[Q] SMS over bluetooth (To Car Unit) - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dont have the post count requirement to post in the dev. section... so i'm asking here if Team Royal could add the function of using SMS over Bluetooth to the RoyalGlacier ROM.
I love the Ice Glacier ROM, and am planning to flash the Royal version after a couple more updates, but I really miss being able to send SMS' over my car's head unit with my old dumb-phone.
In case there's confusion: I have a Kenwood DDX-812 headunit and it allows sending SMS from the head unit over bluetooth to the phone (which would then be sent to the contact). I used to be able to do this with my old Sony dumbphone, but with this HTC I've lost that feature of my head unit.

Which Android HU in 2017?

Hi guys, I'm looking to update my now outdated Parrot Asteroid Smart with a new head unit. I also have an MTCB unit in the wife's car (now running Malaysk ROM) that has been relatively good other than the terrible Bluetooth call quality all these units suffered.
Looking around these forums, it seems that the choice now is between an Intel Sofia based unit or a PX5 based unit.
My main requirement is good quality Bluetooth calls and voice commands (ie OK Google). I read somewhere that the Intel has a combined BT/wifi chip which allows OK Google directly, but the PX5 does not, is that correct? I want to be able to utilise voice commands to call contacts or phone numbers as I can with the PAS.
Any suggestions on which brands/models?
I have an intel mtcd and i can't use ok Google to place calls.
Ok Google recognizes the name and it seems to perform the call. The call is never performed. Additionally, after trying to perform the call I found that mcu does something strange as it gets frozen on a mute state (I can't hear radio/music, just a soft whistle) until I cold reboot.
Somebody managed to get it work by using a modified tablet talk app. Added the call permission on manifest and forcing Google now using tablet talk to place calls.
I think is the same behavior on both Intel.mtcd and Intel non mtcd (joying and others)
I asked for this issue if was to be solved but hotaudio guy told.me that in China they have a similar app than Google now and it works with calls too.
I don't know what could be different

The Joying Intel Sofia units has a fully featured Bluetooth capability, you can even bring up the stock Android bluetooth settings screen by using an app from this thread. "OK Google" doesn't work out of the box, but there is instructions on how to mod and use Tablet Talk to enable this. The one who made the mod can't distribute the modded APK as it's a paid app, but the instructions are quite simple to follow and is found here.

So both mtcd intel and joying lack for the same functionality (calls by Google now) from stock.
Mtcd can access to the aosp Bluetooth from stock

Correct, but I don't think it's possible to bring up the stock Android Bluetooth settings screen on the MTCD PX5 units, not sure of the Intel Sofia ones. There are several models of the Intel Sofia boards, some with built in wifi, bluetooth, and so on, and others without that so it depends if MTCD uses the one with or without built in BT. Traditionally, in MTCD units and previous models, use a bluetooth module on the "motherboard" which is kind of hacked in and is not fully communicating with the system board, so the Android OS doesn't have direct control over it. On the Joying Intel units (and maybe MTCD with Intel), the BT is on the CPU board itself, allowing Android to directly control it which is why we're also able to bring up the stock Android settings screen for BT. But for some reason, Joying and I guess the MTCD people as well, has removed the Bluetooth entry from the stock Android settings app, but with the simple apk from the thread I linked, it can be opened with no issues. I've used it to manage my BT connections rather than the awful Bluetooth caller app they included... You still need to make use of the default caller app in some ways, as it seems to be deeply integrated, and I haven't found a good way to automatically sync the Contacts from my Google account yet, all the unit wants to do is to delete all my contacts when I try to sync, which is weird... I sideloaded a Contacts apk, but it didn't really work.. I guess someone would have to dig deeper into the OS in order to get full functions from the Google dialer and contacts apps, which would be cool but probably unlikely. But I am pretty sure this is the same on all the units, don't think any of the head units supports the use of Google dialer or contacts.
Mtcd can open aosp bluetooth screen...but for paring you nees the customized screen in which you change the pin of the bt device to pair with.
On aosp screen I can see which bt devices are paired
Similar issue with contacts in mtcd Intel....I can't sync my Google account contacts...only few numbers (without any logic pattern) are synced and the rest not.
I downloaded contacts app and I gan get all the Google accounts contacts but I can't use them for calling (once I mod the tablet talk app I could do)

Xtrons PS96MTVL for VW Passat - telephone app - newbie

I have installed a Xtrons unit PS96MTVL to my 2010 Passat.
I would like to use a different app to manage phone calls, the stock one is awful. But I can not make any other dialer work, looks like stock one is the one managing phone calls and I can not override it. Any help?

Xtrons PX5 bluetooth problems

Having finally given up trying to pair my Doogee S60 phone with my Xtrons TE103P head unit can i simply download all my phone contacts to the head units SD card and use the phone that way? Or does it have to be through BT? Apologies for the question i'm not particularly tech-savvy and what with a host of other problems with this head unit, one of the principal reasons for purchasing it in the first place was to utilise the phone function so i don't get nicked again for using my phone whilst driving so if this function doesn't work its almost pointless having the thing.
Any help much appreciated
Roger (UK)
I have the same unit too. To be able to make or receive phone calls you will have to be connected to Bluetooth unfortunately. My phone pairs ok but I have obd 2 units that will not be found. Same as on TE103AP. Bluetooth problems seem to be common with Chinese headunits.

I have one problem
a telephone connected to the PX5 station does not display all contacts from the address book
refreshing randomly loads contacts into the station, e.g. contsacts start from the letter S only (I cant see contacts from A to R for example only from S to Z)
other times contacts start from the letter T etc.
What could be the reason for incorrect loading of contacts from the phone?

Using Android Head Unit as Android Car "Car"

Hello mates,
maybe it's a stupid question, but I couldnt find a solution yet. Hoping for your help.
Is it possible to use the px5/px3 head unit as an android car "car"?
I would like to connect my smartphone via USB or BT to the head unit and Android Car should recognize it as a car. So my Android headunit will receive and display informations like Whatsapp, Spotify, etc. from my smartphone. Like in my KIA, Audi or similar.
I dont mean some "Screen Mirroring" apps like EasyConnect or other similar things where I have to start an app on my android headunit itself and on my mobile Phone.
Looking forward to your answers,
Sebastian

Upgrading the UI on my new aftermarket Android head unit (2010 Chevy Camaro)

Hi all! I recently purchased a Chinese imported Android 11 GT6 aftermarket head unit for my 2010 Chevy Camaro. It's a Tesla style unit that fits perfectly into my car system. It connects up to all of my a/c controls, steering wheel controls, speakers, the old gauges that came with the car, and basically everything else the original stereo unit connected to. It also offers wifi, 4G internet, GPS, wireless Apple CarPlay, and a host of other features.
I have attempted to speak with the seller of this unit, but I feel there may be a language barrier and at best, he's only a seller and doesn't have technical knowledge about the software. In the attached photos, I am wanting to update the UI (user interface) to one that I am seeing in other head units like the one I have purchased. I know this is possible, but am not sure how to achieve this result. The first attached photo is what mine currently looks like. The second photo is the UI I am wanting to upgrade to. I am also included the technical specs screenshot from my unit, as this may help. Perhaps someone here in the forums has information as to how to make this upgrade, or who I could contact to learn more about doing this.
This is my first post, and I thank you so much for any help you guys can provide.
Jeremy Peace
