Hey chaps, Just wanted to shout out that ill be ordering my Tab tomorrow, I'm excited
Managed to do a advertising deal with somebody, to plug them/product on one of my sites, came at the perfect time as last couple of days I've been skint but REALLY wanting to upgrade early.
Been a bit undecided really whether to get it or wait for the 8.9" device, see if it becomes available on Orange but just cant wait (probably regret it but **** it).
So ill be spending all morning tomorrow swatting up on the Tab, rooting/flashing it etc, then waiting patiently for Honeycomb
I just got my tab last week and am loving it. You should not be disappointed. Rooting and flashing makes it faster and soo much smoother than stock.
Sgs Vibrant ::
Bionix 1.3.1
Dragon kernel v5 1.4oc
Voodoo lagfix, sound, color
Sg Tab [Tmo] ::
Overcome v1.2.1
1.4oc kernel
Voodoo lagfix, sound
Congratulations!
When you get it, root it, install latest Overcome Rom and kernel, dolphin browser and gingerbread keyboard from market. You will love it.....
Good luck!

You'll love it. Best current OS upgrade is to use overcome or Modaco rom. Modaco kernel also has fully working nandroid backup, which has proved to be invaluable if you're a tinkerer. Personally I'd recommend replacing touchwiz launcher with ADW or Launcherpro. Also I find Miren works a lot better than the default browser. If you plan on keeping your phone then grab a PAYG sim from Amazon - 3 do one that gives you three GB of data over three months for around £9. You can then set your current phone SIM to automatically send calls to the tab if unanswered in a period of time, so it becomes a nice phone extension without having to pay for voice minutes. The 3 sim also works well with sending/receiving texts.
Personally not convinced Honeycomb is destined for this device due to physical layout, but Ice Cream Sandwich should be fine if/when Samsung decide to do it. Either way, current OS works extremely well. Form should never follow function - to quote my architect friends....
It has been 2 days now......give us your thoughts!!!

When I first got this phone I was happy initially but wasn't all that satisfied with its bugs, lag and wack GPS. I don't know exactly what bugs you may have encountered but mine on 2.1 went as follows
- Some live wallpapers caused my phone to crash and reboot if I tried to set it. One of them (Pano-planet) always forced closed on me
- I couldn't play Fruit Ninja's and Flick Kick Field Goal because half the time I tried to, it would crash my phone.
- Ever since the update to make the google maps have that 3d came out, every single time I launched the app it would crash my phone.
- Lag, Lag and more lag
- My gallery app when launched always crashed on me
- When on the phone and I'd get another call on the other line, my screen would stay black for like 5-7 sec before it showed me who was trying to call me
- Battery life sucked.
Despite all of these issues, I got used to them and patiently waited for the Froyo update. Finally it came out and from what I've read, its a total mixed bag. A lot of people on hear said it wasn't worth it. So I personally was disappointed and didnt want to get the official update, afraid it may make my phone worse. Until I found out about custom roms. I'm a total noob but did research on custom roms and long story short flashed my phone to the Bionix-V by teamwhiskey. I should've done this a loooooooooooooong time ago. Not only is every bug that I mentioned fixed, but something that I thought was a hardware issue apparently isn't. The GPS on my phone is the best its ever been since I got the Vibrant. And the battery life on this phone is beautiful.
For the first time since I've had the phone, it functions and runs the way I expected it to run when I got it. I was thinking about getting another phone that I thought would be supported better but changed my mind cuz my work runs so well now. It functions so well, that I'm afraid to try out other roms because I don't want to mess up things. Which brings me to my next point.....SAMSUNG!! Its soooooooooooo sad that they have a line of phones that are capable of running so well get backed up/supported or lack thereof with TERRIBLE software. Thats like Sony backing and putting ps2 like quality games out on the ps3....makes no sense.
Anyway for those of you who are still running 2.1 software and are on the fence about which way to go (official or custom), take it from a noob like myself, who a week ago didn't know nothing about flashing a phone and custom this and that. FLASH FLASH FLASH....SCREW THE OFFICIAL UPDATE. ONCE YOU FLASH YOU WON'T GO BACK.
same here, once I got fed up with the waiting and the bugs, I rooted, then eventually popped a custom ROM on my phone and it has been great seeing how well the phone can work with proper software
I love the developers here. It's amazing what they can do, especially considering samsung doesn't really seem to care.

I just switched from an at&t x10 to the vibrant. Couldn't be more happier, i'm in love with this device!
Was hesitant to root for a while. Had a rooted G1 and loved it but I figured I would just let this one pan out. The T-Mobile OTA bricked my phone... So after learning how to use ODIN I decided to root it and see what I could get going on this and wow what a difference it has been. Still on Nero V3 and my phone runs smooth as butter. Amazing development community around here.
i'm new to this phone and someone recomend me to buy it. this rly is a surprise for me all this android stuff and the devs here are rly cool. i love my vibrant phone, won't change it even for an apple 4.
Ever since upgrading to stock 2.2 this phone has been the epitome of unreliable. It's like a pretty bad winmo phone running an android skin. Have to soft reset it (hole power down) like 5 times a day because the screen doesn't turn on. Pretty bad because you can think the phone is fine when you're really missing phone calls emails and notifications. Have tried factory reset switch batteries etc. Nothing works. It worked fine before the update but right now this phone is utterly unreliable and robust is not a term to describe it...

This is true. When the 2.2 official update came out I reverted back to stock so that I could update and see how well Samsung did. When I did, I saw the horrible ****tiness everywhere... slow and unstable... only had it running for 10 minutes before I just went back to custom software
It surprises me how Samsung ****ed up the official Froyo update when all the leaks we've been getting for our ROMs have been stable and acceptably fast.
Right now I'm using Bionix-v 1.2 and Dragon kernel 3.2 (a well optimized Voodoo-supported kernel that allows a maximum overclock of 1.4 Ghz and many more improvements!!)
im using bionix-v 1.2 by team whiskey myself and can't wait for stable froyo 2.2.1. im especially excited for voodoo sound that will bring our phones the highest quality sound output through headphones (thanks supercurio) and will soon be available to us without sacrificing battery life. i truly appreciate all the efforts devs here put into all these things.
anyone who hasn't been around here for long, please think twice before asking questions in dev threads.. i started flashing just about a month ago, flashed a number of kernels, roms, modems, custom frameworks, etc., and never had to ask a single question and never had any troubles just by researching, reading op and following instructions prior to flashing anything to get a sense of whatever i was doing. i understand a noob doesn't mean to be a noob. but seriously if you try, you can avoid getting problems unless there really is a bug. good questions encourage devs for sure, but a majority of noob questions don't and make serious devs leave us. i just really hope the devs who are working day and night trying to bring us good stuff without any rewards stick around and continue to produce quality creations as we've seen so far as long as my vibrant is still working and usable.. im so thankful.

Honestly it didn't surprise me one bit. Samsung probably made an exceptionally buggy release on purpose, part of their way of trying to shut people up and convince us that they weren't ready. I gave up on samsung support a long time ago and probably wont get another phone until the N2 comes out (I'm through with manufacturer support).
I switched to custom roms after 1 month of having this phone and i have to say i absolutely love it. I personally favor Master's roms. But all in all the devs here are absolutely amazing. They allow this phone to reach its potential in ways samsung never did. I'm excited to see what comes out of Eugene's source kernel.
Thank god for all the devs who do all this stuff for free.

Samsung software engineers dont know what they are doing. Period.
it is a good phone...the Bionix upgrade definitely made my phone run better but it gives me some slight problems on the vibrant that i have to work out
I had a Behold 2 and upgraded to the vibrant a month ago. I told my sister she have 10 minutes to play with the stock rom before I dismantle the POS rom and rooted it. 10 MINUTES guys!! that's how long the stock rom lived on my phone. i never even consider running stock.. currently running Eugene froyo 2.2 final r2 build with gingerbread theme.
I had a battery life hiccup for a bit. The A2SD caused the sd card mount to get hot and burns battery life. So i took all apps off SD and into internal storage and i'm now back to 24+ hours battery life.

It's funny because I said the same thing when I came from G1. "This time i'm gonna wait before I root". I ended up rooting it 3 hours later. Lol.
And yes as much as we ***** and complain about this phone, it's still a wonderful device. It's still 2nd best in terms of raw CPU/GPU power, with the best now being dual core tegras.
Before I start, let me say that I am happy owner of GTab 10.1 running task650 & Phantom's "In Paris v2" ROM. Now on to my story.
Waiting for the release of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was something I anxiously did the moment it was announced. Once released, I was in love with my first tablet and spent the majority of my time on it. The lack of apps didn't bother me because this seemed perfect in every aspect. The only thing missing was an Otterbox case (instead of waiting, I got something similar with the Gumdrop Drop Series). Everything was fine until a week later, when I encountered the "Sleep of Death".
Relatively new to XDA and hacking, I had no idea what to do with the recovery and downloading screens that I could access occasionally thru hard button combos. So what I did was send it in for service to Samsung (I had yet to root or do anything illegal). I sent it 8/1/11 before I went on a cruise with the wife. After getting back, I expected to have my GTab waiting for me. Was it there: no. I promptly called Samsung, and found out it was notation the service center. After some complaining, I found that they had received it the same day. After being reassured that it would be there within the week, I relaxed that week. Still no sign TWO weeks after the call.
Many calls had led to nothing, until I was directed to Executive Customer Relations. They told me that my motherboard had crashed and the one put in as a replacement had ALSO crashed. I asked for an new exchange and was guaranteed a new one. Two weeks later, I received a refurbished GTab 10.1 with the bottom screws missing and screen misaligned. A call back to ECR had me sending it back, but it took another two weeks of calls to finally get a new one.
It has finally arrived and I don't think I could have waited any longer. The moment I got my hands on it, it was rooted and ROM'ed with the "In Paris v2" and Pershoot's kernel. I couldn't be happier. Just thought you would all want to hear about the story of my piece of coal slowly formed into a diamond.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab 10.1 now "In Paris"
Just to clarify: rooting your tablet is not "illegal," nor is putting a custom ROM on it. Voiding your warranty is not the same as breaking the law.
Glad you're finally up and going. I strongly suggest upgrading to Paris v4 before you get too much further, though. It's much faster and has the full-screen power menu tweak (but you'll need to install pershoot yourself).
Damn, considering the number of reports describing people having issues with their GTab 10.1 I either am very lucky to not having any, or people are complaining too much. No sleep of deaths, no newton rings, no battery drainage, no lags for me. No nothing.
*knocks on wood*
My first table had the oil slick so i took it back to best buy and i haven't had a problem since.

I like the tab but until I have rooted and modded it with Overcome mod I was not entirely happy with its performance. It is a great tablet but some of Samsung software sucks a bit.
I definitely needed to modify my GTab 10.1 after seeing the pre- and post-Touchwiz changes. The update seemed to add a bunch of redundant apps like multiple video, book, and music apps. One I switched to task650 and Phantom's "In Paris" ROM, I knew I would never be going back to stock. Now on v4 of their ROM and loving the SPEED

Dev Thrive
I bought one of these, the device itself is great. One big problem...
It appears as though my thrive was a dev thrive. It has a custom rom and kernal on it. No android market or google apps at all. At first I figured I would just root it and put one of dalepl's custom roms on it. I was afraid to do so though, because in reading about how to root, it was very clear to only use the root tool with certain build numbers and mine is clearly not. Whatever is loaded on it, seems to be fairly stable and very fast...although it does go to sleep at times and will not wake back up. Has anybody heard of something like this happening?
You need to return this device. There is no way to update that load. It should never had been sent out with that load. The partitions are not standard and you cannot root it or load a custom ROM onto it.
I contacted Woot that day about returning it. They told me they had some in stock so they will be sending me a new one. It was interesting to say the least. Someone at Toshiba must have missed it!
Yes, I have talked to a few others that have received devices with the engineering load. I am supprized that Toshiba had let these slip out too. Not too supprised that a couple of Woot ones have it. These are remanufactured, but guess what, not by Toshiba. They have out sourced thier maintenance, so it is some outside company doing them. The tech probably checked that it booted and repacked it.
I almost jumped on that woot! Impulsive instincts were driving me to order one. I think the thrive has a lot of potential in the future. I'll stick with the cheaper hp touchpad for now and wait for tablet wars 2.0 this year for the shakeup before diving into a serious tablet with some horsepower.
I received my Thrive from Woot a couple weeks ago. I wasn't even looking for a tablet, but couldn't pass it up. This is my first tablet, and so far its pretty awesome. Glad to see there is a thread for it here.
Well thrive may be nice and for that kind of price its ok. (Tho i prefere my Toshiba Folio i acquired as 1st android tablet for 100$ in fact I love Toshiba brand... xD and the fact T device have a very good price/quallity rapport even on second hand)
Now brainstorming on: Foliomod 1.4 or waiting on a working ICS port (T device deserve waaayyy more love then they get atm :'( )

Let me start by saying that I love my Xoom. I have loved it since the day I paid almost $900 for it. ($799 plus 9.25% sales tax here in Tennessee) I will be the first to say that it was not perfect at first, but through official OTA updates and third party ROMs, my Xoom has become the perfect companion and tool that I use at least 4-6 hours every day. Currently running Team EOS nightly ROM 163, Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean at 1.5 Ghz, and this thing runs as well as any tablet I have ever used. My only complaint is that the screen could be better, but at least it does not have the light bleed that a lot of IPS screened tablets have. We liked it so much that my wife also picked up a wifi Xoom for herself and uses it several hours a day as well.
I recently purchased a Fujitsu Q702 Windows 8 tablet for less than what I paid for my Xoom. My first inclination was to sell the Xoom because I thought I might not use it as much. Only time will tell, but this I know...the Xoom has been one heck of a device and worthy of being call my "Little Buddy"!

So here is the deal. I LOVE my Xoom and see very little difference between what is out now and what I can do. However. There are some features of jellybean that I like on my razr m that I would love to do on my Xoom. So a friend of mine told me about this site and I am sooo overwhelmed. Is it possible that you could either help me upgrade my Xoom to jellybean. Maybe just show me some threads. I am tech savvy. But stopped doing alterations when windows xp first came out, because I always got the bad files and decided it wasn't worth the aggregation. Now I am willing to open my mind again.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey all. So I love my Xoom but have had to purchase another unnamed tablet with 3G capabilities so for the last few months my 2 sons (3 & 5 years old) have been using the table for games and interactive books at bedtime. Of course they love it too now, but didn't realise how easy it is to use these things. The play the games and read the books without my help "daddy go away!!". They also love clouds and sheep and send me pictures they take of the game!!
I know ppl ***** and moan about the lack of updates for devices but for a device I really enjoyed but couldn't get over how bad Honeycomb was, well it's come a long way and is standing the test of time. I don't think I'll ever get rid of this device.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997434
I rooted mine and have the latest JB on it. I can't believe I waited so long to root it!!! My Xoom is still going strong, but I noticed the battery doesn't last as long. I still get days of use out of it.
my xoom is not really doing well, ... but i will keep it untill it is really bricked XD update update and update to the latest roms!
I was a Verizon Xoom owner, then sold mine to finance the purchase of a Nexus 10. However, I am now a Verizon Xoom owner yet again. A while back, a client had bought my company a Xoom to test our web development work on because their field agents all used Xooms out in the field. Well, they upgraded to Galaxy Note 10.1s, which means they bought my company one for testing. With no use for the Xoom, my boss was nice enough to give it to me.
I have to say that, even though Google and Verizon have yet to get a Jelly Bean update out for the CDMA/LTE model, ICS runs fine on it for now. Plus, did I mention how much I missed having a tablet with a cellular connection? I have a Nexus 7 and 10, and though I love them to pieces, the only way to use them while I'm out is to kill my phone battery by enabling WiFi hotspot. The Xoom costs me $10/mo to have on my shared data pool on Verizon. I can deal with that. It's worth it to have the connectivity anywhere and everywhere. It's also nice that the Xoom is a little older now because the official accessories are dirt cheap now. I was able to pick up the OEM Motorola OTG cable (dubbed the Xoom Camera Connection Kit), standard dock, and portfolio case on eBay, all brand new, for a combined $30 bucks after shipping. That's a win.
I agree with the comment above that owning a Xoom is like owning a classic car. It's still plenty fast for everything I would do while out and about, plus the thing is built like a brick $h1thouse. If anyone ever breaks into your house, you can beat them over the head with your Xoom to knock them out, then use it to post about the incident on Twitter while you wait for the cops.
I'm glad to have the Xoom back in my arsenal, if only for the times when I'm out and about and want a cell connection without having to kill my phone battery. I only buy Nexus devices because I like the stock, unfettered Android experience and getting updates from Google. As we all know, the Xoom is functionally a Nexus in everything but its name. So...if you want a Nexus tablet with a cell connection on Verizon, the Xoom is still your only choice.
P.S. Vegas currently has the over/under on the 4.1.2/JZO54K Jelly Bean update for the Verizon Xoom at June 1 (to commemorate the one-year anniversary of its last update, the one to ICS). I'm taking the under, but only by a week or so.

Been using my Xoom every day for over a year and it's totally awesome. I've had zero problems since i bought it. I'm still using it with CM10 because CM10.1 just seems a little slower and I dont use multiple users. I'm totally happy that when I wanted to buy the Galaxy tab, it was sold out and I got the Xoom instead.
The only reason why i would consider an upgrade would be because i like higher dpi screens. In every other way the Xoom is superb.
My xoom (wi-fi only) still rocks on and is wonderful as well. It gets used every day and regularly lasts over half the week on a single charge, watching netflix for an hour or two most nights. I'm probably the freak of the bunch, running complete stock and being utterly satisfied with it. I mostly keep up with the forums here because of looking for things on my other android device (Epic 4g, i717 Note, Moment) histories and figured I might as well bookmark the Xoom too.
In any case, yay Xoom! I love my choice of tablet :]

No shame in stock, man. Check my signature. All five of my devices are bone stock. haha That Android 4.1.2/JZO54K ROM runs like a champ on the Xoom. Compared to ICS, Jelly Bean made the Xoom feel like a brand new tablet. All of us on Verizon are still waiting, but it'll show up eventually.

I've also had my Xoom for a number of years, I GEDified it when 4.1.2 was first available and left in untouched until very recently. It's now rooted running dreamcwli's 4.2.2 rom which has given the device a new lease of life.
