Hello,
Can anyone help before I have to reset to factory settings. I am not able to select any settings when in top part of screen while in portrait. For example if I go to:
settings > "wireless and networks"
settings > call settings > "fixed dialing numbers
I am able to do this function in landscape.
Please help.
Possessed screen
Finally... someone else with the same problem as me! I thought I was going crazy - I would select similar items to what you said, and it either wouldn't register, or would think i selected the next item down. My phone also sometimes goes into possessed mode - registering screen touches without me touching it. Finally, with a slight twist of the case, it does the same thing. I got my wife the exact same phone, and it does none of these things.
I'm pretty convinced this is a hardware issue. I would have returned it by now, but I'm traveling and left the box and everything at home. The local AT&T store said that they could exchange it, but without packaging, it would count as my one-time chance to return / upgrade the phone within my 30 days... even though it's defective.
My suggestion... exchange it, if you haven't already. That's what I intend to do.

i've just had my XDA exec replaced because i cracked the screen, and the new one is a bit wonky. whenever i go to the phone window, it also opens up the Connection Settings window as well. it also reopens the CS window whenever i make a call and recieve a call.
any ideas ??
Hi there
I too have an XDA with a cracked screen. Can you, by any chance, tell me how you went about getting the XDA replaced? I have taken it back to the shop where I bought it, but they were not prepared to send it back to be repaired/replaced!
Any help you can give me would be really useful, and sorry this does not answer your original question.
Regards, Sarah-Jane
Go Start/ Settings System Tab then tap the Screen icon In here is a button for "Align Screen" tap this and take care when you press the cross hair targets - this should get the device back on track - Mike
well i restarted it and it doesn't seem to be doin the glitch anymore, but thanx anyways mikealder.
sarah-jane. I actually had mine insured, and so i just made a claim and they replaced it. altho to be honoust i would rather they had just fixed it, i lost all my contacts and settings and files and whatnot.
Hi,
I've just obtained an O2 XDA Exec on ebay that was someone's unwanted upgrade.
Within a few days of getting it, it seemed to be unstable and I decided on the CORPORATE re-INSTALL after reading on forums about bloatware and sluggish performance.
The problem is that it nolonger offers the corporate install on hard reset. I've tried several times and it simply goes through the routine of asking me to select 0 or X to go for the factory defaults or not, I choose appropriately and it then takes me through stuff like calibrating the screen and setting passwords etc. There is no mention of corporate install at all anymore, although I did see it once when I first got it and before I knew there was a pin number to allow the clean install.
To get around this nuisance, I have done a soft reset BEFORE it starts to customise the machine, and as far as I can tell, there is no O2 software installed. I think it runs faster too. After setting up, a screen message says, 'Customisation will begin in three seconds,' and at that point I pressed the reset button. When it restarted, it just came up without visible O2 software.
My question is this, have I managed to create a dodge which allows the corporate install? I'm on T-mobile pay as you go and have set up the 3 g settings manually.
What do you techie wizards think - do I need to do anything else.
PS....
Sorry if this seems like a greenhorn problem, but before I did the reinstall, I thought the thing was hanging up when carried it in my trouser pocket because sometimes it seemed dead and had to have a soft reset. Obviously, this made it useless as a phone. However, I now think it just had the backlight disabled by the on/off button being depressed accidentally for a couple of seconds while I was moving about, and it wasn't dead at all. I've noticed that when it does appear to be hung up with a black screen, if I depress the on / off button for a second or two, the screen comes on again. I wonder if this is possibly why some people complain that it keeps having to be reset? I was well displeased for about five days until I noticed that I could reverse the apparently dead machine by pressing and holding that button. I've replicated the dark screen and the solution repeatedly now by holding in that button.
My device has been working perfectly till suddenly & without any early notice the device has been locked with some kind of locking.
After reset the device goes into the locked status showed in the pictures, no option to do hard reset,
Tried all options, seems like one of the keys is defective and that’s why can’t perform hard reset.
The device is locked and the 90 minutes limit don’t go down, you can’t do anything.
However if there is a incoming call, you see it on the screen and you can answer the call.
Does anyone familiar with this lock screen ? how do i pass it & relase the device? please advise & help me ....
This is the password protection built into all versions of windows CE. (accesed form control panel/personal/security (or something like that, may vary with OS versions). It has options to lock the device after switching it off (going to sleep mode is considered switching off too), or after the device is not used for a given period of time. The whole point of this protection is to prevent unauthorized access to the device, so i think that without the password you're screwed
Did someone play with your phone before that happened? Maybe it was a "joke" by one of your friends? If you never set the password, anyone can enter the password settings applet and enable it. That's why it's always a good idea to set the password, even if you don't plan to use it -it is also required to enter security settings...
So, if you really want to HR, first of all make sure that one of the buttons is really defective - I just checked and you can't turn off the device by holding the power button when it's loched - this might be your problem. So try holding the comm manager and voice command buttons and press reset button on the side (keep the side buttons pressed until you get the "reset to factory defaults" question)
.
If that doesn't work, try checking if the device connects to activesync when it's locked. It shouldn't happen, since it would be a possible security hole, but knowing microsoft...
If it does you might try to flash its ROM (of course you would lose all your data).
And if it does not and one of the buttons really is defective you might have to disassemble the device in order to do a HR (by shorting the switches' contacts with some metal object), but i wouldn't do this if you don't have some experience with electronics, since you might damage the phone if it's not handled properly with case removed. It might be easier to go to a GSM repair shop and have the switch replaced.

Forget all that password bs. Lock your device with this rogram. Unlock by pressing both soft keys at the same time.
This is weird. My company requires that I have a password on my device. So be it. I want to say that when I upgraded to WM6.1 this issue started, but it might have been there before. Not sure. Anyway, here is the scenario:
1) Phone coming back from a soft-reset/battery removal/etc. Doesn't
matter, as it always does this.
2) The outline of the Password screen pops up, I press top left of outlined
area.
3) Enter password the second that the numbers show up and press unlock.
4) If I don't do it fast enough, the device locks up - HARD!
5) To come back from this, I have to do a soft-reset and perform 2 & 3
fast. If I do, the device works fine. In fact, subsequent password
entries will work fine. Only the very first one after a reboot.
Any ideas on this? I did a little searching and didn't find anything specific to this issue. But then again, my searching sometimes isn't perfect! :-D
Thanks in advance! Cheers...
I've seen something like this, though not as bad.
Try turning off absolutely everything on the Today screen to see if that helps.
When I saw it, I think a program was firing up in the background while the password screen was displayed.

Do you possibly have some other type of startup program running in the background? I had something similar (can't recall now exactly what it was) when I was using a Wizard a couple of years ago. It was like the lock interface kept losing the "focus" after a few seconds. Ultimately I hard reset and started from scratch, but the issue never resurfaced.
In the end I chose to stop the policy enforcement from my company's Exchange server altogether. Not necessarily recommending you do the same, as it's surely frowned upon by all pointy haired bosses in IT. But in the event you'd like to experience the Dark Side of the Force... here ya go.
I got my Transformer last night, plugged it in for 8 hours, then started configuration. No dock yet. I discovered I have misplaced my password for my wireless. Set it about 6 years ago. So I will call Belkin this week to see if it can be recovered or if I need to reset. But would prefer not to since it works perfectly with my computer. Thus, I deferred setting up any WiFi while doing initial configuring. When screen first came up, was "normal" as per pictures of same. However, it powered off after several seconds. When I powered on, I saw the visual "Lock" plus the words showing no WiFi connection. The apps were also gone! My day/time setting was correct, but no weather since no WiFi. There were no buttons on the lower screen other than a no bars and a blue light with the words "No Internet connection." I tried 1] changing orientation several times and 2] powering down, waiting a minute, the powering on. Same problem. Even if I can get my wireless password back, or get a new one, how can I gain access to my configuration settings to input same? I just had a thought: I will go to a local coffee place w/Transformer and see if their WiFi connection works. I'll report back on that. Thanks in advance for any responses. I feel pretty stupid about this.
I just came back from Stir Crazy. Coffee was good but I went crazy. I clicked on the padlock icon. For a few seconds the concentric circles expanded and contracted. I assumed the Transformer would pick up the local WiFi signal and take me to the appropriate screen, where I could then enter the password. Wrong! Nothing. Went right back to locked screen presentation with no applications showing. I should note that when I went through the initial configurations, I saw my local "Sid" home network showing, but when I realized I did not have the password for same, I hit "Skip." The Transformer clearly noted that you could enter your password later in the Configuration settings. However, the unfortunate result of doing this is that I can not figure out how to get to my configuration settings at all. I noticed there is another thread here regarding a blank screen, which problem may/may not be resolved by draining the battery and trying once again. One problem I have is that the screen blanks out after around 20 seconds or so. How long will it take for my battery to totally drain? What I might try tomorrow is to run my Transformer directly from a power strip. But I seriously doubt that this will resolve the problem, since I do not have a blank screen issue.
uhh you are unlocking the device when you 'turn it on' by dragging the lock to the ring outside it?
/facepalm

Thank you, Johan!!! Your suggestion worked. I knew it had to be something totally stupid on my part due to my complete lack of familiarity with both a tablet and this type of operating system. I also confess I refused to asked my grandson! Of course, my daughter and her family all use an unnamed competitor's products. But I am bound and determined to get the hang of this Transformer so I can surprise them with it the next time I am over. Thanks again. Now off to a local Barnes and Noble to check out the wireless. OFF TOPIC: Listening to that lovely guitar piece. Set it to repeat. As per other commentators, no left speaker unless I use headphones; then both speakers. Sound quality is apparently fine. No hiss, rumble, snap, crackle or pop.
