I know this is an Aria forum, but I have a tablet question. Are there any Aria/Liberty/Gratis/Intruder users in this forum that also use Android tablets? We are considering gifting one and wonder how they perform in terms of reliability. A friend has the Coby one and gets force closes often and AppsLib sucks.
My last Intruder was a Grumman A-6E.
Funny... I was searching on ebay for one of those a minute ago. I believe they operate reliably. But I would deffinitely go with one that runs Froyo, less chances of finding bugs.
I am using my Gtab to send tis, as my Aria Tethers me to a connection here in the mountains of the Poconos. Its ony at EDGE speeds, but it works for now. I love my GTAB. The hardware is impressive, save one item. Its downfall is the LCD screen. It has bad viewing angles in Portrait mode. Other than that, I have since turned my laptop on twice in the last two weeks since I got the Tablet.

I have a GTAB too. The thing is junk out of the box but killer after switching to a different Rom. Look in the G Tablet forum on here and do some research. I like it because I'm already familiar with the Android system and how it works.

This is exactly why I went with the gTab. Plus the cpu makes the gTab a device that will be around for a while longer than most portable devices running Android

What did you guys pay for your G-Tabs? $400? Did you get it locally or from Amazon?
I'm pretty interested in it, but with all the newly-announced tablets at CES, I'm wondering if I should hold off.
I'm going to wait for a suitable htc tablet, like the so called "htc scribe"
I like htc

I did get it locally, but I only paid 319.99. Heh, I was able to negotiate the sears rep at the store down from 400 by telling him I was just going to buy it online and pick it up since I could get it for 380. He then did some numbers thing and viola! It was on m receipt for 320

i would get the Nook Color, but i'd like to have camera and GPS for road trips. would be nice to play around with Google Maps and navigation on a tablet.
I was all set to buy a Nook Color for rooting, then a friend on another forum told me that he had returned his because the edges of the screen were not sensitive to touch at all. That worries me... you had any issues with that anup?
Sorry for the late reply... I don't have problems at all with touchscreen unitl my hands get sweaty (I know it's gross). When that happens the screen becomes unresponsive and I have to lock and unlock the screen. Then it's all better!
I ended up getting a Nook color yesterday. Had it rooted within 30 minutes. I'm using Zeam as my launcher and I really like it. This Nook has to be the best Android tab for the money if you ask me.

With the stupid att data limit, i have come close to going over with my tablet.
I am glad you got the nook color... I think that for 250$ it is the most sensable choice. Let me know how you like it!

My birthday was this friday and my dad asked me what i wanted. I did want a dog but i guess it was completley out of the question. So i said i wanted a tab. So wala. Im a full time student in college and im a junior. When i first started to play with the tab, i quickly realized it was kinda like a super sized samsung vibrant for shrek. I do like it though. I dont have data and this is a straight up wifi device. So far ive just been video chatting with it. What else can i really use this for? Also should i root it? Sorry if this has been asked before

I too am a college student,
I use my tablet almost daily, I did root, mainly to change the WPA file to be able to connect to ADHOC wireless signas, primarily from my phone (HTC Touch Pro2)
Things i do:
1. Watch Videos (movies or youtube)
2. Read PDF's and DOC; i use DROP BOX which allows me to sync 2 gigs of data between my MAC and PC, and allows me to browse that content from my tab, its pretty neat, it doesnt 'sync' the tab, it downloads files as you open them.
3. I installed this cool GPS app called NAVIGON, check around on forum, pretty interesting,
4. Email and web surfing when too lazy to sit at the desk!
If you want more questions, ask, if you want to set up Drop Box, let me know i'll give you my link, that way i'll get some POINTS
Enjoy!
Well, the Galaxy S appears to just have gotten set up for an update to Froyo, so we may not be without an official update at some point.
Just keep checking back to see what people are able to come up with on here. It is very well-built, and just has stock software issues. Battery = pretty great. Data plans on T-Mobile ... awful.
But yeah, we will see.
Enjoy.

Check out Gun Bros. It's free in the Marketplace. My Tab is used with Wi-Fi only as well. I use mine for email, reading, posting on XDA. I have a Slingbox at home. When we travel my son uses the Slingbox app on the Tab, which I tether to my Nexus One. It works FLAWLESSLY!
Get a GV account+SIPDroid then you will be able to make & receive call! Quality is sometimes somewhat not on par with regular cell phone tho.
I've been using Pulse and Google Voice the most, sometimes hourly. Pandora, Kindle, Email, and Miren Browser I use daily. Cache Cleaner NG for maintenance. My latest game addiction is Speedx 3D Free.
i use mine for porn, its like a portable jerking device
ur a funny guy..
check out gun bros definately and also get a game called air attack hd.
Best game on android imo.
Sure you will love your tab
I was on a US Airways flight that had GoGo in-flight WiFi and after seeing the price I figured it was not that important to pay that much just to surf. So I was fidgeting and opened Google maps and it downloaded the maps so I went a bit further and searched the maps and it came up with a bunch of stuff so I was thinking that it must be using some hole in their security or something so I kept fidgeting and got to the market and was able to load up so I tried to download an app and sure enough there it was on the progress bar just downloading away! I didn't go much further cuz I had cured my boredom.
Pretty cool I just figured I'd share.

so i've had the lapdock for a while, great accessory for the atrix.
i've recently been wanting to get a tablet. so i figure if i get the tablet, then i really wouldn't have any use for the lapdock. i've been looking into getting a nook color or something that simple. i wouldn't use the tablet for much, just like i currently don't use the lapdock for much. just internet browsing, videos, and typing up document on occasion.
so, i ask you all, would you prefer a tablet... or the lapdock for our phones?
thanks, all.
Very good question. I guess it would depend on the person and situations they would need either device for. I ended up getting a tablet (ipad2). Is the lap dock smooth and lag free? Never used one.

may I ask about your specific usage that made you get a tablet instead? or what made you get a tablet?
I have a Lapdock and a blackberry Playbook and both are awesome, but I use the Playbook more at home since it's easier to access than the Lapdock. But I use the Lapdock when I am not at home for doing work. So I personally use both. I actually wish I could use the Lapdock more. Lol

I'm not going to have the Atrix for as long as I would have the iPad. Me and my wife use it everyday. Everything we would do on the laptop we do on the ipad, minus word documents and typing because its just silly typing papers on the iPad. So Netflix, web browsing, catching up on Conan, Amazon, just normal stuff. And depending on the tablet, it would see more software support/ be supported for longer.

Well, I do use my lapdock for "real" work. Various development in mainly C, some assembly, C# and C++.
Most is simply vpn'd back to the office. 80% of my actual work is text based development, and that I do with a terminal ssh'd home.
For the small amount of stuff that requires me to use a windoes system, I can RDE back in. Not great, but not nearly as bad as one might suspect.
Occasionally I actually do local coding. But in this case I am really just editing and using gcc as a syntax checker.
To be honest, the biggest issue I have is the STUPID KEYBOARD LAYOUT (I hope moto is reading). There was plenty of room to have a standard'iish layout.
If one does not expect to do a lot of typing though, I would think a "paddock" would be a good idea for Moto.
to be honest, I've got lapdock and I have a XOOM2 for a test.
Iwont chane my Lapdock to any talbet. why?
after mod I have a fully Ubuntu, so why I have to change? so, if you wanna to get fully useable OS than I recommend to you Lapdock. If you wanna to see how it works, please visit my youtube profile
Lapdock is way too slow for anything.
Maybe after the ICS update it might be worth a look, however I would go for a tablet with a stand such as the archos g9 and a bt keyboard for productivity.
The lapdock is a great piece of hardware that's simply no utilized well enough to be worth it.
I agree completely with alexsupreme. Lapdock is just too slow to be usable. Mine was new from AT&T in December and I bet I've used it all of 2 hours. My tablet on the other hand has many, many hours of use logged since Christmas.
$53 for the lapdock at the time sounded good, but in retrospect that was still more than it's worth.

Ouch! That's like an icey-hot cold pack: so cold, and yet it burns.
I bought an iconia a500, and it has almost completely displaced my laptop. Only serious typing, graphics editing are still done on my laptop (and the pr0ns work better when I don't have to hold the screen up). I was looking at getting a lapdock next time they were on sale, but your scathing analysis is probably correct.
Actually, the new webtop 3.0 shows quite a bit of promise.
Sure it's not touch operational but you get a smooth speedy interface and access to tablet apps and browser.
The lapdock might actually be useful, especially with the variety of office apps and nice tablet games and emulators that might just be more playable with a keyboard and a mouse
If so what are you using it for? Phone or other. Need ideas not going to throw it out due to its beautiful history.

I'm afraid I'm also not using mine for anything, sitting a draw, but like you I'm definitely gonna keep onto it.
Alarm clock? You could get a 1.0 ROM or something and delete almost everything but the clock (and probably need a launcher for it).
Doorstop? It's pretty tough and chunky, and the chin might help.
A remote/Bluetooth keyboard for some other device, e.g. tablet. Idk how this would work, I've looked into it before but can't find answers.
Def sounds like a good idea for a remote. Maybe for you tube app on my TV or something other. Maybe give it to my daughter and tell her to have a ball.
Funny, I just found one of these phones at a garage sale today..... Perhaps some resource-unintensive Linux distro could be ported to it and it could be used as a small Linux box.
Still using mine as a WiFi hotspot. Since I have a free data only SIM with a volume monthly quota of 30GB
I'm using mine as a sacrificial phone when I'm kayaking. It's perfectly capable of calls, SMS, and MP3s still. The touchscreen works through a transparent drybag. I can be confident that if I should wind up in the water and the drybag should fail, it's no great loss.
Mine is with my 2 year old daughter. She play games on it ,really there is no other use.

I want to use my G1 as a screen keyboard and mouse for my raspberry pi. It would be great if I could make it usb plug and play so I could just plug it into any pi and be off.
I'm using my old mytouch 4g as an IP camera. The g1's camera isn't as good but that's another idea.
update google g1 android 1.6 to 2.2 or latest
Hi,
i have rooted my tmobile android 1.6 to 1.0 and want to update it to 2.0 or later 2.2(froyo)

Mine is sitting in a backpack full of electronics. The camera is broken, though. It doesn't matter; It's running a ICS ROM which doesn't have camera working, anyways.
I lend it to my friend, he still uses it as a primary device !!! he was never interested in smartphones, so he is very satisfied with that phone
I Love G1
Mine, I'm still using it as my primary phone, I really love it.
I just picked up a package deal consisting of an HTC Radar 4G, a MyTouch 3G and this G1.
I have unlocked all of them (using a Lycamobile Sim). Unless I really fall for the Radar, I will probably sell it (worth more than what I paid for all 3) and keep the Dream alive :good:.
But first, need to get it up to Froyo. It will do what I need. It's the model T of Androids.
The MyTouch had a bad sim card holder, so I needed to do some solder work and hack the holder so that the card just falls in from the outside rather than slides in. The back holds it fine, but it probably not very salable (though the outside is in perfect shape)
Update-
Got the G1 rooted and running on Cyanogenmod 6. It was a struggle to find coherent , relevant, current (not really current, but currently working) info on how to work this ancient piece. It has given me a taste for it , anyway and I hope to try another ROM.
Frankly, I am just rambling to get my post count to 10 so I can ask a question in the modding forum....
It was sitting in a laundry hamper that I was using to store a bunch of old CDs and other stuff I don't use on a daily basis. It so happens that the hamper fell from the top of my bedroom closet and now I'm thinking of ways to use this thing, but the first thing that came to mind was to use it as a distraction for the kids. Now that I think about it, it could be used as a remote with keyboard and all. It's running CM6, but I'd like to know if there is a ROM that is very minimal. My phone has no ability to make calls anyway, but everything else works. Any ideas?
