When I first got this phone I was happy initially but wasn't all that satisfied with its bugs, lag and wack GPS. I don't know exactly what bugs you may have encountered but mine on 2.1 went as follows
- Some live wallpapers caused my phone to crash and reboot if I tried to set it. One of them (Pano-planet) always forced closed on me
- I couldn't play Fruit Ninja's and Flick Kick Field Goal because half the time I tried to, it would crash my phone.
- Ever since the update to make the google maps have that 3d came out, every single time I launched the app it would crash my phone.
- Lag, Lag and more lag
- My gallery app when launched always crashed on me
- When on the phone and I'd get another call on the other line, my screen would stay black for like 5-7 sec before it showed me who was trying to call me
- Battery life sucked.
Despite all of these issues, I got used to them and patiently waited for the Froyo update. Finally it came out and from what I've read, its a total mixed bag. A lot of people on hear said it wasn't worth it. So I personally was disappointed and didnt want to get the official update, afraid it may make my phone worse. Until I found out about custom roms. I'm a total noob but did research on custom roms and long story short flashed my phone to the Bionix-V by teamwhiskey. I should've done this a loooooooooooooong time ago. Not only is every bug that I mentioned fixed, but something that I thought was a hardware issue apparently isn't. The GPS on my phone is the best its ever been since I got the Vibrant. And the battery life on this phone is beautiful.
For the first time since I've had the phone, it functions and runs the way I expected it to run when I got it. I was thinking about getting another phone that I thought would be supported better but changed my mind cuz my work runs so well now. It functions so well, that I'm afraid to try out other roms because I don't want to mess up things. Which brings me to my next point.....SAMSUNG!! Its soooooooooooo sad that they have a line of phones that are capable of running so well get backed up/supported or lack thereof with TERRIBLE software. Thats like Sony backing and putting ps2 like quality games out on the ps3....makes no sense.
Anyway for those of you who are still running 2.1 software and are on the fence about which way to go (official or custom), take it from a noob like myself, who a week ago didn't know nothing about flashing a phone and custom this and that. FLASH FLASH FLASH....SCREW THE OFFICIAL UPDATE. ONCE YOU FLASH YOU WON'T GO BACK.
same here, once I got fed up with the waiting and the bugs, I rooted, then eventually popped a custom ROM on my phone and it has been great seeing how well the phone can work with proper software
I love the developers here. It's amazing what they can do, especially considering samsung doesn't really seem to care.

This is a great phone and when the Vibrant 4G comes out we will be able to kite off what we need from them to make this phone even better
I just switched from an at&t x10 to the vibrant. Couldn't be more happier, i'm in love with this device!
Was hesitant to root for a while. Had a rooted G1 and loved it but I figured I would just let this one pan out. The T-Mobile OTA bricked my phone... So after learning how to use ODIN I decided to root it and see what I could get going on this and wow what a difference it has been. Still on Nero V3 and my phone runs smooth as butter. Amazing development community around here.
i'm new to this phone and someone recomend me to buy it. this rly is a surprise for me all this android stuff and the devs here are rly cool. i love my vibrant phone, won't change it even for an apple 4.
Ever since upgrading to stock 2.2 this phone has been the epitome of unreliable. It's like a pretty bad winmo phone running an android skin. Have to soft reset it (hole power down) like 5 times a day because the screen doesn't turn on. Pretty bad because you can think the phone is fine when you're really missing phone calls emails and notifications. Have tried factory reset switch batteries etc. Nothing works. It worked fine before the update but right now this phone is utterly unreliable and robust is not a term to describe it...

This is true. When the 2.2 official update came out I reverted back to stock so that I could update and see how well Samsung did. When I did, I saw the horrible ****tiness everywhere... slow and unstable... only had it running for 10 minutes before I just went back to custom software
It surprises me how Samsung ****ed up the official Froyo update when all the leaks we've been getting for our ROMs have been stable and acceptably fast.
Right now I'm using Bionix-v 1.2 and Dragon kernel 3.2 (a well optimized Voodoo-supported kernel that allows a maximum overclock of 1.4 Ghz and many more improvements!!)
im using bionix-v 1.2 by team whiskey myself and can't wait for stable froyo 2.2.1. im especially excited for voodoo sound that will bring our phones the highest quality sound output through headphones (thanks supercurio) and will soon be available to us without sacrificing battery life. i truly appreciate all the efforts devs here put into all these things.
anyone who hasn't been around here for long, please think twice before asking questions in dev threads.. i started flashing just about a month ago, flashed a number of kernels, roms, modems, custom frameworks, etc., and never had to ask a single question and never had any troubles just by researching, reading op and following instructions prior to flashing anything to get a sense of whatever i was doing. i understand a noob doesn't mean to be a noob. but seriously if you try, you can avoid getting problems unless there really is a bug. good questions encourage devs for sure, but a majority of noob questions don't and make serious devs leave us. i just really hope the devs who are working day and night trying to bring us good stuff without any rewards stick around and continue to produce quality creations as we've seen so far as long as my vibrant is still working and usable.. im so thankful.

Honestly it didn't surprise me one bit. Samsung probably made an exceptionally buggy release on purpose, part of their way of trying to shut people up and convince us that they weren't ready. I gave up on samsung support a long time ago and probably wont get another phone until the N2 comes out (I'm through with manufacturer support).
I switched to custom roms after 1 month of having this phone and i have to say i absolutely love it. I personally favor Master's roms. But all in all the devs here are absolutely amazing. They allow this phone to reach its potential in ways samsung never did. I'm excited to see what comes out of Eugene's source kernel.
Thank god for all the devs who do all this stuff for free.

Samsung software engineers dont know what they are doing. Period.
it is a good phone...the Bionix upgrade definitely made my phone run better but it gives me some slight problems on the vibrant that i have to work out
I had a Behold 2 and upgraded to the vibrant a month ago. I told my sister she have 10 minutes to play with the stock rom before I dismantle the POS rom and rooted it. 10 MINUTES guys!! that's how long the stock rom lived on my phone. i never even consider running stock.. currently running Eugene froyo 2.2 final r2 build with gingerbread theme.
I had a battery life hiccup for a bit. The A2SD caused the sd card mount to get hot and burns battery life. So i took all apps off SD and into internal storage and i'm now back to 24+ hours battery life.

It's funny because I said the same thing when I came from G1. "This time i'm gonna wait before I root". I ended up rooting it 3 hours later. Lol.
And yes as much as we ***** and complain about this phone, it's still a wonderful device. It's still 2nd best in terms of raw CPU/GPU power, with the best now being dual core tegras.

Hi everyone. I recently bought a Galaxy S (Bell Vibrant) for my wife, she saw it and really liked and i was pretty familiar with the specs and all that and all the good reviews so i jumped in and got it. Now since she has it (4 days) the phone has turned itself off for no reason twice and has also frozen a couple of times with one of them being when i was showing it to an apple fanboy (embarrassed). But anyway now my wife isnt very happy with it because she says it feels very light and cheap and she thinks it would break very easy and also complains about it turning off. Today she saw the icrap 4 in the store and she liked it and now she wants that . She says it feel that it wont break easy and its stylish . Now i dont like the iphone at all and i really dont want to return the SGS and get that but i want whats best for my wife. I just read so much on this forum about all the problems people have with this phone turning off, freezing, lag, screen problems, gps, touch buttons, bad audio quality and a few more... I wonder on the screen i dont know if it will last a year before it starts tint issues burn ins and so on. Now i want to know do you guys think this phone would last at least a year two and do you think all this stuff will be sorted out or should i get her the icrap 4. I really dont like that iphone but it seems suitable for my wife as all she wants is somthing that works takes decent pictures and looks good. Please let me know what you guys think as this is really pita.
Sorry for the long and confusing post..
you keep the SGS and get her the "iwantwhateverybodywantsphone"
SGS is not for the normal person
SGS is for people with computer knowledge and linux understanding and windows haters
SGS is a amazing phone if you know how to use it, and keep it clean, the same techniques used in windows works the same in Android, and it does wonderful stuff
ironically in windows those solutions never last, in Android you do it once, and it remains forever set.
no GPS problem, no lag, no lag fix, no freeze, no turning off on its own, it works perfectly on JH2
your description of the phone "turning off" could be either a battery problem, or the phone ran out of memory due all the background apps no closing off and releasing the memory back
Shes got her mind set on the Iphone4, get it and live happy. If not she'll be whinning about it til contract is up or divorce (which ever is faster)

Yes i know how it is with Android as i am pretty familiar with it. I have a X10 myself and i love it to bits, i dont think im ready to switch it for an SGS. However i am not doubting the software of the SGS but the hardware, my main concern is the screen, i see a lot of people here that have problems with it so my concern is durabilty and lifespan i also see a lot of people on here who sent their phone for repair numerous times and that scares me. Now my wife is not set on the iphone as she is not a big fan of apple herself and shes heard me ***** about how bad and limited it is all the time but she just wants a reliable smartphone that she can depend on and not have it crap out by itself for no reason. She likes the SGS but she also likes the design of the crap 4 and she asked me if that would be more stable and not give problems. I told her that i am waiting on a update (froyo) and all the bugs will be probably fixed. Anyway like i stated before its the hardware thats is troubling me. Do you guys think it will last, more specifically the screen. Also can you recommend me wich firmware to use and wich lagfix? as i see there is a few out there, or should i wait for the official froyo release? Thank you for all your help, i really apreciate it.

Haha yes that is true. But the wife doesnt really care about the iphone and she is not set for it completly or somthing. She just said she likes the design lol. And if it would work better to get her that. So i am pretty unfamiliar with Samsung phones thats why im doubting it. I know all previous samsungs were crappy and buggy as hell and with weird menus etc.. So now we have the SGS wich is the first phone that i actually like from Samsung but i still have my doubts thats why i am asking you guys.

Wow....
I'm sorry but some of your posts are ridiculous.
"SGS is for windows haters and people with Linux undersanding"?
WTF
I'm sure the Bell rep makes you fill out a pre-requisite form before you take away a SGS to make sure you have Linux knowledge and hate windows... Thats how they are marketing the phone too...??
This phone is being marketed to the main stream.
And as far as JH2 being perfect. Guess what? When my SGS died I had already updated it to JH2. I got it back from repair on Friday, its JH2 still, and it has turned off on its own twice now. Fresh from being wiped and repaired. Just browsing these forums and seeing all the people with the same issues JH2 or otherwise is a clear indication that there are some serious issues with this phone. Oh, and my co-worker who picked one up after me has now had to send his in for repair as it died. Its his first smart phone, with all of 5 apps installed, so don't try to blame it on hacking or rooting.
You're apologetic fanboy like posts are getting tiring to be honest.

As for the original poster. Take it back and get your wife an iPhone 4 if thats what she wants. Apple fan boys drive me nuts too, I know, after my SGS died on me I have never heard the end of it..
Well i definitely see where you are coming from and understand your lack of interest on the SGS
but i'm coming from a total 180, and this is the perfect phone, everything came out as planned, from spec, to speed, to software, to features, to funtionality, to well you name it, everything works the way i expected it to work out of the box
way better than windows devices
i've been through a lot of smartphones before, and nothing comes close to the SGS, all previous "smartphones" were nothing but disasters and let downs
just the same way you think about the SGS i think about the HTC devices and the Blackberries, and the Treo600.
However the Treo650 was quite decent, albeit slow online but it was way better than its predecessor in every other aspect.
I still prefer PalmOS over Windows
put either Android or Palm OS on any device with good spec better than SGS and I'm all over it.
right now at this point in time the SGS is the creme of the crop, the supremacy, the top of the top
Looking forward to next years contenders

Hey there, I bought the i9000 on recommendation from two friends that were both iPhone users that switched to nexus ones and never looked back. I have been a blackberry user for about 7 years and gone through (destroyed) most of them. This is my first smartphone and i was looking for something with minimal buttons (to break) and a good screen and good battery life. I didn't realize i was also going to end up with a mini super computer! Lagfix not only solved all lag issues, it now performs like a pack of rabid monkeys... on a touch sensitive leash. I have had no issues with the screen, rebooting, or any other hardware related problems. Any issues were related to my inexperience with android which is how i found this place. Just be careful... so while i can't give you any further information about the hardware, I have to warn you that there is a lot of information about rooting Vibrants that doesn't apply to the i9000 even though they are relatively identical, most importantly the recovery hotkey combination.
Anyway, I'm getting off topic. My i9000 is rooted with MCR Script lagfix, GPS fix, and SetCPU on Performance. Its lightning quick, bloody bright, and about 1000x more than I ever could have hoped for out of a smartphone.

I am on my second Bell i9000m GXY S. Me and my girlfriend bought one just over a month ago.
Mine suddenly died. I had done many flashes and other such things on it, but that wasn`t the cause. The cause was a bad MoviNand chip. Samsungs chip that runs the phone. Before I even modified the phone I was having Force closes. Random reboots and other errors. Having to do battery pulls to get your brand new $600+ phone to work is ridiculous.
I came to Android from Blackberry. Being an apple hater I had no other real choice in my market.
My second Galaxy S (replacement under warranty) came in today. Before I touched anything root it had 2 force closes. It froze once so far under heavy use.
My girlfriends is completely stock and after a couple weeks has random reboots, and other errors similar to mine. I fear her phone will go the same as my first (and likely second) did.
I love the phone but the i9000m seems very buggy and unreliable. I can`t use it for an alarm because 1 out of 20 times it will freeze in the middle of the night. Hers too; which is stock.
It seems to be more of a problem with the Bell variants of the phone, as I see other bell users with the same problems more often then American customers.
I would really wait to make any permanent impressions on the phone until Samsung releasestheir Froyo FW update and possibly fixes the bigger problems with the i9000m.
So I wouldnt push you one way or the other, but be prepared to take that galaxy s off your woman`s hands and buy her a crapple. I may be taking my girlfriends and getting her a Desire HD or whatever HTC releases next in my market. HTC for my friends seems to be rock solid. Again thats just my view and I am probably inaccurate since I don`t own an HTC.
If samsung doesn`t fix the GPS bug (which I have run into on both our phones--- one stock and mine on several roms) and the crashing (stock) on the next couple of updates I will not be buying Samsung again, but will be sticking with Android. I have tried to use the GPS in 3 provinces and 4 states and its really accurate for me less then half the time.

Say what? Froyo isn't released yet. Nothing is forgotten before you actually have an officially released product on your phone. Stop being a retard and don't pollute threads with problems about inofficial firmwares. 3g is not entirely perfect on the released firmwares, but it's definetely there.

and disable all the apps that you don't need to be running in the background all the time
it doesn't matter how "smart" are the smartphones now in days, it's still a freaking computer, if it's not optimized, it will just go crazy
i don't even have a task killer installed, as it's not necessary, as long as you maintain the list of apps you allow it to run in the background then the rest is smooth sail.
i9000m stock JH2, no lag fix, the only fix installed is the SMS time fix

X10 is a stylish phone, its heavy and looks durable. So why not try to switch (assuming she doesn't mind using your "old phone" .. , and you two are on the same network / phones are unlocked)
Being a sgs owner I would recommend you to return it, it has too many issue straight out of the box. This phone requires alot attention, fixes, patient and time. It does have the potential to better then any mobile out there at this time but only if you posses the aforementioned qualities.
My advice get her desire HD or desire, she will appreciate it more then an iphone.
HTC Desire is really popular within the UK even amongst the women because it is easy to use and is works brilliantly out of the box.

As everyone more or less said:
- install the lagfix!
A) if you're technically inclined, flash the rom to something stable and tested by many (yet unofficial and "beta"): JM8 + voodoo b4 (it's in the dev forum)
B) if you're not, get one click lag fix from the market, it doesn't get any simpler! follow the program instructions, and be done with it
Let her play with it for a while with lagfix.
About the hardware quality, i got a i9000 (not i9000m), there's many different SGS and even with the same design might come from different factories etc etc.
Mine is extremely strong even being plastic, i'm very happy about that so far.
Also it's thin and light and has a big screen.
The iPhone4 has a smaller screen, and its a lot heavier than the SGS.
Additionally, you need to add a cover (bumper, case, etc) around the phone to alleviate antenna issues (granted you don't _need_ but it's very highly recommended), so you lose all the neat design factor.
After exposing her these arguments and showing up the lagfixed phone, let her decide. If she wants the iPhone4 (or Desire HD or what not), then just go for it and ebay the SGS many will buy it.
Just ordered an Atrix yesterday.
It should arrive next tuesday.
I'm using a Samsung Captivate right now. Having an unlocked bootloader is great, but it seems if the phone is s*it, then It will remain s*it no matter what rom you flash to it. I can't understand why a phone with a 1ghz cpu needs a patch to avoid lags. GPS never worked well, and with latest roms it never worked. Last time I had good gps was with JI6, but for some reason, it doesn't work anymore, no matter what rom I flash to it.
Then we have the Inspire 4g. I had that phone in mind before ordering the Atrix, but seeing how s*itty the battery was I decided in favor of the Atrix. Why in the world they put a 1230 mAh battery in a device with a huge 4.3" screen?. What were they thinking?. Also, why only 4gb of internal storage?. These two points were the ones that made me decide against the Inspire. It may have lots of roms avalaible, but it doesn't have good autonomy. So I may have total control of my phone, but It won't stay alive a whole day.
Then we'll have the Galaxy S 2 in a few months. I will never buy a Samsung phone again. Samsung proved to be s*it with my Captivate and almost with all the SGS series.
So I ended buying an Atrix. I really hope it doesn't disapoint me like the Captivate did. I don't care if I can't flash a different rom every week. If everythings work fine out of the box, then I don't see the point to flash it everyday.
What do you guys think?. I've seen lots of threads hating this phone. Threads like "I returned my Atrix for an Inspire". Is the Atrix a good phone?.
I hope I have taken the right decision.
welcome i still have a captivate as backup but there is nothing to compere between these two phones....maybe amoled screen is lil better than atrix one but i got used to it already.

I think you are right. Don't forget the Inspire is a full ounce heavier. I tried handling the Inspire and it was very uncomfortable. Not only that it looked like and felt like a clunker. I really did not like that silver thing at the top or the weight. Definitely not sleek and fashionable. One reason I left the iPhone was the big, square mini computer shape which is kind of like the Inspire. I had a Captivate and was flashing the roms to correct all the difficulties it had. Atrix works out of the box and works very well. It is fast and handles both phone calls and e mail well. It is light years ahead of where the Captivate is at even if you do use all the custom roms. No battery problems with the Atrix. No overheating. No lag. The only way I was able to even come close with the Captivate was when I used Cyanogen Mod 6.1 or Gingerbread. I have a Galaxy S II on order but I may cancel. Atrix is that good.
I would join you and almost did. But i hate locked down phones. Its kinda like leasing a car. But the atrix is still sick. And im sure its great... I do still want one lol.
And please watch the swearing.... We have alot of young users.
Atrix is very fast phone, but camera picture quality is suck
5 days into my switch from the iphone 4 and im still extremely satisfied. Welcome and good luck!!!

I liked the atrix a lot but admit I sold it and am going to give the inspire a try. The battery on the atrix was great.
If you keep the atrix check my signature for a cheap hd entertainment kit. My buyer took just the phone.
Good luck with the atrix.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys. This is very encouraging . I'm not nervous anymore about having bought the phone.

I'm using a Samsung Captivate right now. Having an unlocked bootloader is great, but it seems if the phone is ****, then It will remain **** no matter what rom you flash to it.
I had that phone in mind before ordering the Atrix, but seeing how ****ty the battery was I decided in favor of the Atrix.
Samsung proved to be **** with my Captivate and almost with all the SGS series.

I had mine since the first batch of pre-orders went out...at first I did not like the colors on the Atrix got use to the Captivate OLED..but then I started to really test the phone..movies, calls, web, texting,GPS with Copilot, voice commands..running apps in the background and foreground..I tried by best to find something wrong with the Atrix as it was out of the box..it never glitched..ever.... I was shocked..Captivate would have croaked...and rebooted itself.
Then I said man..the battery on this is runs out really quick..well there is a dual core processor in the thing running at 1Ghz..so I rooted it then applied SetCPU..under clocked...then tried to crash it again...I failed..yes I got some lag after trying to run 5-6 apps in the background and playing a movie with the CPU set to 600hz...but I can tell you it never crashed or rebooted on me...so I say..I can deal with the extra high res screen with natural skin colors and locked boot loader..now I enjoy an average of 80-90hrs on one charge..with normal phone use..and about 45-55 hrs under heavy use...and yes I turn off data mode when not used..now if someone can figure out to switch between 4G/3G down to Edge mode..I think I can increase battery life even more and still have very good performance..with the ability to go full throttle as needed.
One day one of our master developers on this forum or other..will find a way to unlock it..then it will be really game on..
That's my story on the Atrix vs Captivate..

I love the Atrix, u made a great decision
I moved from the Captivate to the Atrix too.
At first I was worried, reading about MotoBlur...screen...etc...
Of course the best way to evaluate a product is to daily-use, at least for me. There's only so much I can read without trying it out the way I would use it.
Got my Atrix on Monday lunch, and I'm getting used to the screen, the power/fingerprint location, MotoBlur stuff...
Wouldn't say it's a perfect phone, but it's enough for my needs
How about the dock kit?
How was the resolution of the atrix?. How was the entertaining kit? -useful or boring?. I have a Nexus one with Gingerbread, runs pretty fast, very good at calls and battery, internet is fast, it have tether. Soo i'm looking for the Atrix for the video out features, HDMI and it's "speed".

I would think speed would be pretty much the same. Just replace Motoblur with a ASOP Gingerbread launcher and use SetCPU, then the Atrix will match the Nexus S for speed.

Well, I did it. Censored the word.
But It seems its pointless, since lots of users quoted me.
I’ll be first
Look's like there is only few people who own this phone, but some threads have 1000+ views, so I wanna know how many off us is waiting for update (or Roms, or sbf to unbrick theirs phones )
Check the other threads, several so far, trying to keep from bricking this one because as soon as my daughter gets to upgrade her phone for free I am giving her this Bravo and I will get something better to play with.
The Bravo platform is a nice phone for your kid, maybe you wife, unless she too is adventurous, but certainly it's not for those who want to mod.
I'm not able to upgrade for a few months but love the bravo. its my first android so prefect but I am not new to modding. really big into jailbreaking and modding iphone and recently my ps3a well but would love to mod the bravo and try new roms. got it rooted debloated and over clocked but it is never enough, right. lol going to keep holding out for an update and for people smarter than me to deliver the tools that will enable us to do so.
I don't have one but my Son does. And I am the guy that roots and enables the goodies on the phones, so I think I count.
I just bought a Bravo and I'm excited to start modifications.
This is my first Android, I've spent a lot of time with WinMo.
I am waiting for 2.2 indeed.
For the madness to begin!
lol
Had mine for a month and love it. Only downside it the camera, but that's why I have a canon. Just saw on the Motorola support forum that they are getting voluteers to test 2.2 before they roll it out.
I AM WAITING FOR 2.2. It's so annoying not being able to do anything with this phone.
I use a Bravo. I want 2.2. Mostly just for flash.
I bought a Bravo, and i stayed exciting when i saw that it has similiar hardware that the Defy.
I hope that came one Good ROM for Bravo like i am seeing ROM's for Defy
I had an iphone 3g for a while, modded the bajesus out of it...fell out of the car one night when my girlfriend wanted to make a late night walmart run...then used my cingular 8125 till I finally broke down and got my bravo in an at&t store....i like it so far...just want to upgrade!!

I love the Bravo; it's an overlooked awesome phone. Here is some inside info Motorola and AT&T had to drop the Bravo from marketing because of conflicts with other phones with lesser power and features and the iPhone 4 had just dropped. The Bravo is no iPhone 4 but it is better than a 3GS and all around it was a better deal, I got mine for free. There are a couple of hardware guys at work that have modified the back of the phone to hold 4 32 GB MicroSD (128 GB) cards crazy! They keep tons of music and movies on the phones. It's a pretty cool setup and should be out soon for the Bravo and the Atrix and other phones. Even a micro SSD 300GB backing for the 4 core Nvidia Phone.
The Future is Bright for the Bravo and Motorola.
Aight...
Okay, so 2.2.1 just got pushed to Bravo. I know Bandroidx is throwing one down. Pretty stoked on this development. Can't wait to see what ya' got Bando!!!
Have one. It's a great little phone!
I've got one, my first smart phone, finally brokedown and replaced my Plam TX
i own a bravo too.
its compact, nice little phone. not too big, not too small. just about right. one major thing i hate about bravo is the atypical shape. :?
I've had my bravo since january. Couldn't stand using my old iPhone 3G anymore. Finally got my phone rooted, overclocked, and rommed two weeks ago. Loving the phone even though I've been having a fair bit of lag if I don't restart my phone once/twice daily, which didn't start at all until after the 2.2 update.

1-2 times a day? Damn. I usually don't have to reboot unless I do something that requires it, but I usually reboot every few days just to keep the phone running fast and smooth.

Same here, I used to reboot nightly, but now I'm doing it every three nights or so. I also don't really notice much difference between pre-reboot and post-reboot.
hope u all enjoy this read.
im going to post my experiences and thoughts with both phones.
not hating on either one, just a clear cut opinion.
I personally first came to android after the Evo came out, i was lucky to get one July 27th. I had the G1 for a couple weeks on Tmo (a long time ago) and i was not impressed.
before that i was a blackberry guy for the longest.
I switched from Tmo to sprint because tmos service went to crap. i drive for a living and i do about 200 miles a day. Tmos service would drop during the drive in the same exact spots where i knew i would lose service. 7 different places to be exact with crappy reception in between.
i figured id try sprint. anyways i stuck with them with a awesome phone the Evo 4g.
The Dev area for the evo is un-real, roms galore, kernel galore, everything is flashable and seems to be very easy to do.
A plus for the evo for sure.
With the right rom/kernel combo along with the seido 3500 battery, it was a incredible phone. Doing anything i needed it to when i needed it. Never having to worry about battery life.
i had no issues with the evo, but i did have to return it due to it overheating and shutting off until cooled (kernel issue and something i did im sure), i got it replaced and was happy as a clam.
As for samsung, i critized them and hated on them every chance i got.
the support for them always seemed to be crap and doing things on them seemed to be not as easy.
well some things happened id rather not discuss and i had to get rid of the evo, i found a Epic on craigslist(may 1st) and it was listed as a "galaxy pro" The guy didnt know what it was, but the pics showed it was a epic. i verified the ESN was clean and picked it up for $65.00!!
Couldn't pass that up at all, besides all that i needed another android, for a couple weeks i was using a beat up blackberry curve 8530 and seemed to be having withdraws lol.
Anyways i fell in love with the sammy as soon as i started playing with it. The screen is just poppy and incredible. it blows the evo screen away easy.
im not fond of slide out keyboards, but i figured with the screen being 4 inchs, id have no issue with adjusting from the evo and its 4.3 inch.
Touchwiz isnt all that bad either, i thought it would be worse, but its not bad at all. Can become adjusted to TWiz or Sense very quickly.
it fits well in my hand, but im too interested in the power button on the side, seems out of place. Really im used to the button up top along with the charger port on the bottom instead of the top, but love the little "door" on the charger port.
Dev area for the Epic is smaller, and a little more "intermediate" then the simple flash and go of the evo.
i miss the evo dev section, but have become used to the epic area and getting the hang of things quickly.
To be honest.
both phones are great, id be happy with either or. With the evo its all in the dev section, with the epic its all in the screen.
i wont be slamming samsung anymore because im just as happy as i was with the evo. i may go back to HTC for the ease of things after the evo 3d or something else comes out.
but im very comfortable with the epic and its a great choice in the android world right along side the evo.
the screen really is amazing. i like the camera better too. sometimes i wish i had a snapdragon phone just for roms, but this whole nexus S thing could change everything. sounds like a fair review to me. just flashed the ACS rom and its pretty damn good. will deffinitly tide me over till GB
I picked up an evo on launch day, broke it and jumped ship to the epic when it launched. While the evo had a better dev community imo, I still enjoy my epic. The screen is really what takes the cake. I could care less about the keyboard so next time I'm in the market for a phone I'm gonna sit back, observe the dev communtiy for a while when the new flagships launch and see what happens. I do love my epic but when it comes down to it, its all about development which I feel the epic lacks compared to the evo. The devs here are amazing, I just feel that things are much slower around here than the evo section. Still though this is a great phone. I've been running the ACS rom for a few days and its flawless. Not to mention I was able to get a day and a halfs worth of battery on it

I really like Touchwiz, I avoid roms that don't support it.
I first got my epic over the Evo because I knew the battery life was going to be much better. I'm not sure if it's really any different or not, I haven't used an Evo many times other than at work (I work with phones). I think the epic is better because of the AMOLED screen. Plain and simple, everything just looks better.

You know i forgot to say anything about the camera itself.
we all know the evo and HTC make ****ty camera drivers , constant complaint even though its a 8mp on the evo.
samsung on the other hand knows what they are doing in this regard.

i completely agree, same thing i was basically saying.
im running syndicate fully loaded myself.
having crappy battery but im trying to address all that as of right now.
My wife has an evo and I have the epic so I do have the luxury of flashing both. Yes the evo development section s is bigger buy there are so many roms they all copy each other. I like the roms hear as they all offer something unique. I also love the Amoled screen and the camera. The epic is faster in both cpu and gpu. They are both awesome phones I just prefer the epic. It is if u like to flash stuff to have an evo though. I can flash all day lol
Sent From My Evo Killer!!
This is what I like to see..a lot of people never give things a fair chance and go off baseless rumors....
For example:
1) Samsung does not support their phones:
This was kind samsungs fault as they promised an 2.0 update to the Behold and then never delivered..said it wasn't possible and only updated to 1.6...from then on everyone made the assumption that Samsung would NEVER update their phones...other manufacturers havent updated their phones either on plenty of occasions..sure its Samsungs fault for not delivering but you can't base everything on 1 occasion...Also a lot of people group "support" and "updating"...Samsung is know for its good support actually..
2) Touchwiz is the devil that lags up the phone and brings nothing
While all UIs add bloat..TouchWiz is not as bad as people make it out to be..most hate TouchWiz received was in the winmo days...and the old Touchwiz was junk..plus the new TouchWiz looks similar to the iphone in the app launcher thus mustering more hate...I wont say TouchWiz is the best UI..but its one of the cleanest UIs I've seen..
I find it Ironic how an HTC device has like 5 issues and people just go oh well..while if samsung has 1 issue people scream how Samsung sucks and they shouldnt have bought it...my only request is that people look at all manufacturers equally without bias and judge based on the overall product fairly..
So its not about who is better HTC or Samsung..its about who is it acceptable to buy from...and at this moment both HTC and Samsung are my options for buying...this gives me more choice...in the future I hope to add LG and maybe Motorola to my "acceptable" list if they meet my standards..and the more manufacturers that meet my standards the more "CHOICE" I have...I expect by the SGS 2 becoming mainstream the community will rival HTC devices in development..
What I really liked about the evo is that EVERYTHING Is flashable.
From radio updates,to pri, to anything you can think of.
You just download it and flash it, so simple.
Kernel support its also great.
thats what I miss most.
Not saying that the epic devs are bad, im loving avs.
But the evo area is def more popular.

can you reiterate? we can flash anything on the Epic as well...
But obviously they have a larger dev base due to:
1) Evo coming out first
2) People choosing HTC just because its HTC
3) Sprint spent their entire budget advertising the EVO while spent nothing to advertise the Epic until it won the pcworld #1 phone award..then they spent a little..
4) Nexus One giving a lot of grounds
5) Devs more used to how HTC does things
Well Odin has to be used for radios and stuff.
We cant simply flash a rom without checking what file system it is, things like that.
They are non existent on the evo.
Along with the whole rfs/ext system thing we don't need to worry about on the evo.

If you use cwm on the evo its basically the same as our epics, edify=cwm3 amend=cwm2. The bonus for the evo is amon RA which can go both ways. Just try flashing gb with cwm2 and well your in trouble.

Your joking right? I have only used odin once to flash the ec05 modem and I've flashed most of the eb13/ec05 roms, kernels, themes, ect. Actually I've flashed all eb13/ec05 kernels and have been on cm7 a1&a4. I avoid odin at all costs, but its always there just in case I goof. So far so good.
Ya. The epics screen is amazing. Im not buying no other device unless its amoled.

The Epic is my first Android phone and I picked it over the Evo for two main reasons.
1) Physical keyboard
I thought I needed a physical keyboard and it turns out I do and I don't. For email/sms Swype works great. However for things like working in the terminal the virtual keyboard just doesn't work for me.
2) The screen.
Don't have to say much here
Overall I've been very happy w/ my Epic. Still need to test out Syndicate but for now rooted w/ the screen rotation lag fix is good enough.

In short, it's still Awesome to me!
The best thing is; there's so many stable ROMs to try, I don't think much of 2013 device has any development going now at all. So yeah I'm pretty satisfied.
I think it is a good phone today, but at this time i can say that only if i have stock debloated rom or cm11, lp roms have too much problems and freezes to use it as daily driver for a long time.
Btw i suggest you to try every single rom on this phone if you are getting to it now

Try CM11 by Bagyusz [v150826] if you haven't yet.
It's the smoothest 4.4.4 ROM I've ever used!
I have never even flashed phone than the SP.
The only reason i still have it, i like the colour lights.
Soooo sloww, android 6 rom fixed it but maybe too late?
I still regret buying it. It has been a disappointment for me from the beginning and has given me so much frustration. Honestly I think this phone actually made my life incredibly hard at the worst moments as if it could sense it. If I would have had a good working stable phone, I think I would have been happier the last two years. I'm not kidding and not exaggerating. I really mean this. So I'm very glad that I'm buying a new phone soon... I just have to figure out which one... But when I have one I'll be throwing this ****ty stupid thing against a wall, kick it a few times and throw it in a fire. I've literally had blue knuckles from hitting this phone hoping it was going to do what I wanted it to do. I even flashed and unlocked it and everything which I don't even want and like to do. And then somehow all roms slow down within a week even without installing anything other than whatsapp which seems to work fine for on phones of my friends. So I might even leave android and go for the new Lumia 950. Anyway, never a Sony again because I'm still blaming them for not giving us a stable stock rom and kitkat. I'm done with them, I'm done with this phone and I might be done with android.
So yeah... that is basically the rage this phone has given me.
edit: usually I'm a really, really calm and patient guy... really... but this phone got under my skin so many times, I can stand some amount of lag, but not this amount. I'm traumatised for life.

Sometimes I don't like how it lags.
But it's cool to use custom Roms on it.
I have it since 2013, but I want to buy a new one, lag free.
as long as i get new ROMS to try .. i love xsp
using one right now, rooted but with JB 4.3 and stock ROM. it gave me quite a headache at first due to some lag/freezing issues. was able to resolve those issues after deleting the built-in Facebook app.
I love it. It might not be the best phone but I love it. It can easily cover my needs ( mainly lots of video streaming) and I recently went back to stock 4.1.2 (from a 5.1.1 rom) that I've modded on my own. I just can't find something really bad to say about this phone. I'll keep using it as my daily driver until it can't cover my needs.
I have been using mine for 2 years and it is still a really good phone, yes it sometimes very occasionally gets the yellow fading and the memory management could be a bit better but in general it does everything you can ever need. Recently I have been a bit a bored though as I have had no justification to get a new phone So just started playing with the lollipop roms. Definitely given it a new lease of life!
Well i have this phone for a little more than 2 years i fell in love with it's compact design and of course the unique illumination bar,
it's still like day one on the outside, i bought it because my Neo V had dropped of my pocket and went to heaven.
But after 2 years i really got bored with,i didn't have many lags maybe because i don't use it more than average but the worst was that the keyboard kept disappearing and it didn't show up.
With XSP i am doing my first steps at heavy modding flashing etc,i remember those day that i was super happy cause i did made it to change the menu icons in my K800i and i was showing of at school ,anyway,i am afraid to get it bricked but i read tons of pages with one purpose the goal for me with custom roms is to find the battery drain, and the stability (ok ... sort of) of the original version, hopefully.
I definitely won't regret buying it, it worth's it's money, i comfortable keeping it even more, and i am still angry with Sony for not getting 4.4kk .
Peace !
I have it since last 2 years. Sold it last month to try Xperia M5, returned M5 (Because its a horrible phone) and re bought my SP with loss of 10 pounds
Best feature Notification LED and yup Gaming on XSP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> M5
very laggy phone, would not recommend it to anyone
