Ive scoured the internet and can't find anything. I really wish the speaker phone speaker would go louder. Ive tried software tweaks to the point that the speaker distorted so I know its a hardware limitation.
Has anyone physically replaced the speaker with a louder / more efficient one. My friends droid 1 is nice and loud and has some more bass....Id love to get the same sound out of my HD2.

Hi everyone today I just sold my X10, and I'm gonna foucs on something other, like HTC LEGEND I red something abut the phone, everything looks brilliant, but I'd like to hear some opinions about the speaker ?? Is the quality of music and earspeaker good? In X10 voice from earphone was poor, sometimes I coludn't hear my caller, when I was driving car it was annoying.. The music from the speaker wasn't aslo the most powerful. It was a little quiet, and I'm curios about the situation in HTC LEGEND
The built in loudspeaker output is poor, especially if you're assigning an MP3 as a ringtone. I'm always missing calls because it's not very loud
The legend is very loud but because it sits flat on its back it really muffles the sound. Just remember to put it on a non flat surface or put it upside down. Is say its a design over sight

So finally what ?? As I can see, Legend has loud speaker but putting it on back mufles the sound and now it isint loud ?
Unfortunately, HTC is not very famous for the speaker sound quality. The speaker is poor and a free hands conversation is ... depressing : )
In direct comparison with the x10 the legend sounds much better. My friend has the x 10 and it sounds awful

I was completely disappointed when I first opened the package with my x10 turned it on and played the music sample in mediascape:-\ such as type of headset and so poor quality both from speaker and headset i don't need the phone playing like hifi but it must be audible outdoor, not like x10:-( s far the best speaker for me has n95 , next samsung Wave...

the speaker quality is okay when hearing music, as long as you dont turn up the volume too much
the loudness is good as well imo
but the headphones u get with the phone are awful...
It was a mistake to design the phone with the speaker on the back. It should have been on top (Nokia E71) or at the bottom (iPhone 4).
On top of that, the maximum volume is not very loud. It's too bad because the rest of the phone is great. But this flaw might just be a dealbreaker for me if they don't fix it ;(
Indeed the problem is as many have stated, that the speaker is on the back.
When the phone is lying on it's back you get about 60% volume decrease on the speaker. Bad design.
I can live with this though, i love the phone other than this, and the 3,5mm jack problem
I've kinda been lucky to have had 3 x10's through faults, but there's a but.
My background us that am a tv/ vcr engineer, and I've come across "fudges" to mask faults.
So here goes. All 3 x10's have low call volume. All 3 ear pieces vibrate/resonate at max ear volume.
So imagine if the in ear volume is increased further, more vibration/distortion. Hence low volume, lessons the vibration.
My ten penneth.

yep agreed there
mine does also
any increase is sure to make it worse at max volume, and it bugs the hell out of me 2.
So, now I get it! That's why on the promotional video, the babe was using bluetooth headset all the time, and never been seen using the phone earpiece for calling etc... We should all buy the bluetooth headset then. The only problem is, I cannot find that white bluetooth headset in the market, I've searched everywhere already...
I think cheapest solution is to have ears syringed regular.
Seriously though, it has to be the mounting of the ear piece speaker what's causing the resonance.
I'm 40, and I can hear it, so its clearly a design floor.

I bought a Desire HD last month but returned it after a few days because it was just too big to be comfortable for daily use but the biggest reason was the crappy speaker volume. I was constantly missing calls because I couldn't hear the phone ringing when in my pocket.
My question is is how loud is the external speaker on the Desire Z? For quick comparison I find my normal Desire just adequate enough to be heard normally.
Would also be interested in hearing a reply on this... Thinking of going ahead now and getting the DZ, but would like to know what the speaker is like for ringtones/alert tones etc...
I would say in general the speaker volume is not as loud as it could be. It is certainly not as loud as my milestone is. I havent missed any calls yet, but I have it turned up all the way for ringer and notification and wish it could be louder.
Its not a deal breaker for me, but could be for some.
The speaker is moderately loud. The main issue people are having is that the quality of sound out of the speaker itself is rather poor. As someone who almost always has his phone on vibrate and never uses actual music as his ringtone, I haven't noticed it.

I'd say the ringer is pretty quiet to be honest, personally I'd like to make it louder as I'm sure I'll never hear it in my pocket.
Andre
Not sounding too good then regarding ringing volume?!
Any TP2 users who can say whether this is better/worse/same as the TP2 volume? Do you find that you are missing more calls?
I'm currently using an Orange San Fran phone whilst deciding, and going from the TP2 to the San Fran, I can say that I miss most calls... lol. For example, the phone underneath the settee last week, and I couldn't find it. So, rang it to try and find it. Couldn't even hear the ringing!!! Only noticed it when was about a foot away from it...
My almost 50 year old ears have problems anyway, so I leave my phone in vibrate mode and in my shirt pocket, so I can feel it more than hear it if I'm in a noisy place.
I've also taken to wearing a BT headset, now that I can hear
/current phone is a TYTN II -- should get me Z tomorrow
I think the Z might be a little too heavy for a shirt pocket :-/
My girlfriend has a continuum and I can't take talking on the phone with her anymore.
No not because she's annoying ;D
The mic picks up everything, and it sounds like shattered glass and over modulation.
I have a recording if anyone wants, but I'm sure it's the mic as I bought her a decent plantronics bluetooth headset and it takes care of the problem, except for the fact that she doesn't use it 90% of the time.
Is it a microphone gain setting I can adjust, or simply a defective unit since I can only find good reviews about call quality online
Not sure if there is a gain or not but mine does the same thing and like you I bought the plantroics mic

Hi guys I wanted to ask you atrix users about the phones speakers. This is very important to me my phone (nexus one) sucks in comparison to the iPhone 4 speaker. I recently was out at a busy restaurant and I had to take calls on my friends iPhone 4 because I couldn't hear a thing on my nexus (with pershoots audio boost kernel) to be honest I'm getting sick and tired of my phone now. I want somthing new and the atrix looks like the phone for me. One thing I need to to know betore buying it is if the speaker in call on the phone and the loud speaker is any better or similar to the iPhone 4 . I love android but I find myself finding more things the iPhone does better and for I need a phone that means I don't miss out on what my clients are saying. I really hate the iPhone I think its just a brand whores dildo but it can do the basic stuff my phone can do but does it better.
this pjone had the loudest speaker you will hear on a phone. That is one thing I def. Cannot complain about.
+1. It has a pretty descent speaker. Its definitely louder than iPhone4
The loud speakers are years ahead of the iPhones toy speakers.

Loudest speaker on any phone I have ever owned. I run it at half volume normally. At max volume it can get slightly distorted but is still understandable -- an excellent tradeoff for use in loud environments.
And using it as a speakerphone works great too. Very loud and even the mic seems to work fine for two people on opposite sides of a small table with the phone horizontal in the middle.
