Flashing/Modding for Apple Users. - Galaxy Tab General

While I appreciate all that the modding/hacking community has done for us I and a few others will admit to feeling quite left out when we are using a Mac of some sort.
It seems quite dumb and weird to use an unstable platform such as windows to flash a sensitive device such as the Galaxy Tab.
Yes we know that there is Parallels and Boot Camp but again that is using a unsafe foundation for a sensitive operation.
Will there be any NATIVE tools for the Apple users soon that have the exact same features and uses?
KEEP THE COMMENTS CLEAN. WE WANT THIS TO BE A FRIENDLY TOPIC! THANK YOU!

As has been previously mentioned, Heimdall is available on OS/X, so you didn't really research this topic too well before posting!
Having said that, whilst I have 3 Macs, I still prefer to use Odin on Windows, and I thoroughly disagree that Windows is unstable. It can be made to be unstable, true, but a well maintained an administered Windows system (especially x64) can be very stable indeed!
Regards,
Dave

I apologize then. I am not a fanboy of anysort I just do not trust Windows that much anymore due to issues with it. My apologies if I offended anyone with my "views".
When I searched for OSX Software for some odd reason this "Heimdall" did not show up. Guess I put the incorrect parameters in.
Thanks for setting me straight.

Does not matter.....you got what I meant right? Sorry if it offended you in some way.

I use Odin from a Windows 7 virtual machine within Parallels, it runs fine.
I'm also running OS X, but not on Apple hardware, as my system is roughly equivalent to the most powerful system they offer (as far as CPU/GPU anyway), but built for about 1/4 of the price. I don't want to pay the premium mainly because the hardware has their logo on it, but the OS is fantastic.

Technically he said "Apple users" never mentioning any OS, and considering that Mac OS X runs only on Apple hardware (or hardware pretending to be Apple like for the relatively rare hackintosh users) he's quite correct. On the other hand a MAC is a Media Access Code and not a short version of Macintosh...
That said: yeah, Heimdall. Requires a restart since it installs a kernel extension, but it works well.

WM 6.1 ROM

Exist any WM6.1 ROM for HTC Dream ? Please dont ask me why I need this.
Thanks.
No, not going to happen, been asked many, many, many times already.
why not ? where is the problem to cook non official ROM ?
For one, its a waste of a perfectly good phone to put that CRAP on it. If you want a piece of crap, buy a piece of crap.
Second, the required drivers simply don't exist.
What do you men crap ? OK, the second explanation is better.
I think lbcoder got it right. windows mobile IS Junk. I have a Kaiser in addition to the G1. The Kaiser has great hardware minus the KB, small screen, and quiet speaker, but it has a horrific OS e.g. It's slow, locks up, restarts itself for no reason.
The G1 however has a great OS that needs little or no changing at all, but dumbed down hardware.

Bottom line is if you want WinMo, buy a WinMo phone. Most of the hackers working on HTC Dream are working on Android.
Oh yeah and use the search.

Now that I think about it; I sure wouldn't mind the ability to dual boot. Not even sure why but maybe just for that hell of it.
Makes no sense
I had the T-mobile Dash before the G1 and wound up giving the dash to my wife. I was helping her learn to use it and only then did I realise how goofy the setup of it all is. They say the beauty of it is that it tries to emulate the Windows experience, but if my desktop worked like that...I'ld have a mac.

That being said I'm STILL excited to see what WinMo 7 brings to the table.

WP7S on N1?

Will there be any Windows Phone 7 Series for the Nexus one?
Would be nice to test the new OS on a phone. Hope some of XDA's talented developers would look in to this when the time is right

I hope someone pulls through and does it, althought we are short one hardware key to match up the win7 requirements.
I don't really see it being an issue getting on here, alot of the hardware will be on other phones so drivers should be around.

Yes Winmo sucks, but I hope the new 7 series will do something with this, and if it becomes a good mobile OS i don't want to buy a new phone.. I love my N1 and i think it could be fun to play with.
As far as becoming a good mobile OS, it's not off to a good start. No multitasking, no copy/paste, and today I saw someone say that Microsoft has disallowed development of applications that rival native applications. Seriously, are they retarded? Those are some of the worst things people complained about with the iphone.

[Q] OS switching windows - android - windows

First let me say thank you to the xda community. I have enjoyed several android rom on my HD2 and will continue to support and test roms hoping to make a permanent transition one day.
Now on to the meat of the thread. Since there are still several flaws in most builds still why not create a app that shuts down or suspends the session of android os without having a power cycle or hard reboot. This would allow the use to take full advantage of both OS surly making it the ultimate device.
Great. Now YOU go make one then.

Think its a pretty valid question. This would be good but don't think it is possible as Android can't access NAND yet and I'm guessing thats where the windows Kernal is so don't think it's possible. I may be totally wrong tho.

Games/Xbox Live + much better media player + a more interesting/unique UI/UX? Why not have the option?

That sounds like Communist talk. You red?
I wouldn't mind a WM7 skin. But I have my Xbox for Xbox Live...I don't really play the arcade type games, so I wouldn't have use of Xbox Live on my phone...unless you can put Reach, Tier 1, Crysis 2 or MW2 on a cell phone...with good jitter/ping/lag/etc.
Count me in for a wp7 port.
Ironically some proponents of openness only possess openness in their phones and not their minds. I'd like to see it happen just to see it happen.
Yah I would like to try out wp7 on the evo. I don't think the games would run as good as a real wp7 device.

Omg...have you ever used wm? It is incredibly buggy and maxed out with bloatware. Open source allies for changes. I just like it for its xbox live integration and gaming features.

I think it is rushed and they are trying to get in the game and secure a position. WM platform was dreadful for me hopefully this changes with WP7.

Anyone trying Windows 8?

Kind of off topic, but I'm just curious to know if anyone's tried out the Windows 8 developer preview. I'm trying it right now, and it's honestly not that bad. Some things still need work, but it's definitely something I could get use to.

I thew it on my 4 year old cheap laptop and after figuring out how to navigate the start menu I really like how fast it is. Only problem is I can't seem to be able to install .net framework, hence phonemypc won't work (I wanted to test drive metro ui on my epic since its touchscreen optimized) I'm gonna keep it on my laptop until the beta expires but I'm sad to say that I want a windows 8 tablet waaaaay more than even an ice cream tablet.

Yeah I'm using it on a partition on my brand-new laptop. I really like it actually!
Metro UI is a bit to get used to, but I love using the touchpad multi-touch controls to navigate from panel-mode to the standard desktop, bootup is much faster, and I can share files fine between my regular Win7 partition and the Windows 8 partition.
@xopher.hunter, I had an issue with .NET 3.5, but it installed fine after a restart. YMMV...
I bought a Touchpad during the fire sale, and have yet to receive it from HP Small Business (have to wait for the last production run), but I wanna put Win8 on it when the ARM build gets out.
Im waiting for a windows 8 tablet to come out
I do NOT like the UI for desktops :/
WIndows 7 for my PC, windows 8 for tablet.
fk yeah.
Microsoft killed all of my interest in an android tablet when they revealed the metro ui windows 8. PERFECT TABLET OS (atleast based on what ive seen, it has all the right things.)

Its this 10 dollar app in the market, yes it is a remote desktop client but very well done and very simple to set up. Its a freaking life saver if you forget something on your computer.
I still haven't been able to install .net 3.5.1, I even dl'd the standalone but it still wanted to use microsoft update to install, and I rebooted it too. Oh well this is why I put this on my old ass laptop. Runs like a champ though only on 1.86ghz and 1.5gb of ram it seems ready for tablets alredy.

I personally am hating the metro ui...its to hard to navigate. It's too big of a step. To me, its clunky. People were afraid of vista because of the glossy difference from xp, this is like 100x worse.

Idk, I agree it's too tablet-like, but I like how everything is together.
Definitely doesn't make sense for a computer though.
I feel like we're going backwards a bit since we're basing computer UI off of mobile UIs which are meant to be more compact.
Even in OS X Lion, they had the "Launchpad" feature where it looked exactly like you were on an iPad.
Why do companies think people like this?

Idk. Maybe because they think it looks better than just a plain list, but now they're more interested in eye candy than functionality. Why can't we have both.
On the other topic, I would like to try windows 8, but it's not really useful for me since I have a 1024x600 netbook, so Metro Apps don't work. I've tried the hack that makes resolution higher on Windows 7, but it looks horrible with that.
my question is the lifehacker site says you need to burn a dvd or use a thumbdrive, can I also use a SD card? (don't want to waste a DVD and have no RWs at the moment)
Also will doing this erase everything on Win 7? I dual booted Ubuntu once and it didn't but LifeHacker says something about formmating the drive

Will not erase everything as long as you boot to dvd or usb (I don't think SD cards are bootable). You don't need to format, you need to partition (which is like grouping your hard drive, with one group for windows 7 and one for windows 8)
