Stuck on 2.2.1 How to root/downgrade to 2.1??? - Wildfire General

Is there any way to downgrade to 2.1 so i can root?
Obviously 2.2.1 can't be rooted at the moment.
Any way to turn the s-lock to off?
PLeeaaaaaseee helppp!

NO! Sorry but please search before starting a new thread, there's at least 3 others on the first page asking the same question! 2.2 cannot be rooted due to a new version of HBOOT. It is possible to downgrade but you can't root it it still has the new HBOOT. I know unrevoked have been working on it for some time (early Jan). I've heard they've bricked a few phones too so I wouldn't do anything silly. There is no ETA for it so just wait patiently like (most of) the rest of the people stuck on 2.2.
Rant over!

1. Reinvent your brains..
2. USE SEARCH. youre 5yo or what?

Admittedly i knew there wasn't much hope when i posted this! I've been trying to do it for a few hours but i keep hearing stories about people who have!
But yeah, just wanted to check that there's been no progress

2.1 Leak to 2.1 Root

Hi. I am a dev who is fairly new to the Android platform. I recently acquired a droid eris running 2.1 leak v3. I am interested in upgrading to root. I was wondering if anyone had achieved root in any of the leaks? If not, is anyone working on it? If so I may be able to help.
Thanks in advance and I apologize if any of these questions had already been answered. I have searched all over this forum and other forums and could not find a recent answer to these questions.
Also, I hear the OTA is right around the corner and might be the exact same as the third leak. Should I just wait until that comes out to attempt to achieve root? I do not want to spend hours of my time working on this only to have the OTA come out the next day and have done this for nothing.

There are versions of 2.1 rooted, but there is no current way to go from the leaks TO root. There are rooted roms based on 2.1 though.

Due to the update in the newest 2.2 update, HTC have fixed leaks which had been used by many users to Root their system in order to gain root access that will allow users to install other ROMs and other operations. It is not in the interest of HTC for users to Root their devices as this avoids the standard warranty.
There are ways to downgrade to HBoot, however the risks are too high and would not recommend it. I had to do it for my HTC Desire...scary as fark...would not recommend it.
You may have to wait until solutions can be developed, however, this may take some time since developers of one-click root solutions to find a leak on the new updated HBoot.
Be patient and wait =(

FANTASTIC to read something like that! ;-) altough I'm very pleased with the froyo ROM, i just hate the idea of an open source os (or rom) beeing locked, especialy one with the potentials like android.
Where did you get that information from?

[Q] Bootloader issues..

please help me...
my wildfire comes with android 2.1 then i updated it into froyo 2.2 "Official version" after i found that it can`t be rooted..i downgrade it again into 2.1
but now every time in enter HBOOT i found some msgs about missing PC49img is missing and if i tried to enter recovery it give me
E:failed to open Cache/recovery/command
help me please..
HBOOT 1.01 cannot be downgraded. Even though you may have downgraded Android 2.2.1 to Android 2.1, your HBOOT is updated, and remains intact even after the downgrade.
Sorry about it, but, it is entirely your fault. There are now atleast a thousand threads here which ask the same thing (how to root 2.2.1), or, also warn you not to update to 2.2.1 if you want to retain root ability. Now, you will have to join the queue till a solution comes. (Or find someone with an XTC Clip)
Anyhow, refer this thread, should serve as a progress report:

i think 3xeno was being quite polite actually, there are ****loads of threads about 2.2 not being able to be rooted and also about ruu's and losing the ability to root.
i don't think it's laughing at someone that hasn't rooted phone, more being frustrated people don't search first.being either in forum or google, you can see for yourself how often new threads are started.
fair enough if you search and can't find an answer, but i would think it's getting to a point of forum etiquette. how can you expect people to take time to help, if you don't take the time to search?

Can we all start posting like this please?
OK quick question...because I am finding conflicting information on the web
All agree that you cannot root Gingerbread 2.3.3 yet directly
…but….
…can you roll Gingerbread 2.3.3 back to Froyo 2.2?
Then root Froyo?
Most seem to say no you cannot roll back (including Sprint...I tried them)
But this guy is saying yes you can…(watch video and go pass his joking around at first) htcevohacks how-to-root-htc-evo-4g-gingerbread-2-3
I would like other opinion if this is doable? (and have done it) I want to root but took the ota 2.3.3 before I got around to it
...Im not sure I trust this guy know all that going on to try this and not end up bricking my phone....
I want more than one opinion before I and othet's get walked off a cliff if it is wrong
Again this is for a evo that has neve been rooted but bone stock that took the OTA update to gingerbread 2.3.3 can you roll back to Froyo, then root Froyo... or is there a big "gotya!" hiding?
Im a Network Engineer and don’t do jack on production gear (in this case my own phone till I know what's going on backwards and forwards
Even if this is just bad info out on the web a heads up warning will be nice
That article was dated January 19th. The current comments are all failures, getting Wrong Bootloader message.
This method won't work. Unfortunately, you will need to wait like the rest of us.
Ah trying to root my fathers phone until I got the firmware is to new message? Then found this after seeing he updated.. ha! Thank god I'm rooted. Lol

If you were previously rooted and your bootloader security is set to "s-off" then you can reinstall 2.2. Otherwise, you're SOL until an exploit for 2.3 can be found.
lame, is there anyway we can tether with this sense the hotspot app is disabled by default? does pdanet work?

So a big fat caveat that should be up front …it all about locked or unlocked NAND(S-ON/S-OFF)…
So first question: Taking Gingerbread 2.3.3 will unroot your phone but will not relock NAND (S-ON)?
And second question :If you need to service your phone and have to put back to stock you would need to relock NAND (S-ON) as a final step to be truly, truly, stock?
Reason I ask it this
Person “A” states (like guy in video) “I unrooted and went to stock Froyo 2.2 on my evo and did OTA update to Gingerbread 2.3.3” ..(but he still can roll back because its still unlocked NAND(S-OFF)...so big woop...what the hell did he prove?)….
Person “B” states (like someone return to stock for Sprint service) “I unrooted and went to stock Froyo 2.2 on my evo and am locked NAND(S-On) so Sprint will not know”
So between Person “A” and Person “B” what the different step that gives stock Froyo 2.2 unlocked NAND(S-OFF)….and stock Froyo 2.2 locked NAND(S-ON) for service return?

I dont know if I am allowed to post links to other websites but google CyanogenMod wiki for mytouch 4g and click on the full update guide and it will show you step by step how to downgrade and root the mytouch. Then you can flash any of the gingerbread roms you like. Make sure you follow the directions exactly or else you will brick your device. Also make sure the md5 sums match up for each file before you start the process.

lol i was just looking at CyanogenM im really liking the android 4 OS, id like to put that on my phone. i think what i want to do is get the 2.3.4 back(if i cant get Android 4) and have it rooted
You downgrade to 2.2.1 use gfree to obtain s-off then flash clockworkmod recovery and then flash any rom you want. the software number (2.2.1 2.3.4 2.3.5 etc.) Changes with each rom. Now if you look closely 2 posts up you will see the beta 4.0.1 thread we have and above that the sticky where it shows how to downgrade and how to root after that, PLEASE read before searching and search before posting
