Due to the update in the newest 2.2 update, HTC have fixed leaks which had been used by many users to Root their system in order to gain root access that will allow users to install other ROMs and other operations. It is not in the interest of HTC for users to Root their devices as this avoids the standard warranty.
There are ways to downgrade to HBoot, however the risks are too high and would not recommend it. I had to do it for my HTC Desire...scary as fark...would not recommend it.
You may have to wait until solutions can be developed, however, this may take some time since developers of one-click root solutions to find a leak on the new updated HBoot.
Be patient and wait =(

FANTASTIC to read something like that! ;-) altough I'm very pleased with the froyo ROM, i just hate the idea of an open source os (or rom) beeing locked, especialy one with the potentials like android.
Where did you get that information from?

HTC Wildfire will get Tough to Root after 2.2 Froyo Update

As per a forum member of XDA-Developers , he states that HTC Wildfire Which is soon to get its Official 2.2 Froyo Update , Is a good news for some , but will give tough times to others , other uses who wish to Root their Android Device.
In Details warriorvibhu Explains that HTC Wildfire will be provided with a OTA Update with HBoot , a Bootloader which would be harder to crack / modify in order to Root the device.
What do you think about this???

Yes unrEVOked no longer works although as is the case with ANY update we can downgrade and use unrEVOked
Just install danne_Jo's ROM and forget about ruu and losing root.

Download RUU and extract the ROM out of the .exe, then let it go through Android Kitchen and we got a Official ROM with root.

So means Unrevoked will not update to help poor guys updated to 2.2?
Are you sure maybe they will figure out something to provide it!

So the second, dont install that ROM. hix
Downgrade???
Do you think the technical staffs of HTC com can downgrade this ROM to OS 2.1? They invent the upgrade utility software, so do you think they can do downgrade???? I am going to the warranty my device. How do you think so?
I am wondering the same, what would happen when I try to flash the 1.37 RUU back on the phone?
If you have upgraded to the offical Froyo either OTA or from RUU your stuck in a hole.
The update changed the bootloader in the Wildfire meaning it is currently impossible to root (which rules out custum ROMS) and you can't role back to a previous RUU because they are written with the old boot loader.
Thats what the original OP of this thread is about.....the fact that it could be a while before it's going to get re rooted via unrevoked or any other method.
So your just gonna have to wait until rooting is supported again by Unrevoked or some other app, or some clever sod figures out how to change the new Boot loader.
Hope someone figures it out soon :/

[Q] Bootloader issues..

please help me...
my wildfire comes with android 2.1 then i updated it into froyo 2.2 "Official version" after i found that it can`t be rooted..i downgrade it again into 2.1
but now every time in enter HBOOT i found some msgs about missing PC49img is missing and if i tried to enter recovery it give me
E:failed to open Cache/recovery/command
help me please..
HBOOT 1.01 cannot be downgraded. Even though you may have downgraded Android 2.2.1 to Android 2.1, your HBOOT is updated, and remains intact even after the downgrade.
Sorry about it, but, it is entirely your fault. There are now atleast a thousand threads here which ask the same thing (how to root 2.2.1), or, also warn you not to update to 2.2.1 if you want to retain root ability. Now, you will have to join the queue till a solution comes. (Or find someone with an XTC Clip)
Anyhow, refer this thread, should serve as a progress report:

i think 3xeno was being quite polite actually, there are ****loads of threads about 2.2 not being able to be rooted and also about ruu's and losing the ability to root.
i don't think it's laughing at someone that hasn't rooted phone, more being frustrated people don't search first.being either in forum or google, you can see for yourself how often new threads are started.
fair enough if you search and can't find an answer, but i would think it's getting to a point of forum etiquette. how can you expect people to take time to help, if you don't take the time to search?

[Q] XTC Clip and 2.2.1

Hi everyone.
I have a two questions about the XTC clip that I can't find an answer to using search.
When I purchased the phone it came with the unrootable hboot and Android 2.2.1.
I have sourced a HTC clip and will be unlocking my Wildfire today. Once unlocked will I need to flash an older version of hboot - to then allow me to install a custom rom? or can I just install a custom rom as soon as it's done?
My second question is has anyone actually done this and can confirm it works?
Thanks!
xtc clip -> s-off ->
downgrade phone with ruu rom -> hboot 0.8 ->
unrEVOked for root ->
costum rom.
The phone is now set to s off!
Know where I can get the Rom to downgrade?
Thanks!

aman_idrish
you really need to stop what youre doing. If you already could read, you would already know that you cant download xtc clip. Its an item you BUY on http://www.xtcclip.com and not a piece of software.
And NO it does not help asking the same questions 10 times, and then starting making private messages to people asking the same questions.
Now, start to grow up, use the search buttom and search for help, like the most of us. If you cant do that then I'm not sure you should ever bought a phone like android where you can make so many changes.
If you ever get it rooted, what can we then experience from you ? Questions about how you repair it from the disasters you have applied it ?
So start searching...... the answers are there including those you ask all the time. They have been answered.
@3xeno
can you tell me where i can download a softice, i'm really in the mood for one, but i cant find anything about it even though i've searched the forum ???? pls
p.s. it's not really hardware, its soft-ice

Thanks,
Downloading it at the moment - Thanks very much for the help. So I'm right in thinking this will downgrade my current hboot to a previous version - which will then let me install Cyanogen and other custom roms?
This is my first HTC phone so I have never actually rooted one before!
Hope this works.

No need of downgrade or Unrevoked if already S-OFF
Sorry to "disappoint" you guys but there is no need to downgrade & Unrevoked at all, if the smart is set to S-OFF.
Explanation is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12188132&postcount=15
NOTE: The method is successfully tested on several smarts.
If you want to suck the MAX of Wildfire try CyanogenMod 7 RC2 (need to reflash the radio to fix GPS), or better wait a while for stable release - coming soon.

i bought my wf on feburary, and i updated to 2.2.1 by ota. today i've got my wf s-off, so i decided to downgrade hboot but i have no idea which one should i download to go back to android 2.1 and hboot 0.80, please help i;ve waited way too long ^^

Stuck on 2.2.1 How to root/downgrade to 2.1???

Is there any way to downgrade to 2.1 so i can root?
Obviously 2.2.1 can't be rooted at the moment.
Any way to turn the s-lock to off?
PLeeaaaaaseee helppp!
NO! Sorry but please search before starting a new thread, there's at least 3 others on the first page asking the same question! 2.2 cannot be rooted due to a new version of HBOOT. It is possible to downgrade but you can't root it it still has the new HBOOT. I know unrevoked have been working on it for some time (early Jan). I've heard they've bricked a few phones too so I wouldn't do anything silly. There is no ETA for it so just wait patiently like (most of) the rest of the people stuck on 2.2.
Rant over!

Will htc at least release 2.3 gingerbread for wildfire?

I am just curious will htc release 2.3 android for wildfire??? Anyone know???
Best regards
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Unlikely. But, this has officially neither been confirmed nor denied. Someone sent a mail to HTC, and, got a standard automated reply "We will notify you if we are providing 2.3 for Wildfire... bla bla bla"
Anyhow, as I said previously, in my personal opinion, it is unlikely. More so now, because the Wildfire S is out.
Good point there... I mean it is kind of strange that we have custom roms for wildfire based on gingerbread that work quite fine, and then we dont have original rom with gingerbread... and then stupidest move of all is to lock bootloader and all that malarky that makes froyo unrootable...
Am I right or wrong???

It's to force people to ditch their Wildfire and get their new line of phones. Simple and cold business logic.
why the hell do u need official gingerbread on ur wildfire. the official froyo for wildfire updated the bootloader and implemented greater security on the bootloader, so that no one knows whether it will be rooted or not. 4months of work without any result.
i dont want official gingerbread on my device. and i dont want any further security on my bootloader. need someone to root my wildfire.
the answer to ur question is wildfire is not getting any official gingerbread. the 3 network in UK has already confirmed that.
the reason is simple. wildfire s is releasing this may, which decreases the htc support to the original wildfire.

Hero wasn't a budget device but the Wildfire is.
HTC Tattoo for an example is still on 1.6.
Also HTC UK said on facebook, "Because of the capabilities of the wildfire we think its best for now to keep the wildfire on 2.2"
Which makes no sense, Gingerbread is even faster.

great news dude. it means that even u can still root ur froyo wildfire now. ur patience benefitted u. to be patient is what i learn frm u.
and where is that modified version of official froyo update. can u give me a download link of it.
i think the modified version definately has an updated radio, updated recovery image, and other updated things leaving the HBOOT unupdated. do u face any problems with this issue.
i think the modified update is OTA UPDATE zip file. and in that ota zip file, we will see firmware.zip .
the firmware .zip contains boot.img and HBOOT file
i think u replaced the boot.img and HBOOT with an older version eclair RUU. am i correct
creators of the modified version, pls let me know how u did that.

No one has, because Gingerbread Sense does not boot on the Wildfire. Atleast yet.
Gingerbread is pretty light, It has the exact requirements of Froyo.
It will not run slow, there are custom roms that prove that.
HTC is just forcing you to buy a new phone.
I think I'll go Samsung next time.
From my expirence with samsung - DONT!! My tab has had no updates, is laggy (as all other galaxy s devices are) I would reccomend a higher end htc

+1 on samsung. I myself am thinking of getting a Galaxy Ace. Rooted my friend's ace yesterday - it was so easy! Just psneuter (superoneclick) is enough - and you have full system r/w access. Trying to get CWM running on it now
Actually, a lot of the new SE phones are supposed to ship with unlockable bootloaders. As far as I know, anyway. Neo, Arc and Play, at least. These seem to be fairly high-end.
Just wondering whether they will back out soon like they did with PS3's OtherOS option.
