Ive lost my 3g signal completely, any ideas? - Epic 4G General

Hey there, I an not sure if this has happened to anyone else, but my 3g has completely stopped functioning. 4g and wifi work perfectly, but I am unable to get 3g to toggle on at any time. If I turn off wifi or 4g, there is simply no 3g symbol next to my signal indicator. Data simply stops. I have shut down my phone via power button and battery pull, many times... Nothing works.
I am stock EB13 , but rooted with one click w/CWM v2.5.5, and have only Odin flashed DK28 a couple months ago, and EB13 via Samsung exe.
Any ideas? Suggestions?

This happened to me today! I have no ideal why though? What I did to fix it was just wipe everything and flash again. Also you could update the Profile & PRL

3G stops switching back after wifi?

This is a strange one. I have been using Fresh Evo 3.2.0.0 rom for almost a month and it works great. I wanted to try another rom so I tried the VirusRom... it was good but I liked Fresh better. So reflashed my Nandroid image and all was well.
But then I started seeing a lot of failed connections to the market and noticed that my 3G was not connecting. I live in Chicago so I am fully covered by 3G in this area, and even 4G in many spots. Usually when I leave a wifi area, the phone switches back to 3G almost instantly. But ever since nandroiding back to the Fresh Evo 3.2.0.0 rom, it only works after a reboot. As soon as I hit a wifi zone and then lose it, 3G doesn't switch back on.
4G and Wifi both work, but if I disable both wifi and 4g.. 3g doesn't come back without a reboot.
I've even switched off the Mobile network using the widget and the power button menu.. no luck. Only a reboot brings it back.
So then I even did the trick to get my PRI up to 1.40 and that worked fine. But no change in the behavior of 3G. When I reboot and 3G is working, it works great as usual. Just not sure why the switching no longer works. I even tried switching back to the rooted sprint stock rom.. same deal.
Anyone else having any issues?

yes, I have noticed this at times. Just happened to me. Failed connection when switching off 4g to 3g. Using fresh 3.2. But I noticed this as well on other roms. I had to reboot each time to get 3g working again. I also reset my data connection last night but it obviously didnt work.
I've been having issues with my 3G for the past two days. Similar story, I did and Nand restore and that is when it started.
I am getting an error code 67 everytime I switch from Wifi, 4G or even when I reboot to try and fix this. Usually if I let it sit it will come back, but the error message popping up is quite annoying.
Wish I had something more helpful to say, but I can just add that I'm having the same problems switching from wifi to 3g. Even after 3g turns on it will sometimes turn off again randomly and I will have no connection. I'm also running fresh. In addition my 3g signals are quite week. kinda a mess...
Weird. My phone did this today for the first time. The thing is, I've been on Fresh 3.2 for a month now, and I flashed the latest Baked Snack rom yesterday to test it out. It never did it while I was on Fresh, but today after turning off WiFi, it wouldn't connect to 3G for anything. No text or data transfer at all. After I rebooted it, it started working again, but my phone never did this while I was on Fresh.
I am having the same problem and I am using Fresh 3.2 as well. I did go to a different rom but then went back to Fresh's rom and that is when it starting happening to me. It will only pick up 3g now and then and even when it does my speed is super slow. Hoping someone comes up with a fix as I made my own post but no one seems to feel the need to reply to it.
Theories...
Same here. I'm on Baked Snack 1.7x
I know Fresh and Hero both use some of the same components. I flashed to Cyano and have had no problems with the 3G radio. It's very snappy switching on and off after wifi connects and disconnects.
I do know there have been one or two issues with the radio with people who are on the 3.28.651.x roms. (for instance, if you enable 4G then disable, sometimes it randomly turns off and on without you knowing until you restart)
So my guess is maybe the 3.28.651.x series is glitchy. You guys want to try going back to 3.26.651.6 and do some testing?
happened to me on stock. Had to reboot the phone to fix it.
This seems to be working for me today with no problems so far. I am wondering if a tower was down with Sprint putting up the 4g around my city. Will keep posted if it happens again but seems to be running like normal now.
This has to be network issues maybe the latest PRL.
Mine has did the same last couple days also on power on , it takes longer for 3G icon to kick in.
Signal flux has been occurring more then norm fast download - Upload speeds taking hit some parts of the day.

I am on 3.26.651.6 build and this was happening. I am no longer having any problems with this. I do feel this might have been a problem Sprint's servers were having. Seems like everyone started having the problem right around the same time.
It must be... Going to an older PRL didn't help, and there are a bunch of forum topics being created about this on other forums as well. Guess it's time to play the waiting game.
My issue is so bad right now even if I restart my phone, it doesn't even get data connection right away. 10 minutes waiting now and error code 67's keep popping up.
This just happened to me today. It took me awhile to connect the error statement to the fact the 3g didn't turn on after I turned off wifi. But I was able to press the 'data connection' button on the switchpro widget to turn 3g back on.

That is how I got it working a little bit last evening but as I said in my last statement it is finally working and has been all day. Not sure what the deal actually was as I did not change anything since 2 evenings ago. I am thinking that Sprint is doing something which is messing everyone up at one point or another.

[Q] 4g Radio not turning on

Hey everyone! I have been having a problem with my Samsung Epic. I am in NYC and recently they have turned on the 4G within the city limits. It was working great last week and I was getting a decent 4G connection (8down, 4up). Now yesterday When I went to activate the 4G radio on my phone it wasn't turning on. The 4G button stays grey and it says its turning on but it never turns green. When I go into the 4G settings its grayed out but its says "turning on..." 3g stays connected during this. Wifi works when I turn that on, but I notice back in the 4g settings menu 4g still says "Turning on".. it doesn't even time out. It completely killed my battery after 20 mins.
I tried a factory reset.. didn't work... Tried the Odin full reset (stock everything).. No dice. I never rooted the phone or did anything to it except install Juice Defender (which cause a whole bunch of problems). Has anyone else had this problem? I am within my 30days so i'm thinking of exchanging my phone.. any ideas??? Thanks in advance!!!
I'm having the same problem

I had the same problem, get to a sprint store and get your phone replaced. I'm guessing it is a radio problem. May be fixable if the sprint techs actually did something more then just resetting to stock.
Flash the DG27 radio then upgrade to DI07 again. Could also force your phone to re-provision itself.
http://firon.net/xda/modem.d700.tar here's the modem, flash it with Odin as Phone.
This is a longshot, but I've been messing around with a few settings menu and I saw an interesting WiMAX setting.
Goto the dialer, input ##3282#.
Goto WiMAX, enter your MSL code. (find your MSL code by opening an adb shell to your device, use the command "getprop" once in the shell, scroll up and look for a line that says "[ril.MSL]: [??????]")
See what it says under ACTIVATED and REALM, should say "ACTIVATED:TRUE" and "REALM:sprintpcs.com", respectively. If it doesn't that might be where your problem is. Tell a level 2 sprint tech.
Next, try to goto WORK MODE, in there you can set your work mode, mine is at 2 and 4G is working fine, I wish I could tell you what work mode 0,1, & 3 did differently, but I can't locate much info on the net. I'll update this if I find out later...
Hope this can be of some help to you.
My phone is doing the same thing. I don't live in a 4g area yet but I would like to be able to use it when I travel. If there is no 4g service, should the 4g still turn green?

I spontaneously lose all reception - switching flight mode on/off fixes this

This happens many many times per day. many times per hour even. my Vibrant keeps losing reception spontaneously. however the following always fixes it and gives me full reception again: switching flight mode on and then off.
my carrier is Wind Mobile in Canada. they're new and are known to have call quality issues. I'm wondering is the problem simply my carrier experiencing over-capacity or is there something wrong with my phone?
I was having an issue similar to this on T-Mobile in Florida. I would still have data but would lose text and voice. I asked about it in the TW chat room and Stumpy suggested a Odin back to JFD and check the Clear EFS Phone box, this seems to have fixed my problem as I have not had the problem again since doing this. Perhaps you could try that and see if it helps. I flashed via Odin to JFD and checked the Clear EFS Phone box, then used Kies to upgrade to KA6. So far that problem has not occurred again.,
Which rom are you guys using? This happens to me a lot too. I mean I can pinpoint when it happens too. It only seems to happen when I have the phone in 3G only, but if I enable 2G and 3G swapping then it's fine. The radio seems to have a problem re-establishing a 3G signal which means that everyday on the way to work and the way home when I pass Anaheim I need to reboot. Annoying.
I'm using Bionix-V currently.

Currently, my phone has been updated from JI6 to KA6 (Froyo) using Kies Mini, then rooted using SuperOneClick, then flashed to KA7 Voodoo Kernal using Odin.
Should I take any steps before flashing back to JFD? or do I simply begin by following the instructions here.
EDIT: got the upgrade/flash steps wrong
happens to me too. have to reconnect just to have data.

Just don't forget to disable Voodoo first. Make a file called disable-lagfix in the /voodoo/ folder of your internal sd card. Then reboot and your filesystem will be converted back to the scrap samsung uses.

This happens to me only when near a particular cell tower. I'll be right next to the tower and its been like this for the past two years, regardless of phone. I guess their network switch or whatever they use in those things is flaky.
The tower next to my house has not once yet had a connection problem.
UPDATE: got a new SIM card. everything is perfect.
i am having same problem, i tried new modem and new rom but phone still keep switching to flight mode and cause me to lose all signal. i guess I will get new sim card as well. thank you!
Getting a new sim card sometimes solves the issue, but other times, trying different modems is helpful. Ive been on KB5, KA7, JL4, and currently on KB1.
KA7 had consitent signal, but text messages took a long time to send through.
JL4 barely gave me signal. and KB5 was laggy. Well see how KB1 works.
What rom are you running? This used to happen all the time when I used D9

4G and EB13

My 4G is strong at home and at work and after installing EB13 and then updating my PRL it came up fine and ran very strong (was downloading at 1-1.2 meg per second). However, tonight it dropped and cannot reconnect. This has been going on for hours. The same thing happened when I went to DK28 and it suddenly started working again even though there were no outages in my area.
Anyone else have trouble with this?

No issue with 4G...after update and PRL update (I update monthly) I am getting 1 more bar of service (3G). It honestly didn't change anything on 3G side as my phone is only limited by the walls of the structure. Works with 0 bars though. 4G is unchanged.
All today 4G wasn't connecting anywhere. I thought it was a network problem but rebooted the phone and that fixed it. First time that's ever happened. BTW I'm still running DI18, not the new Froyo.
I was using 4G at work to get Pandora working and my 4G disconnected. It wouldn't reconnect until about an hour later. Quite annoying.

4G and 3G have been poky or timing out this week so I suspect their network is saturated with the crappy EB13 OTA updates.

Vibrant randomly loses cell signal ( No network)

Hey guys,
My Vibrant is losing cell signal on its own. It happens randomly like once every couple days. I tried switching to Airplane mode but then I can't switch back to normal mode. This happened on stock, Trigger and Biwinning ROMs.
I have tried reseating the sim card but it still happens. I have also tried in GSM only and GSM and WCDMA mode but that doesn't help either.
The only fix that works is take out the battery and put it back in again. Does this mean I have a bad phone or is there something that can be done?
Are u wiping between flashes??
This has been happening to me on the stock Odin 2.2 build. Think it's the newer KB5 build. Samsung is so full of fail.

Oh I get that too, but I don't think the thread is talking about just data dropping. I woke up this morning to a completely disconnected phone. Not receiving calls. Not receiving texts (not that I ever get any). Nothing. No SIM card found. This after the phone was working perfectly the night before. Nothing changed.
It's really strange. Might try flashing another modem...would that help the SIM card not being recognized?
Thanks guys, I just tried Odin format repartition>KB5 stock and still got the error.
Now it's either the bad sim, kb5 sucks or my phone has a problem. I'm getting a new sim tomorrow

My phone went from 3G to EDGE to nothing in about an hour and I restarted the thing 2-3 times and nothing happened. When I finally went to work which is 15 miles away I had full signal no problem. Perhaps it's a network thing?

Thanks but I don't think its network, I get the same problem in Chicago as well. Also my wife's vibrant shows full signal. We traded sim cards and I still see the issue so its NOT sim card either. Now its narrowed down to:
1) KB-5 modem
2) Phone itself
I am still checking and will update the post

I'll Answer your choice....its choice 1) KB5 Modem. This modem is terrible i been using it on 3 different roms and while on this modem my data would freeze/stop randomly really noticeable on downloads and browser. I would be on the browser searching a page and all of a sudden it would not load anymore it would stop. I recently switched back to KB1 and my issues are solved no more data stops/drops. KB5 is really good on GPS but the data is horrible with the freezes/stops. Hope i helped you choose better. Stay away from KB5 if you notice browser loading stopping.

Today I got the signal error on kb1. Sadly this seems to be a hardware issue with my phone. I also checked to see what my baseband version shows and it shows "unknown"
Then I checked my IMEI and I got "your imei is "" "
So yeah that sucks. The only way to get signal back is take out battery and put it back in.

I did, still the same issue...
I thought it was just me. It was horrible about 2 weeks ago. 2 different modems different solve the problem so I was convinced it was a network problem. I waited it out and they seemed to have fixed it. Instead if an x most of the day I have 1 or 2 bars of edge like before lol
Haven't noticed problems on KA6, but I haven't been using it heavily. (Switching between Vibrant and HD7)
Might be worth a try.
Edit: Also, have you tried Bionix? I know that the same phone never had any problems on 1.3.1. Think it has KB1 though, so it may not make a difference for you.

Thanks guys, I did try Bionix nextgen which I believe is KA6 and didn't see the problem but again its just been 12 hours so far. I bought a dead vibrant with broken screen and just replaced the sim assembly. Let's see if that fixes the problem...
You're not alone. I have the same problem and I've flashed every modem I available. Sometimes I lose cell signal but not often. The data signal is what's spotty for me.
Thanks Blown89.
So when I lose signal, I tried checking IMEI *#06# and I get "null/null" and yes my efs is fine. Once I take out the battery and turn on the phone, it starts to work fine. Tried all software resets...
Any ideas?
