I just had the black triangle show up on my phone saying there was an update available. I ran to the nearest wifi hotspot and connected and when I selected the alert it says there is no update available. After a couple of minutes the triangle came back again saying there was an update but again when I selected it, no update. What a buzz-kill! Anyone else seeing this? I'm with ATT using build 318.

Yep getting that here in the UK, unlocked streak on 318.
How strange, have just checked mine and it also had the grey triangle but "no software updates available"
Also UK unlocked 318
I am on 341.. in US ATT. Just checked for an update and I too just got the Grey Triangle saying a software update is available....
this should be interesting... gingerbread? nah
appears to look like Dell is testing out the notification setting. It goes to the web browser and checks firmware and service tag.. then routes from there. I am up to date.
I've got the update notification too, but no wifi access at the moment. I'm running .318 on an unlocked AT&T Streak. So its a false alarm? That sux!!!!

Same here. Got the notification but leads to "The device is up to date" page.
Is something up the corner?
Yup, same here...318 froyo bought direct from dell
Just posted this in Q&A as well. I'm getting the same.
I've been getting this a well, it said I was up to date. 5 minutes later the notification is back... And again nothing to update.
Edit: and again, and again, and again... This is getting old.

Same here. I am on a rooted froyo streak.
Possibilities:
There is a glitch in Dell's system (Dell just messed up)
There is an update in the pipeline, but the server isn't set up properly or just not ready yet.
There is an update ion the pipeline, but those with non-stock software installed get rejected.
Dell is using all of these clicks on the update notice to gather info on what users have on their phone
My guess would be the first one, but you never know.
Got the same thing. Stock 2.2 318 rooted.
No notifications running 319...maybe it's only targeting unlocked versions
Yep getting that here in the AU, unlocked streak on 318.
I got it on my stock 315 factory unlocked streak. I have no idea but it is annoying.
unlocked streak from dell, with 2.2 and 318, also got the triangle, but wasn't available by the time I got a wifi connection
Who knows maybe Dell is set to give out 341 2.2.2

I'm in New Zealand. I got the notification this morning. I'm not near wifi so can't test it. But i suspect it'll be like everyone else and that theres no update

So is there anyone left who owns a US streak and is waiting for the official 2.1 like me?
Or am i dumb and not understanding why i shouldnt just root it to 2.1? Ha i asked because all of my friends have rooted to 2.1 but ive just been waiting paciently for the official OTA.

Because 1.6 works fine meantime?
There's 1000's of 1.6 users, no least of which are 2.1 updaters who backdated (notice i didn't say downgraded) after deciding that 2.1 was bollox!
If the official release of 2.1 offers no improvements over the beta i wouldn't bother getting to excited. IMO all the 2.1 did was to remove all the good stuff from 1.6 and update the standard browser that i never use anyway!
Okayy cool thankss

Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Sadly, the latest word from Dell's blogger is "before 2011", which I'm sure translates into "last week of December" unless of course it slips and they claim never to have said 'before 2011".
I'm hoping he just gave a safe window to prevent another release date fiasco. Hopefully it'll much sooner.

I'm still running vanilla and I will do so most likely until a "real" version of 2.x comes out and the chefs manage to build some clean custom ROMs.
I don't need all the latest and greatest crap someone decides to poke into it, just mean and lean and I'll decide what goes in it after.
We all in the same 1.6 boat, waiting for 2.1 and best for 2.2

Yea, Ill wait for the OTA release as well. Actually for what I have been using the Streak for, Kindle for Android, it works very well. After the release, I will decide if I want to use my EVO as a hot spot or go with the alternate sim card for T-Mobil. T-Mobil has better plans than AT&T.
imma have to wait to bc coming from windows mobile i dont understand anything about android
First time user of Android myself (this August), initially was going to wait then realised that, with Dells track record, that could take forever (and yes, 3months is forever in phone world!). So took my Dell 00 unrooted, upgraded to 02 v1.6 then 02 2.1 (all in one go), and still unrooted!
No issues (knock on wood) except the usual, which are regardless of version, i.e phone standby consuming power, slow(er) maps/GPS lock etc, which aren't really problems per-se.
ok here we are ,jan 12 is here ,and the update is not here , dell and at&t are making fun of us.
It's all at&t at this point. Just waiting on them. Or you could take matters into your own hands and install 2.2 yourself using the qdl tool.

You know what I will call att customer service and ask why I dont have froyo yet and if I get a stupid answer I will flipout over the phone and give them a week or else I will take my business business somewhere else. I think all streak owners should do this and they might stop taking us for granted

Funny... if you call AT&T customer service and ask about the 2.2 update, you can actually hear the representative getting that "glassy eyed" blank, "rabbit in the headlights" look when you try to explain what you are looking for. AND then, you can expect to be guided through a long, boring script of "Have you checked the settings.. Have you restarted the device..." and whatnot, only to be told, two hours later that the update is still in production and no actual date has been set for the release for the update.
Better to spend that two hours beating your head against the wall, or poking yourself in the eye with a spoon... It will be less painful, and more amusing for you.

Don't hold your breath, AT&T has not released 2.2 for ANY Android device. 2.2 for the Captivate was supposed to launch back in October, and that phone is sold in retail corporate stores unlike the Streak. Just use the QDL method, you'll be glad you did!

"Cheating" is a very nice way of stating it. Personally, I believe that they are felonious bastards that are stealing from us.
Other than apple, anyone waiting on a carrier to release something, is going to be in for a long wait!
Do yourself a favor, read up on the qdl-repair tool, download it, and get the 309?
version of 2.2, then update using the update tool to 318, you'll be glad you did!
The only "glitch" is if you are running the x64 version of windows. I followed the instructions TO THE T, on both my home & laptop x64 win7 and had zero problems updating via qdl.

I called earlier and sent me to Dell who states that the update rollout starts today, but it will get to me when it gets to me... no solid end date... bout to use QDL tonight.

I called both dell and ATT they where very clear. Roll out starts today but it will take time for att to push it OTA.
I will say it like they do:" OTA update starts at the middle of the beginning of mid January, start of first quarter but just before Hell freezes over"
At least u are not a US Galaxy S owner. They promised no froyo upgrade. Bit will gladly sell u a new galaxy s 2.

waiting patiently.
So if that's the story has anyone got the update notice?

I don't understand these statements that it rolled out today, but it will take some time. Does that mean that some AT&T customers will get the update starting today then others will slowly start getting it? If so, why not let everyone get it at the same time?

I now am able to manually try to update. The update will fully download but when it restarts my phone to install the update the update fails. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

I don't get it why Verizon doesn't release 2.2. Samsung has the update for other phones/carriers, just not for Verizon. I just got my Continuum a week ago and a friend picked up the Droid2, and he has 2.2.
Is there a list of changes from 2.1 to 2.2 that I can look at?
I picked up a desktop and car cradle for my phone and both have a sticker saying "The 3.5mm audio out port will be fully functional when 2.2 is released to Galaxy S phones".
What the heck is that about?

here is the thread that is already discussing the update from att, hth and hand

I received mine with 2.2 installed. It was delivered on Jan 18.
Yup. According to the dell website it ships with 2.2 already installed in it. I'll confirm that wednesday when it comes in the mail.
i believe only unlocked devices come with 2.2, all locked devices are still stuck on 1.6 since carriers have yet to release an update for the streak
Last time I was on dells site, just last week, you could order with 2.2 or 1.6 and it is stated that they get 2.2 with ota. There was a slight price difference

You know you can upgrade it to Froyo on your own, without any annoying att restrictions/branding on the it. I was like you but got sick of waiting and loving it and would recommend the process to anyone

Read the articles on the QDL repair tool & video and do it yourself.

Exactly my thoughts which is why I did it myself and will keep doing it when new firmware comes out cos I am sure att will find a way to mess it up. Just waiting for gingerbread
I returned my Sony Xperia X10 back to Best Buy today, (main reason being the 1.6 version and wanted bigger screen). At Best Buy, none of the phones are live, so you have to take the salesman word for it. He said the Streak "should" have the 2.1 version.
NOPE!!! I get home turn it on and check... it's version 1.6.
What is with Dell??? This is an year old version now.
If I can't update between now and two weeks when my 30 days is up... I'll take it back.
So far, I like this phone... but I'd like to get it to enclair or gingerbread.
You just have to go in settings-->info about the phone --> updates...
And now you have Froyo.
A friend of mines first streak broke (home button stopped working) so they sent him a new one. Last week I met up with him to update it and the OTA update wasnt there.
I messaged someone i know about dell asking if the update was pulled and he said its still rolling out over the next 2-3 weeks and there will be a blog post over at direct2dell soon.
BUT if you don't want to wait for it to reach your device, search on here and modaco and you can find the proper ota update.pkg. Just d/l it, put it on your sd card, reboot the streak, hold both volume buttons, select option 2 and it'll flash 2.2
Since its an official release from dell, it should work just fine (did so on my friends red streak). No flashing lights, no issues, and if dell releases another OTA it should receive it with no issues.
Under the Streak wiki, you should find a link to the 340 update to get Froyo 2.2 on your phone. You can't click on the link, you need to manually type it into the phone.
Or the official can be found here:
http://mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_340_14844_31.pkg
Again, type it in manually into your streak and it should update.
PdaNet won't work?
Hey guys! Thanks for the responses. I was on the road all day traveling from N WA to S OR for a funeral taking place Friday. Just got to looking here on the forum.
I'll keep the phone. I'm impressed with it so far just running 1.6
The screen is just GREAT. Much better than the Sony X10 I had.
My only complaint is getting PdaNet to work on it. Won't accept the modem driver. I had no trouble installing & using PdaNet with the Backflip, iphone3 and Sony X10 before this phone???
I'll update the version when I get back home Sunday.
I went into a large Verizon store in Salem to look around today and the manager asked what phone I had, and I told her that I had the Dell streak. She asked to see it and she was very impressed. She hadn't seen one before and said it looked better than anything she had in the store. That surprised me coming from the competition. Didn't try to sell me a phone at all.
Well, it is off to bed. I'll be hanging here once I get back home and I think I'm gonna like it here.

Yea, same here... Got my streak yesterday and it was on 1.6 too... the software update screen said the same "No Software Updates available at this time" too... so I gave Dell Mobility a call at 1 800 624 9896 and told them I'd like to receive the update link sent to my email address.... which it turns out was the 340 ver for AT&T which I went ahead and downloaded from the XDA Streak Wiki and transferred to the phone and renamed to Update.pkg and performed the update via the vol +/- and power buttons and selected update (#2).... 15 minutes later - Froyo goodness (such as it is under AT&T)
Next stop: rooting!
