Hey all, dunno if this should really be wizard specific, but here goes...
I'm looking for a way to apply an animated background to my today screen, using a single GIF file. I'm not sure if it is possible myself, but the flash ones soak up so many processor cycles, on an already limited device... I have run a basic search, but i've not come up with anything other than how to use one as a sort of screensaver.
Would be nice to have some slowly animated backgrounds, like the ones I stole off my mum's new w950i (which is also very nice, although not a scratch on the wizard).
Hope someone can help, thx

Hi
iwould appreciate something like this aswell, but another thing that would be awsome is Animated caller ID or mayb if we can set short .mp4 or 3gp or .wmv file to playback a video instead of just a picture!! i no that on my symbian devices i can do it with a third party application, it has the ability to associate a .3gp as the file for a specific caller then a music video plays instead!!!!.

there are no free solutions as far as i am aware. Some software that does the trick here http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=3372 and there are others too - google to find

Ha ha sorry i misread your post try active today http://www.pocketfacelift.com/activetoday.html
Let us know if it works well, i am interested 2.
i suspect that FaceLift is just embedding an HTML control on the today screen. Can be very resource heavy for the solution. There are better apps for that job...

I am testing activetoday (diff from facelift), any recommendations V?
EDIT Activetoday works v nicely, only 47kb install and takes 200kb ram. I would consider buying
EDIT2 Seems a little buggy - you have to soft reset after each change of animated gif, but still good Still works after standby etc....
I don't know if it's actively developed anymore, but there's an app called SideX which I think is great. Lets you float keyboards, plugins etc.

That came with a great today screen html plugin, but it probably does no more then the one you mentioned - however, in the SideX package you get a ton of other features with it....

There are actually more than one
You can this with WAD ( & WA2 ). And with these you can make your own graphics...
And then the martian over at Marsware suddenly emerged from oblivion, and release a today-analog-clock-beta, you'd have to register to the wiki over at Marsware.... ( this is btw skinable too )
And then there's the old SPB Time....also skinable, but a program you'd have to execute to see the time...
I use ( and prefer ) the WAD/WA2-sollution, but the new beta from Marsware seems promising...
Good hunting... :wink:
It's not available yet, but I made one a while back. Have to package this up at some point.

I have to correct you in this Vijay, it is available, it's a beta, but available... :wink:
Flipside: sure, if you're me! I write so many "prototype" apps, many just get forgotten! I like VJEphemeris, but it's likely that VJSihaya, if it ever sees the light of day, will entirely replace the Today screen (at least mine!) with an emulated and improved Today function.
It will certainly have a floating clock on the "desktop", I like those, so it's likely VJEphemeris will just fall off the edge of my world :wink:
However, I use my Magician more than my Universal, so it's worth me continuing it for that device... so yeah, tis available to a very limited circle!

Interesting. Have you guys ever tried Today+?
Requires some considerable hackery, and is resource heavy, but will produce analog clocks and a gazillion more things as well. Very powerful. Hard work.

VJ, is it possible to have your beta plugin for the analog clock on today's screen?
Not really GiGi. I haven't updated it for a long time, I've got no time because I'm full time on all of my old stuff first. And the version I use is unfortunately specific to my device (ie no config for launch items etc).
One day I'll try to put it into its own plugin, but I'm sure there will be other solutions before then.
Apologies once again.

is it possible to make it work on wm5?
possible - yes
Whats the point of this application?
That's actually a pretty cool idea.
Wonder if something could be made where you wave the phone in the air and a message is displayed like you had on that Nokia phone or those message clocks.
the point is that if you are in a place where is too much noise (disco) or no possibility to hear one another (train station, two different cars etc), you can transmit messages very easy. the display of a pda is wide enough to be observed at long distance. a flash lite program for this app would be excelent.
Great idea for WM application! "Programable" (text and color) led banner. For me very usefull (on lesson) and cool looks...
Seems to me like a big waste, that's why it's avail on the i****e, nothing much more it's good for, except a LED Banner. If anything, a today plugin with this would be cool.
I only know a piece of software that creates LED gif animation. Like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
I would think it's not that difficult to program for WM. You just need to make font template or pixel matrix (the latter should save memory since each character is like 16x12LED = 16x12x2 bits) for a-z 0-9 A-Z .,'... then scale it up to screen size and let it scroll. Just that it may be hard for the more serious programmers to justify spending their time on this.
maybe a less serious programmer will do it, after all
How about creating the program to create LED gif images on the devices, to be used as backgrounds for S2U2.
Easiest way is to use flash

its easy to make..
using a pixel font blink in a certain frequency waving your arm, due to persistance of view) we see the message writen in the air...

Well it's not that hard. Flash -> download a tutorialfile from the internet on how to make it. Adjust it to your wishes, save as flash 7 or flash lite 2.1.
But why won't you do it, when you want it?
If it's an easy way to program it, this would be an excellent first project for you to jump into.
Good luck!
it will be more nicer if its not flash program..well maybe likje .exe file

It only takes 1 click to open a flash file. It's fullscreen and you can make lnk files to it.
Flash is a programminglanguage, much like any other language. It has it's disadvantages, but when it comes to animation and graphics, like what is requested in this thread, it's superb! Easy antialiasing of all objects. Smooth animation.
It's possible to make an exe file run flash animations, but then you need some other programming languages to work it out, or you can use mortscript and make an .exe

i have no idea. i literally opened up photoshop and did my thing. i need all your know-how from here on out, if you guys would use it.
Not bad IMO - original concept/layout.
I'll tell you the easiest, and best way to customize this, would be the new WAD2. It's $10, you won't regret it, trust me.
Great design. I would use it, but the only issue I would have is the weather. I am in love with Rumball's weather icons so I like to use that in weatherpanel as my weather program.
Well, we could use whatever weather icons we want, I'd assume, right?

What are the cresents on either side of the clock?
I can do the majority of this using rltoday. Only things I wouldn't be able to do are:
-alarm notification. I know there's a way to do it using mortscript but I don't know the code.
-the battery indicator can be done using sys-2-reg. not hard but another program to install.
-the volume button would just link you to the volume control or maybe toggle between mute/loud?
-the signal and connection indicators I couldn't do.
-there's a weather mort script on the rltoday site that I could use.
-the hour and minute hands on the clock would just be straight lines. I could use PNG files but for some reason doing that sucks up a lot of memory.
What else? Just need graphics.
EDIT: I think I just figured out what the cresents are!!! If they're indicators for the battery, volume, etc. then this is way out of my league.
yes they are meters... it's sort of like a hud. well... is there any way around using wad or rl to program this... are there any crazy programmers on this board even capable of something, or this just too extreme. i can give you the graphics, just tell me the formats you need everything in.
Looks promising.
I like today screen with many information displayed.
It would be fine if that could be used with SPB shell.
Really nice design skanndelus.
Cheers

If that's for me then the files would need to be in PNG format.
The "HUD" is a great idea but no way would I be able to do that. I'm sure someone else can....
Actaully, if you can find, or make a font file that has those shapes I think it can be done in rltoday. Would need sys-e-reg though.
Now you have me thinking. Great!!!! I'm going to be up all night!!!!
Yes WAD 2 can do anything..you can set the path to the app and clock, weather, everything gestures also..WAD 2 is still in beta..so try it

So here's what i'm thinking about... The omnia home screen called : "Omnia Widget" was quite "rigid" because we can't add things or customize it, but it was very interesting because it was using flash, and it allows lot of things such as animation or easy coding... So why don't we use it to customize ?
When i found those 2 files "GrandP.swf" and "GrandL.swf" in omnia's rom immediately i decided to decompile them... I found a lot of informations... and i tried to make my own swf. And it works !
But here's the problem :
first, there are some missing/unoperating functions (loadVars, loadMovie, FSCommand:launch, getTime etc...)
second, i couldn't decompile everything... and samsung uses fonctions to load informations for windows mobile ( exa: what song is played, is there any missing cal, new mail, etc...)
Right now, the only functions i can use are : launching different programs (calendar, main menu, opera, etc)
So if you are interesting in, i need help to decompile, and uses those missing functions !

Looks AWESOME, how did you customize your screen SO MUCH using the omnia widgets? And how did you get multiple today screens? This has SO MUCH potential.
Just get a method to add/change widgets and you have one of the best customizing software in the making! Please continue and pursue devolopments, waiting for my omnia...
(Btw, change the background for the XPERIA homescreen)
Akshay
Also, it would be great if you could integrate twolf's widgets into that. He has created some amazing flash widgets, I swear I would help, but I know absolutely nothing about this. So, twolf and other experts! Lets make this happen and help...
(As far as I know, omnia widgets can now also be installed on other ppc's as well, so its usefull not only for omnia, but as a universal app)
Akshay
Flash Widgets
I too have decompiled the GrandP.swf and i am working on adding widgets to it.
I have already changed some aspects of the file one of which was just changing the size of the analoge clock to half its original size to not too intrusive.
I have been looking through the actionscript to see how it interacts with windows mobile and if it uses any libaries.
One idea i am toying with is a directory with widget swf's in from which the GrandP will load them from .. instead of being contained within the flash file itself.
I will post my finding as well .. I find them
Matt
Very nice work and looks nice

I know it already exists one, but its not customizable in what folder to show.
My ideia is to mix some of the already available plugins out there.
The Favorite People plugin already has the show picture part done.
And the System and Weather plugins use mortcript for some extra tweaking.

I was thinking of a simple softkey button that allows the user to choose a folder (with a browse layout).
And a simple mortscript code to list all the available images on that folder, saving it to a text file database or so.
The plugin would have 3 pages (previous, current and next image). Then, as you scroll left or right, the mortscript would change the name of the images on the plugin pages to make a circular order (or random, if that extra setting existed).
The size of the pictures would be much bigger than the current one, like the plugin changes that theDaniel (used here as an example) and KerMiT80 already made. The picture date of creaton would be a nice detail, as shown in the example, but that would probably give much more work than necessary, so it would probably not appear.
Instead, the plugin could show the full count of the images inside that folder, and what number is showing at the moment.
The condensed view could show a text with a picture icon saying "x pictures in folder Y", being X the total number of pictures inside and Y the folder name or path.
And, of course, if you click on the picture it would pop-up the "picture viewer" showing that image.
This would be pretty easy for me to do in flash, but outside flash, not so much...
So, does anyone want to do this? I can help on the CPR editing, some of the registry code and do the dinamyc picture frame with a small shadow...
Someone is already making such plugin, rpereira is designing a slideshow picture plugin with a specified folder.
Thats great news, where did you read that?
