every thing was good until i got to the part after i did the following
Go to your computer and delete PC36IMG.zip, then rename PC36IMG-MR.zip to PC36IMG.zip after i did this i booted it up but when updating i received this message

No image or wrong image! anyways plz help let me know what to do! and if i just ****d up my evo ?
Find unrevoked3 and use that to root.
You didn't mess up your EVO. The problem that you're having is that you didn't properly rename the file to PC36IMG.zip so hboot is unable to locate it. You most likely renamed it to PC36IMG.zip.zip, which is a common mistake.
Now that being said, I recommend that you abandon this particular root method and use Unrevoked3, like what Papa Smurf suggested. It is much easier and works very well.
Don't worry it's almost impossible to **** an evo. Like seriously hard to do. The no image just means you didn't name it correctly, make sure it is exactly pc36img.zip. Not .zip.zip because extensions are hidden or something. That is why it isn't working.

I'm not sure if I'm familiar with that root method, and the link isn't clickable, and I'm too lazy to copy and paste. As Smurf said, Unrevoked is a pretty surefire and simple one click method to root your Evo. However, to answer your question, you didn't eff up your phone. It didn't find the PC36IMG. Did it ever prompt you to update, and select Vol Up to say yes? If not, then it just didn't find the update, most likely because it's named incorrectly, or it's not on the main directory of your sd card. It needs to be named exactly PC36IMG. Not PC36IMG.zip. The phone already knows it's a zip file, and will add the .zip. So, for example, if it was named PC36IMG.zip, and put it on your sd card, it would then be PC36IMG.zip.zip (as the phone reads it) and the bootloader won't find it. Also, be sure it's not in any folder's on your sd card. It needs to be on the main directory of your sd card. If those two criteria are met, it will find the PC36IMG and prompt you to update.

You are just one step away from finishing that method just finish it up. Do what this dude said. Put the pc on. The root of your sdcard, make triple sure the file is named correctly, and it I'll work.
ok yeah i think its because i named it with the .zip so i will take it off and see if its works ok and should i backup anything or is it to late because i already started the root process? and also thanks alot you guys for the help thanks alot!!!
Nope just rename and flash. Btw there really isn't anything else that could be going on besides bad name.

I am not sure that I understand what is your exact problem. But if I'm right and you can not install rom from SD card and want to install it directly from computer, maybe you should try to use DAF versions ?

yes but there is only one daf version and i want to know how to convert the sd version to daf version
That's not very easy. You'd have to edit the intrid.gz and and zImage and other things to make it work. More effort than it's worth. What ROM you looking for? Is it a .zip SD card file or and Android folder type?

To the point - the fact you're asking this question leads me to believe you're not skilled enough to know how to perform all of the changes this would require.
My suggestion is you forget about the SD version and make the move to the NAND Android instead.
The DAF version is a way for Windows to put Android on your phone through the built-in bootloader onto the NAND chip on your phone. SD android is a completely different structure and you'll never find an "SD DAF" Android.
could you perhaps extract the system folder from the CWM zip, then use mkyaffs2image to build a system.img and drop that in place of the original system.img from the DFT version? (and teh same with the boot folder boot.img too, i would assume)
Or is that make believe?

Extracting the system folder from CWM zip wont work. Its because during the zip installation the updater script is beeing called and it creates a lot of symlinks. So, if you just extract and convert, you will miss the whole bunch of symlinks (and permissions, etc..)

Really?
Never heard of DAF then?
We're limited to either SD or CWM install, are we?

Heh, dig deeper.
The op is limited to usb only so yea, in this case we are limited to daf only, and he finds there isn't as wide range of daf roms, hence the perfectly reasonable question.
which part of the original post can't you understand?

I'll assume your lack of English skills is the reason you've totally mis-understood every single thing i've written in this thread.
If I've missunderstood, it can only mean that even though it didn't sound like it, you do agree with me, in which case appology accepted, lets say no more about it.

He's trying to flash like a native android phone
You could try to rename it update.zip and boot android..
Sorry its for doing the psfreedom jailbreak for the ps3. For that you need to install/flash that zip file to the Sd card. But i cant get it in.
I also tried to change to uppdate.zip and it didnt work. feels like im doing something wrong.
I thought i knew how to flash files but nothing happens when i flash the zip file.
here is a link to the guide with a desire. http://www.dkszone.net/jailbreak-ps3-psfreedom-android-phone-nexus-htc-desire
Blackstone is not an android native device, and it doesn't run from nand, and usb mass storage doesn't work, and recovery mode doesn't work either, so I doubt that works with it. Sincerely, I'd try to get a native android device to do that.

You got that wrong. This is intended for the native devices and you can't flash anything to NAND (yet). I don't know if it works on Blackstone, but more info can be found here.

Download the latest Acer stock ROM to your PC (many stock roms found on this page). Transfer it to your external SD card and make sure to rename it "update.zip". Boot holding down volume and power until you see lines of text, then let it do it's thing
thanks for the info! I found a ROM on this thread.. not sure if its the latest 3.1 build.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154492
so I downloaded it to my PC.. comes as a ZIP file.. "update_3.1".. do I unzip folder & renamed it "update.zip"? or do I leave it zipped, rename it and transfer to SD card & boot up? again thanks for the help
Leave it named update.zip do not unzip
downloaded the update_3.1 file from that thread.
renamed folder "update.zip", left compressed.
transferred to external SD card on phone.
placed SD card into tablet, booted up by holding the power & volume button.
take you into SD update cmd: recovery..
its looking for the folder..
then comes on the android logo with an exclamation point!
no good..
might it be the ROM? any suggestions..

If you downloaded it from the first link, the file needs to be decrypted first. I believe the second link on that page from megaupload is already decrypted. But that would be where the problem is.
And yes that is the latest build from Acer for the US!
I'm not sure what you mean.. consider me a noob at this.. never installed a ROM before.. encrypted or decrypted.. what would be what I need? couldn't find that second link you mentioned..

Right on! You know you can use clockwork mod to backup your system so it doesn't happen again.
You should use one of these versions, since your in the US.
4.010.07_COM_GEN2
4.010.08_COM_GEN2
4.010.11_COM_GEN2
4.010.13_COM_GEN2 (latest, not sure if it's posted anywhere yet)
The .40 version is not a US build.
interesting.. not sure what the difference is but can someone please post up 4.010.13_COM_GEN 2 & a how-to-install!

4.010.13 isn't a full rom like the one posted, merely an update.it can be obtained by simply checking for an update in "about device" in settings
I'm trying to create an 'update.zip' file to flash after installing a new rom. The problem is, it doesn't actually create a zip file. It just duplicates every file in the backup folder.
Any ideas?

I apologize. I should've clarified. I'm trying to create an update.zip file that contains all of my backed up apps, via Menu/Batch actions, under Recovery mode. It's narrative says, 'Create "update.zip" from app+data backups'. I assumed this would do what I was thinking it would do.

Let's call it a bit of confusion on my part. Not necessarily unwarranted though, because it places both update.zip files outside of the TB folder. Since everything I've had it back up to this point was dumped in the TB folder, I never thought to look elsewhere.
As for the extra files... let's chalk that up to me seeing things?

Ah...yes you are correct. Both instances will create an "update.zip" on the 'sd card' of the phone outside of TB. What I do is edit the name to something like appsupdate.zip for the apps and left the other update.zip alone.

I attempted it a few days ago when coming from 4.2.2 to 4.3. It didn't go very well lol. It would flash the appsupdate.zip, lets say, and I see the apps get flashed, but, my recovery would reboot the phone. Bottom line it didn't work for me at that time. I'll try it after lunch to see how it functions when I have root and the phone is happy and stable lol.
What I did was just download TB from the play store and restored my apps from my backup folder once I got root again.

LOL! Sorry I had too. Someone needs there Coffee You copy the rom to your phones storage like where your pictures,Music, and stuff are at. They didnt say anything about a storage folder.

You should be cautious when flashing anything if you were looking for a "Storage" folder.

Dude! Never be afraid to ask (but if the answers are on the website and you didn't do a proper search, expect flame on!).
Anyway, assuming you are on AT&T, you should have downloaded a file called CleanROM-1.1.zip . If you didn't get that one, go here http://www.scottsroms.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=464 and download it. Check the MD5 to ensure the file is not corrupt. Do not unzip the file! Just transfer the file onto your phone - it doesn't really matter where, just remember where you put it. Then reboot into recovery (assuming you have already installed TWRP) using whatever app you like (I prefer GooManager), click Install, navigate to the rom you just put on your phone and you're good to go.
Good luck!
