[Q] Rom advice needed (specific requirements !) - Touch HD General

Hi Guys,
Have replaced my TouchHD with new phone, and wanted to use it as a dedicated Tomtom (and other satnavs) prob. without a sim. (not fussed about traffic etc..)
Could you guys reccomend a Rom that is quick running, and smooth/accurate with tomtom? Doesnt have to be a mega-bells-and;whistles build just Superclean, superfast & super reliable !!
I have looked into some roms, but all are very complete with apps and stuff I dont need.. and I have never ventured into the 'kitchen' This is not some lame "which rom is the best" thread !! I understand its subjective.. but given the subject
Your advice woiuld be very much appreciated.

How about stock ROM. Simply turn TF3D off and You'll see how fast this ROM can be

This is a question that has been asked many times before in other threads. All you need to do is search.
However I'll answer your query this time.
Most people change there rom as they are not happy with the original roms userability, speed, etc and are curious at trying out other roms to see if this has improved as well due to their looks, additional apps, tweaks etc.
Also you cannot get wm6.5 without flashing to a cooked rom, and generally wm6.5 is more finger friendly.
If you read first few posts of each rom thread you will see what is on offer in each particular rom, and with latest roms, this should be significently different to your stock rom. Manila will also have changed as stock roms are generally using manila 1.3 or less while my current rom uses manila 2.1 which is greatly improved as it also has the additonal benefit of being landscape compatible.
Best advice would be to ask yourself what are you looking for on your current phone, and then ask, can my phone do this now. If not, search elsewhere to see if this can be done on another rom, then read flashing guide and flash to that particular rom.

new HD2 user!

hello xda, im new to the site and the HTC HD2! first of all i would like to ask, what can i do with this device and how can i do it? so far all i have done is put cookies home tab, fpsece 0.10 and morphgear with emulators, plus a few other apps onto the device. what interests me with this phone is being able to unlock the extra RAM and if this makes a difference to performance, and ofcourse, how the hell do i flash a custom ROM! also, audio booster is anoying the heck out of me! it keeps switching off randomly, even though i have installed a patch? from the "tweaks" thread! any help appreciated for a newb guys!

Have a read of this, it will help you get your head around flashing

You can't really go wrong flashing the Artemis ROM, so if you're new to it (like me!) then I'd do that one first. I updated to bepe's HSPL first, but I'm not sure if you have to. I think you can do a bit of damage if you install some of the more 'complicated' ones, if you're not totally sure what you're doing, which is why I've not tried it yet!
thanks for the help guys. do you know if there is any way of keeping audio booster preset on? it keeps switching off and its really pissing me off, im thinking of sending the phone back, ive tried the registry tweak, i can stop audio booster from closing but my custom preset changes after each song! aaarggghhhh!

general help new hd2 user.

Hi all .
im a new member but long time reader of these forums.
i have an htc hd2 flash size 512mb..ram size 448..rom 1.72.161.3(82124)wwe radio 2.07.51.22_2.
i was lucky enough to get this handset of a friend who found it to difficult to use (he's iphone now).
as far as i can tell its a vodaphone handset(splash screen when turned on) but must be unlocked because im an orange user.i have in no way flashed anything or tweaked anything.
im loving this handset ,used a friends iphone and got bored in 10minutes of use.i have read alot on flashing roms and radio but to be honest im finding it difficult to understand, not sure what hspl and spl is,and why radio is seperate when flash sometimes?i have searched forums but just need a helping hand to start then im sure i would be fine.
so any help and advice on improving this handset would be greatly appreciated.
many thanks
ok so spl is stock it means the phone is locked so you cant flash custom roms (i think im right lol) hspl means its unlocked (but not sim unlocked) you need hspl to flash a custom rom, its easier now then when i first got my hd2, you can just use hspl 3 now and you just choose from the drop down menu one that ends in hspl,
Radios often don't come with most custom ROM's because the chefs have there roms tested with certain radios for performance wise, I would say every custom ROM will tell you what radio is best advised to use, for there rom, flashing a custom rom will remove everything from you're phone so be sure to save contacts with myphone or pim back up something like that, you should take a read through this thread mate its quite easy once you read it and then read it again just make sure it is quite hard to brick a hd2 or a htc phone unless you havent really read properly but there is plenty of people here if you need help, if you get stuck just ask before you flash better safe than sorry

many thanks for quick reply.
the link u posted sent me to t-mobile version, i thought my handset was normal version the keys at bottom of handset arent coloured green and red .
is it worth going from stock rom to a custom one?
i find the stock ok but does tend to slow up if i dont stay on top of task manager and shut down programs which are still running, even though i did exit out of them.
im reading through forums again trying to understand this flashing option.quite annoyed with myself as i tend to be normally ok at flashing things done it with my tomtom etc.
many thanks for time and patience
hi..
i think im getting there (alot of reading to be sure)
is it actually worth using a custom rom ?
if i decide not to flash a custom rom
can i still apply the tips and tweaks to handset..for example im looking at the landscape.cab will this make all features move to landscape instead of just a few applications?
and any other tweaks i choose from xda vast list.
many thanks for time and patience
search for bsb tweaks. You can use any of them except for the decrease phone sensitivity and tap time.
Also, any tweaks should work on your phone.

I am currently running the stock Rom I have had a few different roms on my HD2 and there all different and good for a lot of different reasons I eventually went back to stock just for a change as I mainly use my phone for work and some Roms still have a few bugs.
I installed cookies home tab (CHT) which is awesome and BSB tweaks and I find thats got my phone working great.
Best thing is even if you try everything you can always go back to start so give it a shot everyone will be glad to help as long as you search for an answer to a problem first
Just think about what you want from your phone and look at what others have done there is a plethora of information here
Enjoy

If you dont plan on flashing to a custom rom, somethings you should look at
co0kie's Home Tab and CHT Editor
Bsb Tweaks
cleanram
Chainfire's 3d driver
data controller
also read tboy2000's thread
for games and some apps, check this site out, i suggest you download the omarket app to make life easier
and also moving the album cache, look for tune4's cab as it saves tonnes of space!
those are the basic few to make sure everything runs nicely...
many thanks for all your help and info.
im just checking if i got things right if you dont mind checking.
my handset is a vodaphone but sim free (im orange)
ive download HSPL3 which i run from pc desktop via usb to htc hd2.
but i have to check spl version by press volume down as well as reset button on back or is it via settings etc?
once hspl is on handset i choose which rom (unless stated otherwise) and run it like a normal rom upgrade .and voila alll done!?
radio is to do with wifi and calls and doesnt need changing unless have to?
many thanks for help again, and i will check out above threads as well.
i think i will get it in the end just a steep learning cure,do i once and know doubt i will be was that all it took.lol

If I flash my HD2 T9193 will I still have acces to ??

Hi all, yes sorry newbie nob here.
I have been reading this site for days & days to make sure I get it right but still not sure
If I load a HSPL and then a ROM (which one I have nooo idea) will I still have the Outlook and Office software or will that be wiped out to.
The main reason for getting the HD2 was the original functionality but I need to loose the Telstra hardcoded stuff.
thanx
There are so many Roms to choose from
Dutty, NRG, Chucky etc they are all great as they all offer different things for different users
Most will have the same stuff you are after usually called a stock Rom
others will have lots of stuff taken out LITE Roms
Choose a Rom chef and look at the Rom they are providing stick to one in the beginning to get used to flashing and read there threads they will usually have what is included at the beginning of that ROM thread if ur not sure ask in that thread most users here are very happy to help you out as we all started where you are now
To get started go to the ROM section and have a real good read at the thread on flashing your first ROM for noobs. And before you decide to do anything, re-read the first post.
Just so you get the hang of it, it is best to HSPL then flash the latest HTC ROM (this includes the main ROM and the Radio ROM). Once you feel a bit more confident, then you can go ahead any try the custom ROMs - remember that the custom ROMs will specify which Radio ROM has to be flashed prior to flashing the main ROM.
The main ROM includes the operating system, Office mobile, Manila & all the programs you already have except the operator specific ones. The Radio ROM controls all connectivity - WiFi, FM Radio, Bluetooth, GPS, telephone connections (including data) - it also has a major impact upon battery.
Thank you, thank you, thank you this answers everything (well for now)
I'll go read the Flashing your 1st ROM for Nobs AGAIN - think I've read it 10 times now lol
Oh I think I'm going to enjoy this new phone adventure

To answer this question: Most, if not all, custom ROMs contain Outlook and Office Mobile -- they are essential software in WM.
On a sidenote: It's best to try out multiple ROMs. That way, you can find one that suits you best.
I don't believe it, after weeks of being a total NOB and reading and re reading I have finally flashed a rom to my HD2 -
It was easy thank you all sooo much - now I'm hooked. lol

[Q] Which WM6.5 Rom most stabil & best ?

Hello,
I want to ask which one WM6.5 Rom most stabil & best ?
Because i want to upgrade from WM6.1 to WM6.5
How to make 2 OS (operating system) in my PDA.
I want to use WM6.5 & Android?
How to install use 2 OS.
There is no best ROM. If you ask 5 people, you get 5 different answers.
If you don't understand the basic tasks needed, you better leave flashing to someone else...
The only way for you: READ THE STICKY POSTS and the FAQs in the WIKI.
There is a specific reason they were written: Noobs like you.
Mods: Please lock this noob/nonsense thread
This one!
I have used different ROM's. I have used Dutty's, Miri's, Energy ROMS. Both WM 6.5 builds 21..., 23..., 28...
But I wanted speed and much memory left.
So the ROM I am using now, as you can see in my signature, is the best for me.
After a soft reset, there is 150 MB RAM memory. With Energy ROM 23... I only had 70 MB RAM.
The battery goes for days and I am a heavy user.
This is a very clean ROM without Manila, so you have to install everything yourself.
Glad to be of help...
in the touch hd rom development section you will find a variety of roms by different chefs and every one of those tries to make a rom, that is fast and stable and most of all, to their taste of style and features. rom threads are marked as [ROM| or [RELEASE| and for most, you will find the release date, rom language and version and manila version in the thread's title, which will give you a brief idea, which roms are not for you, e.g. if you want an english rom, ignore the NLD and PTG roms. and have a look at the screenshots in the threads to find one style, you could live with every day. there is no point in flashing a rom that is fast, stable and has a lot of features, when it is hideous and you can't stand looking at it.
in the end you will find maybe 3 roms, you like and you can simply give them a try. remember to back up your pim data, with pimbackup or outlook or ms myphone, because flashing requires a hard reset and you will lose all information stored on the phone. and a word of advice:
you will not find a rom that is as fast or even faster than the stock rom, they are all slow, but they give you more features and more eye candy, which kinda makes it worth a try.
by the way, i am using cloudy's v0.6 wm6.1 with sense 2.5, with a good sense version, the wm behind it does not really matter.
for instructions on how to flash a rom, have a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
for android as a 2nd OS, have a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732362
i also recommended cloudy rom, flash the latest version since it release till now, few week past, never hang even on heavy use.
Think this thread has been kept open long enough. Everyone has different tastes, like & dislikes so the perfect rom does not exist. You've been given a few pointers above
