You can move files to the USB storage and install from there. You will need a file manager though, not sure how to get that installed wiithout a net connection.

Put the file on the storage drive. Then using the file manager go to the file and click on it, install. You should get a a pop up saying its blocked, go to settings/applications/check unknown sources. You should be able to install after that.

I have been using windows mobile for the past 20 years I just got a new HTC Desire Z with OS Android my question is once I have installed Micro SD card for the life of me I can't find away to access it any help would be appreciated.
I'm not sure that I understand what you want. If you want to directly access files on the card, you need a file manager app. Astro is one that I don't believe requires root. Otherwise, apps and your camera automatically save data to your sdcard by default.
Another option is to plug it into your computer and turn on USB client mode when prompted.

Go to Settings>Storage, does your SD card space show up there?
Another option: Plug in your phone on the usb cable to your computer and try to acces storage mode.

Download it from the Market.
Oh, and this page might be helpful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801206
Well that was easy thanks guys for you help.
Once connected, on your device, open the Notifications screen and touch on “Select to change USB connection type”. Select Disk Drive Mode and touch Done.
Next, on your PC, go to My Computer and you will see a listing for your device which is actually the SD Card. Open that drive and make the desired changes.
No problem, and ofcourse: Welcome to Android!
Ok I down loaded Astro is says it is installed but I can't find it.

If it's downloaded and installed from the market, it should just appear on top of your app list in the app drawer.
I can install from the market okay but if I have a .apk on my sd card I want to install I get the message that it cannot. Tells me the file cannot be viewed from here. Here is the exact words:
sdcard/download/amazon_appstore-release.apk
application/vnd.android.package-archive does not work.
Any ideas? This is getting frustrating and my searches have not turned out anything worthwhile.
Have checked the option for installing 3rd party apps in settings

Maybe just reflash the package installer .apk from your rom

You could always try using adb to push the package from your PC to the phone while connected with USB debugging enabled.
adb install <package_file_name>

Or file expert with root mode enabled.
cd's or tapes?
The flash storage on my nexus 7 seems to not be rewriting like it should, when i pull it up in Windows i can see and delete things from the MTP interface. But when i use a file manager (OI File Manager) i can see the files once more and get an error when i attempt to delete them. i have done the Backup & Reset option within android after attempting a full data reset in ClockworkMod Recovery. At this point i am scratching my head. i am downloading another rom and will flash and post what i get from that.
Anyone else have this strange issue?
I've noticed this as well, anything I delete with ES File Explorer still shows up when it's plugged into my macbook but isn't actually accessible, I'm still on the stock ROM.

Nope, not even rooted, not really a big issue since I mostly use airdroid to transfer files but it would be nice to fix it.

The next thing i am going to do is return to stock, a complete re-flash to see if it empties the storage, I am posting all my theories so that anyone with the same issue could easily follow.
Success!
Using Wugfish Nexus Toolkit, my problem appears to have been solved. whether it is a perminant fix or not has yet to be known.
When I plug my phone in to my PC, it always comes up with this "Connected as Installer" Verizon crap. It mounts a disc on my PC. Is there a way to disable this or have it go straight to the MTP storage? I know it goes to MTP after about 15 seconds but that's not the point. Verizon shouldn't force this "installer" every time you plug in your device. I've disabled all of the Verizon bloat already and it still opens a drive that has Verizon installers. I've searched but it seems there haven't been any topics on this yet.
Thanks!
Is it trying to install something on the pc? Maybe just let it install it and it won't do it again, if that's the issue. My T-Mobile G2 asked to install LG stuff when I first connected it and after the 3rd time I let it install and that was that but the LG programs are helpful at least.

It's trying to install some Verizon Mobile crap that I definitely don't need/want. I haven't found a setting that sends it straight into MTP mode. When it mounts the Verizon Mobile installer, I've tried to delete the contents from the drive on the PC but it doesn't let me. Not sure what else to do. I'm sure every other Verizon LG owner has this happen too...right? RIGHT!?
It's a driver installer that you do need...select on the phone what you want or to do.

Right. I know I can choose what I want on the phone. How do I get it to stop coming up with the installer? I have the driver already.

I know I'm digging up old threads here... but this is seriously driving me insane. Anyone ever find a solution not requiring root?

What's particularly awesome about this, is that I can't connect to my car via USB anymore. The phone thinks the car is a computer, tries to mount a partition, car won't let it, and it errors out. Thanks Verizon!
found it...
this is the file
/system/usbautorun.iso
delete this or if you want to keep these divers as backup, you can rename this file.

I deleted it and now it just mounts and when I click it, it says insert a disk into drive. I know its the right one. When I unplug my phone it goes away. I have mtp mode clicked on my phone but in notification it says connected as installer

not working - after deleting the file now the phone still says "installer" but there is no "disk" on my mac.
I just got my G2 (T-Mobile) and am wanting to transfer my files over to it from my old phone. Unfortunately, im on a mac. So I have to use Android File Manager, except it wont work. I either get a cant connect to device error, or it loads up but wont display files or let me make any transfers.
Any suggestions? I have many gigs to transfer so a wireless solution isn't optimal.
Thanks a bunch!

Had a problem with it too. Just download "Airdroid" on the play store and you can transfer files easily through WiFi.

Files are to large for wifi, as I stated in my OP. But once I installed a ROM it worked normally again. Got all my files.
