I know the iPad will block lots of content, for no reason?
I accidentally discovered this after watching a Vevo video on my laptop but then when I tried searching for the same video on the iPad, it wouldn't even show up in the results.
Don't have my Xoom yet to test out.
Nope the android youtube app for honeycomb and froyo both have Vevo videos. I haven't seen any mobile blocked videos like I used to on my phone six months ago.
I was not aware of blocked content on the iPad, but no, by the looks of the the Xoom has everything youtube normally would.
I may have done something wrong, though I don't know how I could have, but "I Need a Doctor" by Dr. Dre from his VEVO channel would not play/load. Said it could not be loaded on mobile.
I tried this video on the Best Buy demo when I went to look at it. I was trying to think of a HD video I could play to try and see how it displayed. Since I just watched it previously, I knew it had 720p.
Can anyone play it on their xoom?

Vevo has it's own app, they don't show up in the normal android app, I don't think they ever did. Possibly different licensing issues at play here.

The Vevo app works fine on my Xoom..... till i go to play any video
If anyone else has Vevo working on their Xoom, Please let me know.
This may not help. But the VEVO app works on the XOOM. I watched some videos on it yesterday. Just remember to press HQ on each video or it looks like ****.

This is it. Google has some licensing agreements that prevent playback of videos on Mobile phones, but it's not bulletproof.
If you can't find it using the Youtube app, just go to youtube.com in the browser and you can view the video natively there.
With above.
Uploaders can specify wether they want to allow mobile devices to be able to search/view the video, at least with the Youtube app.

Soooper annoying. At least with VEVO app you can view music videos that were previously unavailable.
I recall with the EVO, the YouTube app blocked even more content.
VEVO will crash repeatedly. I had to use spare parts and turn off the Compatibility mode and now vevo works great.

The other day I was going at it with a friend of mine who ones an iPhone 4 (I got Evo 2.2). Youtube app let me down.
When you pause a video the downloading bar also pauses. It makes you think it also paused the download of the video to cache. His iPhone 4 showed the video pause but still downloading. He scored a victory .
After further review I noticed that video does continue downloading to cache while paused but the bar stops displaying the download. After you click the play button again one can see where the download is actually gone to in the bar.
I was wondering if this is only on my Evo of is it a bug of the app. Anyone else has this issue???
weehooherod said:
We all have this, its just the application. I personally think the YouTube application is trash. If you ever try to rewind then the app throws away all the cache of the video and makes you redownload it and the subscriptions feature is confusing and doesn't just show new unwatched videos like it should.
Using YouTube's mobile site is actually better, I hope some work will go into the YouTube app though.
Edit: I'm using CM6 8/24 nightly with the latest 8/17 gApps package.

Yeah the New Youtube app is junk.. I hate not being able to see certain channels by default, the TP2 youtube app was soo much better.
When My friend shows me his IPhone 4 youtube app, I say to him.. is your Optimized for HD? he was like ... umm.. should be..... The picture turned out amazing on my evo.. he was still trying to do HD...
Videos don't look as good thru the browser. Blame it on flash. The app displays the hq videos much better.

Mine never goes through flash when I go to the site. I hit the HQ button and it uses some streaming video player to actually play the video, not sure exactly what app, but its really bare bones. I get decent quality.
Yeah the YouTube player sucks. Wonder why there isnt a better YouTube player or more to choose from.

Hey,
Wondering if anyone wants to recommend me a video app for the xoom.
Ideally, play files without converting (i.e. mkvs). also optimized for larger screens.
heard about rockplayer - but apparently you cant get the paid version. dont mind paying for no ads.
in the meantime anything else?
search is your friend; endless posts about this topic in the Apps thread..
I would reccomend Rock Player. It isnt in the market so you will have to go to their site to get it. It is free and will play pretty much any video file there is.

moboplayer
I also second Moboplayer -- it's been able to smoothly play videos rockplayer couldn't handle
I gave this a try and it does play things the stock player cannot. Although it still cannot play high profile 720p files properly, still, a very good player so far.
Yeah, It still fails on 720P high prof MKVs -- it's a bummer. But it handles AVI's better than rock player(though it chokes on 5 channel audio - 6channel is fine)
Moboplayer plays my avi, xivd perfectly but has issues with audio from MKV's. Sadly, I have to install multiple video players to play my videos. I have over 5TB worth of MKV's. I'm going to have to re-encode, if I ever want to play them on my Xoom on one video player.
Act 1 video
+1 for mobo
Vital player works great

Any high profile 720p mkv file does not play with moboplayer. More specifically, it will try to play but without sound and severe stutter.
After trying numerous video apps, the best one I found is PlayOn. Early on I had issues with some video files but after updating to the latest server software, I was able to play all my video files (avi, xivd & mkv's) perfectly. PlayOn player is free but you have to pay for the server software.
I'm willing to pay if it plays all my video files w/o conversion but I found it best to convert it to the Xoom screen size & shrink down my 8GBs+ 1080p MKV's to 2GB+ for when I'm traveling or watching while eating lunch at work. I use DVD Catalyst to convert.
so i just did a pretty badass lagtest of the S2, pulled up 20 tabs, and played a video on all 20 tabs. not even the slightest hiccup, pinchzooming as smooth as a picture, no lag whatso ever, as smooth as going to google.com
had some stuff running in the background too, i didnt set up for this video at all.. original out of box stock rom.. totally unstoppable!
check out the video by yours truely~
Use the movie code from the YouTube URL in your browser. For example, for: http://youtube.com/watch?v=iox1hzW_ODE use: [youtube]iox1hzW_ODE[/youtube_] -- without the _
EDIT: Hahahha, funny test!

I would not say that at all. It still cant play bbc HD, or bbc standard def flash without skipping.
Not impressed.

To be fair that's probably more to do with BBC's shoddy application than it is flash or the phone. How else do you explain that other flash streaming works perfectly?

I know what you mean. The beeb uses some bull**** which meant that the iplayer was not available to us Linux users for a long time even though we have flash capable browsers that played everything else.
Has anyone tried watching a 1080p flash video from the browser? Was it smooth or choppy?
Smooth as butter. I watched a ton of 1080p videos off YouTube and megavideo.

i wanna make a post or something where its just a whole page of embedded videos, so i dont have to do tabs, anyone got a forum they dont mind spamming with videos? ill make a cool video out of it!
That's because the ****heads at the BBC knows they'll be getting money from us every year regardless of the **** they produce. The TV licensing scheme is pure bull****, they should work for their keep like every other station.
@Killer Bee "Has anyone tried watching a 1080p flash video from the browser? Was it smooth or choppy?"
Very VERY SMOOTH. This was one of the first things I did when I got my first look at CPW.

Hi guys
I had a xoom but sold it (long story). Seeing that 3.1 seems to fix so many of the issue i'm considering jumping back but would have a short question.
Does viewing / streaming flash movies in 720 now work or is it still extremely choppy? I do not mean in the youtube app, but in the browser from sites such as e.g. project free tv online. This (and the frequent fcs in the browser and market) was the main reason i got rid of my xoom, because i would like to use it (also) to stream tv shows while exercising on the indoor bike :-b
Otherwise great device!
Thanks, and happy xooming

Sry, I have no idea about flash playback.
Pirated high profile video will still be just as choppy on any tegra 2 device.

forgive my naivity, but what do you mean with pirated? i did not know that projct free tv is illegal (seriously).
then let's talk about other sites, such as e.g. ted.com or the media libraries of our official tv channels (sf.tv, ard.de, 3sat.de etc.), they all were not watchable at all, so choppy :-(

I was being tounge-in-cheek as I don't care if its pirated... but most people complain about 720p videos not working when they have torrented it as most pirated TV shows and movies use high profile.
High profile playback is a hardware issue. Overall flash video is much better.

Video seems to work OK. Flash playback is pretty good. Movies on the other hand are hit or miss. 720p seems to need an overclock to play nice on my xoom.

I've yet to receive the 3.1 update, still on 3.0.1, but I can assure you 720p videos work just fine, you just have to play nice with your encodes.
I'm on 3.1, I was able to watch some 720p videos on you tube in the browser. Depending on the amount of motion or what have you they sometimes lagged out but generally it was fine. I watched the "big buck" demo and it was pretty smooth.
As the title states, do we have a way to get hardware acceleration on adobe flash. I hate staring at terrible framerates on HD YouTube via their website and stuttering along on other video streaming sites. This is a dual core device, my phone shouldn't be outperforming it.
agreed, I thought 3.1 honeycomb was supposed to include support for hardware accelerated flash. Sadly any flash video 720p or higher runs real slow on 3.1. Including amazon video on demand and YouTube....

Youtube works fine on my device. Tested with Dark Knight trailer on official youtube app.
Youtube performance
Works great on my a500 using honeycomb Youtube app - works just as well via stock browser on the web site.
What browser are you using to try to play video? Does HD video play in the native youtube app but not in your browser?
i think youtube app plays html5 ,not flash video
We are talking about flash 720p in browser not YouTube app....

So, I'm not the only stupid guy who's having that ridicolous streaming video quality!
I was asking in the primee rom thread but everybody had ignored me, same thing in the acertabletforum.com thread, and in the facebook page to support the unlocked bootloader (where I was teased as an idiot).
Youtube has some pixellated video, both in the dedicated app and in the website.
Same issue for all other kind of streamed video.
What we have to wait? Is that a Tegra2 issue? My Galaxy S and my Iphone 4 have not this ridicolous video quality...So, who's the guilty? -.-
Google promised hardware acceleration with the 3.1 update...but it seems something gone wrong.

Maybe you're forgotting this...I was talking about every kind of streamed video, not only a flashplayer based video.
And, you'll know for sure, some Cydia tweaks and Puffin browser, let see flash video in an iOS device.
i just figured out if you use a rom with an updated kernel to 2.6.36.4....the last 4 being the key flash hardware acceleration works great. At least on 720p.
