Galaxt Tab on Orange - Galaxy Tab General

Orange UK have just dropped their prices of the Galaxy Tab on contract
£49 for the handset and £25 a month for 24 months (orange customers), £2 extra for non customers.
Picked mine up Friday, awesome peace of kit

A mate showed me that deal over the weekend and I was too tempted. I say "too tempted" because I just ordered one. Since you can only deliver to your billing address I'm getting it on Saturday so that I'm here.
Can't wait!!!
Here's the link for anyone who wants to see the complete list of Orange deals...

They're in the link I supplied. I'm paying £49 for the tablet, and £27 a month for 24 months.

Was just in northern Ireland stoped by an oreange dealer I asked what kind of plans the had for the tab that included voice and data he looked confused and told he they only had data plans with up to 1gb data. When asked what kind of voice they offered he did not have a clue. So what plans does orange offer with voice and data?

Is it because orange doesnt provide any voice service for the tab or it wasnt part of this deal?

Optus new plans are awesome

I rang up the other day and got them to switch my contract over for free. I'm on the $59 social, and basically if you think you use less than 1GB of youtube a month then you can get more calls, 2GB of data and unlimited voice and video calls to all optus ppl including landlines still with unlimited SMS.
AWESOME plans.
You may be interested in Exetel's too..
$15 per GB, uses the optus network, and Exetel can provide Voip.. $5 minimum per month.. So if you use 2GB max and less than $34 phone/sms per month, it works out to be WAYYY cheaper.
I couldn't call my wife and friends on that plan. The amount of calls for the price is sweet !

Might have to jump on this. I got friends from Optus who were commenting on the massive youtube use from the social plans and I suppose this was their solution. I personally save tube vids on my computer and just transfer to my phone so 2 gb on other stuff would be awesome

I recently left the dreaded Telstra and went to Virgin for $69 i get unlimited txt and calls to other virgin mobiles the girlfriend is on Virgin so that works out. And i also get unlimited txt to any mobile in Australia as well as 3 gig of data a month plus $450 worth of calls a month. Plus unused credit rolled over to the next month. I am so glad i got out of Telstra and will never look back.

Tmobile 3rd party sellers.. HSDPA?

looking at buying the desire HD before the new policy changes take effect in a few days... but i heard something saying that only android phones bought direct from Tmobile will be eligible for 3GB allowance and HSDPA connection speeds?
I have looked at Tmobile prices and frankly there rediculous...
Is there no way to buy cheaper through a 3rd party seller and still get the 3GB and fast connection speeds?
I did find 1 3rd party seller who states on the page itself ..
`*Fair use policy applies to Unlimited Internet: so you get up to 1GB with standard phones and and when you get the Internet flexible booster; up to 3GB with Andriod phones and 50MB with the BlackBerry email booster.`
so now im wondering if they just dont know about the 3rd party seller restrictions?
thanks for any help...... desperate to get it sorted before the 500mb comes into force,,
What prices have you seen? The t mobile prices seem very reasonable to me...
I forgot to mention, its always worth calling them and asking them to please you. It can help if you are an old customer, but not always! I have 900 mins, 500 texts, 3gb net, and two flexible boosters (ultd texts and ultd landline calls) for about 30 quid a month
As of today if you buy a T-Mobile contract which is non-Android (give away is that they sell the "unlimited broadband" via a free booster you will have a 1GB FUP but more importantly your data speed is capped to 360Kbps.
I had this "problem" when I bought my DHD from mobiles.co.uk. However a quick call to T-Mobile to log a "fault" with my mobile data saw me moved happily onto the standard Android setup - ie where a booster is not used for the unlimited broadband.
direct with T-mobile , they give you the 3GB on top for android phones, still got your booster to use.
3rd party, they use the booster for the basic unlimited 1gb internet.
Note, go via quidco, as new direct t-mobile contracts pays you £80 back.
i think direct works out the same if you take into account the extra booster and use / need it. For me the £5 euro talk and text saves me a few quid, as i pop into the eurozone a fair bit.
my contracts up for renewal on the 24th, so gotta get it sorted before 1st feb too, or ill have to go to 3

just had a look, ( 250mins now btw ) they are a sim only provider, so not that great a deal compared to contracts when looking at 24 months with a phone deals.
Looking for 500/600ish mins per month, and giffgaffs £20pm x24 £480 not much more with tmobile and ill get a DHD oh and some euro calls.
Nice if you allready have a decent phone tho
k an update
After another phone call to Tmob.. retentions offerdf me there best price for the DHD,,, was a joke,,, basicly 40 quid a month... the same deal any normal new customer can buy it for from the website.... needless to say i declined..
Phoned back laster to ask about the 3rd party reseller thing and the 3gb/faster data speeds... and was told that yes... if i buy my phone from somewhere like CPW or MPD.. it would only have the standard 1gb and slower data connection speed..... if bought from tmob them i would have 3gb/faster data connection as standard.... but ,, 40 quid??
After a few more questions she also mentioned that `official` 3rd party Tmob resellers also would have the 3gb/fast data on there android contracts..
I didnt even know of such places.... but phoned 1 this morning... and got a great deal on an upgrade...
Basicly 600 mins... 500 texts.. 3gb allowance with extra booster of my choice...(unlimited land line calls).. for £25 a month (although had to pay 30 quid up front for the DHD)
well pleased with that

Probably restricted, I was when I first received mine from mobiles.co.uk. As said above though, just give t-mob a call and explain your internet is slower than expected, as long as you get a decent enough/stupid enough operator they should upgrade you to the full 3gb and release an extra add-on. I did exactly this, she didn't query where I bought the phone from and simply said "oh yes, looks like someone messed up on your order, i'll change that to unlimited internet now which also free's up a booster for you, which would you like?" Sorted.

Place online called Chitterchatter,,,, i had never heard of em untill the Tmobile rep told me they were a accepted reseller.... glad i tried em
Know the shops, they are T-Mobile only highstreet sellers
And walked passed one an hour ago, may pop back Monday
my deal was for an upgrade,,,,, but they still do a crackin deal on a new contract too,,
FREE Screen Protector and Car Holder with HTC Desire HD
* 900 minutes
* 500 texts
* £30 per month 24 month contract
* Handset Free
i woulda went with this if they hadnt sorted out the £25pm line rental...
couldn't do that deal for me wanted £125 on top for the phone,
went direct with T-mobile in the end.
£30.64 per month 24months = £735.36 !
900min
500 texts
3GB internet
And euro booster
phone cost £0
Similar deal here when I upgraded on T-Mobile a few weeks ago. After calling 150 and telling them all the upgrade deals on their website sucked, they tempted me to stay with £30 p/m, free Desire HD, 600 any time / any network minutes, unlimited texts (with booster) and I'm still on the 3GB data plan. The best bit is they had no phones in stock so let me pick one up from my local Car Phone Warehouse... so it was unlocked and unbranded
I've taken my from third party reseller few months a go. (It was normal desire but I've sold it and bought dhd)
Sent email to tmobile after purchase that my internet is slow and received txt that I've used 80% of my allowance (by 3g watchdog i've used only 800mb)
They fixed that gave me 3gb allowance and hsdpa speed but didn't leave me a extra booster. My miss is in Italy and I had to ring her so decided to call tmobile first and tell them I can't pick my free booster. Guy over the phone put a booster for me and what is better reset my together rewards (i've used it few days a go).
So now I have normal plan like I would buy it directly from tmobile and what's better for £25 I have:
900min
600txt
3gb internet
Booster
Desire HD

Same here (got it on the same day as well)! But I have the $30 unlimited smartphone plan from my old iPhone. Now the cost actually seems worth it since I am getting pretty decent H+ speeds.
I just hope Samsung keeps the updates coming for this phone. There seems to be a lot of interest since they got over 3 million preorders (http://www.electronista.com/articles/11/05/08/samsung.galaxy.s.ii.at.3m.pre.orders.by.may). I showed a few of my friends and they are going to get it when it comes out here in the US.
I'm still pulling the same H+ speeds I was getting on my 2GB smartphone plan. All the AT&T guys were like little kids looking at the phone. Had 6 employees gathered around.
Using it on Att still using my unlimited data for $15. Loving the phone so far, excellent speed data and phone performance.

Purchased for $756 from Clove UK.
Yip, getting H+ and loving it! Though in northern California (Bayarea), its a bit spotty, but loving it nonetheless. More so loving the non AT&T tainted or touched device. No issues so far, I wonder how the international updates are going to affect us.
You lucky SOBs. Still wondering if I should hold out for Samsung tab. So tempting.

I purchased though Handtec May 2nd via Google Checkout payment for $748 I believe. Had clearance/FCC paper that needed to be filled out with FeDex, but still received the device on the 5th of May. Happy with both Handtec (first time ordering with them), and FeDex considering the logistics involved.
I usually order my devices from negrielectronics.com, who have great service as well. No issues getting my Nexus S with NAM 3G band from them. Fast, and on time as well, Handtec just had the SGSII a week early.

Just order from handtec for the same cost with paypal. Awaiting for their shipping notice now.
@buddylee, I remember you when I purchase my X1, you always get the new phone so quickly.
I should be getting mine tomorrow, a day late, because they didn't have the FCC forms for customs clearance. I had to call FedEx like 5 times in order to get the form through haha. Ended up faxing it to someone, they called an hour or two later and said I would get it tomorrow.
My only concern is: What is the phone has defects? How will I have to do to return it?
Would I have to find an individual living in the UK to exchange it for a new one for me?
I'm coming from T-Mobile and their plague on humanity, the G2X. Truthfully, LG should stick to TVs but that's another story. I ordered my SGS2 from Cleverboxes and it's shipping tomorrow via NCS (whatever that means). My remorse period for the G2X is up on 5/19 so I'm getting an Inspire on 5/15 to establish service for the SGS2 on AT&T. I should be able to make a couple of hundred dollars selling a new Inspire on eBay to help offset some of the cost of the SGS2. The SIM will never have been used so the SGS2's IMEI will be what's registered with AT&T when I activate it (assuming their process is the same as T-Mobile's).
Part of what screwed up the G2X is all the T-Mobile crapware that's installed on what's supposed to be a vanilla Google phone. I'm glad to pay the extra money for an unbranded SGS2 just not to have to deal with carrier software, OS modifications, and dependency on them for updates. I also checked and the Samsung warranty is valid since it's a UK phone purchased in the UK. It can even be serviced in the U.S. under their global warranty program. That's something to consider for those of you buying overseas products and getting invoices from a company here in the U.S.
I can't wait for it to get here and be rid of T-Mobile and to have a high quality phone again. I was thinking of getting a Sensation on T-Mobile when it comes out 6/8 but the whole G2X debacle did me in.
I will never get a device from my carrier even with a discount. I am more happy with my device paying full price and without all the carrier bloatware and/or hardware removal!

This is the blueprint
1. Drop your text plan and switch over to google voice (optional)
2. Call up att and tell them you have a device you want to activate on your account with your sim. They will ask what phone it is, lie and say razr or some **** like that ... they will add it on for you then you will lose your smartphone data.
3. The rep will ask if you wish to optionally add the dataplan for non smartphones, you can add it then for $15 unlimited data.
I burn through about 15gb a month

The reason they don't need to be on the networks system is, the phone supplied through p4u, cpw, etc are often SIM free. So effectively your network contract might as well be SIM only. All the reseller needs is a price for the phone and an agreed commission for selling plans at particular prices and then they can start taking pre-orders. The bonus is no network branding, which can range from acceptable to dreadful.

No I don't get cash back I'm afraid. This is an orange contract but they're giving me 2 orange swappables. Best value UK Microsim for 3g Nexus?

Hi,
I'm totally new to all this, but would like my Nexus to have the ability to work on 3g. I'd like to be able to send emails and surf the web, so ~200mb would suffice a month at a push. What are the best UK providers for this? Do you have such a thing as Pay as You Go for Data plans or are they a rip off?
I'd also be interested in the SMS side of things potentially and in an ideal world, I'd like a second sim from my current provider (Orange) for my existing number to allow that. That would "ideally" let me pick up sms messages as well as my emails on my tablet. To be honest its rare I actually make a voice call these days.
Thanks and apologies if this has been asked multiple times or if its bleedin' simplistic.
PS...oh and do any providers prevent you from using their "voice and data" plans on a tablet, because - for instance - it would make much more sense to buy a £10 a month vox, sms and 1gb data plan from giff gaff, than their £7.50 a month 1gb data plan.
I ordered a pay as you go sim from Amazon (with the 3 network). This is preloaded with 3GB of data that expires after 3 months at a cost of £10.70 for the sim.
I'm on the GiffGaff 3gb data only sim, no sms or calls of course. l've not found a better price for1gb than their £7.50 but look at the voice/data goodybags to see if one suits you.
T-Mobile PAYG offers a great deal
Buy a PAYG Microsim add £20
Text 6 Month web to 441
£20 gives you net access for 6 months, there is a notional limit of 750mb a month for streaming/torrents but all other services are totally unlimited even when you hit the 750mb for streaming/torrents you just get throttled on the streaming/torrents. Never affects Web/Email/ etc
I have used one in my iPad for the past couple of years and just got one for the Nexus, works great
IF you have access to an iPhone 4 or 4S you can get it even cheaper if you are prepared to jump through hoops
Buy PAYG Sim for £10 (With £10 credit from T-Mobile Online), when it arrives put it in iPhone 4 or 4S to activate it and text FREE 12 MONTH WEB to 441, wait a couple of hours for the reply text saying its activated you can then take it out and use it in your Nexus 7 and still get the free 12 Months Internet (Same limits as above).

I am quite tempted by the Talk Talk offer, as it looks like it will also work with SMS (and voice if people figure out how to do that).
So all I do is order a preloaded simcard from http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/sim-card-only/ (I was thinking I might as well get the combi sim as it seems to be the same cost and I could "theoretically" use it in my normal phone if I need to).
I dont buy any other options and wait for it to arrive.
When it arrives, I grovel to my fiancee's son and ask to use his iphone 4S for a couple of hours. Then pop in the new sim, text that SMS, wait until a text is sent back. Pop it in my Nexus and I get 12 months worth of free internet for sod all? How are they making any money out of this?
I've just ordered a giffgaff combined sim card as they are free and I can use that if the iphone text offer expires before I get my mitts on the T-Mobile sim

2: It takes 48 hours for the free credit to add, but if you phone customer services as soon as the sim arrives and say the £10 credit is missing they will manually add it, then after 48 hours the other £10 will add so you get £20 credit
Once your free year is up you can add the 6MONTHWEB using the £20 credit you have,
So a total of 18Months Internet Access and you are still £5 in profit taking the cashback into account
Depends on how many hoops you want to jump through for a few extra quid saving.
I have had a few of these now for varius devices and they are great, never once had any problems with them..
It looks like quidco is now offering "only" £7.50 cashback on sims, but that still makes it almost free.
I'll order one now...the iphone one. Thanks.

Don't Worry it will track at £15 once the order goes through
Quidco Screengrab below
Thanks again all.
I've ordered a free giff gaff sim and paid for the T-mobile sim. I "think" the quidco deal is no more, but I ordered it via there anyways as it doesnt hurt.
Hopefully this thread will also help anyone else in a similar situation.
Hi all
With my N7 3G I'm using a free service (in exchange for watching ads) called Samba.
Very happy with it so far.
Quoting myself...
Hi all
If you are in the UK and thinking of getting a Nexus 7 3G the following service might be of interest to you.
The company is called Samba Mobile and provides mobile broadband in exchange for "watching" ads.
Edit: Just to clarify, you can watch the ads whenever, from any computer/tablet/phone..., to accumulate credit.
It's not a service that interrupts your browsing in order to make you watch an ad.
By the way, I'm not a Samba employee.
Why pay for mobile broadband?
Buy a SIM for £5, or a dongle & SIM for £25, and never pay for broadband on the go again.
Samba is the smart way to get connected – we give you free internet and in return you select and watch high quality adverts. You choose what to watch and when to watch it.
Samba is available for 3G tablet & laptop owners and we use the best mobile data network (Three) in the UK.

I have been a Samba user for less than 2 weeks and I've already clocked up 650mb of "credit". :victory:
For more info please click here.
To get the SIM for £2.50 (vs £5.00) or a 10% discount on the dongle+SIM package please click here.
The last link is a "Refer a friend" one, so I would get £2.50 if you do subscribe through it.
I'll remove it if it is against forum rules.

Wouldn't it be best paying £12 for unlimited internet texts and 250 minutes from giffgaff, and like not use the minutes and texts? Or you could put it in your phone for an emergency? Or use giffgaff as your main provider and tether so there's no extra charge?

Technically its a breach of GiffGaff rules, iPads/Tablets are excluded from use with the Voice/Data packages, although a lot of people do it, they are supossed to be tightening up and blocking this type of use and unauthorised tethering as well, although only time will tell.
Orange SIM option
Another option for low data users is this Orange SIM with £5 credit for 99p.
It's only 240mb per month but lasts 12 months. I've yet to use the data from it but others have reported success in their Nexus 7. I simply put the SIM in the N7 (in my case, the very first time I switched it on) and shortly after I received a message on it that the SIM was now active. I haven't even had to activate the free £5 credit as yet, though I'm going to of course.
There doesn't appear to be any downside (assuming your data use is low enough) unless anyone knows better. I only intend using the 3G very sparingly when out and about so I hope that it will be enough for me. If not, I try a SIM with a larger allowance.
Go to ovivomobile.com, order a £10 data sim and get 500mb of data per month without ever having to top up. I have been using them for the last 2 months without any problems.

So, genuinely 500mb per month "for life"* for a one-off £10? Not bad if 240mb on Orange isn't enough.
*Where "life" means as long as they decide or as long as the company survives.

It does seem to good to be true, but has been working fine for me. They also do similar with minutes and texts. They use the Vodafone network and you can buy top up packs if you need them.
Edit: I also use one in my back up phone and get 100 mins, 100 texts and 300 mb of data every month just for the price of the sim card.

I'm getting one right away. Can I move seamlessly between the tablet and phone plan?

Yes. You just log into your account and fill out a short form requesting a switch.

I ordered a pay as you go sim from Amazon (with the 3 network). This is preloaded with 3GB of data that expires after 3 months at a cost of £10.70 for the sim.
