First let me just say that I am aware of Battery Tool and it is very useful, but after looking and searching many threads, having gone to the windows phone 7 development and hacking thread and other phones which have WP7, I cannot find any applocation tile which just displays the battery percentage, is they any? If not, how would one go about designing one?
Don't think you can at the moment. WP7s api was shipped with this feature missing. Will have to wait for updates, probably ManGo late this year.

Thanks for that, would be a useful tool to have. Trying to see how the battery is behaving, getting weird patterns, some days, with very heavy usage, I get a good 12 hours usage with at least 40% left. Now, today, been using the phone for a few hours, not heavy usage and 40% has gone, restarted the phone as the battery percentage is not always accurate and got the same reading.
as he said, there isnt any API available to get this information
as for your battery, WP7 was not ment for your device, in short it doesnt have a clue what its doing, you battey may appear full but probably isnt, charging externally is just about the only way to be sure, do not assume windows knows what its doing because it doesnt, any battery tool for our device would have the same problem, i think the answer is quite simple, if you want a zero hassle device that lasts a good amount of time, then buy a real one, cuz the HD2, dispite its brillience has its issues that are unlikely to be fixed.

It there isn't how does the Battery Tool app get the battery information?
Need battery app, if it can work with hd2 android it should work with hd2 wp7, wp7 is more a fit than android for the hd2.

well its a hunch, but given that HTC make the thing im guessing they know how to access the information directly from the battery controller, its also worth pointing out that the HTC tools need side loaded, you can not access them in a usual manor.
this also explains why the battery tool along with WP7 its self doesnt know what the hell its doing with regards to the battery because both teh tool and WP7 believe its not our hardware

It's not much of a hunch and doesn't explain anything, if they can do it others can too. I can see my WP7 battery percentage displayed on my PC and I can see it displayed on my WP7 and the software I'm using is not written by HTC or by Microsoft. So it can be done.

That has nothing to do with anything! I have apps that can only be loaded by side loading. It just means its not available in the market place
Just going through the touchexperince beta forums and one user asked if Julien could display the battery % on a live tile and his response is:
"Unfortunately there is no multitasking so I can't provide real time info like battery or signal to the tile when TouchXperience is not running."

It is exactly a hunch, its a thought, its a posibility, its my belief. your asking for an app that is available to use as a tile, as it stand only MS has access to auto updating tiles, the API that allows access to the battery information is not available to anyone, however if you build the thing then its likely you would have the knowledge to access the information outside of the "microsoft domain" of control. you have an App that shows battery info on your WP7 that isnt made by HTC or MS then please let me know what it is, likewise, what is the program that you have on your PC that isnt made by HTC or Microsoft that allows access to your battery information? just curious.
The side loading is very relavent, it limits what access you have to the system, as it stands because MS doesnt give access to battery information you would need to bypass microsoft, hence you would need to side load the application which is exactly what the HTC battery tool has to do.
The 2 programs are TouchExperience and Windows Phone Device Manager. They're not released just yet but keep a look out at www.touchxperience.com for more information.

intresting, i stand corrected, i just got it yesterday myself, but the application does need to be side loaded.
it must be getting to info in the same manor as HTC tool, ie directly as there is no API to access it via MS which makes sence since it needs side loaded.
oh im guessing the desktop is pulling the info from the client app it installs.

I know you can download different today plug-ins, and i know about VisBar and such, but I don't see how your today screens look so different from mine (after looking at various 'today screen' threads).
My screen is just several horizontal lines, with the usual "no new messages", "active tasts", etc, and a couple of plugins.
I see people's screens with a completely different layout.
Cheers for any replies

Thanks for the link, very helpful.
How do you get rid of only the bottom toolbar in WM5? I downloaded the program that other people had used, but I could only get rid of the top bar (which i'd prefer to keep), and not the bottom one.
Cheers
matheprat: If you're referring to the program ToggleToday, I haven't released it yet for WM5, but it's coming very soon.

If you need an alternative, try Wisbar Desktop Advance.

Note: Wisbar 2 or desktop is very very laggy
Use PPX instead if you want better speed, its just as good as WisDesktop.
This is the skin I m currently using
Does PPX work on WM5? Looking on their website it doesn't mention specific compatibility, but has anyone got it runniung satisfactorily?
Cheers,
Fin
Yes, I forgot to mention PPX. It takes quite a bit of headscratching to get it set up, but it works well in the end. Never tried it on WM5.

Many thanks
There's so many program's out there that can change the way you're today screen looks
- PocketBreeze

- RescoExplorer
- and many more
I'm still looking for a alternative interface for my phone to operate more easily with my fingers instead of my stylus.
It's so hard to quickly find a contact in my contact list while on a bike, in my car, etc since the scrollbar is like 3 pixels wide. Or to lock the phone or close an application, the icons are to frigging small
Not that I have big hands, rather small for a guy even but still...
Any suggestions?
matheprat: not sure when it'll be released, when I get time!
I'm working on too many other things as well, it's really just when I get a few minutes to work on each bit. Hopefully release fairly soon, as I said, WM5 is done, I need to join it to my old WM2003 code and then check it against a companion today plugin I wrote. Quite a bit of behind the scenes stuff involved

I didn't mean to come accross pushy, sorry if I did. I know there's a lot of work needed in developing programs, and no doubt it will be worth it when it is released.
Many thanks
matheprat: no offence taken at all, didn't think you were being pushy.
ToggleToday was one of the first programs I ever wrote, and then I bought myself a Universal to start development on, but accidently wrote VJBigPhone and that kept me busy for a month or so
Now VJBigPhone has gone quiet, I'm finally getting around to re-writing ToggleToday! It's a messy program to write, particularly for dual WM5/WM2003 compatibility, but the basic code is written. Now I'm wrapping it together and will work on a GUI for it.

The MOST stable Today Information plugin eva
By the way, can someone recommend the most stable Today Information Plugin?
I was using latest PowerLevel plugin by ScaryBear but it has lots of memory allocation/deallocation problems. Then I switched to simple 15Kb "TodaysInfo" plugin by Lou Terrailloune (v1.7) and it is quite stable but it has significant rendering delays when rotating screen. So, what is the most stable/fastest one to show battery/memory levels and perhaps it can inform you when your battery charge completed (aka PowerLevel/AudioInformer)?
Thanx!!!
Sounds good - any chance of a link?

Screen estate is "expensive" - the person who finds out how to get rid of it will be my hero for quite some time :twisted:
I'll pitch in 5 bucks(USD PAYPAL).
I got $5.00 on it as well. I haven't upgraded to the latest rom because of this.
I am happy to join the list of wanters
I have been looking around some places and have a thought...... in the o2 Extended ROM there is a CAB file called "Signed_Remove_BatteryIcon.sa.CAB" I can't run this at the moment as I am at work and dont have a sync cable with me......
Anyone know what this CAB does? Can anyone try this before I get home?
The CAB is in the o2 zip on the FTP site, under Extended_ROMs -> o2
This is likely to be the cab that removes the battery icon from the Tray (bottom of Today Screen). This is where the battery indicator lived pre-AKU2 on many devices.
Just so people know, all the tweaks/hacks out thyere right now for this only removes the icon when in other programs, not out of the tray when at the today screen.

Correct.
We need to figure this battery thing out... Is it HTC that releases the ROMS or does Qtek and Imate make their own?
Microsoft delivers the OS and APIs/SDK. More than likely, this is a change by MS. HTC adds the HTC-hardware specific drivers and basic hookups (e.g. all default button functionality, what to do when a built-in keyboard is activated, etc.). All the others do the branding, extrom composition, what's extra in the box, etc.
In the end, I guess somebody might post a quick message on one of the windows mobile MSDN blogs to see what the thought behind this change was, and whether it can be undone in any way.
My guess is that you'll have to roll back to the previous battery driver in order to get rid of it. If someone knows how to extract the driver from the first rom and put it into the second, we might get somewhere.

Look it up on accuweather.com and add to the xml file in the today and world folders (see forum on Home 2 homepage for more detailed support)
You have to play with the x and y values in order to get the correct position on them world map.
Battery drains a lot quicker than TF3D unfortunately. Barely used it today and after 12 hours I have like 30% battery left...
20 minutes internet, checking a few sms/emails that's it...
No match for TF3D...
Don't get me wrong, PointUI 2 is an excellent piece of software, but like so many other interfaces I've tried in the past, I find myself switching back to TF3D within the hour.
TF3D has it's faults, sure... but the fact that I keep on using it, even with the choice of so many other UI's says everything. Of course, it's all down to personal taste

I'm using Home2 a couple of hours now and the battery use isn't that bad. Also it is much faster than TFL3D.
Please remember it is a beta version and they still working on it.
I agree with you emil, the battery life isn't bad at all...TF3D isn't so much better consumption-wise, it is more practical and useful, but after some time of use it's performance falls drastically (memory % increase/leak too) and it starts to feel slugish...no matter what...we'll see how it's going to be with Home 2, but so far so good...I miss music player, proper alarm/battery display and some option panels but I guess we'll get there soon.
I experimented and cooked Home 2 in lite (no manila) rom and it's working like it should...
addon
and the best thing is that Amazing scripting support! you can easy build addon's and Themes
Its a nice UI, but frankly..TF3D is way better,but of course this is my opinion... going back to TF3D

just disable standby when cradledi the power setings. get a black bakground. you can use any "standard" home screen ro HTC home or manila ove titanium.
You can also change the clock fonts or graphics for any of those programs.
the lock screen would probably be your best bet as the .cpr would be the easyest to change with the font size and type.
I think it's a decent idea. I might tackle that once I get some other projects done. epecally since my screen dims after a while.

I think pTravelAlarm is what you are looking for. I have been using it for a couple of years without any complaints. It won't keep the device screen up, it follows the device settings, so, if you want to keep the screen on all through the night, modify the device settings.

just for your info: charging a battery when device is on is not good for the battery itself.
reason: when the battery is full, i will start draining. Immediately, the charging jumps in.
You will have unreasonable amount of chargings, which is limited for every battery.

I agree about Galarm. If GAlarm has larger clock font, I would stick with it but its just too small to see in middle of night and especially for a half-assed blind man like me.... (no glasses or contacts, makes Galarm really hard to see in middle of the night).
Hi there
so I should not have asked this as a Q/A thread. I was hoping with the update they may have fixed the issue but no such joy. Hopefully someone has a work around or a fix:
I have been looking for a replacement for my Moto X Pure (because I am idiot and lost it). I liked the specs and the price of the Axon7 (having an support for an external SSD won me over vrs One Plus). Anyways I should have checked here first as there is a serious limitation for my use case. I use my phone for my work. Due to the way the work policies were setup we have to enable the password for Android start up. And as some of us have found out the hard ware that option is NOT supported with the current OS on the phone. From what I have read the phone is pre-encrypted so this option was removed.
My question (I know finally) was is there any way to get the start Android password working? I heard something about the un-locked boot loader but not sure if that is the ticket. I am not sure why the folks at ZTE removed that feature/option. Without getting this option re-enabled I have no choice but to send this phone back (take advantage of the 30 day money back guarantee) and look for something else... other than that I really like this phone! As always thank you XDA members!
Here is what I am seeing:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
But when you try to touch to change the setting, it takes you to the area where you set/reset your screen lock password. And you get stuck in that loop.

From all I have seen, the startup password protection is not present on the ZTE rom. You can hit up the official forum mods for an answer, give them the app that is causing this so it can be verified. There are instances where people were prompted for password on startup after installing and wiping in TWRP. This is most likely the Android Device Manager suspicious behavior protection based on wording of the prompt
http://en.miui.com/thread-324522-1-1.html But i don't think this can be made a permanent prompt

thanks for the info. I ended up calling ZTE tech support on this issue. And after some digging they came back to me with "this is a know issue and we are working on it with no ETA yet" reply. So hopefully that will get some traction. The personal question is do I want to wait for them to fix it? Or should I return and get something else to support the cooperate work needs. But that is more of a personal question I have to answer... Thank you again!
Same problem here - I would buy this device but work requires the PIN (and no root) so currently not able to purchase. This and the lack of T-Mobile Wifi calling in current builds are the big blockers for me. I don't have trust to purchase until both are addressed. Hopefully that is soon as the new Google "Pixel" phones next week (despite the higher likely cost) are the alternative option to me right now.
This is far fetched, but some removed settings like screen on time are accessible through custom launcher activities like SOT. Maybe worth a shot?

Use ampere for play store for app usage.
Can anyone with a device confirm if that app provides access to the settings and this works?

are you saying you can an app maybe able to provide access to this "missing" or removed encryption password to start settings?
