff in one of the corners. It's hard to notice. Everything else, including the screen, is perfect. I'll probably sell it for a little under $300.
Vibrant is available for 1cent now on Amazon and $49 for Captivate. I don't know why Sprint decided to price EPIC at $250!

When companies look at ways to price their phone they don't look on amazon. They have a team of marketers make the price.

And the Vibrant/Captivate are $199 on T-mobile/AT&T's sites. Let's not look to third party dealers and the kickbacks they receive to set pricing standards.

Why not just hawk your Evo on craigslist or eBay for double and still come out on top even after getting the Epic for $250? Evo's are going for $400 and more on the grey market.
Sorry, but i have the patience to WAIT for my Evo to sell on CL and make a healthy profit still. If you don't have $250 + tax lying around to get the Epic, then i can understand not wanting to wait for Evo to sell, at least the RS credit makes it an almost straight swap anyway dollar-wise..
Here in NYC, an Evo on CL for $400 sells in a day (once you wade through the usual b.s folks), sold 3 myself. Literally posted in the AM and by evening time sold it clean and square.
Instead of adding around $200 - $250 to money you get for selling your evo, why not just keep the evo, add a second line and buy the epic for $250. Then work on trying to get add many discounts for your account as you can.
This is the soundtrack to the rEVOlution.

I would agree with you but if you check the listings there are already hundreds of listings in my area trying to sell the phone in prep for the 3D.

Just looked on Ebay and you are correct, there are a lot of evo's for sale. Going rate is about $230 - $250 at the moment and that price will probably go down when the 3d comes out (hopes not).

I doubt it still a kick ass phone people may not like the evo 3d as much as the evo. Along with not liking the shift or the echo lol echo was a joke.
mines sold soon as the E3D is released and i have it i will have my evo over to the person buying it
Pre-ordered mine.
I don't think its that good of a deal. How much does a 3D cost off contract? $499?
You can definitely sell your Evo on Craigslist or Ebay for AT LEAST $200, and if you put that money towards the new phone, it would make an off contract 3D $299
or cheaper...

You and hundreds of others will be selling at the same time, good luck
sent from my evo, *****!
Yeah I sold my Evo last month because I knew once the Evo3d hit the shelves, that there was gonna be a mass flux of people selling on Ebay - Craigslist - Etc.. You will see Evo 4G's going for $150 before the end of the week it is released in Mint Condition with accessories. I can almost promise this. I luckily had an Epic also, so I wasn't without during my loss of my great Evo, but now I have a Pre order with Radio Shack and $450 in saving and a $50 gift card to buy my new one. Exciting stuff. Though I really doubt that I'm gonna get it for $499. It's going to probably be $50 to $100 more expensive that what that ad actually says. Though I hope not.
Just got done doing planogram in my store and it looks like the EVO 4g phone has been bumped down to $99.
Nice! Never thought about the fact that my phone would one day become almost entry level
LOL
I just got mine for 200 2 months ago what a shame. 3d looks so sick
Free at target for new customer or add a line. Dang I just add my daughter line with the Samsung Epic for $49.99 which I thought was a good deal, oh well she's happy with her Epic. But dang free for the Evo is a steal IMHO.

yeah i work at target my co worker had brought one a week before it went free lol he was sorta mad but he got it for 99 i think
Free from Best Buy and Radio Shack too
I feel like i been robbed. i left metro a couple months ago and paid 200 for mine also. Should have been just a bit more patient but my wife had the shift.. Maybe i was a lil jealous... lol
Is the perfect gift to my brother birthday.
Ok, so I have a question....
I added my wife's best friend to our plan about 2.5 weeks ago and she got the Nexus S. She hates it (reception issues). She is going to return it and get the Evo 4g (my wife has this phone, and so she knows it works and likes it). I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to return it to the sprint store, then go get the evo from best buy (LOL). This way, she gets 200 dollars back and has to pay 0.
The only way I can think of is to cancel the line altogether, then open a new line at BB, but she just started giving that new number to everyone and I don't think she wants to go through it again.
So if I have an upgrade I can go get a free evo? My brother has been wanting me to flash my evo to cricket and sell it to him and get another Evo. I won't be getting the 3d anytime because I have a tablet now and the EVO does enough for me. Don't see the point in having a really nice 7 inch tablet and really nice evo3d.
Nice to know!
MM
the evo is also free at http://wireless.amazon.com with new account. i bought it night before last and should be here any minute
I got mine free last week at best buy, with a 1 year upgrade, since they took away my Premier Gold status.
Nice, I'll go buy another one right now since it's so cheap , oh but I'm only half way through my 2-year, so I'll buy another one next year when it's $50!
I am trying to talk my girlfriend into getting an Evo, but she is Crackberry faithful, and thinks the Evo is too big to fit in her pocket at work. She is the last hold out in a house full of Androids.
I just scored one for my wife for $75 from Sprint Corporate. I have no idea how it arrived at that price so don't ask! ;-)
I just bought an Evo 3G yesterday for $150 at a Sprint store. Can I get a $50 credit from them or do I have to completely return it and buy another one?
Well that was easy. Called the store and they put a $50 credit on my account, took about 3 minutes.
Of course lol
Gotta be a sign that something better is coming out. If they're dropping prices this much for an EVO trying to rid quantity, a new phone upgraded EVO must be around corner. And no the 3d isn't it.

I noticed late last night, and still this morning, the Evo4G is now $29.95 on the Radio Shack website for either new Sprint 2-year contracts, or for eligible 2-year renewals.
The only difference is new customers get free shipping, while renewals pay $10.00 for standard FedEx.
Based on what I've seen in the past, it'll probably go back up after the holiday. It dropped to $99.00 at Christmas, and never got down to that again until the 3vo came out.

I just saw that, wow thats a crazy deal. If I didn't already have one I would be on it

Thanks for the heads up man. Just got my aunt an EVO for $40.
I just ordered one for my wife. Best deal I could find on the net for a renewal.
Just found that, here in Denver anyway, the price is also good in Radio Shack stores, through July 9 (with a "while supplies last" caveat). If it's true where you are, you can save the shipping fee, and since it's in the print ad, other retailers may match it.

are there any special for non renewal prices? would like to upgrade my wife to an evo but 2 year isn't up yet
Got mine from Best Buy for free also last week.
Did they do away with their rebate program still? I remember around the holidays, folks were price matching radio shack's $99, then doing the $100 rebate too.

If she's over 1 year, but not to the two year yet, call Sprint on this number:
(877)775-4886
Ask for a manual override of her upgrade date. You may need to explain that she was affected by the change in the Sprint Premier plan, but generally this staff has proven quite willing to push forward upgrades for people with over 12 months, and less than 22.
Once they put the new renewal date int he system, you can do your upgrade at Radio Shack, or wherever you like.
