Food for thought on iOS/Apple vs Android/Motorola - Xoom General

An exercise for those of you who enjoy arguing about which is the the better product (or don't enjoy it but still can't keep yourself from it):
1. Estimate how many hours you've spent reading and writing in the iPad vs Xoom (and general iOS vs Android) threads. Now add 10% to your estimate because time flies when you're on a rant and you're probably under-estimating anyway.
2. Now figure out what you're paid for hour at work (break down your salary into 40 hour weeks if you're not paid hourly.)
3. Multiply 1 by 2.
Would you donate that much money to any of these companies and expect nothing in return?
No? Then why are you giving them so much of your time and energy?
Android fans: Maybe spend that time in the forums helping people figure out how to do stuff they want to do instead?
Apple fans: Go find an Apple discussion forum. Seriously.

I agree but it's direct competition. iPad 2 vs. Xoom is the hot gadget match up right now and people are going to support whichever they choose.
But in all reality, keep that stuff of the Xoom boards. Debate is good but I'm getting quite sick of the trolling especially when all the counter-arguments seem to be people that either 1. do not own a Xoom 2. that are not used to Android, and they gripe about things that can be fixed now or will be fixed in the near future.
Why do I go out of my way to argue for the Xoom? Because I really love the damn thing. It has been consistently in my hands since I bought it. It now has 90% of my attention over my plethora of other devices including a Nexus S, Nexus One, Atrix 4G (cannot wait to sell this thing), G-tablet, iPhone 4 (GFs but I used to use it a good bit). My friend also has an iPad 2 and I have been able to use it a couple of times. The whole experience with my Xoom tablet has been excellent in my eyes so far.

Another thread on this?

Really? Another thread?

another lame thread. seriously.

People like to argue.

If only more threads like this existed there would never have been an mac VS PC debates...

let me just say this. When I first got my g1 every one of my friends had an iPhone. I would argue with them and finally they saw what they were missing. Now every one of my friends has an android phone and they will never go back.
I can't say much about the tablet debate because I'm the only one with one and its a xoom

How much do I get paid for reading this?

Not sure im liking this Xoom

Trying hard to get used to the 16x9. Also, the weight of it at times I really notice after holding it in bed for a decent amount of time. Also the fact I did not get a data plan and it cost me $853. When I know a wifi only version is coming out that will be quite a bit cheaper. Honeycomb is taking some time to get used to. There aren't many apps for it, so I find myself getting bored. All i seem to be doing with it is web and facebook stuff. I think may return for ipad 2.

Of course it's gonna take some getting used to its a new OS. Obviously there aren't gonna be many apps, as it just came out a week ago.
Sitting here looking at an iPad, a Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Xoom.
Xoom is a bit too bulky. Love the screen size. Waiting for some more apps (I know it just came out, but there are apps on the Galaxy Tab that I want on the Xoom).
Not sure the Xoom is hanging around.
mine is going back for sure
then take it back. What makes people think that we care if you choose so and so over something else. You know what you want so get it. Xoom isn't cutting for you then get something you wwill be happy with. No nneed to share with everyone.
I hope HTC makes a large Honeycomb tablet. I completely ignored them after the release of the HTC Flyer because I didn't appreciate the screen size, and it didn't run Honeycomb. However it was beautiful, and even had a unibody design. The Flyer was definitely a nicely designed tablet, and I do want to see what HTC does with a larger device.
They seem to be the only company that creates Android products (well, Motorola too) that focuses heavily on build quality and design. I assume if they made a larger Honeycomb tablet it would actually look up-to-par with an iPad. The silver Xoom somewhat does. This post is somewhat entirely irrelevant =/
the Xoom is supposed to be a media powerhouse. Which is why the screen is so big. It is a bit heavy, but it hasn't botherd me that much in this last week.
My girlfriend said if I return mine I can go to sunfest in florida next month. Sunfest is going to be awesome with lots of big names including sublime with Rome and ziggy marley. I am 1200 miles away from west palm beach where it will be held. I want to go so bad.
I am not returning my Xoom.
For anyone complaining about it I can see your reasons. I really can. But these were all issues I knew before spending 800$ on it. I knew these issues because I spent lots of Time thinking about it and evaluating my options before I payed almost 900 for it.
If you did not do this you are a fool for spending that amount of money without allowing your brain to process information beforehand.
Someone remind me how many apps were on ios when the iPhone launched please.
Already returned mine. It is a nice product its just not ready for the market. The price is ridiculous for what it offers.
Great, since you are both getting rid of your Xooms you can go to a different XDA forum now. Yay.
Is there any reason why this couldn't have gone into the other threads like this? I don't know why the 6 (yes, random number) people with the same nit-picky issues can't hold each other's hand through the return process in the same thread. It's not even buyer's remorse. It's not being able to put your finger on what you want upfront, and faulting the thing you bought for being the way it's clearly advertised.

They have to let everyone know they are returning it.
HEY GUYS I DON'T LIKE THE XOOM, I AM RETURNING IT OKAY. I'LL COME BACK EVERY NOW AND THEN TO TELL YOU WHY I TOOK IT BACK.
I think these types of threads are stupid.
Anyone who would return their Xoom because someone else doesn't like is an idiot. Now if you are trying to get more information because maybe you don't understand how a the platform works that is different.
So if you want us to help you understand how Honeycomb and the Moto Xoom work that's great. On the other hand if you just don't like it no one really cares. The only person I need to like my Xoom is me and maybe my girlfriend.
Complaining about how people post their complaints won't do any good. They will post it regardless... you might as well ignore it and move on. If I actually had a Xoom and didn't like it, I would sure as hell post in a thread (maybe not a new one) exactly why I don't like it.
All that I'm afraid of is that the Honeycomb OS itself will never make it past the "nice-try" stage. I love the Xoom so far but it IS a risky business right now. I am convinced that other HC tablets will push the demand for apps and updated software but can "we" win the fight? The only time I would be sorry to have purchased the Xoom is when support for it stops and it becomes an orphan. Other than that - still have to break the news to my wifey

I love my Xoom. No tablet will be able to compare to the Xoom this year..ipad 2 is just big ipod touch 4th gen.the galaxy tab 10.1 is even more of a joke. The only tablet that will come close to the Xoom is the Toshiba tablet.

Ok. That information would be useful if:
- Your Xoom was suffering from a defect of design (iPhone 4 antenna) that is probably shared with other Xooms.
- If in your research of how the product was understood to work, you found something nobody else had, or were commenting about an issue to help bring about a consensus.
- If there was some way of showing whether or not you were a knee-jerk purchaser, or someone that bothered to take 2 minutes and Google the Xoom before you bought it. This point has been exhausted, but buying a first generation device with an OS whose official innards weren't released to the overwhelming majority of developers even two weeks ago isn't for everyone. It's your own responsibility to research a product. The Xoom is exactly what Motorola said it was, and every issue everyone has ever posted other than nuances to the software was a click away from before the thing was even released. If someone wants to make threads about how stupid they were for spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on something before checking it out, I'll thumbs up those all day.
TLDR - Some of the Xoom's features were advertised as "released in the coming weeks" before the product's release. This is not news, or worth sharing as a reason for your return to the store.
Edit: Just thought of something. The video playback is annoying and was kind of a surprise. I'll totally give you that one. But with some playing around and effort I'm really satisfied with the quality.
returning it for ipad 2 .

How is the Motorola Xoom? The best, or not?

I had a chance to play with a Xoom briefly at a local Best Buy and was pleasantly surprised how well I liked it. It felt solid and significant and looked very nice. Honeycomb was...well...pure honey. It left me with the distinct desire to own one. Though recent test have the iPad2 blowing it away, the iPad2 doesn't have the higher res display of the Xoom. I would much rather watch the Xoom display than the iPad2.
But I need people;s experiences with the Xoom since it is a significant investment for me. I would buy the full-priced WiFi-only version, that's why it would be such a significant investment...no subsidized pricing. However, knowing what I know of Motorola's support tactics, we all really should be boycotting them rather than considering buying anything from them. They never update any non-subsidized products. If you own a Moto device from a carrier, you wil eventually get updates and bug fixes. But it you buy one outright, you are abandon as soon as they have your money.
I paid a 1000$ for mine and I am very happy.

Based on what I read in another thread about some bugs in HC, I've decided to either wait for a Google produced tablet with HC or stick with Apple and wait for an iPad with a higher res display. I know Google and Apple take good care of their customers with updates, support and bug fixes so it won't be a worry to me. The carriers and other manufacturers tend to be greedy and slight their customers. I won't take a chance on them.

+ The Android OS is more friendly for everyday use. I owned a iPad, loved it, but when I got the Xoom, I realized that a tablet could be way better To say it simply, with honeycomb you have everything at hand with a simple touch, while on the iPad you have to browse through many screens to get things done. Huge difference if you want to use a tablet more productively and not for incidentally browsing, reading etc.
For example:
Picture this, I have four very active email accounts. I have a widget for each of them on my desktop. When I want to check my mail I just press home and I directly see the the new messages in each mailbox. On the iPad I first had to open the mail app and then I had to click on each of the different mailboxes to see the new messages. What a usability difference....
And this is just one example. I think Android tablets will definitely be a tough competition for the iPad. Didn't expect that till I did the switch myself. Lot of potential.

My 2 cents for you, I looked at the Xoom simply as something to use while 'someone' is on my laptop for hours at a time. My nice new Dell Win7 laptop cost a little more than a Xoom, and it does so much more, so I personally don't look at the Xoom as a "PC replacement". It's something I plan to use at home mostly. I bought the WiFi only one because I didn't want to be tied to Verizon for 2 years, because we really don't know how long Moto is going to put the effort into the Xoom. I don't want to potentially be paying Verizon a monthly fee for a lightly/none supported product in months 12-24 down the road.
The clamor about "Xoom has no apps" is total BS. Having 10,000 apps that make fart noises isn't something to tout. Not everything is perfect, but I'm the type that wants to personalize my device. I think Ipad has it's place as does the Xoom. People that bash either just have incomplete lives with nothing better to do. In my opinion, Ipad is more mainstream, it's what the 'unwashed masses' will flock to, because it has a consistent and simple interface, stability and requires the person to be less involved with 'setting things up'.
I'm not a 'media intensive' person...I could give 2 ****s how Youtube works on the Xoom. I have not tried the HDMI output yet, but in using 'TV' apps I'm happy that I have the option, if I take a trip where I have WiFi that I can stream music/video (I don't care that it's not in 1080p, I can live without it on even a 6 hour trip). I'm intelligent enough to read the postings here, to find apps that let me stream Dexter Season 5, which is NOT out on Netflix yet, so THAT was cool to me. I did try the NHL.com Gamecenter streaming of live games and it worked pretty good.
Also, I have an EVO through Sprint, so for $30 a month I can activate it's HotSpot feature and get unlimited data. So in my mind, if I really want to use it 'away from home' for whatever reason someone has I can also turn on/off the Hotspot feature whenever and they prorate the $30/mo to the day. So if I turn the feature on/off for 5 days in the month, it costs me $5 for that month. I could decide to be lazy too, and just leave it enabled all month, and I think that's a better deal than a 2 year contract w/ Verizon with a monthly data cap. Of course what I am doing requires 'effort' that so many people just don't want to put into things.
To me, I guess having the 3/4G options would be nice at times, but really, where outside of Home does a person really need to whip out their tablet? You going to take it to a movie or dinner, or to the ballgame? If so, why did you pay to attend something and then stick your face in your tablet? Or if you are on a bus/train, why don't you just stick a big "please rob me" sign on your back? If you are using it for 'work' chances are that you need to use it for more than a few minutes and likely for data intensive things, so your likely only going to be 'working' someplace with WiFi....if your company doesn't have WiFi (like mine) that's probably a sign that you employer doesn't want your WiFi device at work

3d tests. but apple is vying for top mobile gaming platform so you can see why.
I think you are asking the wrong question. Of course the Xoom is not the BEST...but then NO product fulfills that criteria for me. The Xoom is excellent. I enjoy it greatly, and there are reasons I picked it over the other options which are still valid. I am satisfied with my choice, but it was a choice, and given slightly different thinking, I am sure I would have been happy with the iPad 2 or the other new Honeycomb tablets when they arrive. I personally think you would not regret a Xoom purchase...but that is just my opinion.
Xoom is decent, but its just the hardware. Before the end of the year I'm sure we will be seeing some great devices that will trump the xoom. Also 2012 I'm sure will be a very exciting year for tablets. Very excited to see what will happen
If now talking about Honeycomb, I believe from what I see is so far the best. Once it get its kinks worked out and we go through a few updates Honeycomb will be the best OS out there for tablets. Honeycomb>IOS>Palm(HP)>blackberry qnx

None of those sites you listed performed the test again and some of them were simply just forums discussing the information Anandtech presented to us. They only posted Anandtech's graphs and reported the information back again. Therefore it was still "one review" and the fanboys can still say "Just one review!". I'm not trying to be negative, I get your point and what you were trying to prove. The iPad 2 is more powerful than the Xoom and anyone who claims otherwise is... in denial, or a fanboy.

Sorry about sounding hostile. It isn't meant. I have had a bad day already. Having been infracted for responding to hateful people and those very same people have not been infracted. When you are an innocent person who wants nothing more than to express views and allow others to express their views and you get accosted for it, it leaves you with a seriously jaded view of life and humanity. It makes a person hope there truly is something to the 2012 myth because I've had my fill of the hatred people love to spew.
As far as the iPad2 goes, I wouldn't buy one of those either. I don't like looking at highly visible pixels on a screen. The iPad2's 1024x768 res is just way too low for this day and time. I did love the display of the Xoom and was yearning for a Xoom...until I was reminded it would be supported by Motorola. But I did read a post that said Google would be updating the Xoom. If this is true...and I'm trying to get confirmation of this in another thread...I may yet acquire a Xoom. As I said, though, I won't get one through or locked to carriers. It would be the full-priced one with WiFi only.

The iPad is a finished product. It's a good one, too. (My wife has the iPad 1.)
The Xoom is not finished, and it approaches the new iPad already.
The iPad is never gonna suck, but it's pretty obvious the Xoom has the potential to kick it's ass. However, I have very little faith that Google, Motorola or Verizon will bring it to that point. We'll need to rely on the Android development community for that.
In my opinion, the only time a Xoom will ever be really great is when it's rooted and has a custom ROM installed.

The sad part is, I predicted someone would waste their time to say that. It seems people would rather post negative light about others than useful information.
The *reason* why I posted all of those was because the fanboys would come back and say, "Aha! Just one review! That doesn't mean anything!"
However, knowing that someone would complain that all of those links weren't needed, I chose that direction rather than allowing the fanboy/girls a voice.

Are you for real? Go back and read all of your posts in this thread.
You posted that many links to show how people reported on the ONE benchmark? What does that have to do with anything? Not one of those sites re-ran or even confirmed the benchmark themselves, so it is relavent to point out that you could have and should have posted only one link.
You're trying to find fault for some reason in a product you don't own and then post it on the forum. You have to see why this might make me thing you're trolling for no reason.
If you don't like Motorola based on one forum post, that's fine. If you don't like the Xoom based on one test, that's fine. If you don't like it because you actually tried it and tested it for a long time, that's another story. Posting links we have all seen (weeks ago), doesn't help anyone on this forum or help anyone decide to/not to buy something that you don't even own.
Just how I feel about this whole thread.

That's the problem with Motorola products, the BIOS and bootloader are locked. The only time a custom ROM can be flashed is if it's based on an official Motorola ROM. That's one of my biggest concerns about Motorola. They hinder the XDA community from doing their magic on Motorola devices. If Google releases an updated Honeycomb ROM that deals with bugs and provides performance enhancement, the XDA community can't use it on Motorola devices until Motorola makes an official ROM out of it.

That goes without say, but look at all the "tech gurus" and their "my opinion is fact tech articles" on their blogs and websites that claim the xoom is nowhere near the ipad 2 and it is such a solid device and had almost no issues. I think a lot of the overly biased reviews aren't helping the xooms sell. Many users on here write less biased more intuitive reviews over the tech sites online do.

Do you really want one to start naming all that is worse about the Xoom? And yes, you're trying to flame with this thread.

Yes sir, your opinion is right. I made this point because every major tech company bashes to xooms and neglects the obvious problems with the ipad 2. I also know all of the problems with the xoom, I own one and have for just over a month. Please tell me how I'm flaming here? I will openly admit many aspects of the xoom are beta and to me it should have been just like the chrome netbooks, given to people to test and enjoy not sold, but I am an early adopter as I have owned a G1, Nexus one, Nexus S, and my xoom, so I will gladly purchase what helps push the products forward as long as I see its value as a product and where I will actually need it in life.
I still however love my xoom, and all of its faults, and also believe the ipad and ipad 2 have their own market as well and by no means think either need to go away. You sir have no logical reason to call me a flamer I did not call it a flaming pile of ****, but a rushed device in many ways just like to xoom was.
Besides if I hated apple, I never would have bought my girlfriend her the 13" MacBook, the 24" iMac, or the 32gb wifi ipad she has but you sir can continue to assume you know all about people when I own far more apple products then the average person.
XOOM failures so as to appease you:
-Lag when moving anything when device is upside down.
-even when set to automatically update no market apps update.
-browser can crash quite about with the gesture lab.
-the power connector feels like its going to break when inserting the charge cable
-YouTube widget gets hung refreshing for me a lot causing desktop lag and has to be removed to stop it.
-though it doesn't bother me the video encoding is a big let down to many.
-the price tag is a bit daunting to many would are in the middle of.the road, I feel for its price the standard dock and a gel skin should come with it.
-I think the widget grid should be expanded to the edges
The list goes on and many have other problems I do not, and vice versa. To me when Andy Rubin says people cut to many corners on Honeycomb, being the largest reason the source code has not been released and Larry Page is assigning more people to the Android development team to fix things that maybe it wasn't by any means ready to be outside of beta. Just like gingerbread and the reason it took so long to make it to the Nexus One.

The problems with the Xoom a guaranteed. No SD card works, no one has LTE, no one has a wide variety of apps, everyone has laggy this or broken that.
Big deal if an iPad 2 or two have some random problem.
I love Android as much as the next guy. To say that Apple is not miles ahead in the tablet war is foolish and fanboyish. I know its difficult for some people to give credit where credit is due.

Did I state they were not miles ahead? Calling a wifi issue which stems from the last generation ipad not a major issue is something foolish. It was brushed off as a software related issue that was never fixed as has carried over into the second generation iPad. Next everyone tears the Nexus s for not reconnecting to 3g without a reboot and everyone is screaming bloody murder in the Nexus s forums and it gets flammed everywhere for it, but you call it not a major issue on an ipad 2?
Obviously you missed my early response that I have in fact purchased an iPad along with several other Apple products ovet the past 6 years (and in fact to add to that we both had 80gb ipod videos), for my girlfriend and in turn I would say is better quality build than an iPad 2. If i didnt feel credit was due to Apple they wouldn't have recieved about $4000 over the past years in product purchases. I feel the ipad 2 is a rushed device, I am most calling it garbage by any means, but in all honesty I think the only problem with the first gen is that it lacked sufficient ram when the OS updated and it recieved faux multi-tasking. Other than that it feels like a rushed device, to maintain momentum they a ready had. Please tell me how anything I am saying is fanboyish?
If I even thought the ipad was not a quality device my girlfriend could use for daily tasks and presenting her portfolio as a Graphic Designer with then, I would have not made the purchase and would have tried to sway her interest in waiting for android tablets. I said there is and will be a market the ipad fills that android tablets will never fill, ease of use no matter age or tech background, anyone can pick it up and love it where as watching people with android tablets, like my xoom people get confused.
What is happening with all of these issues is no different then how the xooms list of need to fix asap is piling up, they are both rushed devices, I feel neither one was ready for the market quite yet, and yet both wanted to be out either first or close enough to disrupt the others launch. That said the woes of the xoom are heavier in some areas, but to see people treating issues like the ipad 2 as nothing but a minor problem and the xoom as a not worthwhile purchase is where this thread is intended in meaning.
If I had not started with a G1 and stuck with google experience devices all the way through now I'd probably be a livid user and would have returned my xoom by now. I think that being a linux user for over 7+ years has also attributed to my patience with software issues can always be fixed, especially when there is a strong community backing it.
Say what you want, call me a fan boy, ill recommend a first Gen ipad any day to an average consumer with little understanding of electronics over an ipad 2 any day. I recommnd the Xoom to people with above average knowledge(or the want to learn), patience, and appreciation for the finished product when it comes.

Not to metion that apple has shipped 2.4 million ipad2s already compared to maybe 100k Xooms for motorola. So any little bug is going to have a much bigger effect. Say both the xoom and the ipad2 have the exact same wifi bug stemming from a certain type of router. The ipad2 is gonna have 24 people affected for every one person for the xoom. So problems will be much more pronounced when you ship the volume apple does.

Transformer wins Gadget of the year.

Beating iPad2.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15559778
Braindead media experts are in shock that their beloved Apple did not win it.
However anyone with any sense already knew this. I mean the Transformer beats the iPad2 in every respect.
* 7x the camera megapixel count.
* 20% more screen resolution.
* USB2 ports
* Dock with double battery life
* Lower cost
A win for great technology over average technology and slick marketing.
-----
"Despite the iPad 2 being a finer tablet in the purest sense, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer offers so much more," Stuff's consulting editor, Simon Osborne-Walker, told the BBC.
-----
:/ ifag much?
but seriously the TF deserves it
---
Asus is expected to launch a successor hybrid device within the coming weeks. Analysts say the new version is likely to include a faster processor and the latest version of Google's Android system.
---
are these so called experts living under a rock or something?
I'd love for them to define how it's actually "finer tablet in the purest sense,"..
I mean if any other company launched a tablet with a main camera with a pathetic 700k pixel camera, when even cheapo smartphones have 5Mpixels camera, they would be absolutely slated.
It's a vicious cycle of course, all these "experts" only know iPad2, because they simply can't be bothered to look elsewhere (and many of them get complimentary review iPad2 units to keep, so why bother..), so just assume that it's the best because it's best selling, and it's best selling just cements that further...
well personally i find alot of apple customers to be borderline obsessed with apple products..... its kinda scary, the power that marketing has on people with weaker minds :/

No ****, I'm married to one. She won't even consider Android anything anymore. She has made it clear her next phone will be the iPhone 5 and we sold the iPad and she is using my Transformer and *****es about it EVERY SINGLE DAY demanding she get an iPad 2. Yet...one of the main things she wants to do is Skype (with family) which is much better on the Transformer due to the camera but she just doesn't get it. Oh, did I mention she has never even used an iPhone before, but she said she just knows its better...
So, in an effort to stave off a domestic violence situation and/or divorce...we are buying a stupid iPad 2 today.
I love her in every other way...but her understanding of technology is a disappointment. I guess no one is perfect...well...except us here in the forums.

Who will pay? If you then do not buy! Ask him why Apple is the best and if the answer is so foolish, he is a believer in Apple. Apple fan boys and girls are the worst. Android is in many ways better than iOS.

My wife is the exact same!!!!!!
Except her drama is with an HTC Desire Z (she "had" to have a hard keyboard lol). Which although she has never had an iphone, claims it has no problems and would work perfectly unlike the daily rubbish desire Z lol
The TF gets the same abuse, never used an ipad but claims it would be better because Polaris office doesn't have a spell check (to be fair it is a bit annoying but hardly a reason to condemn an entire device to the bin lol - oh and the browser's quick controls confuse her lol).
I dont understand these people what is wrong with them why have a slower processor less ram a crap camera updates that come out once in a blue moon and a market where almost nothing usefull is free and a system thats under more control than a chinese media centre
I admit time wise ios has the phd and android is still a student but that student is a prodogy
Maybe you're wifes and girlfriends will learn once they actally buy the iphone five and you have a kal el powered android phone

Way to go Asus though. My transformer is the best gadget I've ever owned. I've finally been able to ditch my HP laptop for business meetings.
Because it's Apple; 'nough said. If I had so many froathy mouthed lunatic fans as the cult of the Mac' then I would invent a thermo-nuclear death ray and direct them to take over the world for me. Hehe.

I'm blessed, because my fiancee generally takes a "That's retarded!" view of such things; be it blind Apple Fanboyism (It's just better because it's Apple) or pretty much anything else like that. Wouldn't be surprised if she went iPhone should she someday take a smart phone, which is perfectly fine with me. It really is a major pleasure to have someone like I do, and knowing that the girl I love can apply her mind even there: rather than joining the mindless mob. I love that Firefly.
Differences like what you've got to deal with are probably ineveable in any relationship IMHO but at least you don't have to trade in all your crap for iCrap lol.

iOS is only good if you Jailbreak it. Without Cydia iOS sux. It's slow and clunky. The true tech savvy person knows that Android rules over iOS in every aspect except for ergonomics. Apple still has the thinnest phones and pads.
Asus really won me over with my transformer, I have an iPhone 4 and i decided to go android for my tablet to get sense of them, now i can't stand using my iPhone it just doesn't do what I want it to do and I know my next phone will be a Nexu phone... except i have another ytwo years on my contract.... Damn you Canada and your 3 year contracts

Without jailbreak you can change the socks and with jailbreak you can change shoes. So it's not a big deal. Without root allows you to do more than jailbreaked iOS device.

General Public

I was waiting for an appointment when several of the people noticed my Galaxy Note. I was amazed at all of their comments about how great it was to have a phone like this that looks more like a tablet and could you actually use it as a phone. They all called it my little iPad, very funny! Not one of the women commented on it being too large for them to use. The owner of the shop asked me where I bought it and proceeded to go online to Handtech and buy one, he's an iPhone 4 user. Most all the comments were made with a note of amazement. I was surprised at the general public's knowledge about unlocked phones and their use outside of the United States. Just wondering how many of you guys have had similar experiences. Everyone there wanted to know when it would be available and from what carrier.
similar experience with my phone whenever people notice it, a buddy of mine thought he was top dog with his 4.52 inch samsung galaxy s2 epic touch.... he said he wanted to do an ETF and buy this phone. Everyone also calls the phone "a little ipad"
I've only had positive reactions, especially when I show them how easy it is to go in my pocket. 1 week on, it just seems like a normal sized phone until I see someone else's.
I, also, have only had positive reactions. Several people did make ipad references (come on people, learn the word tablet!) When people ask how much it was and I tell them a little over $700 they typically are shocked, so now I've started answering "about $50 or so more than an iphone." The average American just doesn't know crap about cell phones and the subsidy model our carriers employ has them thinking smartphones cost $200. So rather than taking the time to explain how cellphones, including the one they're holding, actually cost $600-$700 and they're paying for it spread out over months without even knowing it, I just answer in terms they understand. And sometimes I'll explain how I bought a $200 icrap, sold it, and used the money to buy the Note (even though it wasn't actually in that order.)

I had two fanboy's come over to me today while I was using the Note at Best Buy, they kind of get sad, quite and a little depressed and walk away.
I'd say people either fall in love with it, or they are kind of not wanting to even try it.
I handed it to an iphone user whose first comment was, 'Wow, this keyboard is just wonderful'. (thumb keyboard 5" landscape).
One of my friends was mocking the size until I let him play with it and he started web browsing.
After some nodding he start mumbling, 'This form factor is quite nice, actually'.
My two best show off things are:
1) PDFs of the manual to show off text reading
2) playback of a movie trailer
I don't think you REALLY appreciate the note until you try to go back to a regular smartphone.
I started using my mytouch 4g the other day and after 5 minutes, I was thinking 'What is this? is this a joke?'

I used to get that with my Archos 70 (iPad?!) and now with my EP121 (iPad?!?!)... Eventually I won't get as mad as I do now!
Yesterday i met 2 Koreans in Germany and they where blown away.
They asked tons of questions and i was impressed by theyre reaction and my smile gets bigger and bigger
In my opinion they are 2 groups:
Group 1 fell in love with the galaxy Note.
The other group says its too big.
I was at the radio city music hall today - Two of the security guards approached me and were really interested in it. As they were pretty big guys, they were immediately attracted to the big screen.
My friends (all iphone users) totally flipped out when I first played them the immortals trailer on my phone.

The usual remark i hear is that ots a phone on steroids...and 'wow thats a good screen..' even from apple reps wanting to know what its like.
