hmm
I haven't been able to get barnacle to work, but wifi tether works fine if I use one of the latest versions (not the version on the market):

I tried the one that is "pre10," but that's only because "pre11" wasn't there a week or so ago.

That's what has always happened to me with barnacle. I never tried too hard to get it to work, though, since wifi tether worked fine.

Pre11 doesn't work for me. I have the same problem where my laptop finds the network, connects, but does not access the internet. Replaced it with pre10 however and it works just fine. Did this both on stock EB13 and the ACS ROM. I'd say don't bother with the pre11 version if 10 works for you.

Anyone get wireless tether to work?
I installed the latest, and it looks like it's working on the phone, but I can't find it on the PC. I have my MT3G right next to me also, and wireless tether works fine on it.
Anyone tried to use wireless tether?

I know this isn't a real answer, but have you tried Barnacle? I've noticed it's much more dependable.
Never tried barnacle.
Can you tell me which version of wireless tether you're using that works?
It's in the 'Settings' 'About' tab.
Thanks.
I'm using Wireless Tether 2.0.5-pre3 and just not getting it to show up in windows.
When I use the same version on my MyTouch3G, it shows up fine in windows and works well.
From the DroidX I don't see the Android Tether at all.
I tried Barnacle, and it shows up fine in windows and seems to connect well. I get a little data tranfer, but the window on the Droid shows repeated reconnects du to 'NAT' at times, other times seems to work well.
Right now Barnacle seems to be working.
Wonder what is going on, especially with Wireless tether.
Does anyone know if any progress had been made with wireless tether yet? I have a ipad and I really loved having this ability on my nexus one. Does barnacle work with the ipad?

No problem, just the 2.0.8 versions say HIGHLY EXPERIMENTAL so they could not be as stable.
I am using barnacle wifi Tether right from the market, is working good, only issue is for some reason i cannot get WEP to work, so i have to keep it "open" but i only use it once and awhile so its not as big of a deal as it would be to others that use it allot. there is a thread already about it, that tells you what settings to use to make it work within the app.
Using pre7 apk of the wireless tether and it works most of the time, had a once the phone totally frozen had to do the three finger salute to reboot it.
Wireless Tether works. Have it on mine (rooted)
I was unable to get it working today using pre 7. Even barnacle wouldn't work without turning off wep encryption.

Same thing happened to me. It wouldn't work at all with the NoLED application running at the same time for some reason.
When tethering, the SSID will show up on my netbook, but not connect. It won't show up at all on my wife's phone.
None of the releases ever worked for me either. I'm rooted, I tried the experimental releases too. 5 shows up, I connect, but have no connection. Anything over just freezes the phone and I have to pull the battery.
I have a rooted Epic running 2.2.1. I installed a wifi tether program and ran it. Everyone can see it and logon except for my Acer 1810t netbook. I have tried everything I know but cant get it to connet to the wifi. Any input would be appreciated

Go to the wifi tether google code page and download the latest beta. Your netbook wont see ad-hoc, so you need wifi tether 3.0
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I have a 1410 and it connects to Wifi Tether 3.0 release 10 without issues on stock EB13 rooted.
Thanks for the input. I have tried 3 different tethering programs, barnacle, wifi, etc and none of them work. I guess i will jsut have to be happy with PD Net for the time being. There is just something about this laptop. It sees the adhoc netowrk it just won't connect to it.
I have the 1810tz and it works great with Wifi tether 3.0.

when you tried Android-wifi-tether you probably tried the stable version..not the beta...download the beta here:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_0-pre11.apk&can=2&q=
it should work...
I used Odin to put the phone back to stock. then I flashed the ROM to 2.2.1. Then I used one.click.root.exploitv2.5.5.zip to root the device. I then downloaded the file from the link above and installed WiFi Tether and it starts up. then I have both the WiFi Tether icon and an additional Hot Spot icon then the phone just freezes. Does it have to be ext4? I am a noob but learning.
Update: Went back ind rooted with clockwork 3.0.0.6 and converted to ext4 and changed the config to Samsung and it seems to be working.
hey everyone, I LOVE cm7 and stock android, but I use my phone to tether more than anything else and I need a solid tethering solution. My problem is that Wireless Tether app doesn't work with CM7 (at least last time I tried it) and the built in tether doesn't seem to work for me, (broadcasts but I don't get any internet connection)
Does anyone know of a way to Fix wireless tether app or why the built in one isn't working for me?
use barnacle tether, its free. but if the default settings arent working then go into the barnacle settings and click the "skip-wpa supplicant" or something like that. if it didnt work the first time it should work then
Thanks! I'll try that
I use the built in tether quite often on CM7. I am running rc3 right now and haven't had a chance to test it out but it has worked on the last 4 nightlies I've run.

the reason why the built in tether does not work for you is because you either used a wireless tether app or you have one installed. what you have to do is you must uninstall all wireless tether apps you have and then you must reflash your mod and obviously reboot once you do that it will be working for you. trust i just had this problem and i did a lot of research on it and i actually figured this out today and it worked. so give it a try and let me know how it goes. ^_^
would love to say this is the problem but it isnt
has something to do with dhcp, i can connect wirelessly to the phone np but wont get an internet connection because the phone decides to flake out and not assign an ip address for my laptop.
I tried to connect it earlier and it didnt work but i left it connected. I walked away, came back 10 minutes later and finally got an ip address and internet on my laptop. so either it just takes its sweet time assigning an ip or its tempermental
all good here
hi,
of no real help, but I am using CM7 stable and mine works without issue.
CM7 Final here and it works fine for me. Like others suggested, try wiping and reflashing.

it doesn't work on my phone with the update but I think you need root in order for Barnacle to work. someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Damn.. That means we have to use the APN method for tethering.
Correct, no Barnacle without root... I haven't had to tether since the update but I planned on using the alternate APN if I had to.
I am using Barnacle with new update on Atrix and works better than Android Wireless Tether for me.

opposite experience for me, barnacle works but has a weak signal and would disconnect and reconnect on its own often. mobile hotspot gives a strong signal throughout the house and does not disconnect on its own. btw barnacle does need root and you can get root with the update, check the dev section.

Same here. Barnacle was working fine before the update, after rooting with GladRoot, updating, and running AfterUpdate, Barnacle is not working any more.
It connects but is slow and drops in and out.
I'm running latest Gingerblur and Barnacle works fine for me.
Works fine, but you've always needed root for it to work.

Correct regarding root..........and I have also done a comparison between Barnacle and WiFi Tether.......................Barnacle gave me a consistent 1mbps more on download than WiFi Tether. Uploads were about the same. Don't ask me why, but that was an extended test the other day.
