Pointui Home 2 Free is now available http://pointui.com/

I've been using it some hours now and it really is very good. Of course it needs some polishing, but the whole application is very responsive and the feeling overall is very positive. Bigger weather database would be awesome, but anyways...it looks like TF3D has some serious alternative...

May be a stupid question or a case of not Reading the Fine Manual, but how did you get the temperature in °C in PointUI ?

I am a little bit disappointed
Nothing special to say here...
Pointui Home 2 is not better then TF3D, but keep trying folks ,maybe some day

it's a nice UI but 18MB is a lot on the memory

It was there by default...I guess it has something to do with your regional settings...in weather panel, the temperature is displayed in Fahrenheit and it cannot be changed to C, as far I know...

again no unicode support - that sucks

15mb of memory used by pointUI here on my diamond...
...and my battery was never drained so fast as did with this app running.

can some one plz poste a working cab for the diamon, some reason it wont install on my device.
cheers

Found the answer on the official forum, you have to edit the Accuweather URLs in the xml config files (no global setting).

you have to change the metric=0 in the link to accuweather to metric=1
in the \Program Files\Home2\AppletRibbon\Today\Cities.xml
and for the world plugin: \Program Files\Home2\AppletRibbon\World\Cities.xml
In the same line of where city that you want to chose
PS: edit the Cities.xml with note

Im really liking it, using pocket player as my media player alternative, expect when I press play on my car radio it launches windows media player which is annoying. My battery life seems to be as good if not better on this to be honest.

finally got it installed...only problem now is adding the toen i live in. if someone cud kindly do it for me i would be much abliged.

Look it up on accuweather.com and add to the xml file in the today and world folders (see forum on Home 2 homepage for more detailed support)
You have to play with the x and y values in order to get the correct position on them world map.
Battery drains a lot quicker than TF3D unfortunately. Barely used it today and after 12 hours I have like 30% battery left...
20 minutes internet, checking a few sms/emails that's it...

No match for TF3D...
Don't get me wrong, PointUI 2 is an excellent piece of software, but like so many other interfaces I've tried in the past, I find myself switching back to TF3D within the hour.
TF3D has it's faults, sure... but the fact that I keep on using it, even with the choice of so many other UI's says everything. Of course, it's all down to personal taste

wallpaper for touchui
ive made a wallpaper that fits the grid quite well if anyone wants it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482157

I'm using Home2 a couple of hours now and the battery use isn't that bad. Also it is much faster than TFL3D.
Please remember it is a beta version and they still working on it.

I agree with you emil, the battery life isn't bad at all...TF3D isn't so much better consumption-wise, it is more practical and useful, but after some time of use it's performance falls drastically (memory % increase/leak too) and it starts to feel slugish...no matter what...we'll see how it's going to be with Home 2, but so far so good...I miss music player, proper alarm/battery display and some option panels but I guess we'll get there soon.
I experimented and cooked Home 2 in lite (no manila) rom and it's working like it should...

addon
and the best thing is that Amazing scripting support! you can easy build addon's and Themes

Its a nice UI, but frankly..TF3D is way better, but of course this is my opinion... going back to TF3D

Animated Today Screens

Hey all, dunno if this should really be wizard specific, but here goes...
I'm looking for a way to apply an animated background to my today screen, using a single GIF file. I'm not sure if it is possible myself, but the flash ones soak up so many processor cycles, on an already limited device... I have run a basic search, but i've not come up with anything other than how to use one as a sort of screensaver.
Would be nice to have some slowly animated backgrounds, like the ones I stole off my mum's new w950i (which is also very nice, although not a scratch on the wizard).
Hope someone can help, thx

Hi
iwould appreciate something like this aswell, but another thing that would be awsome is Animated caller ID or mayb if we can set short .mp4 or 3gp or .wmv file to playback a video instead of just a picture!! i no that on my symbian devices i can do it with a third party application, it has the ability to associate a .3gp as the file for a specific caller then a music video plays instead!!!!.

i suspect that FaceLift is just embedding an HTML control on the today screen. Can be very resource heavy for the solution. There are better apps for that job...

I am testing activetoday (diff from facelift), any recommendations V?
EDIT Activetoday works v nicely, only 47kb install and takes 200kb ram. I would consider buying
EDIT2 Seems a little buggy - you have to soft reset after each change of animated gif, but still good Still works after standby etc....
I don't know if it's actively developed anymore, but there's an app called SideX which I think is great. Lets you float keyboards, plugins etc.

That came with a great today screen html plugin, but it probably does no more then the one you mentioned - however, in the SideX package you get a ton of other features with it....

Great design. i like it
And i don't mind it's in dutch
I'm not (yet) into the plugin you use, is there a way that you could edit the script so that it will show the weather in the home screen nice and sleek so that it will fit's into your skin ?
And the alarm on /off can it co-operate with pocketalarm ?
Greetz,
Weather for rlToday skins can be found at the rlToday forum (link is on my webpage).
I don't use pocketalarm so I wouldn't know. If Pocketalarm has a setting somewhere in the register, Mortscript could read the register key and know if it's set or not... so then it would be possible to make that co-operate somehow.
Looks very good. But for me as a noob it´s to much work to change everything to wwe (i´m german, but i use wwe-rom. So everything should be the same! ).
But you did a good work at all!

ill convert to wwe with permission and add a link to the wwe edition here but only with permission from Focaldesign.... please oh and a quick question is the hole cube changed like favorite people video music and photo tabs?
Ofcourse you have permission... go ahead!
No sadly I accidently deleted my blanc cube icon and right now I'm drowning in work, so absolutely no time to remake the standard button. If I ever find the time, I'll get to that, but now I'm having too many deadlines coming up.

oh and i forgot to say im increasing the size of the clock and removing the date and the alarm to the right of the clock and i im making the blue part of the background longer to fit the clock.... i have one question what is the name of the coding you did for this because im thinking of going to school for it honestly i love doing this stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
sorry for the double post i forgot to mention i will upload all three editions that im doing!! one with a bigger clock and no appointments and tasks, one with normal clock and no appointments and task and an original copy but in wwe...

well for an update i have converted the original over to wwe.
i have made a version with a larger clock and the blue gradiant in the background has been extended to fit also i have removed the date and AM,PM and centered the clock in the gradiant.
i have made an original with no appointments and no tasks
and i have made one with a larger clock and extended gradiant, with appointments and task, in wwe and its also avaliable in danish...

Looks good, are trying to make this for rlToday?
i have no idea. i literally opened up photoshop and did my thing. i need all your know-how from here on out, if you guys would use it.
Not bad IMO - original concept/layout.
I'll tell you the easiest, and best way to customize this, would be the new WAD2. It's $10, you won't regret it, trust me.
Great design. I would use it, but the only issue I would have is the weather. I am in love with Rumball's weather icons so I like to use that in weatherpanel as my weather program.
Well, we could use whatever weather icons we want, I'd assume, right?

i can add functionality to all the buttons and make the clock function as well?
not for nothing thats pretty sick! awesome job!

What are the cresents on either side of the clock?
I can do the majority of this using rltoday. Only things I wouldn't be able to do are:
-alarm notification. I know there's a way to do it using mortscript but I don't know the code.
-the battery indicator can be done using sys-2-reg. not hard but another program to install.
-the volume button would just link you to the volume control or maybe toggle between mute/loud?
-the signal and connection indicators I couldn't do.
-there's a weather mort script on the rltoday site that I could use.
-the hour and minute hands on the clock would just be straight lines. I could use PNG files but for some reason doing that sucks up a lot of memory.
What else? Just need graphics.
EDIT: I think I just figured out what the cresents are!!! If they're indicators for the battery, volume, etc. then this is way out of my league.
yes they are meters... it's sort of like a hud. well... is there any way around using wad or rl to program this... are there any crazy programmers on this board even capable of something, or this just too extreme. i can give you the graphics, just tell me the formats you need everything in.
Looks promising.
I like today screen with many information displayed.
It would be fine if that could be used with SPB shell.
Really nice design skanndelus.

If that's for me then the files would need to be in PNG format.
The "HUD" is a great idea but no way would I be able to do that. I'm sure someone else can....
Actaully, if you can find, or make a font file that has those shapes I think it can be done in rltoday. Would need sys-e-reg though.
Now you have me thinking. Great!!!! I'm going to be up all night!!!!
Yes WAD 2 can do anything..you can set the path to the app and clock, weather, everything gestures also..WAD 2 is still in beta..so try it

Vista Ultimate Plus UI

I have created a Windows Vista UI (WAD)for Athena
But Im still in the process of designing/working it...
Just wanna ask you guys what do you think about my work...(needs some inspirations...)
I called the UI Windows Vista Plus because, obviously the design is Vista-like PLUS I made it 3 in 1.... 3 UI's in 1
1. The first UI is Windows Vista
2. The second one is not really a UI, which I call Picture Frame and
3. A UI I designed which I haven't decided a name yet (Im choosing the names Windows Orbit, Galaxy, Ring and others)
Take note that the theme is not yet finished, so there's still more to do (fonts, links, docks, etc.)
If at least 10 people find my work nice; I would be glad to share the theme here...
Need your comments and
please don't be harsh... thanks..

that looks excellent mate my athena is my second device/tv pc, id love to be able to put that on mine. if your looking to test it on other athenas lt me know, im more than happy to put it on mine and help find any bugs i can.
as for a name for the 3rd os how about somthing along the lines of windows revolution
Thanks for the first comment
Thanks for that...
But this is not a new OS...It's just a theme Im making with WAD...
Sorry for the confusion, just 9 more people to go
and im uploading it soon as it's finished
lol i have no idea why i put OS, i was thinking UI. i have absoloubtly no doubt that more than 9 people may be interested. i like that its something fresh and different, will it be able to run in other res settings via real vga
Yup it will run with different dpi's
but I made this using the default 192 dpi....
The graphics and objects will remain unchanged
but fonts size will surely be affected
So resizing and repositioning of of some texts will be needed if this will be run in 128 and 96 dpi
ill have a look at doing that if and when you release it, as my athena is a sort of spare i have it permanantly connected to the tv and use it as a basic pc when i cant be arsed coming into my office, i think this will really tidy it up nicely
gr8 theme! i love it
when are you planning on sharing it? is it wm6.1 or 6.5?
Excelent work indeed It must have taken a lot of work, there have been many attempts at a vista type look and I recon yours is up there. How is it for speed? the only thing that put me off using them is it can slow things down quite a lot.
Jay
Yup I've been working it for days now...
The tedious part is making some original docks and some images and linking stuff with animations
I might finish the theme within 3 days...
Speed is good, it does not seem to slow down my system (I'm using Michy's Clean 6.1 ROM) and it can be
run in low memory mode which may have a good effect on battey life and multitasking
Another thing is I set this this to be installed on the Storage Card, not in the Microdrive, I've read that the Microdrive uses more power than the Minisd slot, so I Installed it there (storage card) to save more battery life (please correct me if this move will really save batt power). Another advantage is it can be installed through other VGA devices with external card memory named "Storage Card"....
Only 7 people to go....
You ae correct, the microdrive is far heavier on power than the SD so I think you've done right. i'm not sure on the exact figures but it will be somewhere here.
Awesome Work Count Me In as well!!! I have been thirsty for something new, this is TOP SHELF!!!
Ok only 5 people to go
almost finished but it seems I can't make the weather notification work...
Any WAD users here?
Yes! i think the Circular design looks simply great and special for the big screen of the Athena. I would love to have it on my U1000. i understand the Wisbar advance desktop must be installed to the main memory and the program is quite big. My daughter has installed Wisbar Advance 3 in her Ipaq and it looks quite good. Correct me if I am wrong, I understand that WA3 is a lighter skinning program and the extend of skinning is does not include the desktop part. When using Wisbar Advance desktop, is it still necessary to install Wisbar Advance 3 or will the Wisbar Advance Desktop do?
They will work well without the other
WAD can be installed on other storages.....
Wow!! This is very nice!!!
4 people to go
Status:
Vista UI is almost finished
Windows Orbit UI- adding some orbs and stuff
Well I have a good news and the a bad news...
The good news is weather is now updating....
the bad news is...the theme is messed up and I have to redo all...
I was using WAD version 2.1.1 and in the middle of my work, some parts of the theme suddenly became corrupted, with the animations and other stuff messed up too...
I had a back up of the theme and installed the latest version of WAD
and all seems to work but there were glitches... The wallpaper turns pink upon restart and switching to other pages is unstable...
So I decided to redo everything for it to be bug free in the latest WAD version
Which means it will take a couple of days
Good news
Finished Windows orbit first,
Just applying some sounds now...
count me in. i did a vista-type look using wad but it was a simple looking one. yours is definitely up a couple of levels. looks good and the interface is quite crisp.
cheers
Count me.
Hello.
Great work.
Count me in the lis.
I'm using Manila 2D now,but I like WAD too.
The only thing is that I'm at 96 DPI.
How much work need the fonts to work with it.
Regards.

[Q] How to display clock and battery on top taskbar?

Does anyone know how to display both the clock and the battery in the top taskbar? Thanks
Would like to know if this is possible too.
I don't neccesary need the time in taskbar when in HTC Sense, but when I'm using an application, it would be nice to see the time.

Agreed. If possible no third party add-on apps. But, if all else fails....
+1 Would also want to see the clock and battery icon in every application (which allows taksbar)
It would be great to have both the battery and the clock in the taskbar. If not, every time we must go to the home screen to see the clock!

kBattery v1.1.9 Freeware
A couple of notes:
- This is a common annoyance for all WM Phones below and including 6.5.0, the other forums are flooded with the same kind of requests.
- To my knowledge there is no registry hack to get both.
- You can customise the width and position of the battery/clock.
- It is essentially an icon that overlaps, not replaces, other stuff on the taskbar.
- In my screenshot, I moved/expanded it so it covered the Volume and Battery icons.
- I'm not sure if it works on the HD2 (getting it in 4 days), this is a screenshot of my X1.
- Switching from Portrait > Landscape and vice-versa, there will be a small delay before the battery location moves to the right place. Very minor inconvenience though.
- No system hog as far as I can see. Battery usage with and without the same.
just tried it on the Leo. Works perfectly thanks for the tip btyeh.
Thanks for the tip. Though I cannot find how to configure the app, and by default it looks really bad and it is not placed properly.
I would prefer a totally different solution than this, but I guess it is pretty hard?

Thanks, configured it in the best way possible for the HD2. Still not loving it, I can't make it any smaller (less wide) than this, and in some windows the new icon is a little slow to catch up. It's a nice try, but definately not the ultimate solution for me. Deinstalling...
One screenshot showing it on Sense, the other one showing in Resco Explorer with the X in the cornor.

Thanks for the tip. I've tried it for a day and I like a lot the way it looks. Unfortunately it makes the animations in Sense stutter a little bit. Take a look at the clouds on the today screen and notice how they stutter. When exiting kBattery the lagging disappears.
Too bad... the search continues.
I downloaded kBattery v1.0.3 at http://sourceforge.net/projects/kbattery/ and now the stuttering is gone. Unfortunately I can't change the position of it. Maybe there's a version between 1.0.3 and 1.1.9 that can move the clock/battery and that doesn't have the stuttering. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find such a version yet.
UPDATE: I managed to change the position of the clock/battery icon on v1.0.3 by changing HKCU->Software->kuchin->KBattery->Position to 450
Now it looks perfect and the stuttering in Sense is gone... BUT in landscape the icon is in the middle in the taskbar. I think it's placing the icons based on pixels from the left edge of the screen instead of from the right side. Since kbattery 1.0.3 is open source my only hope is that someone who knows how to can change the source code so that it calculates the position from the right edge of the screen.
How can I take a screen dump of how nice it looks in portrait mode? (I'm still new to WM, have only had it for less than a week)
Source code is available here by the way ;-) http://sourceforge.net/projects/kbattery/files/Source/KBattery 1.0.3/
I have been using Ariel Battery. Sorry can't remember the link. It only displays the battery. It's ok but is a bit slow sometimes when updating the background, ie. sometimes when you move from a solid background to a transparent background, the background of the clock is still a solid color. Would still really like a more native solution
BattClock
Recently I made a stripped down version of the BattClock of TouchLockPro and StylusLock, for people not needing my locking solution. See www.zuinigerijder.com and XDA-developers thread
