Hi,
is it possible to create a local calendar on defy without creating a google account or add a google account in android?
So we can use the android calendar 2.2.1 as a local calendar?
Can we create the database an use it or must there be a google account insert in android?
Andy ideas?
Possible?
Big thanks
dont think you can effectively use it without a google account as the android market requires one, for the minimum.
however, you can disable calendar sync so it essentially becomes a local calendar.
if you rooted, you can even remove the calendarsyncadapter.apk to make sure it cannot sync with google.
Try Jorte instead of Google Calendar. It have local database.

I know this is quite old already. Yet this suggestion is quite useless to me, so the question of the TO is still not quite solved: To get Jorte you need a google account again (to access the market/play store). Any solutions? There is no market on my device/rom, and I'm not eager to install one either.
Thanks, MW

Hello,
I would like to know if somthings exists (like ActiveSync) to synchronise your contacts and Calendar with Gmail ?
AFAIK this is the best thing so far...
I've read that there's a team at Google workign on this already but for now we have this:
http://www.grinn.net/blog/dev/2006/04/incorporate-google-calendar-into.html
I watched the link you sent me but the sync is a one way sync from google calendar to Outlook and then to your PDA. It seems to be the only thing existing for the moment.
Waiting for Google to correct this has they always do
I found this adress from google, listing all the APIs you can use to make applications working with the Google web sites and softs :
<http://code.google.com>
It could be useful to someone if he wants to make this kind of synch tool...
It seems rather weird that if you were to key in appointments on your phone which will not be appearing on the google calendar. It be a good idea to have your calendar to be published onto a website where everyone can see your schedule (if you let them) or at least they wil know when you will be busy or not.
Even the google works, you still need to have a google account to view the time table.
Google Calendar Sync
5 March 2008 Google Calendar Sync allows you to sync events between Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar.
http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=89955
You can now access your Google Calendar account from your mobile phone! Just visit mobile.google.com/calendar/ with your phone's web browser and once you're logged in, you'll see your list of upcoming events with date and time information in an easy-to-browse format.
Cheers
Tom
Hi all
Sorry if this is not an appropriate place to ask, but please let me know of somewhere more suitable if not.
I've got two google accounts bound to my N1. One is a google apps premier account (which I use for email sync) and a normal googlemail account (which I use for calendar and contacts sync).
I use Gtalk on my desktop PC's for the first account (premier apps) and not on the second one, however when I fire up Gtalk on my N1 it is using the second account and not the one I want! I have not found an option to change this behaviour.
Does anyone know how to change which account Gtalk uses on the N1?
Thanks
Android will use the account you entered first. I entered my google apps account first then the gmail account and if I now try to remove the gmail account it says I can't. This is because android has bound the gmail account to the services not supported on google apps accounts.

Hm. I added my gmail account first and then the gapps one. I too found that if I try and remove an account it wants me to factory reset my phone and lose all data/config! This is pretty crappy.
I'm hoping someone can come up with a hack or something to change this behaviour regarding gtalk as I certainly don't want to reset my phone simply to get gtalk working.
I think a reset is the only way for now :-/
This is really poor. Google have slipped up somewhat with annoyances like this
hmm... i've the same problem .. then all we can do is wait
My current workaround is to use the eBuddy application, which is working just fine.
Probably off topic, but has anyone had complaints from their regular buddies about the phone causing frequent disconnects/reconnects to their chat client? One of mine got so annoyed by the alerts that he has cut me off... (using pidgin with my primary gmail account)
(I'm guessing that it happens when I'm connected via wi-fi and voice calls come in... ? ) Does anyone have any settings suggestions for either 1) staying connected or 2) having it just wake up when needed?
I think you can go into Manage Applications in Settings, hit menu and then filter, then select All. Clear the data for Gapps and Gmail, and then reboot. If you do it right, it should ask you to login again like it did when you first turned your phone on. Login with whichever account you want to use Gtalk with.
As you know, Google don't have to/must not know everything, especially calendar entries of buisyness man.
I don't want google to know my appointments a.s.o.!
Is it possible to use the google calendar on the phone without synchronizing with the Google server but sync with the personal outlook?
Perhaps there is a independent calendar app, don't need to access the htc or google calendar, but is able to sync with outlook... AND is able to set appointments as private?
Perhaps it is possible to have my own "google server" for me and my family at home?
There's absolutely no need for synchronizing with google, you can always uncheck it if you don't want it and only synchronize with Outlook.
And there's also no need to even use the built-in calendar application, there are others in the market.
You just have to have a Google account, but that doesn't mean you have to give google your appointment details.
I don't know if there's an application where you can set your appointments as private, at least for Exchange server it is not possible, unfortunately.
I've not found a stand alone calendar application in the market with their own database. If you know one please tell me.
All calendars i found use the build-in google or htc calendarDatabase.
Yes, that's possible, I may be wrong. But still, with the built-in calendar you don't have to sync with your google calendar. If you just sync with Outlook, even though you'll see your appointments in the Google calendar app, they won't be synchronized with your Google account.
I use the HTC calendar app and sync it to my PC's outlook calendar and HTCSync. Same with my contacts. Don't go anywhere near Google for any of that
Yes, the htc calendar is a stand-alone app. But if you use your business calendar for privat, too, you need the possibility to set appointments as privat. And the htc calendar isn't capable of that.
Hey guys,
I know this isnt a Development related question, but i think a suitable answer to this question would be invaluable (i for one find myself installing all of the new builds as they come out). Is there an easy way to move things like calendar appointments and contacts from WinMo to Android?
Thanks

Use google's tools.
You can SYNC winmo contacts and calendar with Google's FREE online calendar...
then when you run Android, it will sync with the same data.
Also, when do use Google's online stuff, if you lose your phone, or you reinstall, all your contacts and calendar items resync with your new phone As long as you have a data connection (wifi or phone)
How can i get google sync to work in wm6.5? Here, in the activesync program, clicking the "set up your device to sync with it" link does nothing...
thats how it says to do it on the google sync website.

sorry, if this is not the right answer...
For WinMO - Use ActiveSync to Connect to your device, setup Sync Partnership, and it will sync from Outlook (emails, contacts, etc etc... depends on how much you choose)
For Android - the options are (depends on which accounts is selected to sync contacts)
1. Google Sync - It will sync your contacts from your gmail account
2. Corporate Account - if you are on exchange, this will sync all your contacts from Outlook.
these are 1 to 1 syncs.
-----------------
To do Outlook -> Gmail -> Android, I believe there are some software you can use... i read on google, but reviews are very subjective, and I have tried none, so wont be able to recommend.
For corporate use, I have heard CompanionLink and Touchdown to be good.

can you please post the link you are using ....
Sry I'm new so I can't post any links but searching "google sync" in google should return correct link in first result.
My suggestion - don't sync mail, it's buggy. Better use IMAP for gmail and sync only contacts / calendar.
If "set up your device..." link is dead (that was my case also) try searching ActiveSync menu for "server source" or something like that (my ROM is localized so I don't know how it's called in English version). When done proceed as in tutorial about google sync. My ROM is WM6.1 but 6.5 should work the same way.
YES I was able to fully sync contacts & calendar that way with my google account. Syncing works both ways and if you set it up correctly it will push any new or updated items almost instantly between account and a phone.

It works!
I though it tried it but i guess not. Thanks for the reply and welcome to the forums
Android uses its own internal google sync to make sure your contacts and calendar etc are synced with Google's servers.... GOOD
Windows Mobile is ALSO supported by Google who are using Exchange server!!!...you can sync over the air with ActiveSync (m.google.com)... look on Google's support site or search for "Google ActiveSync"... note, Google only supports Contacs, Calendar and Mail sync (push), it does not support tasks or notes.
Works flawlessly for me, except for STUPID HTC messing with the 'notes' field in my contacts. This is a HTC bug, so beware.
So basically, IF you use Google for your contacts and Calendar, you can keep WinMo and Android in perfect sync

I've just rooted my first phone (the Aria) and installed CM6.1 and am quite impressed. But I had a question to pose to you Aria/Android experts:
I used to use HTC sync to sync my Outlook's personal calendar and contacts, separate from work and Google data, and this kept me from having to store my "private" data in the cloud or on company servers. But HTC Sync is no longer a reliable option for this mod or the other popular ones.
I did find that CM offered a "Phone-only (unsynched)" address book whenever I created a new contact on the Aria. Then I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could use MyPhoneExplorer to populate that address book! Halfway there!
There's no unsynched calendar that I can find, though. Is it possible to define and maintain a calendar in this (or any other 2.2+) mod that is not synced with a cloud or Exchange? Ideally, I could then point MyPhoneExplorer at it, but I'd settle for any working calendar whose data never leaves my phone.
Thanks for any guidance anyone can offer.

What I did was to set up an exchange account to create the calendar, but then set the account to not sync. I too use MPE and copy my events to the local calendar.
Ted, thanks for your reply. That is indeed a creative approach.
I already have my Aria synching to my office Exchange calendar (for office appointments, naturally). How do I setup the second calendar? Will I have to define a second Exchange account? Or a separate calendar folder/sub-older or data file?
Maybe I can simulate this approach by defining the new calendar using another Google account? I'll give that a try.

You can always create a dummy account with hotmail and use the calendar associated with that account. Don't use exchange here, so I have no experience with setting up multiple accounts, but I'm sure it is fairly straight forward.

Work for a fortune 500 company that had very strict IT rules and you will know
Fyi, where I work, it is a terminatable offense to put company data on servers outside of the company firewall, including calendar data. So this is a very useful workaround for my situation. I was almost ready to revert back to Sense because it had the private calendar, but found this hack and was thrilled to toss out all remnants of Sense from my phone and computers - hated it that much.

I set up a "scratch" calendar in Google and saw it defined in my Aria, but when I use the stock Calendar settings there to mark it as unsynched, it also makes the calendar invisible.
Ted, if you don't mind my asking, are you on 2.2 and what calendar app are you using?

I'm running CM7 with the stock calendar app. I looked at several of the calendar apps out there, but none had the integration with the LPP calendar widget.
Don't believe that you can have a google calendar that is not synced. I turned the exchange sync off on the main sync settings page

I've got it working now!!
Forgive my "dense-ness." I haven't used Hotmail before and didn't know it offered Exchange functionality. I setup a new account at Live.com, synched it to my Aria, and then told the Aria to not sync its contacts and calendar there. Presto! Unsynched calendar (and contacts)! MyPhoneExplorer now has a private repository to work with.
Thanks a million to Ted for his directions!
