Has anyone else been having problems with their text message notifications. Frequently when I click on the notification in the pull down, it will either not open the messaging app and clear the notification, open the messaging app to the thread but start at the top, or clear the notification and leave the notification pull down still down?

I've had this problem from time to time on my Heroc, 2.2+ roms, and its present on the Shift as well. Though its not very often, and not limited to one rom.
Leads me to believe its Android-related, and not rom-related.

I'm running the stock build, just rooted. When I contacted HTC all they could suggest was a soft reset, and clearing of all of the messaging data.
Yeah its a problem with android because my girl has a shift that has never been rooted and it does the same thing

I did find out from another thread on here somewhere that the problem with it starting you at the top of the messages is actually because you slide the keyboard open when it is opening the thread.
^^This. If you open a thread in portrait and slide the keyboard while it is still opening the thread, it will start at the top.

I have reverted back to the old messaging app that came standard on the G1 but I can't get it to show a green LED light when I have a text message like it use to. I go to settings and I don't see an option for it. As a matter of fact the options seem rather limited, and I thought there were way more before I went to Handcent SMS. But since that has given me problems I went back to the old messaging app but there is no options at all really . Any help?
You posted in wrong section but open the message app and click menu and notification settings and there you go!
Ah sorry about that. But when I click menu all I see is Notifications, Select Ringtone, and Vibrate. I am running Dwang's ROM if that makes a difference. I can't click Notifications to bring up a new menu, it's just a check box.

Hmm think it had to do with my ROM. I went to the Cyanogen ROM and now the option is there. Thanks.

Subliminal messaging
Whenever I get multiple messages from multiple recipients, I click on the icon in the Notification bar. This brings me to the latest message I received. If I have a message from another recipient and I use the back button, it goes to the previous app or home screen I was on, then I have to click on the messaging icon again to go to the main messaging screen. Is there a shortcut to go back to the main messaging list? Beginning to be a pita.
That is the way it is supposed to be, using the notification is a shortcut to the message and upon completion of reading and or replying pressing the back button takes you to where you originally where. To have it take you to your inbox would be annoying as you would have to go all the way back to where you were. If you want to quickly move between apps just hold the home button, your recent apps list should come up.

Yes, I agree, that would be annoying if the back button did that. What doesn't make sense is a way to go to the main screen of messaging at all. No option in when pressing the menu button or no way to swipe back to the main menu. Swiping the message will go to the next message from that recipient. What would make sense is swiping the recipient name at the top would go back to the main page. Very annoying when you have multiple new messages.
Cm6 on g1 had the option to make the back button take you back to all threads. I'm hoping for the same once we get cm6 on this beast.

Hey all. I am running a stock 9505 and want to use messages+ as my main SMS app but when using any 3rd party SMS widgets when I tap a message it opens in the Samsung messaging app. Is there any way to change this without root?
I am no stranger to rooting but I want to stay stock till my 30 day early failure warranty runs out

test this;
Setting > Apps > all > messages < disable it
:good:
Tried that. Now when I press a message on any of the widgets nothing happens at all.

Hi,
And Android Pro Widgets does not have an option to choose message + as its source?
If there is no such option ,then, you should email the maker of the app to either fix it,or show you how to do it.
send from stock contacts app once or reset defaults for stock messaging
I was going to suggest clearing the defaults for the stock messaging app in the application manager but mine was grayed out. I installed the messages+ app (just got my S4 and want a decent replacement anyway) amd then opened the stock contwcts app and sent a text to someone from there. I was given a choice of apps and picked messages+ and "always" instead of "just once." Then I found the widget and put it on my home screen. The correct app now opens. I hope this keeps working and works for you too. Your clear defaults may not be grayed out though since you already have another messaging app installed. I didn't. And if this messaging app is good, thanks for the recommendation! I'm new to Android.
It sounds like lollipop removed this. You don't get a notification when you get a text message if you are in the messaging program. I keep missing texts because I lay my phone down with the program still open. Is there any way around this? Are people using other programs?

I'm getting daily spam messages.
Please see the icon in the upper tray to the left.
The Header says:
'New Incoming Message'
I'm not using the Samsung messaging app as default.
I'm not seeing this message in Go SMS or the Samsung messaging app.
When I pull down the drop down, I see the message from a web address, and when I press it, it takes me to the website.
What is that icon to the left and what app is this, and how do I block these morons from sending me their spam?
looks like the O for opera.. Is that installed?
Hi. Yes, I am using Opera as my browser.
It could be that.. id uninstall and see if that stops it..

I think it's related to Samsung somehow, as the symbol is within a grey circle in the drop down screen, similar to other Samsung apps.
Edit:
See attached photo........
Edit #2:
If it does have anything to do with Opera, I just went into Settings/Notifications and changed the setting to 'Denied.'
Ultimately, I'd like to block the morons, if possible.
Pull down the notification shade, long press on that notification, and that should end this mystery.

Thanks for that. I haven't received anymore spam since denying notifications, but if I do, I'll be sure to hard press it.
