Just a quickie...haha My wifes ipad will run iphone apps, it just blows them up and it looks like a$$. Does anyone with an android tab know how this works with android apps? Are all apps pretty much for all android devices?
Google has taken into account a "Fragmentation API" this will ensure that all apps off your phone will work and look good on your xoom.

But, this is assuming the app has been coded using the new SDK. It does not automatically take in to account apps that have been coded for Froyo or before.
My guess is that it will be the same as the iPad. Until the app is made specifically for large screen devices, it will be like blowing up a low resolution image.
This is kind of stupid. there should be an option to resize it or just center it. I got a g tablet and it is horrible that some apps just get to the left corner but the controlls get where ever they want. Some apps are unusable with this kind of things. I bet that some apps for froyo will do the same thing on the xoom if the same thing happens and it get resized by default.

On the ipad you have iphone size which is centered or 2x...2x looks like a$$ and I didn't buy a 10 in screen to look at a cell phone sized app. Thanks for all the replies.

yep, it would look like a$$, but it is much better to have a centered app than an unusable app. XD
i will add this question to "for those on the borderline, what do you want to know" thread
Android scales apps. So for something like a music player it will probably look like ass. For a game it will scale very well and should look relatively OK until they update the graphics to fit the resolution the Xoom is hitting.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMJpkQ2flss
That should show you approximately what will happen.

Yep some of them do, but they are usually the high quality apps like angry birds and tank hero. Some other´s, many, just get deconfigured in the screen or just force close.
Hope honeycombs fix this in an inteligent way. I agree that games might not be playable, but many apps that can be just not resized and used well enough.
Cheers for honeycomb.
Hoping once its hacked up, i can run lcd density on it also
App developers are already updating their apps to Xoom resolution, like SpeedX.

The apps look fine. The only thing that would look like ass is really low quality, low resolution images. The phone scales properly made elements so apps coded right will scale. They might not utilize the space properly.. but they wont look bad. I used ES File Explorer and it scaled really well.. and a comic reading app was perfect.
So what does this do....

With AWD Launcher i now get a screen with 6 x 6 (columns, rows). I finally get to use the big screen on the Desire HD.
Compatability?
Well i have no idea what sense would do and themes may have issue alone with some apps.
i know that Camera360 Ultimate don't like this until you run in hardware compatibility mode.
But ill never go back to ro.sf.lcd_density=240
This command is in the build.prop file located in the system folder. I recommend 'Root Explorer' for editing. And its all done at your own risk, always backup
FYI, i even did this to my Desire, not HD, and its just brilliant.
I also run at 200dpi, I find if you take it any lower that compatibility starts to become an issue and some games don't look nice in 70% screen usage. Personally I use ES File Explorer to do the editing of build.prop
wont sense be incompatible with this dpi setting?
that screen is so cluttered. I like mine to be open with everything big, easy to see and press. Plus the app drawer is where I keep most my apps
reminds me of an iphone

I'm running CleanDHD which comes with 190 DPI, and i love it. My screen is way bigger now!
Have found three small glitches, but apps and games runs perfectly.
Confirm that troubles occurs with Camera360 but it's usable. Another application having problems with DPI=190 is CalWidget... it just displays an exception instead of my agenda....

can you send the Camera360 dev an email explaining what happens. i don't think that they understood what i was on about
Could you also test wide screen shots with zoom, full zoom or half zoom. I found that it crashes the app at dpi 240 or 200 for me.
cheers,
To save editing the build.prop you can download lcd density changer from the market. A bit easier I find.
I found that sense worked at 190dpi with a glitch on the lockscreen.

the problem with LCD density changer
is that the change doesn't survive reboots, where as changing build.prop does.
I may have missed something but can't get Camera360 crash...
2 other app that are not perfect :
- the stock dialer is too small the dialer part
- freecell has problems too

I have LCD Density changer 5.3 and works perfect for me. Even with a reboot.
I don't see myself going above 180dpi anymore, I just love the screen estate I get with this. Also looks much cleaner.
This is with dpi on 170 and I'm thinking of going lower, the keyboard stays the same size so I go nothing got lose
Not sure how many gamers are here, but TigerArcade is a great Neo Geo, Capcom and Cave emulator. Plays all games smooth with sound- even on my Incredible at stock speed.
The app scales to the display on the gTablet, but is a small window on the A500. The Acer does have more resolution, but not a difference enough to for a small windo on the Acer. The app should scale anyway.
Seems this may be a Honeycomb issue, but that assumes other Honeycomb tabs have the same issue.

I got this phone yesterday and I must say it looks gorgeous. I set It up adding my emails, widgets etc and then experienced a lot of lag while scrolling on the social hub widget, even the Internet browser takes ages to load and struggles while scrolling.
I'm really unhappy now as my gs2 didn't face such an issue and i was expecting this to be smoother considering it has a faster processor.
I don't want to root this phone for security reasons.
Is anyone experiencing this issue and is there a solution?
Any info would be helpful.
Thank you.

What widgets are you using?
I have about 15 icons, weather widget and digital clock wiget on one screen and nothing on any of the other screens.
Hmmm that might be the problem. I'm using widgets on every screen. I've gone a bit widget bonkers! Having said that I had the same widgets on the Galaxy S2 and didn't suffer lag issues.
I have rooted and am waiting for some decent ROMS to appear, I'm sure that will fix???

Hi
Hi friends.
I also notice lag and Im using the stock launcher and with almost no widgets.
Apart from the screen issues that one will notice if he uses the devise for reading.
I had the SGS2 before and the difference is noticable.
Such a pitty for such a promising devise.
I changed screen density and only use one screen with go launcher set to have 7x7 grid size. I have 2 widgets, Weather and BBC News, I use upward swipe to open app drawer and not noticed lag at all when in use but I do get around a 1/2 to 1 second delay when pressing power or home to wake the device. Not the end of the world but would be cool if it was instant like the S2.

It's the same on my Samsung Galaxy S2 and it's never changed so I wouldn't worry about it.
There were some threads on the SGS2 forum about ideas on how to fix it if I remember rightly.
I love my note but i would have to agree that SG2 is faster compare to note . ( that make ppl feel like the note is laggy as they have used SG2 before )
؟؟؟
thank God the device is super fast....there is no lag at all.....just hard-reset the device and enjoy it
Launcher Pro is much smoother on my Note than ADW...
ADW EX is lightning fast with density hack at 240, all the others lagged.
Obviously mine is rooted. Also using Roboto font.
I have lag
I am comparing when zooming out all the home screens and then selecting one. The animation is faster and smoother on a HTC 4G. ALSO, sometimes when waking the phone the screen will flash the unlocked screen for a second before the lock screen appears ie see your messages app then you see the lockscreen and have to unlock the phone. I just reset the phone thinking this would help but it didn't. Coming from the iphone I am sad that everything isn't backs up like the iphone without rooting. This lag is more picky than a problem. I don't understated lag when the phone is so powerful.

Yeah I agree, I don't understand the lag with such a powerful device. I suppose it is possible that Samsung has used cheaper, slower dram in this phone. Even the Plus animation when the phone boots micro-stutters. Of well, hopefully in a month we can get our hands on the Nexus.

That's the nature of Android, because so many manufacturers can use it, developers need to program apps for all of them in mind and seeing they all have the potential to utilise different hardware you can't expect a developer to be able to foresee these things.
What we need to do is just put a request to the developers and ask if they can make it compatible with the Notes graphics card/drivers making it lag free.
This is exactly why virtually all native Samsung apps run fantastic, because their devs know the hardware and drivers hence know how to get full potential.
What would fix this is every time Google releases a version like ICS they should state exactly which hardware will be ALLOWED to run on this platform. But then you lose the openness.
It's a double edged sword, you have to take the good with the bad..
This is unfortunately where apple shines with the iphone because they make the OS and the device. If they just loosened up on their OS a little then we wouldn't be talking here

The Note will ONLY get better with each update/support from either Samsung or our beloved developers.. And that's a one way direction.. O)nly better..
Guys the reason for the lag is the constant downclocking of the cpu to 800 or 500mhz as well as unnecessary services apps running in the background. I believe it can be optimised..

Not really, mines rooted and have uninstalled all uneeded apps. Although adw doesn't lag anymore, other apps do like Facebook and even ES file explorer.
There is a dedicated gpu which isnt utilised for most of the apps which lag, this is the problem at hand.
The iphones been running a sub 1ghz cpu and less than 1gb of ram for long before android adopted them, but doesnt share the same issues.
But as stated it can only get better from here.

Agreed in some respects...
Have you installed AnTuTu CPU master?
I have noticed that when the CPU is operating at 800mhz everything lags.
When I force the CPU to 1400mhz using AnTuTu the lag is present for the first homescreen swipe in ADW EX (DPI 260) then it's smooth as butter.
I have also observed this behaviour in launcher pro.
A guy on here recommended using BetterBatteryStats to possibly locate the apps/background services that are unnecessary hogging the CPU.
Fully agreed on the Iphone performance - but that is clearly due to software strictly tailored for hardware.
Android requires brute force due to software required to work on multiple devices
Gotta say tho my Galaxy Tab 7 (First Gen) with overcome is way faster in general operation than the Note... Until I force the processor to stay at 1400mhz - then it just flies.
Clearly the Note has a lot of potential.
Hi, I changed the DPI from 240 on original CM10 to 480 or 320 (320 I think is much better) and the NHD+ is running much smoother and all the icons, fonts, look right.
If anyone interested try. With root explorer go to system, find build.prop, open it with text editor, change the density DPI from 240 to 320 save and exit, reboot and done. Or get a density changeling app from Google play.

Maybe that is why I never suffer any of the issues that others suffer. I have run at 320 since the first verygreen CM10/CM10.1's came out months ago. It is just the way I like it since my first tablet was a Galaxy Tab 7" and the icon and text sizes match that.

Wow, after running on 240 for so long, changing to 320 makes everything seem magnified...like, so my grandma could read it. Also less real-estate to work with.
I think i prefer 240, but thanks for the tip.
I guess a one third increase would look pretty big. I like the current size, but can appreciate others liking bigger. Not noticing the unsmooth issue with Nova, but DID notice it with the default launcher in CM 10.1 and also with stock 2.1 (even when using Nova).

We are running omap4470 at the far end of it's capabilities, it seems. Same sort of issues are present in Kindle Fire HD 8.9 (also omap4470 chip with 1920x1200 panel).
There are no problems in stock launcher on Nook HD that has same 4470 chip, but much smaller 1440x900 panel.
It's a lot more pixels to push around, I noticed it on the HD+ as soon as I picked it up compared to the HD.
Usually even overclocking the CPU has little effect, but if we can oc the gpu and make it scalable it might actually make a difference.
I still need to learn more about omap chips, there doesn't appear to be a freq table like with msm chips, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places though. Can't even find any relevant commits on github, but again I'm probably looking in the wrong places.

Tegra 3 has the same issue, based on TF700 performance and Anandtech analysis. They actually found the 4470 more capable as far as cpu (this explains why HD+ is better with MAME) and for Flash and web browsing.
I prefer the HD+ with CM over the TF700 and stock Asus firmware. Seriously, and I am a picky person.

it's in ach/arm/mach-omap2/opp4xxx_data.c, sadly a lot of them are running from a fixed clock so there's no easy way to actually bump them.
If we switch dpll_per clock for dpll_core for clocking bb2d and sgx cores, that should yield about 4% boost, that's about the easiest thing I see, though so far kernel does not want to agree with me about changing the parent clock

It certainly can, on my last tablet the dpi I liked made most apps incompatible. I would just grab them on my phone and then use titanium backup to make a copy for the tablet.
I gave 160dpi a try. Text gets *really* small.
If we use standard dpi's like 240, 320, 480 then go top settings/applications find the play store and clear the catch, then open play store and that's all it shouldn't be a problem.

Be careful doing this on stock with apps like DPI Changer. My HD+ went into the boot loop and restored itself to factory, now I have to go through the hassle of rooting, redownloading all my apps and stuff, and setting everything up again.
