3G issues - Fascinate General

If this is a repeat thread, I apologize but I'm not having any luck finding this specific issue.
Since using EB01 I've noticed my signal bars going frequently from 2-3 bars down to 1-0 bars, yet checking the signal strength in the About Phone>Status section it is consistently in the -80s, which is relatively good signal.
After a while I started noticing that if my 3G icon was showing up and/or down activity, it would show only 1 or 0 bars, yet when it switched to "D" (meaning dormant), it would shoot back up to 2-3 bars, until data started flowing again then it would go back to 0-1 bars.
As I started troubleshooting this, I was using the Speedtest.net app to check my download speeds. When data was showing that low, it would either time out or would give very low speeds (in the 100k's both up & down). Sometimes it would go up to the 200-300k's.
Now here's what I don't understand: if I turn off my data connection, then turn it back on, my data connection goes back up to 2-3 bars again, and download tests go back to the 600k-1mbps speeds again. So it's like it's losing data reception until a fresh connection is made.
I've tried both some of the Superclean ROMs including the latest 2.8. I've been using the EB01 voodoo kernel. I also recall when I was running the EA28 OTA update before rooting that it was happening as well. Right now I'm back to the stock debloated deodexed ROM with the same voodoo kernel and switched to the DL09 baseband radio and had this happen.
Has anyone else run into this problem? Does anyone recommend a certain ROM/kernel/baseband combination to see if it will help?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You know, I never really paid it too much mind, but I MIGHT have a similar situation. Though, I don't have to reset the connection, it just up and down drastically a lot. I will look into this myself, see if I can find anything to help you.

Yup. I had this problem too. I had a phone that initially came with DH rom. After I flashed EB01 modem and rom, I was missing 3G for 30 seconds after I wake the phone up. Practically the same symptoms: bad battery life, low up/down 3G speeds (I had ~100Kb/s max). I tried to flash different modems DI, DJ, DL, EB, tried different non-voodoo kernels, different roms, nothing helped. Even ODIN back to full stock DI01 did not solve the problem.
Solved with getting a replacement phone. After I got a replacement with EA28, I got double battery life and great up/down speeds. So right now I am wondering: should I risk my phone to flash leaked EB01 again?

3G stops switching back after wifi?

This is a strange one. I have been using Fresh Evo 3.2.0.0 rom for almost a month and it works great. I wanted to try another rom so I tried the VirusRom... it was good but I liked Fresh better. So reflashed my Nandroid image and all was well.
But then I started seeing a lot of failed connections to the market and noticed that my 3G was not connecting. I live in Chicago so I am fully covered by 3G in this area, and even 4G in many spots. Usually when I leave a wifi area, the phone switches back to 3G almost instantly. But ever since nandroiding back to the Fresh Evo 3.2.0.0 rom, it only works after a reboot. As soon as I hit a wifi zone and then lose it, 3G doesn't switch back on.
4G and Wifi both work, but if I disable both wifi and 4g.. 3g doesn't come back without a reboot.
I've even switched off the Mobile network using the widget and the power button menu.. no luck. Only a reboot brings it back.
So then I even did the trick to get my PRI up to 1.40 and that worked fine. But no change in the behavior of 3G. When I reboot and 3G is working, it works great as usual. Just not sure why the switching no longer works. I even tried switching back to the rooted sprint stock rom.. same deal.
Anyone else having any issues?

yes, I have noticed this at times. Just happened to me. Failed connection when switching off 4g to 3g. Using fresh 3.2. But I noticed this as well on other roms. I had to reboot each time to get 3g working again. I also reset my data connection last night but it obviously didnt work.
I've been having issues with my 3G for the past two days. Similar story, I did and Nand restore and that is when it started.
I am getting an error code 67 everytime I switch from Wifi, 4G or even when I reboot to try and fix this. Usually if I let it sit it will come back, but the error message popping up is quite annoying.
Wish I had something more helpful to say, but I can just add that I'm having the same problems switching from wifi to 3g. Even after 3g turns on it will sometimes turn off again randomly and I will have no connection. I'm also running fresh. In addition my 3g signals are quite week. kinda a mess...
Weird. My phone did this today for the first time. The thing is, I've been on Fresh 3.2 for a month now, and I flashed the latest Baked Snack rom yesterday to test it out. It never did it while I was on Fresh, but today after turning off WiFi, it wouldn't connect to 3G for anything. No text or data transfer at all. After I rebooted it, it started working again, but my phone never did this while I was on Fresh.
I am having the same problem and I am using Fresh 3.2 as well. I did go to a different rom but then went back to Fresh's rom and that is when it starting happening to me. It will only pick up 3g now and then and even when it does my speed is super slow. Hoping someone comes up with a fix as I made my own post but no one seems to feel the need to reply to it.
Theories...
Same here. I'm on Baked Snack 1.7x
I know Fresh and Hero both use some of the same components. I flashed to Cyano and have had no problems with the 3G radio. It's very snappy switching on and off after wifi connects and disconnects.
I do know there have been one or two issues with the radio with people who are on the 3.28.651.x roms. (for instance, if you enable 4G then disable, sometimes it randomly turns off and on without you knowing until you restart)
So my guess is maybe the 3.28.651.x series is glitchy. You guys want to try going back to 3.26.651.6 and do some testing?
happened to me on stock. Had to reboot the phone to fix it.
This seems to be working for me today with no problems so far. I am wondering if a tower was down with Sprint putting up the 4g around my city. Will keep posted if it happens again but seems to be running like normal now.
This has to be network issues maybe the latest PRL.
Mine has did the same last couple days also on power on , it takes longer for 3G icon to kick in.
Signal flux has been occurring more then norm fast download - Upload speeds taking hit some parts of the day.

I am on 3.26.651.6 build and this was happening. I am no longer having any problems with this. I do feel this might have been a problem Sprint's servers were having. Seems like everyone started having the problem right around the same time.
It must be... Going to an older PRL didn't help, and there are a bunch of forum topics being created about this on other forums as well. Guess it's time to play the waiting game.
My issue is so bad right now even if I restart my phone, it doesn't even get data connection right away. 10 minutes waiting now and error code 67's keep popping up.
This just happened to me today. It took me awhile to connect the error statement to the fact the 3g didn't turn on after I turned off wifi. But I was able to press the 'data connection' button on the switchpro widget to turn 3g back on.

That is how I got it working a little bit last evening but as I said in my last statement it is finally working and has been all day. Not sure what the deal actually was as I did not change anything since 2 evenings ago. I am thinking that Sprint is doing something which is messing everyone up at one point or another.

3G in constant drop loop

Since yesterday my 3g has been randomly dropping and the icon will disappear as well. If idle the icon will vanish for about a solid minute, come back then drop anytime after 10-15 seconds. If I manage to keep a constant connection, the icon won't vanish. However it is horribly slow now.
This is my first cell with data and such so I'm not sure if this may be a naturally occurring 3g bug. It did seem to happen after a few days of several hours worth of shoutcast streaming. A few rom downloads as well due to my home net being broke too.
Been running jt's clean.02 and it's been rock solid. Tried flashing a few backups and some other roms from the site. I never flashed voodoo or a kernel either, just tried the modem update to make the di01 update complete. No change. This just suddenly started happening.
Any advice/help would be great!
I'm beginning to think the phone just decided to fritz out or something. Multiple wipes, permission fixes and restores. Only way to keep it close to functional is to keep pulling data.
I'm lost here and with no net and shady 3G, I can't get any good research done.
Sounds like a flaky radio. I'd try to get a warranty replacement, if I were you.

Fascinate poor reception

My verizon fascinate has always had good reception, even with different roms and kernels. I ran into something last week that made me have to factory wipe. Once I get root back and back to SC 2.9 and EC01 modem I've not been getting 3g service on a consistant basis. I can't access internet usually, email, or anything else relying on 3g. I can make calls, text, GPS. I tried different roms, kernels, reflashed EB01 radio, EC01 radio. No difference. What else can I try?
Did you set Airplane mode after flashing SC? I never had a problem but some people reported that they had to go into Airplane mode momentarily to correct reception issues.

i am having the same...
Apologies if this is too basic -- did you already do the OTA *228, option 1, reboot, *228, option 2, reboot sequence? Hope this helps...
I tried Airplane mode and I had already tried *228. Neither attempt helped. I appreciate the suggestions though. I'm beginning to wonder if it's a Verizon problem. If I take it to the Verizon store for troubleshooting will it reflect that it is rooted? I know the warranty is not valid but will they refuse to help since it's rooted? I wonder if it would help to do a factory wipe again and start from scratch?

yes do this, or you can just do option 2 anytime you feel like it
this updates the Tower Roaming list for your area (from what I read)
Sadly, nothing I have ever tried has improved reception on my Fascinate. I hate to say it but I believe it's hardware at fault here due to a weak radio. It at times has gone from full bars 3G to 1x and back and the jumping up and down never stops.
mine has always had good reception but something happened and I have none where the day before I had strong 3g service. its usually not even showing the 1g/3g transfer bars indicator, just one or two signal bars without the 3g indicator. I used to use the email and internet at home before we got wifi to hook-up to but since last Saturday I can't connect at all without the wifi. So its not an issue of never having good service because I did before Saturday.

[Q] Signal bar goes from full to nothing randomly

Ever since I got a replacement phone Ive had this issue- while on the Sprint network my signal will randomly go from full to nothing at all. Yet when I use roam control to go into roaming, the signal always stays at full strength
The other thing I noticed is that when I dial into the 3282 menu, someone elses username is there instead of mine. When I run connectbot and use getprop, no MSL # is there either
Anyone know whats going on with the phone and if this can be fixed?
getprop ril.MSL
It is filtered from just getprop.
My signal has always done that.
Updated profile may fix the user name?

Thanks that command did the trick to get the msl- I was able to go in and manually change the username now.
Is there any settings in the data menu to improve the signal? Its almost like its jumping back and forth between a good and bad tower?
Not that I know of. That is what I suspect is the case with me as I have about 3 towers that are surrounding me from various sides and I think it is hopping between them... not sure there is anything to do for it but I haven't really seen any ill effects from it.

The weird thing is it never used to do this before when I first got the phone. When I was in the same areas the signal bar was always full and would never drop. I wonder if its a tower issue or something they changed with an update.
Sometimes when people call me they say it goes straight to voicemail though which worries me
Could be the modem. Some people think el30 is not as good as ei22 or ec05. Maybe try some others.
For calls calls going to vm, that can happen if you are using data in a 1x area. Also can happen if you have accidentally switched on ddtm in call settings.

This is going to be plain and a tad bit retarded but a solution is WiFi, as far 3G and 4G mine has always done this but i can testify that in my house i used to get ****ty service like 0 to 1 bar when i was on EC05 i switched EL30 now to FB15 and say much more improvement more consistent to 3-4 bars.
PRL updates could help if you roam around there. newest as of today is 60685
I've been having this problem too for about two months now. But as you said roaming works fine so I just assume it's a sprint tower issue and force roam whenever I'm on wifi.
I have had this issue for a year or so... started a while after I first rooted.
You can hold my epic in one hand, my wife's epic in the other... her bars stay steady, maybe fluctuate between 2 or 3 bars occasionally... mine randomly and erratically jump from 2 or 3 to nothing, stay there for 30 seconds or so... and jump back up.
While its annoying and distracting, I've never had a problem with dropping calls or losing data. I even took the phone apart to make sure the antenna had not come loose. Problem persisted over several roms and several modem Odin flashes, just won't go away!
Mine does the same, it'll have full bars, drop down to nothing, but my 3g/4g still work fine (off wifi)... i just ignore the signal bars because most of the time my data still works, albeit a tad slow.

Having a few issues with signal dropping out, ROM or Phone?

At the moment I am running CM10 with Franco Kernel. I often take the phone out of my pocket and usually have 1 of 2 issues, either I have no signal at all, I let the phone sit but still it doesn't pick up the network, I go into search and automatically and that immediately kicks the signal up to full strength again.
The other issue is I have signal but no data, Signal might be full but no data, the only way I can get data to come back on is via a reboot which is a bit of a pain in the behind
Has anyone else had these issue?
