i just got off with phone with some csr that i could barely understand and i found out why my bill went up slightly a few months back.
we all know that all smart phones are blessed with the premium data now, but this should not be for those of us already in a contract before this little bonus charge came to life.
well, they decided to upgrade one of my lines that wasn't already using premium data with our telling me.
when i was able to extact this new found fee from our "converstation", the csr arugued that all smart phones are required to have this new fee. when i argured to her that i was in a contract and this was not right, she said that our second line wouldnt be able to use premium data, when i asked what that meant she said the second line wouldnt be able to use 4g, and i said well thats good becasue:
A. i have never have even met one person that has used this and there is no talk of it being in my area anytime soon and
B. my second line is tied to a phone that couldnt use 4g anyways.
1 so not only did sprint magicaly start billing me for this
but they also
2 argued that this is the way it is, and i have no say in the matter
3 and when i argued that i have a contract that they are breaching
4 they argued that i would miss out on something (aka switch their tactics from brute force to attempt to sell something i dont want and cant use)
5 that i couldnt use anyways.
i am very disappointed in sprint for such behavior. i absolutely hate talking to sprint about anything, is there a way to request speaking to an American when calling the csr's?
This is the way class action law suites are born and we all loose when this happens.
in the end the csr said she removed the "features" and they wont show up on my bill again. i wont be holding my breath.
people make mistakes but this seems intentional and instead of owning up to it they insulted my intelligence and argued with me and then try to sell it to me, but eventually realized that i wasn't going to budge.
sprint, im going spread this word of this one buddy...
If you're bill went up a few months back why didn't you go online and check what was added? The fee can not be added unless you switch phones so I doubt that was the root cause of your bill going up, you probably had a third-party bill you for short codes or something of that nature. Does your line say "premium data $10" on your bill? If it doesn't then that's not the reason your bill went up. Even if you are in contract, if you switch to another smart phone you are consenting to the new charge, so that argument is out the window.
If your other phone is a 3G phone you are SOL. Sprint charges the same amount for 3G phones as they do for 4G phones.
The $10 data premium has been extended too all Smartphones, regardless of 4g capabilities. The only way you will get charged for this is if you change phones for repair, switch phones to another, or get a replacement and change phones during the process. It's downright shady that they tried to charge this and change your contract without your consent, and I would have been upset also. But if you made changes to your account before hand and then the changes went into effect, then you must have done one of the things listed above.

Taking phones for repairs and replacements will not charge you the $10
is my little story too crazy to be believable for you?
how could you possibly make such assumptions about my credibility?
are you the csr i just talked too?
i would post screen shots of my bill showing you what i say to be true, but i dont feel like putting that much work into it.
i would be surprised if i am the only one who gets these charges
why didnt i see this charge when they first stared this crap?
well i forgot to pay my bill and i was 2 months behind and i did the math and it didn't add up. so i did see the charges, only it was when i actual looked at my bill, what does this have to do with anything? is someone trying to pointlessly poke holes into my story? lol

Were you ever suspended for non-payment?
I don't doubt this story.
I know that when I started with Sprint a while back I had a spending limit. Fine, no biggie, my monthly bill was way under the limit anyways.
Well, last year they suddenly started charging me $5.00 a month for the "Spending Limit Program Fee." I questioned them adding this charge after I was in a contract, and I was told that Sprint had some kind of right to do this because of some clause in the contract. They said they would stop charing me for it if I enrolled in automatic payments so I did.
Also, two years ago I moved from Missouri to Florida. I checked my bill one day and I saw I was being charged Missouri surcharges. I called and they said they would update the information and I thought that was that. Well a few months went by and I noticed my bill was a bit higher. So I finally checked it out and sure enough they were now charging me Missouri AND Florida surcharges! For 5 months! (Fortunately they credited back that amount).
I guess my point is these mistakes happen, and all companies tend to err on the side of overcharging. Which makes me sad.

Yes, the ASL fee of $4.99 was added last year in January, you had 3 months to cancel if you didn't agree to it.
nope, but i can be an iditiot about things at times, especialy when it comes to watching the calendar, so while i have been late with my bill, and often at that, my service has not been interupted for any reason.

Hmm... in this case then it's simply an error. Though, if you ever did switch phones it would be added. If your line was upgraded without your permission, did you receive a new phone?

So I was told. I'm not bashing Sprint here, just saying its feasible for a charge to show up unexpectedly without notification, and its possible to be charged incorrectly.

You should stop paying them
**** your not the only one who had sprint be rude to them they told me there not goin to do nothing to keep me as a customer after leaving m on hold for 4 hours to try and fix my old phone **** SPRINT! by the way to maybe help fix your problem go to geekforme.com and try downloading latest radio assuming your rooted. i found fresh toast 2.1 to be a good rom just a bit of bugs but with the radio i have better signal
Sorry, double post
Yeah, I've tried all of the radios. I just get no service in my house in the desert. I even confirmed that the area was covered before I signed up. Then they sent me an airrave that never works and everytime they say it's set up, and it isn't, they lose all record of me and it's "but, sir, you don't even have an airrave on your account" and "did you try calling airrave support?" and all sorts of other snippy, rude, arrogant comments that give Sprint absolutely no responsibility in the matter.
These are horrible, horrible people and I am thinking of having my lawyer explain to them what a breach of contract is.....
If they don't have an airrave on your account there might be an issue, but they did tell my parents that the airrave needs to be in a window so that it can get GPS signal(don't know why, but seems to make a difference). I think it may have something to do with supporting the 911 system.
Yeah, it's in the window. It literally takes them 2 or 3 days to troubleshoot it each time, only for them to lose all sight of me in the system.
Then, when I tell them I am sick of spending hours on hold and having all of my previous notes lost only to start over again and sit on hold, their answer is "sir, I see nothing about an airrave in your notes"
I hate these people.
I don't know man but that Droid Incredible is looking kinda good, and with Verizon's coverage in rural areas it might be worth checking out

Oh, I'd be all over it in a heartbeat.... but Sprint doesn't see any reason to let me out of my contract.
Hopefully, my lawyer can convince them otherwise....
I don't know if the will help but when u call and the moron answers tell them to transfer u to customer retention dept. They will usually kiss ur ass. Also I've found when u get a rude csr that hanging up and calling back usually will get u to a nicer person. Every company has a douche who hates their job. Just gotta weed through the tards till u find one that's competent and wants to actually help
Sounds like you are getting the ****iest of people when you call, which sucks, but I can assure you that the rudeness is subjective, we aren't trained that way.
For your case, the best option is to talk to Airave support directly, and, is your Airave on a seperate account from your primary? If so, we would still be able to pull it up based on the information located on the Airave itself.
With the lawyer, do you a copy of the contract? (I would naturally assume you do)

Please read THIS POST, it may help
I remember calling Sprint and telling them I have low signal as they told me I am in a green area. Funny thing is not even a couple seconds later my phone dropped. They made me pay $100 for the Airave but I get free service. The airave is still intermittent. I will still drop calls next to it.

You don't need a crook lawyer. Call the FCC or sprint corp to get out of the contract.
Oh, regardless of what you try and do, Sprint will still try to stick you with a fee for closing an account. I had an employee line for 3 years after I life radio shack and they send me a text one day saying Either sign a 2 year contract at XX price, or call can get the line disconnected by XX Date, because you are no longer eligible for the plan. SO I call and cancel and after 8 hours of fighting with them, they still tried sticking me with an $80 ETF. So, I proceeded to get a hold of my rep where I used to work over 3 years ago, and he said hey I will call you back in 5 minutes. He calls back, Says You're set to go, you can go pay your bill now. Fee was removed.
Recently I opened a line of service and got the number changed to a different area code. I always do checks for upgrades on the phone number(s) I have, and lo and behold, it said I was eligible for an upgrade on 5/1/2010 for the $150 off, and $75 off as of 7/1/2009. So, I keep an eye on it because I planned to get the Evo, which, I have done this before without a problem, and suddenly without my knowledge or consent, my account was modified and the upgrade eligibility removed. I call and talked to the biggest a-hole in all of Sprint yesterday. I was bout ready to get both lines shut off and tell them they can shove their etf's up their rear end, because the way these idiots treat me is no way to keep customers. I'm going to go through my cache and check, but I think I still have a cached page of when the site told me I was eligible, and I think I am going to go to either Radio Shack or Sprint on the 4th and not leave until they give me what their website says I am entitled to.

Just my train of thought:
Unless you have a lawyer on retainer, isn't the price of starting the case more than the $150.00 bucks to get out of contract? Does Sprint pro-rate the termination Fee like Verizon and US Cellular(Subtract 6 dollars a billing cycle)?
If you are thinking that Sprint would pay back legal fees, I doubt it, unless you actually go to court over it all, and its ruled will they pay legal fees, usually they will give you a settlement and you pay your attorney out of that. In this case, the pittence of a settlement over a contract breach($150.00) seems like something not worth the battle.
Given, I am not in your shows and don't know what the have done to get you this pissed off. I can assure everyone that my experience has been sprint is the best most customer satisfaction orriented, best priced carrier in the US.
If you do have a lawyer on retainer, what kind of trouble do you get into?
Yeah, I've been dealing with customer retention and they've been rude. Mainly because they don't believe me that I have set up the airrave in the past because it is unfathomable to them that their notes could be wrong.
Told them to cancel me out and I'd just pay the $200. All of a sudden, they care......
......on hold now.
Oh, and my company has lawyers on hand.... they're free to me.
Oh, they're offering me all sorts of **** now....

Unless the line of service you opened was opened in 2008, your eligibility would have changed when you added the new line of service. Your eligibility is usually in 12 and 22 month increments. So to be eligible on 7/1/2009, you would have had to make the change 7/2008. If a change was made after that, it would move the date ahead accordingly.

This is insane, ridiculous unbelievable.. Good luck to Stacey and her Family...
what she probably failed to realize is that the evo background syncs a whole lot. so while she may have only been on facebook for a couple of minutes, htc sense was on it all day. plus sense weather was collecting data for location and weather etc etc..
While I feel sympathy for how outrageous the bill is, she should have known international data roaming is $$$
When I was in Cancun last month, I was in airplane mode the entire time. What an idiot!
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i want to feel sorry for her but her numbers dont eve match up she listed both 600 mb and 4.7 gb as how much data she used. 5 mintues of face book pushing emails background data from weather etc wont run either of those ina week. now if she was using qik or something to broadcast her vacation to the world for a few hours maybe.
while its easy to feel sorry for her and blame sprint the question is who is on the account? it sounds like it was a shared plan and that her parents had enabled international roaming and were told the charges when they did however they didnt tell their daughter.
with the discrepency in the amount of data used in her story, the fact she said she wasnt internationally set up but still thought to get on facebook and the fact sprint has confirmed the phone esn wasnt duplicated etc i tend to think she is giving a partial story, and is upset as anyone would be with the bill.
My guess she knew she was going to get charged but didnt realize exactly how much it would cost her and used it anyway. Then came home to a big bill and so downplays her usage to try to get it reduced and is upset as anyone would be with the extreme charges.
thats at least what i would bet the case is.
facebook sync loop for the loss!
Sorry, seems iffy to me. Only using FB 5 times a day and text messages? There is no way that is even close to that sort of data usage.
Screenshots or it didn't happen.
I don't really curse much but; That is a REALLY STUPID *****. I am sorry to say. After reading what happened from the orignal thread starter and the other posters in the sprint user forum, she is at fault because like a majority of consumers, she doesn't read the documents provided to her and expects the company to clean up the mess she started and made.
I really hate when consumers get away with things like this. They are purposely clueless too take advantage of companies. I am no company lobbyist, but I guess I should be dumb too if it will get me a freebie.

It's her fault and sprints. Sprint should have shut off service after $1k or 2k of charges and got verbal confirmation before restoring service. If they can protect themselves from users who abuse their service with large data usages then why not with excessive charges.

Same here, went on a cruise to the Bahamas and left the phone turned off. My buddy had his on airplane mode and just used it for taking pics. Whether or not the rates are correct, its pretty stupid to use the phone for anything other than emergencies when you're in another country. Even with international calling, I don't think that applies to data. I could be wrong though. Seriously, you couldn't stay off Facebook for a frickin week?!?

Because in one instance they would be limiting access to their equipment from heavy users who were previously promised "unlimited" service (if this was indeed the case with Sprint); but in the other instance they have no incentive to do so - they are simply counting money.
I agree, however, that it would be ethical to:
1. Put an end to ridiculous international roaming charges somehow
2. Provide adequate warning to customers where #1 is not possible (due to politics, etc.); if one can get a free text message when the monthly bill is due, there's no reason something like that can't be set up for roaming:
"Hey customer, as a courtesy notice, as of mm/dd/yyyy you have accumulated $X in roaming charges. You can turn off your phone, or keep using it according to your roaming agreement - link here."
where X can be 300, 500, 1000, etc. or several of the above.
Stupid.

I'm a girl btw, and I was told by the Sprint collections department that you do not have to pay it off in full the next billing cycle, that there is no time limit as long as they see you are paying on it, so we will see.
EDIT TO ADD: I was told that I had no limit on my account, not sure if that has anything to do with it. I know Sprint implements "spending limits" to some customers and some have no limit, so not sure if this has anything to do with it.
Too bad they don't have a 3/4G version available. Would love to add it to my unlimited plan.

That's the most insane thing I've heard in a while. I've never heard of anyone doing this. So you're going to float your bill and pay fees and other penalties until you can afford to pay it off? If you have even a slightly good credit rating you could get a $600 credit card with 0% for a year probably...
i added a couple of mobile phones several years ago to my account--not at the same time but one was one year and then a year later or so..
anyway, i paid the mobile handset off across 2 billing cycles at least (phone was like 600 ish then) and had no fees or extra costs.
the main thing was paying your wireless bill on time.
home girl's case may be solid and unique to her case so i am inclined to believe her based on my past experience.
you must not have any limits or ASL on your account and be in good standing with no past due balance. im sure you may know this...
From what I was told purchasing "equipment" doesn't incur fees, only your service bill does. I will still pay my service bill on time but the equipment I charged will be paid off in payments. After searching online I too am seeing conflicting information regarding this, so now I'm slightly leary. Worst case scenario I will be sending it back if what I was told was false.
Yeah I've been with Sprint for like 7 years since I was in high school. I don't have a spending limit on my account and pay my bill in full every month and never had one late payment. I don't like to bill to my account but to each is own.
I prefer to just pay it in full just be to be on safe side of things. Good luck with your purchase though but just make sure you call to verify the payment plan options because it's harder to get things fixed when they are screwed up.
I'm only saying to call because every time I call Sprint I get conflicting information and nobody seems to know what they are doing. Also if you want to check your Sprint Credit Worthiness log into your Sprint account then delete the address bar and replace it with this:
javascript:function getYesNo(s){if(s=='Y') {return 'Yes';}else{return 'No';}};alert("Your Hidden Stats:\n\nSprint Financial Value: "+loyaltyAccVal+" of 10 (higher is better)\nCredit Class: "+creditClass+"\nAccount Spending Limit: "+getYesNo(aslFlag)+"\nHotlined Account: "+getYesNo(hotlineFlag));
and hit enter. A box will pop up and that will show you. I believe it would be correlated to the results if they will allow you to bill to your account.
Mines shows:
Sprint Financial Value: 7 out of 10
Credit Class: G1
Account Spending Limit: No
Hotlined: No
Well I've gotten conflicting info when calling. When I speak to sales they have no idea and put me on hold to find out and then tell me it has to be paid in full after speaking with the "collections department", when I spoke to someone in billing I was told that it doesn't have to be paid in full and many customers have "made payments" on purchases billed to their account. I would love to pay for it in full but I can't shell out $600 at once so that's why this option appealed to me, if it turns out that's not the case as I stated before I will give them hell and worst case scenario return the equipment.
Yeah just looking out for you. I always call multiple times and ask for a manager because there are a bunch of nifnards working for Sprint.

LOL isn't that the truth! Its going to really piss me off if that's not how it works for my account as I was really looking forward to getting the Xoom and accessories I ordered. I hate calling there because I can never get a straight answer about anything, and the order is already out for delivery so too late to cancel if that's true, I will truly give them hell if I was given false information.
there is no pay plan. they give you about 2 bill cycles which is plenty. if you need more time, make sure you are showing good faith--by paying your wireless bill and also paid a good portion of yourequipment--this gives you good favor with the account rep and they may be more inclined to help.
we all want to pay our balances off at once--however sprint extends this as a courtesy to their good customers. if you know you can afford the device you can maximize your purchasing power in a short time period.
I did call accounting services again to confirm my initial answer towards this. I was told there is no official "payment plan" per say, however they do not "require" you to pay the equipment off the following billing cycle. He did mention as long as you are paying your cell bill and making payments towards the balance there should be no problems, however he recommended that its paid off in a "timely manner". So yep, basically what the poster above me said. We shall see...
Well I got my bill for February and what do ya know another increase in my bill. I looked over it carefully and couldn't find where the extra $ was coming from. Of course I called the "best customer support company" to see what the deal was. I was informed that due to "no reason" my "shared" plan is now split in to 2 different lines. 1st- $110 2nd- $19.99. For the last year is was $129.99 (shared). I went round and round with 2 different reps attempting to get an explanation of why they split the lines when you can not have a shared plan with only 1 line ($79.99). They basically told me how sorry they were and to pay up or leave. So now not only am I paying an extra $20 a month (2 epics) for "4G" which my area does not have but extra $ because they changed the math equation. I am sick of getting nickel-ed and dime-ed from Sprint.
I also posted on there facebook and getting quite a bit of comments from other people who are mad about the change. I guess I could leave without paying the ETF......
Old news. They will let you out of your contract with no etf due to the change in the contract. Discounts are material and contractual, regardless of what a rep tells you. Ask for a supervisor or call account services about it. If you choose not to cancel, they will issue you a one time credit for one year worth of the difference. They credited me with 80 dollars to cove the 6.75 per month difference.
If you want the number I called, let me know. Ill have to walk all the way upstairs to get it.

no hold time. a real person answers.
this number has solved more problems for me than you could believe.
i even called them before i even set up my last 2 lines and told them the discount on new hardware wasnt enough to keep me and that if they would give me free phones on both new lines, i wouldnt be forced to switch to vzw. i went to the shack that day and got 2 evo3ds for 99.99 each and got a 200 dollar service credit from retentions on my next bill for adding 2 new lines.
uh, $129.99 = $110+$19.99.
the only thing that changed was how the discount was applied. Instead of it being applied to the whole 129.99, now it's only on the 110.
It increased my family bill a whole 4 dollars, or about a dollar per phone.
Still better than any other wireless carrier bill.

Yeah I know its only $6 but its the nickel and dime-ing aspect....$6 here $2 service charge increase there....on and on....More money for the SAME service!
Haven't looked at my Feb bill, but mine the shared plan covered the first two lines and each additional was 20 bucks. So now they split out the second line separately as well?
i just hate that they would rather issue a bunch of credits, or cancel contract than just grandfather these things in.
no one would ***** if they said "all new customers from here on out, and for those of you who already have this, it goes till the end of the contract".
i know people who would leave over sometnig like this, but if sprint changed it in at contract renewal time, the same people would be like, oh, oh well, still cheaper than verizon.

correct. first line is billed at 110.00 and all additional lines including the second one is 19.99.
Wow. People are so whiny. It's still a hell of a lot cheaper than Verizon or AT&T and still unlimited data (which continues to increase usage on their network constantly, thanks to rooted users tethering constantly and not paying an extra dime for it, and rooted users constantly bricking their phones and having to get replacements that Sprint can't prove was user caused, which they have to pay for, and still try to keep unlimited data, and still try to cover cost of upgrading their network, and upgrading phone OS's cause people are whiny, and launch new LTE since Wimax wasn't good enough, and a plephora of other things). So they raised your bill in an attempt to cover costs AND keep their service unlimited AND offered you the choice to cancel with no fee. Stfu, seriously.

While his delivery may have been blunt, he's absolutely right. I was glad when they made that svc fee change a few months ago - it gave me the ability to cancel my contract and go to another provider that has respectable data speeds and actually has coverage in my house and place of business. If you don't like the new fee schedule, take them up on their cancellation offer and move on.
I also see your point, it sucks to be nickled and dimed to death, but all the carriers do it. Sprint is still the cheapest nationwide carrier in most scenarios.

Maybe I wasn't all sweet and cuddly about it, but providing valid info isn't trolling. If anything "your" trolling Sprint. It's ridiculous to think it's Sprint's responsibility to absorb all cost of what they "try" to do for their customers, and additionally absorb all cost of customers who rip them off on a daily basis. They are doing their best and being reasonably fair about it.

I get frustrated with the incremental increases as well. But then I just compare my bill to ATT and VZW, and I'm a long way from those types of prices. I've had my FS1500 plan with 4 smartphones for a long time. When you add in all the stuff that's included at no extra charge from Sprint, I'm still saving over $1500 a year.
Frustrated: yes. Leaving: not on your life.

Once upon a time the discount applied to the whole bill. Then it didn't apply to the phone ins. Then it only applied to first two lines. Now it applies to only 1 line. Then they put in the phoney 4g charge. Then it turned into a smartphone charge not just 4g. (Most all phones are smartphones according to sprint). All the while the service has degraded substantialy along with the customer service. Sorry..mini rant

Last I checked, Sprint discounts only applied to items over a certain price limit. It's around $40-$50. It's been that way throughout the life of my contract. If you got discounts on your extra lines, which are indeed addon charges, you're lucky.
Andsamp is right. My corporate discount used to apply to the whole bill, now just to the primary. However, I've been on Sprint for 13 years, and have been on many different plans. The application of the discounts has changed with the plans, and over time.
I also would not be surprised if the application of the discount was different depending what company it was for. They generally work the same, but there may be some differences.

Ok sooo its $6-10 more a month.... Yea it adds up. But eat 1 less fast food meal a month and bam a extra $6-10.
I got that letter in the mail with my bill a while back. Couldn't help but laugh. It's corporate america screwing people over as usual.
Order of financial life: Work> get $$$> spend $$$. Repeat.
If your trying to live beyond your financial means then it's your fault. Suck it up or move on.

I don't think AT&T is going to care either way as long, as they are getting paid for the phone on a monthly basis. My plan with all of this is to turn my Note 7 in for the next note device after it has been supposedly released in February. The way I see it, it will still be on warranty. I hope I'm right.

I've disabled all ota updates from Samsung. This shouldn't affect me.
This will be interesting........
I intended to return mine the last week of the year. I recently had surgery and am laid up until after the 19th. If they kill my phone with me not being able to return it for documented, legitimate medical reasons and with this device/service my sole means of communication for emergency services if needed. What happens if I need help after they kill my phone?

I don't have confidence that the Package disabler will block all updates.
The nightmare continues....
Against doctors orders I went to the AT&T store today where it took 2+ hours to return my phone for a refund. The first person had no clue what to do. Finally the manager got involved. The refund was .5% less because the tax rate was higher at the store where I purchased it. They couldn't cancel my line or my account in the store so I called Customer Care from the store. I then found out that there was a contract on the S2 Gear Watch that I got with the phone as part of a bundle deal. "OK, I'll give you the watch back, accessories are part of the Samsung buy back, right?" I was told I needed the box, and all the original packaging..... "OK, I'll keep the watch and pay the $10 /month for the remaining time." Nope! you now need a data plan with the watch! That will be $40 per month, thank you. Remember, I now do not have a phone with them of any kind. After 3 calls and 30 minutes on hold, being told multiple times different things on the phone and by the store manager I ended up early cancellation on the watch which costs me about $135. I am also being told now the watch can not be unlocked so it can be used on another carrier.
Do not believe the BS that they are covering the accessories.
I thought to make things easier I would do it on the last day of the billing cycle which I thought was today. Later I found out that the verbiage on the web site is confusing and it was really yesterday. Then I find out that ATT does not prorate the last months bill. My monthly bill is normally about $100.
So now I have a $235 bill coming for device I either don't have or can't use (It still is a watch I suppose) and service I can't use all thru no fault of my own because of the Note7 recall.
I will most likely be buying an S8 but you can believe me when I say it will not be from ATT.

I didn't use a package disabler program. I hid packages using a shell. I should be fine.
No way in hell i would have left paying early termination. I got my watch with my Note 7 and I've been told several times if I turn my phone in, i can also return the watch with no contract fee. I would escalate the matter cause thats crazy

I didn't pay anything. They refused to take it back since I didn't have the box and are adding the early termination to the final bill, that I have yet to get.
