Is there a way I can backup/restore Google Map's cache ? Where is the cache located? Is there a maximum size limit on the cache?
Also is there a software that will allow me to build cache of specified areas then just transfer it over to my Android phone?
Bump

If u search Google for offline maps Apperntly Google will be releasing an update sometime in the near future that allows us to store maps so we can use navigation without having a data connection

That will be a great feature. Many applications like ovi maps already had this feature, but especially for a vacation in another country it will be nice to have.
But wasn't the cache also some sort of 'offline' mode.

the cache can be found on your sd card:
Android/data/com.google.android.apps.maps

I tried backing up up the cache prior to doing a factory reset. Then when I restore the cache data and fix the permissions, it works. However, after resetting the phone or something, the cache automatically get deleted.
BUMP.....
does titanium backup work
You can find Google map cache in sd card as per this path:- Android/data/com.google.android.apps.maps
take the backup of this folder " com.google.android.apps.maps " google map saving map cache file in that folder

You just clear the individual apps under application management.
I reflashed my phone, and i am unable to update google maps. Not showing as update needed, but i am on version 4.3... Is the market location dependent? Any ideas on how to fix this?
No, market is not location dependent, it's carrier dependent... In any case, the dependency is only for paid and protected apps, not free apps...
Are you rooted?? If yes, clear you cache and dalvik-cache or delete the folder /data/data/com.android.vending/cache, reboot and the try...
rooted. on a pre-paid orange sim card. will try to remove that file...
Nope. Still not showing...

Hi Guys I need some help today my streak stop installing the app from the Market.Today I try to Update two app from the Market looks like the app is downloading but don't install My Streak is using froyo 319 and have Market v.2.3.4. some help guys
Troubleshooting the Android market
Try clearing the cache for the market, and if that does not work clear the data.
Had the same problem (froyo 318) with more recent apps that are bigger then 20MB. Fast forward provided above troubleshooting to "Unmount SD Card". That worked for me.

If you have this problem and are trying to install FROM your SD card (not the market), you can use ADB
adb install [filename thats saved inside your adb directory].apk
problem solved!

I can access the Android Market, but it will not download any apps. It starts to download for half a second but then stops. I have used the "BOYPPC-SHIFTPDA GINGER 2.3.3 V5 " and "AmeriCanAndroid" ROMs and have the same result.
I have deleted cache and data from all the programs that start with Google and Market but I still cant download any apps. Any tips on what I can do to fix this?
Update to v 11 !!!

The ROM type is SD, not NAND.
i had the same problem. you have to move what ever apps you have stored on the "phone" to the sd card. then you'll be able to download new apps and place them back on the phone ie pandora...

I tried doing this, but it gave an error message. It said, "Failed to move application. System updates cannot be installed on external media."
will try these settings as my market plays trix on me.....
Open root explorer. Go to /data/dalvik cache. Select all files in the folder and delete them. Reboot immediately. Stuff will get very unstable till you do.
This will re optimize the system after all the changes you have been making.

Similar to this, is thr a way to clear cache partition without recovery mode?
What is the purpose of doing this? Will this clear my settings or default programs?
Adversely, I have one default program I would like to clear but it does not show up on the default app list... can I clear this one manually? Namely I want to switch back to using Svoice vs Google Voice and no matter what i do I can switch it back. Turning on Svoice under settings does nothing.
Thanks for the great info
Thanks for the helpful tidbit.
question here
if i clear my dalvik cache( with not the intentions to install new rom...just cleaning junks) will my personal data be saved?
why just don't use one of app : https://play.google.com/store/searc...sp=CAFiDQoLY2xlYXIgY2FjaGV6AhgAigECCAE=&hl=en
So cache partition stores all these settings which can be deleted from settings->apps? or it's maybe something like temp in Windows?
Whether will be deleted apps settings after wiping cache partition?
edit. I found.
None settings deleted. It just support's faster lauching of most used apps. After wiping, few lauching of the app restores previous condition of executing. May fix errors during opening some app, due to some overloads of this memory.
Because dalvik cache stores fragments of compiled code of an installed apps, and can be just deleted for restore some performance of system (it is restored after reboot).
Especially these wiping these two - dalvik and partition cache, is sometimes practised after installing lots of apps, to improve performance, maybe some errors.
Correct me if something's wrong.
