Anybody verify that when headphones are plugged in to the 3.5mm stereo jack and a call is either placed or picked up that you can hear the person on the other end through the headphones but the person on the other end cannot hear you?
The mic is essentially disabled when the headphones are connected.
I have confirmed with Blackberry, HTC HD2, & Mytouch Headphones that you can indeed talk to the person. I did have a problem with pushing in the headphones in all the way, & when they weren't in all the way they couldn't hear me so make sure it is fully contacted with the jack.
Well it definitely looks like this is a proprietary issue. I took my phone back to verizon to check whether or not the phone was defective. Brought my handsfree (both Ifrogz and V-moda) to test on in-store fascinate. Made a phone call and the sales guy couldn't hear me. Put it in his storm2 and it worked just fine.
Went back and used a co-workers samsung's handsfree, and it worked perfectly. I wish they would've included the handsfree in verizon package. Unless somebody has tested out another handsfree brand to let us know, I'm thinking the 3.5mm jack is customized to samsung accessories only.

Keep in mind I'm not trying to use a handsfree headset - I'm attempting to use my Bose In-Ear headphones.
I used to be able to take calls on my Incredible (and other phones) with them if I was out trail running, walking, just listening to music, etc.
You have an excellent good point with regards to a proprietary 3.5 mm port due to the fact that it also supports video out.
get a cheap nokia headset controller ad-54 on ebay.. the changes the wiring so calls can work through headphones.. ie one of these

I also can confirm that this doesn't work with the Fascinate. On numerous occasions, I have been walking to class on campus while listening to music. I assumed I could just answer the call and speak, because I could do that on my Droid X, but the caller wasn't able to hear me.
I'm assuming Bose headphones do not have a microphone, so how do you plan on using those for calls?
You need to use headphones with a 4 prong jack, which has a mic, such as the OEM ones

Plugging in the headphones disables the main microphone on the phone though, even if there is not a mic on the headset. Normally on other phones I've had, I could answer while on the headphones and just speak into the phone's mic, but that us not possible with this phone. I don't know if there is a remedy for this that doesn't involve using a special set of headphones...

I used my old blackberry headphones from my Storm and doesn't work but I noticed my friend had a spare headphones for his HD2. I should asks him for them.i doubt he needs a spare since he rarely uses a headphone.

So I figyred how to use my blackberry headset on my Fascinate. I had to unplug after making a call and then plug it back in.

I'm not sure if it was just me but I also had something odd happen. I used to use my iPhone for navigation and music in my car so, naturally, I use my new Fascinate the same way. I received a call while using my bluetooth headset and the phone routed audio to the car stereo instead of the bluetooth headset. I could hear the caller but they (obviously) couldn't hear me. The audio source on the screen was set to bluetooth too. Fairly annoying.
Anyone able to solve this?
Are you on a stock rom or a custom one? I believe this has been fixed with the Super Clean rom.

I'm using SC 2.9.2 and the receiving end couldn't hear anything.
I've run into this same issue. My wife's car has a bluetooth phone connection, so when in her car, I have my phone plugged into her stereo for music. When a phone call comes through, the call is picked up through the bluetooth, but the other end can't hear me unless I unplug the cable from the headphone jack.

When i'm driving, my phone is always connected to the headphone jack, so i can listen to spotify over my car's radio ^^
But when i receive a call, the phone always routes the audio output to the internal speaker, which is rather useless in this situation
Is it somehow possible to route the sound to the headphone jack, when receiving a phone call? Maybe some kind of a kernel patch?
Would make a good replacement for a hands-free kit

Yes, this is something I should implement soon in Voodoo sound.
In skype, I could make voice calls using a headphone without microphone. Skype all automatically uses the built in microphone.
Now, how do we make dialer the same?

What I do to fix this problem is to use a Nokia headset adapter since Nokia uses the same 4 pin configuration as Samsung and it works.
I don't really think this can be fixed software wise... I would be pleasantly surprised if it was

Hello,
I have a problem with getting Android music over LG HBM-220 bluetooth headset.
I can pair the headset normally with my LG GT540 mobile phone, and they work fine when i am making calls, but the audio (music) does not work.
Why is that so? Is there some application i need to install to transfer audio over bluetooth, or the headset doesn't work with audio?

I don't think Android can do this out of the box, try searching around Google and Android market, because I am intrigued about this too.

I have the same problem, and Android actually suports streaming by bluetooth, the problem its that Swiftdroid (the Modded Ver.) dont support it. Im looking for a solution.

Stupid question, but how good is audio quality over bluetootha headphones? I supose file with big bitrate dont stream in full bitrate. Or i'm wrong?

I think the Bluetooth technology on the LG GT540 doesn't support Enhanced Data Rates (EDR), so it will result in a lower quality.

Would seem that it does (I could'a sworn that it didn't... guess I never checked the specs sufficiently), however I have tried to sort out some kind of 3rd party Media->Bluetooth and have managed to get it to work... sorta, but the quality has always been damn horrid (not to mention it only ever works while the screen is on, and not locked). -- This may be due to the fact that SwiftDroid does not have native support for Media->Bluetooth and therefore may be missing vital library/module components needed to utilize Bluetooth EDR.

Well....i can use my headphones perfectly with Swiftdroid.....even the screen is lock or unlock.

i have a big issue with my galaxy s 2
i use a bt car stereo, with a2dp and avrcp support
i used to stream all my music collection from my iphone4
now i got my sgs2 and i love it... but
the audio stream looks "limited"
it seems a bandwidth issue, or i don't know a quality issue
with iphone4 i streamed at full quality, now the sgs2 sounds a lot worst
other than that, i have to disable wifi because if on, the music is choppy and skips a lot
with wifi off, the stream goes well, but it sound bad...
sorry for my not so perfect english... i hope there is a way to improve sound quality because i "live" with a2dp on in my car...
That's strange. My a2dp stream actually sound better from sgs2 than it does from my ipod touch 2nd gen, iphone or my computer (bluez).
Receiver is a belkin stereo a2dp receiver.
Are you sure that it's not in handsfree mode? Long press the a2dp device in bluetooth settings and there should be an option to select it to be a media device, make sure it's checked.

I got a belkin stereo receiver as well, but it sounds bad and choppy, just like the topic starter described. Though still compressed (this is a known issue for A2DP due to bandwidth limitations) songs sounds much better from my Nokia E52 work phone.

The "but my (insert phone) worked better" isn't really valid. For as many people who make that statement there are an equal number who are shocked that the SGS2 works where other phones haven't. This is kind of like the Wi-Fi issue. When two pieces of equipment don't interact well you can't just blame one of them.
In my car and on my Yamaha YSP-4000 the SGS2's Bluetooth works better than any phone I've used. That includes the HD2, G2, and G2X. The sound is much more defined and headset controls (random and repeat) show available for the first time. The SGS2 also feeds track info to the car which none of the others did.
Bluetooth connections and sound quality are always a big YMMV.
My Sony MW600 sound great, I use to have a Motorola Defy , and it use to have an "Enhanced Stereo" option in the blue-tooth menu, the Samsung S2 does not have this option.

Oh I know, I not blaming the SGS2. I only think the SGS2 out sound to it's output module which is somehow less suitable for the kind of compression, maybe set by the Belkin module. Actually I'm currious if there would be ways to change the way the SGS2 sends sound signals via A2DP

LG's implementation of Bluetooth drove G2X owners crazy. Check out this thread from the G2X forum...

Maybe it will help. The only other solution for the G2X was installing an AOSP ROM.
Well, I tried it (Bluetooth Fix Repair), but off-course that tool is for a problem the SGS2 does not have.
From the tinkering I've done now I know.
- Having MusicFX installed does not make a difference
- Video players running ffmpeg codec do also not make much difference in sound quality
- The -type- of file does make a difference, i.e. low bitrate files play better
This makes me think, is there a music program which can resample/recode music before playing. I'd rather have software do that than A2DP do it badly, or is mono output (other than all the tools enabling playback on mono headsets which is for pre-A2DP headsets and thus something else) possible?

Uncomment "Master" option and set it to "True".
Uncomment "MaxConnections" and set it to 3.
Most Android devices have this file configured poorly by default, those 2 settings should help though.
I'd suggest also enabling HFP and AutoConnect.

Since you seem to know your stuff, would there be a way to send a mono signal to (only) the A2DP stack and would this decrease the 'tin can' effect? I'd rather have better upper tones than stereo.

Thanks for the suggestions...going to try this and see if the sound quality improves in my car stereo.
Till now the best A2dp sound quality was on my Nexus S, but that was with the help of custom rom development and vodoo sound. Worst was the g2x.

Ok guys, I think I might have... accidentily... run into a phenonemon.
I tested my phone on a Creative D100 wireless speaker it it went great, no tin can sound, no hickups.
This proved to me that there had to be something wrong. Now when I was posting here earlier I was listening a lot to music and at a certain moment I thought... wait I'm not hearing a tin-can sound anymore. However, later on while testing I heard it again so I thought I imagined it.
Powering off the phone and powering on again I was able to create this again. No tin can sound... however a lot of hickups (as if a lot of data had to be sent and it didn't quite fit). I made a call to my work phone (sound on the handset) to test and then the tin can sound was there again, no hick ups anymore though. Strangely enough a haven't been able to replicate the 'no tin can sound but hickup situation' though by powering off and on again. Tried after playing on the Belkin on the D100 again and no problems at all, great sound and no hickups whatsoever.
It appears to be a bigger issue with android connected to the bitpool setting the bluetooth receiver desires...

I too felt that the A2DP sound quality on the Nokia BH103 is crap as compared to my Nokia 5800 (sounded even better than stock wired headset). It also uses a lot more battery, I find mediaserver using a lot of battery.
How do we escalate this to Samsung?

How the does bluetooth sound for you guys? Mine seems to be worse after the B29 update (not for certain that's when it degraded). I have a decent car stereo setup, but bluetooth distorts and crackles in the mids and highs. It's not unlistenable, but I thought my stereo was on the fritz until I used my 3.5mm input from the headphone jack, which sounds just fine. It can't be that the DAC is that much better, as my other phones sounds fine and this used to.
Do you have any thoughts or experience with something besides a small bluetooth speaker?
And I have tried playing with the Dolby settings. They make no difference with the distortion.
After some perfunctory tests I have noted that Bluetooth audio seems to introduce a significant amount of extra noise at high volumes. Aside from the additional background noise I have not noticed distortions with Bluetooth yet. I have only checked this on B29.

Just something to try...I have a BT device hooked to my AVR, and when I stream through that, if I have the volume on my phone up it sounds horrible. If I stream through it with the volume up just 1 click of the volume button, it sounds good. I increase volume at the AVR instead of the phone.
Through Bluetooth hands free working flawlessly to my.(A2017G version)
I'm having 2 LG 1100/2 Sony SBH 80 and 2 SBH 20.
Haven't try it with external speakers(since I don't own any kind) and on my car I'm using the handsfree and not connected to the car audio system.

I have a A2017G on B05 and a somewhat cheap aukey BT headset: it seems to sound fine for me, no crackling or hissing. Have you tried it on different devices to compare?
A2017U on B29, using Jaybirds Bluebuds X, the sound its great, no distortion or cracking.

Did you verify that all your bluetooth devices supports aptx? if not then you will lose sound quality :S
idk, i dont like bluetooth audio streaming... even with aptx. Its not bad but if you want to steam flac music it will still limit the quality. Somehow if i stream the music via bluetooths aptx it sound flat not dynmic and
voluminous.
I haven't tried it with the volume just below full. I'll give it a shot in the morning on my commute.
Other devices (S5 and 6P) sound just fine when paired to my headed unit, so it's likely something with my Axon 7.

On the phone. I meant to say that it's not using the HiFi audio, but the Dolby eq it's fine on Bluetooth. Sorry for the confusion.
I think it sounds about 95% better just one click below full volume. I never would have thought that digital Bluetooth volume would have been the problem, having always set it to 100% with every other device. Thankfully, Tasker makes for a quick fix.
