Help required - downgrade from Gingerbread - Galaxy S I9000 General

Just go into Download Mode and flash via Odin (pc) a Froyo stock firmware like JS7....or better JS5 3 files + pit 512 + repartition enabled!
Sent from my SGS with Simply 2.5 ROM

i was told that we have to first install the stock ecliar and then install froyo on it also that the rom should have 3 files modem, csc and pda is that correct?

You can simply download from samfirmware.com the 3 files version of froyo JS5 and flash it with pit 512 and repartition....
I did that many times and it has worked well (downgrading from ginger)....
So the 3 files are needed!
Good flashing! XD

install darky rom from recovery 9.3
All izz well
hope this is correct

Hi,
I also need help downgrading from 2.3.2.
I successfully downgraded to Froyo but now I can't restore my Contacts/SMS data with Titanium backup pro.
It restores but then I get a bunch of errors and FCs and I can no longer open my SMS/Contacts app.
Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?
Thanks

this is not possible
You can't restore your contacts/sms database from a gingerbread rom to a froyo rom and vice versa. They are not compatible and it will corrupt your system so you can't use contacts anymore.
You better use a synchronising app where you can sync your contacts and maybe sms to an external service.

To save you the headache next time do this:
1) For SMS use SMS backup and restore from market.
2) Save you contacts to your SD card (external). The phone has that function built in contact-import/export-export to SD card.
As marcelser mentioned above, titanium is only good between same version firmwares for system files.

I have garbled screen at boot and been looking for 3 file firmware at samimfirmware, but cannot find one - they all are 1 file rar?
Which 2.2 firmware should I flash to get bootloader fixed and where can i get it from?
Or should I extract modem, zimage and csc from that rar that i got from samifirmware and flash that?
Will it update my bootloader if I do it that way?
Thx, sason

I just flashed bootloader only and kept my fingers crossed, so that connection does not fail when flashing
I got it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12545932&postcount=5609

You should flash the JPU 2.2.1 from Samfirmware.com because it has the froyo bootloader and is a 3-file repartition as well.

So i have probably flashed my phone around twenty times, and each time something goes wrong or doesnt work, i have to use Odin and flash back to stock, do the JI6 update, install OCLF, root it, flash clockwork recovery, then try and flash another rom.
My concern is that it takes forever to do his process everytime. Is there an easier way to do this? Do you need to have JI6 before flashing a 2. 2 rom? Do you need root to install a custom rom? Or can you just copy over clockworm recovery to sd? Any info will help, thanks.

I've flashed my phone with every rom I could find. I was using ClockworkMod Recovery to do my flashing and never had a problem. but if you flash a 2.2 rom.... you can't go back to 2.1
Unless you open Odin and have your phone set to Download mode.
Use these files and click START

I had to use this 4 times. It works.

yeah ...
I have no clue how you could be having this much trouble... are you following the guides?
First off you don't need to wait for the ji6 / flash the ji6 update to get to froyo. 2nd, why are you bothering with the lag fix before getting on the rom you want to run daily? Try to keep your flashes clean. By this I mean once you're odin'd back to stock, just flash 2.2, so there's no weird mods messing things up for you. If you're finding things wrong every time you have to eliminate as many variables as you can that could potentially cause something to go wrong. If you flash straight from stock, you're only variables will be within the 2.2 ROM you're flashing. Hope this helps. It's definitely worth it to get on one of the froyo roms in these forums, I recommend Axura, no problems at all and there's an even newer release than I'm running so it might be even better.
I did a backup with 2.1 update1 stock. Then flashed to 2.2 Obsidian V4.
That's my first flash and I only got the phone for two weeks. So apparently
I was still in learning mode. I did not backup my contacts as I thought
I could easily go back to 2.1 just as if having a dual bootable linux box.
However, after restoring to 2.1, the phone did not boot. It appears that I
have to use ODIN to bring it back. But my concern is I will lose my contacts
once 2.1 is back. So my questions are:
1. if I use odin, will I lose my contacts?
2. is there any other way to let the phone boot?
3. Not sure if my case falls into the category that flash to 2.2 then cannot
go back to 2.1 unless odin is used.
Sorry for asking so many questions.
Many thanks in advance.

Ok i'm confused on how you will lose contacts.
When you add contacts to your phone are you choosing "google" as the place to add it? If you choose "phone" then you will lose contacts as data is wiped.
But always choose "google", then all of your contacts will be synced and stored to googles servers. Then once you add your google account after you flash your rom all of your contacts will be synced right back to your phone..... this is what I do and I always have my contacts no matter what
install check list
OCLF (Root only)
Rom Manager (clockwork recovery + Rom Installer)
thats all you need really for quick installs.
I did my first rom install about a week ago, since then i've flashed 4 different ones, havent had any issues. i tend to stick to installs that can be installed via clock work, Used odin 1 time that was because OTA JI6 broke me.
Obsidian V4 is unstable and was pulled from the public download page for revisions try V3 or Onyx R3.1
as for contacts, you don't have them synced Via gmail or atleast backed up on your sim?
Just so everyone knows there is a stock 2.2 for use with ODIN. No need to go back to stock 2.1 then up to 2.2 again. The 2.2 for ODIN is pre-rooted. I have done this twice now with no problems. Haven't needed One Click Root/Unroot since we got 2.2
It might be a little late to know this. But to be honest, I do not really buy into
the concept of putting everything in google's hand. That's why I chose to
save in the phone other than google.
I thought that by backing up the current ROM (2.1 update1 in my case),
I should be able to restore back to it whenever I want to.
Am I doomed? Really hate to shoot everybody an email asking for their
numbers. And worse, some of them don't have email since they are old

so far obsidian v4 has not given me any trouble, but I will give V3 a try later

As for contacts, I did not take it too seriously when I flashed to 2.2.
But now I realize it's a lot hassle to get all numbers back if I can remember

Thanks for all the replies but to be clear all my custom flashed roms flash successfully. Nothing wrong with flashing, just doing advanced stuff like testing eugenes kernels with other roms. If something goes wrong then i have to start over. I was just wondering if we can go from stock to 2. 2 which i know now we can. Do you need root to do this or can you just copy the update. Zip of the clockwork recovery to sd and get into it from stock recovery to flash the new rom

Eugene's froyo unbricked me! Issues still!

ok so i got some help from you guys on fixing my phone after the VooDoo crash. i flashed Eugene's froyo 2.2 and the phone is ALIVE!! one major problem i am seeing is i have no application storage now! i cannot download any apps, when i go to manage apps i have a ton of weird apps installed and i can't uninstall anything. how can i fix this??
Root explorer
V5 custom vibrant
root explorer? whats this?
An app from the market which gives you access to all the files on the phone and the abort ability top delete them
V5 custom vibrant
hmm, but i have zero storage, i cannot download any apps. i get a message saying i have no storage left
Go to the market and push downloads then delete some of the apps you have already maybe that will give you enough room
V5 custom vibrant
i just fixed the phone and got it running, i have not downloaded any apps.
Did you repartition when you odined also the apps usually go off of your google account sign in to the market and your apps should come up from before what ever you had paid for should be available
V5 custom vibrant
Anyway to post any pix of these strange apps your talking about?
V5 custom vibrant
did not repartition, should i?
oh and no i don't know how to send a screen shot of the applications. but they are only in the manage apps section, i can't see the apps on the phone but they are there in the manage section
Dude have odined back to stock yet are you still on eugenes froyo ?you have go back to 2.1 its a pit file and jfd file you can find then on this site
V5 custom vibrant
yeah i have tried to go back to stock after the froyo flash but i end up with the blank screen after the galaxy S logo. the phone only works with the froyo flash installed.
Did you extract the pit file?
V5 custom vibrant
yeah both the 512 pit and jfd rar files are extracted, should i start over and reflash eugene's froyo? then flash the stock jfd file? if so when should i be repartitioning?
you dont extract the jfd file you were supposed to leave that how it was
ok my bad, the jfd file won't extract. i just realized this.
is it possible that the drivers are bad have you tried flashing another 2.2 rom then flashing back to stock?the only thing i can think of is try odin again click re partition and try to go to stock or try to flash another 2.2 rom then go back to stock if odin is set up correctly im not sure why its not working
another 2.2 rom? i had only heard about the eugene's fix for the voodoo brick that im experiencing. whatever i do i always get a blank screen after flashing unless i flass the froyo (rom?).
i'm going to try flashing eugene's froyo back in it without repartitioning then start odin back up and flash the old vj12 with partition selected and see what that does. i had a file called original from my last brick fix but am not sure what that was.

Samsung Galaxy S GT i9000m Recovery

Ok Fellas! just got my phone last night, rooted it installed the stock froyo JK4.
I come from htc desire so my recovery was bit different installed rom manager & got cloworkmod 2.5.1.2.
Downloaded a rom on phone, rebooted into recovery, but this recovery has purplish text instead of green & there is no install from SD. I cant think of any thing at the moment can some one please help, I wanna install some other rom, other than the stock froyo. PLEASE HELP.
You need to install clockwork revory if you go to the rom manager application there will be an option to flash clock recovery right at the top when you open the application hope this claers things up
yep i did sir, but still there is no option to install from sd, it only allows me to install as update.
from teh rom manager im selecting Galaxy S I9000 for clockwork recovery and it successfully downloads and when i press reboot into recovery its still takes me to the purple screen....i think this means that im not able to get into clockwork recovery any help.??
you have to select 'install update.zip' the first time, this will install clockworkmod and then you can proceed.
The problem is your using 3e recovery and cwm will not work with 3e.
To get 2e recovery you will have to use odin and flash a kernel that has 2e recovery, I suggest hardcores kernal as it comes with cwm already , from there you can install what ever custom rom you want using.the update.zip or installing zip from sd.

is to flash the kernel for Speedmod... you should see it in development forum... just flash that kernel with odin
and your recovery will work fine

There are a few things i could suggest.
1. Keep your flashing to a minimum if you have the i9000m. There is a high probability that your phone's memory card is defective and you'll ruin it by accessing it more often. Froyo broke lots of bell phones, and being a rom junky means more flash activity. I am on my second phone, but some people are up to their fifth. Flash a good stable rom and dont go too crazy flashing after that
2. download ODIN, and most 3rd party kernels have 2e i think (http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010/11/samsung-galaxy-s-download-speedmod.html) - pretty sure speedmod does. voodoo also does, all kernels can be found in the dev section easily
Just make sure you download the ODIN version of the kernel and not the CWM file, because since you dont have CWM already, you'll not be able to use it.
There is a problem with USB mounting your sd cards on your pc without patching, since you are running a stock 2.2, so you would need the patch unless you go to a 2.2.1 rom
3. 2.2.1 runs nicer than 2.2, but i havent flashed to a JPY because i am paranoid about my second i9000m dying before i get a backup phone . You may want to flash a jpy mod (like doc rambone's, or darky's), but if you have battery life problems flash a different modem, like the JK4 modem used in bell's latest official rom

Yeah, there are massive known problems with internal memory on these phones. I'm already on my second, and if i have more issues, i'll be buying the international i9000 from ncix.com. same phone, no internal memory problems.

Have not flashed a custom rom since my Xperia X1...now I am tempted for Galaxy S

I have not been tempted to flash my Galaxy S, and I got stuck into a rut of flashing my phone every other week when I owned my Xperia (Win Mobo).
I thought my Galaxy S was fine untill I tried the new Nexus S in a store and realised how much mine lagged..
Now I am really curious as the the increase in speed from custom roms, as my phone still lags evey now and again (especially opening emails etc).
My stock Firmware is on 2.2 JP3, which is the latest available via Kies for O2 UK.
I have checked my phone and the 3 buttom Installer mode thing works.
So what do you guys recommend?
Should I flash my phone? Or are there not much differences?
I was looking at Supercurio's Voodoo 5.2, which looks good, what do you think of it?
Is it as simple as the instructions suggest?
Update.zip method (recommended; computer not required):
1.Copy the Voodoo package as /sdcard/update.zip at the root of your SD Card.
2.Reboot into recovery using the 3 button combo for your phone or “adb reboot recovery”
3.Apply update.zip
4.Enjoy !
Would I need to do anything else?
Does flashing a custom rom prevent me from returning to stock?
All advice is welcome
You can also update to 2.2.1 which is miles ahead of 2.2. Lag is almost non-existant. I used kies registry patcher to allow me to update to 2.2.1 jpy. I used the product code XEU.
As for flashing kernal/rom you can use odin or cw recovery. For cwr you need to have recovery 2e not 3e as i suspect you currently have. I flashed cf root via odin to get 2e recovery on 2.2.1 jpy.
Personally i have flashed mine with doc's rom from the kitchen with the speedmod kernal. I was using voodoo for months but find speedmod a little smoother. Either way both are good and to be honest 2.2.1 barely needs any lagfixes. It flies as is. I like the custom kernals because they drastically improve sound with the voodoo app. Both speedmod and the voodoo kernals support this.
Go to the samfirmware site. It has all you need (firmwares, pit files and flash tools like odin). And yes, you can always download the original firmware and flash with odin and get back to stock.
Hope this helps

Does voodoo make full use of the 512meg of ram? is there message lag?

Hey where would you download android 2.2.1? some of the sites look suss
Like samfirmwares ???

sigh, ill have to register then? then again is there a way to root 2.2.1? my phone doesnt have the 3 button reboot recovery. So for 2.2 i installed z4root.apk from the internet on my phone to root it. would voodoo be better?
also as i asked before some websites say youll brick your phone if you dont uninstall anti lag programs before flashing, other websites dont mention it. What do you think?
Hey man, today while playing with my phone, i bricked it.... so i used odin3 v1.7 and flashed voodoo on my galaxy.
So far, voodoo has installed clockmod recovery and has headphone ampifiers. However i wouldnt say it was faster then android 2.2 with the oclf (one click lag fix). When i was using android + oclf my quadrant standrad score was around 1500 as is voodoo. I do notice less message lag though.
You might want to flash 2.2.1 from.samfirwares since you have odin. Then flash voodoo and apply lagfix. Always remove lagfix before flashing firmwares unless the new one had the same file system, eg voodoo and speedmod (both use ext4).

I don't know if it is your case (most likely) but in recovery 3e you can't flash unsigned update.zip
So, firt you'll need to either get 2e (with an old rom) or install something like speedmod-kernel. I've done the latter and it's pretty straight forward
then after, you'll be able to play around more (like installing ClockWorkMod for easier rom install)
if you have specific modem (like Bell's 850mhz), you'll also need to get the modem file (from samfirmware) and reflash it with Odin or you won't have any signals

Can't Call or Text after Jelly Bean upgrade

Hi All,
Yesterday i decided to install CM10 JB-v9 from DerTeufel1980
the Install was great, and this build is fantastic and smooth, very good, however - i get a strong signal but i cannot
call or make calls, or send/receive texts.
trying to make a call just returns with 'call ended'
i found a couple of similar people with this issue however there was no clear resolve,
can anyone offer any suggestions?
Hmmm,
just tried another ROM - cm-10-20120729-UNOFFICIAL-galaxysmtd
still the same problem...any thoughts anyone?
I have restored back to Froyo - IMEI number is getting altered when flashing to JB,
will try backup and restore of EFS folder

Yes that's an efs problem. Try to restore efs after flasging JB.
you could also try flashing a new modem eg jvu. There is a thread

Just to update, definately EPS issue.
I went back to Scratch...From the top:
1. Use Odin 1.82 to Stock GTI9000 XWJSD with S1 512 odin partition info
2. Use Odin 1.7 to then upgrade to I9000 XXJVU Firmware
3. Use Odin 1.82 to Root XXJVU using CF-Root 2.3.6V 4.3 CWM3
(you can probably use one version of Odin however i was following different guides for each step, so just stuck to them)
4. CHECK IMEI number in Phone setting > 'About' at this time, take note of it.
5. Boot to recovery, Install CM10 JB-v8 from DerTeufel1980 and also the ADDON pack
6. Boot Phone into new Jellybean, check IMEI (totally different) no phone signal, can't call or send texts.
7.Connect to Play store, purchase Root explorer, give Root explorer Super user rights,
8.Copy contents of EPS folder in BACKUP folder on Internal storage (i think this is created when upgrading to Jellybean? confirm?)
9. Overwrite contents of EPS folder in system root.
10. Reboot phone, IMEI number now back to normal, able to make calls etc
Warning: I would only advise doing this if you know you can get back to stock ROM.
Hopefully this will help some others in the future
cheers
