battery stats observation - Xoom General

I don't know if this is a change in honeycomb or something Motorola did but battery stats persist through restart .so you can keepa running total for your battery as long as you don't plug it in

Awesome, I was wondering about that the other day... I restarted and it seemed to keep track of when it still was last plugged in. I think my EVO resets it if you restart (and so does probably every other device too besides the Xoom).

Gingerbread sometimes remembers it also. Haven't figured out what makes it do it cause it seems random on gingerbread.

CM5 or CM6 Battery Life ?

Which provides more battery life.
Im on CM5 now and my battery dies SO FAST you can almost see it going down just watching the screen, i have the screen turned all the way down, use only 2g networks. ever tried to under-clock, when i check battery usage says system idle uses 49%
any ideas ?
Are you serious?
Better yet, don't use the phone at all, that might save the battery.
Dude with those settings its like having a 20th Century device.
Flash another ROM or something, try wiping battery stats, it has been suggested all over the forum...
Why do I even bother...when the mods see this youre a gonner anyway.
It's not so much the ROM, its the apps and widgets you have installed. Some are poorly written, some don't play nice with other apps or certain set ups.
All you can do is install a monitoring app like system panel, and remove the apps that are using alot of CPU.
That's what I have done.

listen pal what im saying is my battery doesnt last for **** since i flased CM5 so im wondering if thats to be expected with CM5 and maybe fixed in CM6. but yea ur super helping that for the sarcastic reply, next time dont bother. ooh and btw i dont have to use the phone for it to die with in like 10 hours it will be idle the entire time and it will die.
Edit : OH LOOKY (Dev)CM's2.6.34.2(NR-6.35)(v0.63_08/16)(git updated-08/16)
**ONLY FOR NEW RADIO MAGIC-6.35**
Updated comp to 2.6.34.2 code, mic works, power issue is gone
look a possible fix with CM6...smart ass

and thank you for your helpful reply i will look into the apps i have.
EDIT: Battery usage says system idle is nearly 50% of usage, even after i kill all the apps :[
LOL! Wow, someone's a little edgy...
It's definitely not a "CM5 issue" that would be fixed in CM6 (CM6 is still in RC, CM5 has had several stable releases!) eyegor's suggestion to wipe battery stats was probably good advice believe it or not. Charge full, power off, leave plugged in. Boot into recovery and wipe battery stats. Power down, unplug and start up, let it drain allllll the way.
Check out xda homepage even - a battery calibration post!!
Battery life is pretty variable as you can see in the numerous threads on this topic. CM's forum has one with a poll with most saying CM6 is better, but not a clear cut answer.
I used SystemPanel's monitor function to identify which app was eating battery. It worked great! My biggest offender was Weather and Toggle widget. I loved its customization but its battery gulping was just not worth it. Got rid of it and my battery life is much more consistent.
I also got a cheapie battery off eBay which helped.
Both CM5 and 6 run perfect on my phone. No battery drains.
My point was that you're in the wrong section, pal.
You also might want to watch logcat while the phone is idle or sleeping to see if there are numerous errors or warnings scrolling by when there should be very little activity.
I have a similar issue. Initially I had the rediculous drain, but as mentioned wiping battery stats from recovery fixed it for the most part. Once it says its fully charged and you turn the phone off, let it sit charging overnight. Then wipe the stats in the morning and don't charge again until the phone turns itself off. Only issue I have now is that when I've got my GPS turned on, in use or not, it kills the battery. While in use I get about 2 hours from a full battery to the phone turning itself off. Haven't figured that one out.

ok trying the "recovery - wipe battery stats) lets you know how it goes

i was playing music at the loudest volume for an our just to test it and it only went down 3 percent battery life
thanks man
No worries. It freaked me out when I first flashed 5.0.8. I use my phone as an MP3 player in my truck with it plugged in to my CD players AUX Jack. Did a 5 hour road trip and only lost around 10% including a few phone calls.

Phantom Low Battery Shutdown

The first time this happened to me I figured it was a fluke. Now I've had a third time where in mid phone call my Epic has "thought" it's battery was drained to 0 and hung up my call then proceeded to shut down. The first time was in a busy train station in Chicago, don't remember the situation the second, and today was when I got another call beeping in while I was on the line. Each time when I booted the phone back up it showed plenty of life left on the battery.
Has anyone else experienced this or could it be my phone? I wish I could remember specifics from the first two occurrences, but I believe it could have been a call waiting situation as well.
FWIW, I'm on the MTD CleanGB 1.0.3 rom.
Does it go through a shut down or is it just off? If it is just off may be loose battery connections. Oh you said it shut down on the call....maybe it was a modem crash. Try reflashing a modem.

Mine actually did this last night while I was on the phone

It actually goes through the shutdown. Does the low battery double beep and pop up, then says shutting phone down.
Might need to wipe the battery stats then re-calibrate the battery. Mine has done this before, but I'm pretty sure it was from throwing the battery at my wall.

Quite possible. I think I didn't bother calibrating the last couple of times I've flashed a ROM. Going to go ahead and do that and hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Ya I've had the same issue I would have like 14% and while I'm in a call it would shut down
Just wipe status and calibrate it and it should be fine

I've had this happen, only on cm7 though.
Doesn't happen often so I've not been worried about it

This used to happen to me ALL the time. It was so frustrating, as soon as it hit 15% if I was talking it'd shut right down. Thankfully flashing the new GB roms seems to have fixed the problem. I sure hope it doesn't happen in CM7
I have this issue regardless of rom. Happens when on a call and low battery alert sounds.
Well, just did it to me again. I calibrated the battery after upgrading to the latest MTD cleanGB yesterday. I was in a building that had poor signal granted, but same thing dropped call, low battery popped up and it shutdown. I had 60% battery left.

Galaxy note update notification 26th July

Hi
This morning 26th on my note I had an OTA notification. Since I had no Wifi, I cancelled it. Now, when I do a manual check, it says 'no updates available'. I already have 4.04 (XXLRG) from an update a couple of weeks ago so it wasn't that.
Any idea what it might have been?
Hoping for some Jelly Bean soon since I like it on my N7.
Nigel
Omg. Seriously hoping this is foreshadowing the release of jellybean for the note...
Come on Sammy!!
Most likely not jb but to remove search the phone capability

Anyone took it yet?
Damned Apple and their lawsuits....
Pah!, it was just XXLRK, 4.04. It installed a load of rubbish without asking (all German due to CSC setting).
MyTaxi
Lieferheld
KaufDA Navigator
Hugendubel
HRS Hotels
All can be removed
Video in hovering window still works.

Installing that much (really, any!) crapware along with updates is not cool...
But give me Jelly Bean quickly and I'll forgive you, Samsung.
So. Anyone know if this update fixed the battery problem many have? And fixed the issue of bricking the phone when hard reset?

The OP just said that all it did was install a bunch of crapware.
Nothing else.
And it's improved the performance..

Now now....can't use this without "value added software" because your user experience won't be as good
I got this update yesterday. However I can't find the apps mantioned here. It only said "Improved performance". I don't know what they mean. I have had the problems with the battery. I had to either pull the battery for a minute or two, or I had to switch on power saving mode right after charging and leave it on for some minutes before turning off powersaving. I had to do this every time I charged the phone, or else it would not go into deep sleep. It would stay on 200MHz, and drain the battery in a matter of hours.
However, this morning I saw (using CPU Spy) that the phone had charged all night using 200MHz (this might be normal. I don't know this). I tryed to just pull the charger, without doing the steps mentioned above. And i see now, a couple of hours later, that the phone has gone into deep sleep since I pulled the charger.
It might be too early to draw conclutions on this, but it looks promising so far.
I have found no info about the update yesterday. I hope its possible to hard reset the phone without bricking it now, but I don't know.
I will keep monitoring the phone, and let you know.

IIRC the phone doesn't charge during deep sleep, so clocked at 200 while charging should be normal.

That is normal and always was.
After you pull the charger it takes few minutes and the note goes into deep sleep.

I explained badly I think. I have used the CPU Spy for some time now, and i have seen that the cpu use 200MHz when it charging. Good to know this is normal. The big difference this morning was that when I took the phone off the charger, it went into deep sleep. It hasn't done that for a long time. Before the update, it went on using 200MHz after charging, when it was supposed to go into deep sleep. The only thing I could do to get it into deep sleep, was to pull the battery og use battery saver for a few mins.
I just hope they have fixed the brick problem when doing a hard reset too!

Yehh. I asked customer support what the update was, and if they fixed the battery problem and brick problem. They answered that I had to hard reset to fix the battery problem and the update was "improved performance". So I guess I either have to live with a bad battery or bricked phone hehe. Kinda hopeless imo. Anyways, the battery still works good after update :good:

Massive battery drain and an eternity to charge

Hi,
This past week, my G2 has had massive problems with the battery draining when I have been doing basic things like web browsing etc.... I can literally watch the battery drop %'s every few minutes... the phone also gets extrmely hot up the top of the phone around near camera, it gets to about 50 degree... and to make things even more worringly it takes all day to charge to full, instead of it charging to full in an hour or so it will barely get to 50% overnight..
Does anyone have any ideas what the hell is going on??? It's running stock EU KK ROM
I'm having the same issue. For me it seems to be triggered when I connect to bluetooth in my car. Once the battery drain is triggered it continues even after I get of the car. I've gotten in the habit of rebooting my phone every time a turn off the car. A major pain but it works until I find a better solution. I've been thinking about wipping the phone but I don't want to go through the hassle if I can avoid it.

First thing I guess would be to try a battery stats app (Gsam for instance) and have that running from a full charge to see if anything is running without your knowledge.
Not even with a separate app, did you guys take a look at the "stock" battery stats?
I had once a big battery drain that was caused by the media server.
If I helped you, please thank me
Ive currently tried every battery stats app i can get my hands on lol..... I've gone through the 50+ battery guide using titanium back up.... I've disabled startup programs.... Geez even Sonic the hedgehog Ep2 was for some reason just always doing something and i never touch it lol.... Anyway I'll keep a close eye on it but i still can't explain the long charge times.... Maybe something will come up
Yeh I checked stock battery stats, the main hog seems to be bluetooth when it's not even switched on :/

What cable you using? All cables are not created equally. Try the cable and charger the phone came with. if that's not it try a different cable.

Im using loads of different cables...
I actually *think* I found the very unlikely culprit.... Google Chrome Camera!!!!!! Someone else commented on the exact same problems as me on the Play Store... which sounds about right because I've had the charging probs about as long as I installed the app.... So I've removed it and hopefully thats fixed it

I could see the app maybe causing the drain but I think it highly unlikely it affecting charging. I still like the cable idea for your slow charge. Go find your white one the phone came with and try it =)

Shuts down as if low-battery, but with 50% - 95% left!

This has been driving me nuts for ages, and now I just use the battery to transfer my phone from one charger to another! But to be honest I haven't tried anything to fix it as yet.
It started with my phone shutting down when I took a few photos - now, if my phone gets down to 80% I expect it to shutdown. It won't fire back up until I put it on charge.
Occasionally when I try to turn it back on, it wont fire up, and the blue LED comes on and stays on until I charge it or take the battery out.
Occasionally it will reach 50%, but that would be a rare occasion! I do still have the original battery, which is now over two years old.
It's a great phone - if only the battery would last longer than 10 minutes under use! It hasn't been rooted or anything - it is as I got it from new.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

A new battery is really cheap ( 15-25 usds) and probably would solve your problem.
There is no reason for this topic unless you have the original battery.

Dial *#0228# this will reset the battery calibration. Charge it to 100%..
see if the problem still remains that means your battery is almost dead and expect a random shutdowns at anytime

I understand that the battery is probably past it's best, but it was the fact that it states that it has lots of life left, and then acts as if it doesn't that throws me. That's the reason why I have posted this topic.

I've done this now. Thanks for the tip. It doesn't seem to have made any difference though so it's probably just the battery.
I just expected it to indicate the correct battery level in the battery level indicator.
