My gmail has stopped opening attachments generated by office suite. When I click the attachment it kind like tries to open it but then comes back to the email.
Anyone else having this issue?

Did you remove quickoffice app? It's a stock app that some consider bloatware but opens MS office docs (Some roms remove it or move it to /data/app)
No, I still have it. Pdf and pictures work, just the office docs.

pdf and pictures open in different apps than office docs. It's friendly a quick office issue. Find it in settings/applications and clear data

Thanks, I tried but still nothing. It flashes for a second and then goes back to the email.
One way around it I figured was opening gmail in my browser and downloading the attachment that way. Not the most efficient but gets it done.
Thanks again.

Silly question, but have you tried restarting the phone since you first saw this problem manifest itself?
Nu
Just to be sure, I just cleared the data and rebooted my phone. Still the same issue, flashes a blank screen for a second and then back to the email view.

What if you use something like "download all files" or "download crutch" to grab it from the email and save it, then open it up with your desired program? Yeah it is an extra step but it might work. Never tried it myself.
Are these apps in the market? I will give it a shot.

I have noticed this issue as well but it was only for .rtf files, I am not sure what files you are trying to open but the Gmail app does not seem to like those. I typically open up .xls/x in HTML format.

hi all,
I can't seem to be able to use this app properly, especially for my hotmail... and we can't remove accounts, can we? HAHA.
it's like my hotmail reads 143/258, but i can't see the 143 new emails!
i keep getting stuck at end of july. I tried deleting some emails to see if it is a space limitation problem, but to no avail...
any idea anyone? or anyone has a better windows live hotmail app?
Bump.. And I can't view my junk folder from this app.

Sorry but I don't seem To see that folder settings anywhere? I only see account settings.

Watch out Gmail 2.3.5 update seems to break widgets and launchers that show unread Gmail. Now I wish I had backed up my GSII Gmail with TB...
Yeah that kind of sucks. Will just have to wait fire the launchers to provide us with an update!

You can do a Google search for Gmail 2.3.4.1 and install that. Fixed my problem.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
or you can just go back to market, search for gmail and click uninstall updates.

Just download the previous version from forum or custom rom that has gmail inside. Just take the gmail.apk then install

I had issues rolling back... Even after uninstalling the update, my notifications were still broken, ended up doing a factory reset (and good thing I do a daily backup!)
Was having all kind of other problems with the new gmail app too...auto sync wasn't working anymore so had to refresh manually, emails sometimes wouldn't send and the number of unread emails wouldn't clear. A complete mess really

I can't update GMail, I can't even see it in the Market? Does anybody know why?
It's not among all the Apps I have downloaded.
I can't even find it when searching for it, it just doesn't show up!?

Just search for "gmail" in the market. App is preinstalled so it won't show in the apps downloaded from the market, but if you find it in the market it will just say "update". And yeah, 2.3.5 gmail breaks all notification services that are supposed to retreive unread emails, no longer possbile for now, but i use Samsung Social Hub anyway.
Here is a link to explain it further.
"Basically, previously an app just had to declare that they use the READ_GMAIL permission in it’s Manifest and it would all work. Now though, they’ve added the androidrotectionLevel="signature" which means that only the Gmail app itself can access it’s DB (as that’s the only thing which will have the right signature).
Which means that all the Gmail notifiers, widgets, etc in the Market will not work. Ever. The same can be said for FriendCaster’s Gmail notifications feature.
Thanks Google…."
Yeah!!! Thanks Google!
Edit: Also, Google's competitor (Windoz Phone) shows an unread count on their phones, why can't google have the same native widget that does an unread count. We had to completely rely on 3rd party developers, BUT NOW it wont work!
STUPID GOOGLE!
Someone mod it lol

just don t install de update , or unistall it from market , it breaks , popup , missed reminder , etc.... i won t install untill the other app works with the new gmail
Gmail v2.3.5 seems to break ADWNotifier to. Because that can notify of e-mails from Gmail.
ADW Notifier can no longer do a "count" but can put up the question mark bubble, at least in Chuck Norris mode. Latest update fixed the FC issue it was having.
Google probably though they were helping increase Android security, as I imagine they changed the permissions to prevent potential privacy problems.
I unlocked Gmail 2.3.5. Pure messenger widget can read Gmail 2.3.5 (modded) if you follow 'solution 3' ... http://bit.ly/ph4T0a

Would be nice to try Social Hub, but it will not accept GMail as an account on my phone. Gave up on it.
Tried the uninstall update method. No go.
Google's starting to develop some of the M$ bad habits. Maybe they ARE getting too big.

I've had the phone 4 days. Might have to do my 3rd factory reset! Fun and games. Your solution seems to be the only one that works.

I ended up doing a Stop, Clear Cache, Uninstall, and reboot. I'm back on 2.3.4.1.

But does it work?
Title says it all. I have tried everything I have found in this forum with no luck. Basic problem is I have to click refresh in gmail to recieve my email. I am not rooted and my htc evo and desktop all work flawlessly and notify me about new emails. Any ideas would be helpful.

Go to settings / accounts and sync / and verify you dont have any red icons on the gmail account. If you do there are normally error why. You can also ensure you have mail checked to synchronize as well as contacts.
That is the first step that comes to mind. If you have not already, delete amd readd the acct. You will want to play close attention when setting back up the settings on each setup page. You may have set sync frequency to manual or something.

I have deleted the account and deleted the data from the gmail app under manage applications. I have checked and unchecked the sync setting many times. Each time I re check the gmail sync it syncs fine and if I have a new email it will notify me but after that if I get an email I get no notification on my SGT unless I click refresh in the app or uncheck then re check sync.

What are your notification settings in the gmail account application?

Notify in system bar when email arrives

Do you have any other Android devices? If so, do they sync correctly?
Do you have any type of authentication set in gmail?
Have you tried a factory reset?
Are you using the gmail app and not the email app?
Do Google Talk notifications work correctly?
Sorry if some of these questions sound dumb, but better to cover all bases before moving on.
Awe good point.... I think he is using the email app vs the gmail app. I dont think the notification option mentioned is available in the gmail app.

Trust me they are not dumb questions I did tech support for a few years... It is just sad when you have to ask "Is the computer plugged into the wall socket?" Anyway yes I have an HTC EVO the gets the IMAP push just fine as does my desktop running Chrome. I have just a regular single password set up for gmail. I have not done a factory reset yet. I am using the gmail app. I dont use google talk but google voice notification work. The voice notifications are not IMAP but set on a timer ever 15 minutes however.
I had this same problem and tried everything toto make it work. I never got it fixed, so I did a factory reset and it works fine now.
Thats what I am thinking of trying. Wish it could be simpler though. :\

I think i had this once.... But a delete and readd fixed it. Do you have your gmail setup to backup your apps and bookmarks to chrome? You can also use mybackup pro to backup other on device media and OS settings. =)

Just tried a factory reset and the problem remains. Could my router be blocking the push. Chrome gets the push fine on the same router I use the extension "Google Mail Checker" I am out of Ideas.
Try restarting your router just in case.
I don't know if this applies to your issue? http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google Mobile/thread?tid=3a06c995ce0f82ae&hl=en
Yep that is the same problem I am having. That page was my first try for a fix before posting. I went through all of those steps and it didnt resolve the issue thats when I posted here. I am begining to think I am just out of luck.

Completely disabled firewall on my router and boom it works. WOOT! Do you know what port # IMAP could be using different than what chrome is using.
Re enabled firewall still working. Beats me. :-|

Install this app and backup your sms (texts). It says it can even email you the backup. You can then view the file on your computer and do what you'd like with it. The data format is going to be a little raw though. Personally, I'd just import into Excel and clean it up, but you'll have to see if this does what you need for now.
I'm sure someone else will have a better suggestion. This was just off the top of my head.

SMS Backup version 1.1.1. This sends all your text messages to your gmail account. I've been using it for a long time and it works great. The author of this app is Christoph Studer.

Or you can use Google voice which will save a copy on your Google account automatically after setup that you can pull up anywhere and check just like gmail.

Its saves as a html. No reason you cant open that and pull the texts you want out and print them. Could change them and restore too, then you have text from someone that never happen. Hmmmm. Lmao

First time so far that I received a mail attachment. I clicked on it and get an alert that there is no program to run the file. Where's an option to save an attachment? Using the latest Gapps for my ROM.
The answer is that it's EXT sensitive. It can 't be a APK or BIN for two just have to XXX it out.

I had a problem with an app and the Dev sent me four different versions to try out as some ROMs were having a problem. I had to boot up my PC, check my mail and download/transfer to my N10. I later remembered that my mail is handled by Yahoo!, it's Uverse so I could have logged into Yahoo! mail and got the files to that way while still using the N10.
I don't use Gmail.
