If I know where the damn Fonts folder is located on Android and how to create the Virtual keyboard then I will implementing it
Anyway, I was hoping that Android has the same file directory as the Unix machine and devices like Nokia N900.
Linux and Nokia N900:
/usr/share/fonts
Windows:
C:\Windows\Fonts
Android???
If someone could englightening on this matter and directing me to the right place on a SDK of the Virtual Keyboard then I would deeply appreciated.
We've got to add Khmer language support to Android. It has been nearly 5years long and still no Khmer support. This is outragous.

Using Root Explorer and mount R/W to overwrite the system file.
Once rooted, installing the font is not the hard part. The font still doesn't render correctly. It's missing a script or something that can assemble the subscripts.
Khmer Keyboard is easy: Install MultiLing Keyboard and it's Khmer plugin from Android Market.
I have installed this two but viewing web site still not correctly display.
Do you have any idea on how to fix this ?

Android can read Khmer Unicode but lacks the script to properly display it. This problem touches the multi keyboard as well. To correctly display webpages in Khmer, take a look at the Khmum Browser from Beeline at Android Market.

I got it to displayed the characters properly but the bottom consonants won't get rendered. This pathetic, tried everything but couldn't get it to rendered unicodes.

You can change the order of the characters when using the Sym key!
I'm Norwegian, so I use ÆØÅ a lot!
Normally, I'd have to press "a" and then "Sym" 9 times to get "æ".
Now, I press "a" and "Sym" one time!
All you have to do is edit the "\Windows\sym.txt" file..
Here is the original one:

I guess you understand how to edit it?
I just moved "æ" from the end of the line, to the second place on the first line..
Now, I can't take credit for this..
I got it from Dangaard!
But I though I'd share it anyway, because Dangaard requires you to give a valid IMEI number to get such info from them..
Very nice find, comes in handy for the german umlaute too.
It's worth mentioning that this file is Unicode and must be edited with a Unicode capable editor. You can't do that on the device.
Before copying the new version you also need to remove the read only flag from the original file (And ignore all the Warnings about overwriting ROM files...)
Takk for det
Tnx.. and I think if you save a word doc with a norwegian dictionary the JasJar will be able to use that for spelling sugestions ?, someone tried this ??

SYM function for special Characters
Great Find!
I aften have to write in Portuguese which means I need ç, ã é à and all other odd characters. BUT, I have a question.
Can you just copy the SYM.TXT file from the device to your computer edit it and copy it back? Does file explorer grant you access to do that or does one need a special app to do that?
Cheers
You can use the normal file explorer on you pocket pc. Just copy the sym.txt to another name to edit it, then put it back in the windows folder under the sym.txt name. It will overwrite the original until you delete it, where you get the original settings back.
Thanks for a great tip! Is there perhaps some similar method for editing symbols on the on-screen keyboard?
Thanks a lot for this tuning.
I´ve one more question to symbols in documents like the german umlaute. I use the transcriber in my MDA pro. But its only the english language chooseable. Is there also any possibility to change this input program to german/greek...?

Thanks for sharing,
Ricky, are you going to edit and compress also the bold YaHei?
The name of edited normal Yahei is MSYH while bold is Microsoft Yahei, so they can't be used together the way it's generally used (likewise Tahoma & TahomaBD, their internal Windows' name for both is 'Tahoma', so when you make font bold in applications like Word, it's ok; with different internal names, you need to change the font itself).
Please can you add bold font with the same system name (MSYH) as the one you've edited.
Also, what is ChinesePlus.exe for?
thanks Ricky, your fonts is always so good.
Hello
First of all sorry for my bad English!
it's a big problem that Android devices cannot show arabic/persian letters!
but developers has fixed this problems on some devices! (Legend/Nexus One/Xperia X10 and ...) and Samsung Devices support this languages officaily!
Now, What's the fix for Wildfire!?
i, my self has tried some ways, i know it is depended on two things:
1. Font (totally Fixed, No Problem!)
2. lip (here is my problem!)
i have copied good fonts to Rom files (make/edit a zip) and then flash my cooked rom with my favorite font, now my device can show arabic/perisan letters BUT separately!
i did the same way (copy file to rom zip and then flash!) with lib files, letters was good but Gallery and Browser and some other apps did'n work (Force Close!)
there is 3 lib file that they are related to this problem:
libskia.so
libskiagl.so
libwebcore.so
Important: In CM rom everything is OK! Persian/Arabic Rom are showing true!
My Another Problem: Because of this problem i cannot test some different lib files to rich to good result: When i want to replace lib file in Root Explorer, i see an error: "not enough space" so i forced to copy my lib files to a zip file (rom) and flash it to test! it's so CRAZY! What's the solution?!
Point: there is a Official Arabic HTC Rom for Legend and i know it has cooked by developers for Hero, is here anyone to see them and try to cook one rom for Wildfire!?
thanks so much and
keep your nice work!
I did find a Arabic rom from a Arabic forum which it supports Persian letters so well and has English menus and a fantastic bilingual (English/Persian) keyboard, now I'm using that!
You can find my topic here:

In the Wildfire section

Could you please paste here the link to download that rom (arabic/persian for wildfire) ? I'm not iranian so that I could not read parsi.
CM
But the browser in CM doesn't support arabic
the letters appears not connected!
Java Util class for Farsi/Arabic letters for Android
I have created a Util class that reshapes the arabic, persian, farsi, dari letters to correct glyphs. Find more at:
ahmad-iv.blogspot
Edit:
I cannot post a link right now...
Its easier to flash to CM7 or use Arabic Eclair rom. There is also custom roms that supports Parsi/Arabic languages.
Since I can't reply to the development forum thread "External Keyboard with AZERTY"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867923, I post my reply here :
I succeeded to compile a french keyboard layout by deploying some french kbd source mapping files found on the web at <android_2.2>/sdk/emulator/keymaps, adding the source files to the "Android.mk" and building the deployment files "fr.kcm.bin" & "fr.kl".
Find attached a zip file, you may unzip on "/tmp" on your gen8 device and execute "./setup.sh" to install the french layouts (Works on my MobilityLab USB external keyboard).
Of course, you need "root" access to mount a tmpfs filesystem and fix the content of the "/system/usr/keychars" and "/system/usr/keylayout".
thank you very much i will try to put int in the init phase
Thank you very much for sharing. This is a good news for French user.
I wish someone can compile a Thai language for external keyboard layout.
Could you please done it for my dream come true?
Yesterday I bought a USB keyboard and noticed the QWERTY layout, today, quick search and find this topic, what a pleasure to go on XDA each day!
Going to root my 101 (3 days old lol) and install this!
Thanks!
Does anyone besides me find it somewhat humorous that a French company doesn't support French? I know...I'm stupid.
Any advise to launch your script?
I tried to launch it through Console emulator, it seems to ran but it did not change anything.
Although my kb is a mobility lab
Edit: I verified, both files are correctly copied, but still in qwerty, maybe there is a change to perform to choose the layout?
After choosing French in the External KB menu and rebooted it works!
Thanks!

Maybe, maybe not.
I think you should give it a try, if your device is an Android one, I don't see anything that could cause an issue...
As always, backup before, apply, reboot (I had to) and test

I'm just dumb! It say have to Change my software keybaord layout to fit with the bluetooth one but it work only with the keyboard of the tab (the Samsung keyboard). I use a Samsung galaxy tab with rom overcom
For who Wana try one other tab, enter the setup of your stock ROM keyboard and try to use different configuration.

Hi, I'm new to Android. This gnote is my first Droid, I'm really happy with it so far. Just a few questions if anyone can help that would be awesome.
1, is there a way to remove the preloaded UK apps that came with the phone?
2, right now i can only switch between UK English and US English while typing, is there a way to add more languages like Chinese and Vietnamese?
3, can unwanted languages be removed?
Thank you.
For the languages, you have to be Rooted, after that install the Root Eplorer, with it go to the folders: Android>System>Fonts and from there add or remove the ttf files,at least thats what I do on my HD2 and it works.
Thank you. I will look into rooting. Where can I find ttf files for other language?

I use the attached ttf file (which i have extracted from Windows 7 Tahoma Font to use it on my HD2WM),Successfully on my Android devices to read Armenian,I know it also supports many other langusges as well, like Hebrew,Arabic etc.but i am not sure of Chinese,
Just copy/paste/replace/
You can do a search for Roboto Fonts as well.
You will need 7-ZIP to extract it.
sweet! thank so much.
