I have the evo shift and I found a way to get full perm root. ok first off get z4root installed. Rum a temp root after that install vizonary. Restart ur phone after u install vizonary. After re boot run vizonary and run temp root. Make sure ur phone gets temp rootes by vizonary before u do this next step.
After u get temp root working do the perm root. I'm not sure how but I got perm root on my phone I know this cause after rebooting I'm still able to run super powe and wifi tether. Now download rom manager. Use it to install clock work. After installing reboot via rom manager into recvery to make sure it took.
If it took guess what? Ur almost done! Download the rom u wana use and install like usual I am running nfx deoxed with no probs.
I will toucb up on this later

Its nice that it works that way for people, but S-Off is a must have for me personally, so I'm glad I rooted the long way.

Well it took me longer to actually download everything than it did to actually root the phone. This was my first root (came from BlackBerry) and I was surprised how smooth it went.

+1 I came from a Palm Pre, so it didn't really need to be rooted at all, but this was totally fine
My first root was the htc evo like the day froyo was rootable so to me that was a nightmare trying to get everything to work right

Rocking CM7 On My HTC Evo Shift Thanks To Toastcfh!!
this is mostly for people who are having probs rooting the long way. I tried the long way and ran into some compatibility issues some where. I find that this works perfect. I cam from a htc hero so i know all about rooting and adb and so on. This unlocks every thing and it runs smooth. I am running nfx hero for now odex with my method. Sad part is i cracked my screen last night......OMFG
That's what you get for not doing it the right/long way! You weakened the screen!! Shame on you!!!

If you are okay with losing 4g then it shouldn't be a problem.
Swyped from my HTC EVO 4G via xda app
Ok, things you need to know:
1.rooting your phone will void your warranty.
if you ever do a warranty exchange with sprint, your phone needs to be "UN"-rooted.
2.about your contacts , download a backup app from the market, i prefer mybackuppro. Just in case something goes wrong, which is rare.
3.YOU will be able to delete those annoying stock apps and free up memorie with root explorer .
Good luck!!!!!!

Nahh... seriously? No 4g at all when simply just rooted, stock. No Rom? I thought some of the roms were doing that but not just simply rooting it.. I dunno about ur simplistic statement there buddy. Some clarification plze?

I've had my phone rooted since shortly after they were released and I have flashed all kinds of half working bootleg ROMs/hacks, my 4G still works perfectly.
There are some who manage to hose their 4G their first try though, I don't see how though since mine still works after all the stuff I've done to it. I've also never used Unrevoked to root either though.
I thought that using clockwork took away 4g. Is this not correct? And btw I apologize, I thought that it makes your 4g keep saying scanning (it does that to me in a 4g area and says unknown in my 4g info in about phone)

If you root it the wrong way, your device will self destruct in 10 seconds. I lost one good eyebrow and half of the other one that way.

Hey thanks.. well nothing erased of my contacts.. and with the voiding the waranty.. my brother works in sprint.. so hopefully.. if something does go bad well maybe he can do something. well i already rooted the phone. everything went fine.. and how would u UNROOT THE PHONE?
Your 4G WILL BE FINE!!!! Really think we would have such an active community if rooting killed one of the main selling points of the Evo?
Just follow root instructions exactly, dont flash a different recovery if you have 2.02 hboot, and you will be just fine.

Video to UNroot I've done it, it works fine. The biggest thing is making sure it says S-OFF on the bootload screen when you power on while holding the down volume button.
Now you'll want to put a different ROM on it, since stock rooted will land you random force closes and such. First, do a NANDROID backup by booting into recovery and doing a backup. I personally copied my backup to my laptop just in case I loose or break the SD card. A nandroid backup is like a "snapshot" of the way your phone is right now. It'll save everything including contacts, kernels, the current ROM you're on, the apps, Data, etc. Literally everything.
Now check out some different roms!
The most popular right now is Cyanogen 6, MIUI, and Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo. I'm using Myn's because it still contains 4G. Myn's is a sense based ROM and most sense based ROMS retain 4G. Cyanogen and MIUI are both AOSP based, basically meaning they're built from the ground up and are way different than your stock ROM. Cyanogen just figured out the encoding for 4G so very soon they will release a 4G version, then MIUI and the rest will follow once he releases the encoding.
Hope this helps!
4g works on Myn TwoPointTwo also. Am I wrong?

Have you just started watching the cell phone industry? If you have here is lesson #1. Updates usually come after about 3-4 delays and 6 months after they are suppost to Now you will save yourself alot of waiting. And go download the final thats been in the dev forums for over 2 months.

Yeah I Agree, why worry about a 2.1 sense ROM when we have a 3.0 ROM that is probably better than anything HTC would give us anyway

So, since you guys cannot root at this moment, I thought, why not make a thread about what exactly you are going to flash the instant you get root? So here it is. Be specific, down to the last mhz and themes...
I know once I get root, I'll flash CM7 with the Synergy theme on the market and the Tiamat kernel...

Patience fellas that's all it takes is patience, soon there will be root for 2.3.3.
I will jump in...
As soon as it happened.. I have 3 guys at work that bug me 2x a day for me to root their phones.
I will start with one and work my way around the store.
I want my kingdom Rom back so bad its been like 2 months from the time I had root and that Rom was just getin good so I know it has to be perfict now
Kush Deck, whatever the latest release is (I don't torture myself keeping up with the thread right now), and the Tiamat 3.3.7 SBC kernel.
Then I will breathe a heady sigh of relief, make a nandroid backup to use as a daily driver, and start looking for the latest and greatest of everything and start my old flashing ways again.
Synergy will be my first choice. I liked all the betas, but then started having heat related reboots, went into sprint and the rest is history including my ability to root...
I was using VR Kingdom so I would definitely try synergy and Kings shooter port.....urghhh I hate not being rooted!

new to the game, i was originally rooted with unrevoked but with the upgrade to gingerbread i had to unroot and lost everything. just tried to run revolutionary.exe every thing runs fine until I say yes to internet update, it starts then stops due to error.
