HD2 Weakening Screen/Hairline Cracks - HD2 General

Perhaps I am a bit OCD about my phones, but I have dropped my hd2 (unprotected) at least 3 times. One time from about 2 feet onto a rug, and the other two times about 1 foot to the wood table. Now, I have noticed some very fine scratches, maybe cracks in the screen. If it were a crack, should the screen give way to pressure, even if it is very small? I am only asking this because I feel though my next drop will be on pavement.

If you look at your screen in strong sun light at an angle with the screen turned off you will be able to see faint diagonal lines criss crossing the screen as well as a pattern of dots. These are all part of the touch screen and normal. If you have any irregular lines which aren't surface scratches then yes, these could be stress fractures in one of the screen layers.
Slight pressure shouldn't make them crack but they won't get any better, especially if you keep dropping it. Get a case, or some really strong glue to stick the phone to your hand!

Looks like the digitizer has been damaged from your accidental drops.
Keep an eye on it and if functionality stops working then the whole unit - LCD and digitizer must be replaced.
Good luck

Is there a way to distinguish small scratches from cracks? I can see some light lines from the right of the the phone's screen when in sunlight, starting from the very edge. You would think that most scratches would occur on the screen, where you actually use the phone. And yeah, I just bought an otterbox defender.

Maybe not scratch proof but I would probably say scratch resistant. I have hand my omnia7 for 7-8 months and it has one small scratch less than half a centimeter and thinner than a hair. it is only visible when the screen is off and i have cleaned it well or when it is on a white screen, if looking very closly there is slight discolouration.
i dont take perticular care of what goes in my pocket with my phone and and not extra cautious though i have only dropped my phone once onto a wooden floor.
in short I have a scratch that is barely noticable and i am not looking for a screen protector as i belive the disadvantages of haveing one would outweight the tiny advantage that having one may have. also i dont think anyone with a screen protector that has the scratch that i have would consider the bother of replacing it!
hope that helps!

thank you, NikD1.
Mine fell down, and - how else could it be - on the screen. This has happened now three times I think. Not a single scratch. Not even the tiniest one.
That screen is really great!
As I hate using protection foils that made me buy this phone
By accident dropped it 2-3 times, holds very well. The screen/phone i have in a special case tighten to the belt so that it does not get any scratches on the screen.
Amazes me that i don't have the tinniest scratch on my screen; the screen seems to be very effective against scratches and damages.
No case, no screen protector, always in my pocket, but separate from keys or coins
Fell once or twice from my hands, marble floor
Fell maybe 3 times from the table, marble floor
Fell twice down the road, on concrete
...plus it was submerged in beer !
it hold perfectly, but I do see a tiny dent right in the center of the screen when sunlight is quite strong. Nothing major, though
My HTC Desire at this point was way more battered
I don't use a case or screen protector and I've got the phone in my pocket everyday. After a few months still not a single scratch
I've had mine for 8 months and I have several scratches on mine. they are all from sitting in my pocket without anything else in them.
I noticed my first scratch quite early on (within a few months) but these scratches are actually pretty hard to see and you have to be looking for them pretty deliberately to see them.
I wonder if it is the same with the other folks... you may have scratches on your screen but you probably can't see them very well.
i dont understand why samsung dont have used glorilla glass for this device
When I compare my Omnia7 with my former phone(Xperia X1) is Omnia7's screen like a rock, but you can scratch if you carry it with key's or any sharp objects...
I carry my omnia in a Case around my waist and have no scartches yet

AFAIK it IS gorilla glass. (As it is the same as for the wave)
I don't think it has Gorilla glass, I got my phone, it was shiny and new, no scratches on the screen whatsoever (I inspected it thoroughly for defects) and after a few days of using, noticed a scratch when I cleaned the screen, thin as a hair but 2cm long Thankfully when I applied the screen protector, it has hidden it really well. I barely used the phone and I always kept it in my left pocket (which I only ever exclusively use for my mobile phone!)
i also have some scratches. after a month of use they appeared. i have no idea how they got there, i take a very good care of the phone, it never gets into contact with anything other than my fingers.
but the scratches are only noticeable when the screen is perfectly clean (which is almost never), turned of and looked from a specific angle.
I have more issues with grease. those guys are killing me.
Oh my god, so i'd better buy a screen protector for my omnia 7 :-(((
Yes, Gorilla Glass... After 3 months of use I still don't have a scratch (knock on wood) even without a screen protector...
no, it's not I am pretty sure... I got a little scratch now... I just want to cry now....
All I know is that both me and my sister got Omnia 7s back in November last year.
I put a screen protector and case on mine and am very careful with my phone and its still perfect.
She on the other hand has no case and no screen protector and is not very careful with her things. She has one little scratch on hers where her dog knocked it across a tile floor. It has been dropped numerous times and shoved in a bag with all sorts.
I'd say it's pretty resiliant.
A used phone without any scratches on the screen is a disgrace
Gorilla glass, even with the proper branding aren't totally scratch proof, to the best of my knowledge. Anyway, two omnia7 for 8 months, not a scratch (almost )

[Q] OMG what is this a rub mark on my screen?

I woke up today to find this rub mark on my galaxy tab 7.7, it stretches from one side of the glass to almost the other! When i rub it with a cloth it goes away, but then it comes back in about 30mins. Does anyone know how to get rid of this or do I have to return my product. Its not the screen as the picture will indicate the mark covers the top right side of the bezel.

I do not know if I am helping but is there a screen protector on your tab? If there is, it might be your screen protector's problem. Hopefully this helps.
No screen protector
Picture isn't very clear or big.
Samsung tablets have been prone to "oil slick" problems, which are a manufacturer's defect.
Example of "oil slick:" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orEJGB9r7OE WARNING: Loud noises on video.
When I get home from work I'll be able to snap a better picture of the mark.
Ok, here's an updated picture.
[update] again, let me reiterate: when i wipe down the marks they go away, but in time they return
Seems to be an issue with the glass (or better the manufacturing) as it also goes under the bezel. I would return it for guarantee.
try cleaning it with a mild soapy water if not have it replaced.
Yea it looks like the glass is detaching from the panel only in that area. Either the adhesive there isn't enough to hold it down or there could be a curvature in that area causing it to lift up. When you press it down the adhesive takes for a bit but eventually detaches again. Either way that's a manufacturing defect so you should definitely return it. It could eventually spread to the rest of the screen in time as it weakens the adhesive around the affected area.
yes you are right, I woke up this morning and what did I find but more lines, I called expansys.co.kr and they initially told me I would have to pay a fee for the lcd to be fixed, but since I told the rep its more a problem with the glass the rep told me she would get back to me later today about this issue.
thanks everyone for your input, I will update this thread when I get more info
If you look at a breakdown of the Tab 7.7 the battery is located on thats side. I had a problem once with my iphone that when it heated up the screen protector strated to warp with the heat. On cooldown and a wipe it would appear better.
This looks very similar to what I experienced it may be worth trying a different brand incase the glue used reacts more than normal to heat.
Also the treatment used on the screen is designed to resist fingerprints so it may also prevent the glue from adhering.
I use screen cleaner on my screen before fitting screen protectors. It may help.

Screen covered in scratches after one week

Anyone else have an issue with how easily the screen scratches. After a week my screen is completely covered in scratches. I never dropped or had keys in the same pocket as the phone. I thought GG4 should have prevented this. It is hard to use the phone now with all of the scratches. It is very distracting.
Zero scratches on mine, no screen protector (yet, on order) and do carry it in my front pocket.
No scratches on mine yet either. Only things that will scratch this screen are things that are harder, i.e. sand, some metal, diamonds. I know its too late now but I would suggest you turn your pockets inside out when you (or your laundress) does your wash. Sounds like you have some contaminates there.
maybe sand from beach? it can have quartz in it.
There are definitely no contaminates in my pocket. This phone scratches way easier than any other phone I have had. Funny I though the aluminium body is were I would have to worry, but nope, not a mark on the body. The glass on the other hand is badly scratched up.
Shame Nexus Protect doesn't cover these type of issues.
Spontaneous scratches? So you just woke up one morning and your screen was so scratched that you can't use the phone? Do you live in Area 51? I love to see a picture of that taken with your iPhone.
I never said they spontaneously showed up one morning. But the screen isn't as hard as people are claiming. I never had an issue with N5 and scratches, and now this screen is covered in them after only a week.
To be clear the phone is physically still very much usable. These are very superficial scratches only visible when the phone is dim and at specific angles. But it is very annoying when you see them.
The glass is gorilla glass 4.
It's harder than any gorilla glass that came before it.
Dems the facts...
I don't know what scratched your glass, but it isn't the glass's fault...
not a single scratch here
do u live close to the coast? have sand on ur pockets? Sand(silica) can be harder than glass and cause scratches
Mine uncovered for almost a week while I wait for screen protection.
No scratches.
I'm with GSMan201; I've had the 6p for about a month and after a week had multiple small scratches on the top of the screen near the speaker, and now I'm noticing more small scratches appearing on other parts of the screen. As previously mentioned, they aren't major scratches by any means and can only be seen with the screen off and phone held at certain angles. However, it's quite disconcerting as I had both the nexus 4 and nexus 5 and neither seemed to scratch as easily as this phone...... I should also mention scratches occurred when the phone was naked as well as with a wallet style case that covers the screen, and to my knowledge has never been in contact with materials that would have scratched it. On a positive note, it's the only disappointment I've had with the phone so far.
I've looked mine over closely and no scratches on the screen area at all. No case on the device, carried in a belt holder and no screen protector.
I've got a small scratch near my front-facing camera. It's just a matter of time before everyone's glass scratches, so be sure to get screen protectors.
It seems that these threads pop up for every popular phone. You should buy a screen protector based on whether you care if you're screen is scratched, not whether you think it will scratch or not. There's really no reason not to buy one now that glass screen protectors have gotten so cheap, even cheaper than the nicer plastic ones were just a few years ago.

I would bet that the coating on the screen is scratched and not the actual glass. Only takes a grain of sand or dirt in the pocket. These scratches don't distort the pixels so are only visible at certain angles and in direct light. I noticed (after wearing the same pair of jeans for a few days in a row ) that a few showed up on my 6P so I bought a TGSP. Gets a little cloudier in direct light than the naked screen but it's worth it for peace of mind. I've had these on every screen I've ever owned to some degree including iPhone 4s, 5s, 6 and... DINC!
anyone with diamond stub earrings?
Same here, three scratches, after less than a month, including a long one (and disturbing on white content) in the middle. All scratches are horizontal. I guess it's not Gorilla Glass 4... I still prefer this over a broken screen though, but it's not that pleasant

Phone screens always find a way to get scratched. No matter what the glass is, expect it to scratch. End of

Tempered Glass Screen Protectors (Fix the halo effect)

Tempered glass screen protectors have a rampant problem of not sticking to the rounded edges of the glass screens on modern cellular devices (especially the Mix). I solved this problem:
Take a small amount of petroleum jelly and rub it around the edges of the film. Hit it with the hot setting on a hair dryer (you should see liquified petroleum jelly start to seep into the edges of the screen protector), and you get perfect adhesion, regardless of rounded edges.
I know it sounds like there could be quite a lot of potential to damage your device performing this. However, I did this with the utmost care (My "OCD" kicked in and I worked on this solution for at least an hour), and after a good deal of cleaning with isopropyl alcohol (obviously, try to get the highest concentration you can; I have access to lab grade stuff, but 90% from like CVS should be fine) my Mix functions perfectly, and I no longer have the annoying light colored ring around my screen protector (Note that I did a clean install of said protector before doing this; I'd imagine if you've been using one, dust accumulation under the edges would cause this not to work as well).
Can you post a pic? I had a tempered glass screen protector on it. I ordered it from Amazon and after installing it I got the ring, I left it on over night thinking it wouldn't bother me but in the morning I just took it off and chucked it in the trash, couldn't live with that on such a beautiful screen..
I have some circular yellowing in the top corners as well as some scattered parshley dead pixels on the very edge of the top corners. Kind of disappointed after fronting $800 for what i thought would be a premium phone.

S8 Active Screen Defect?

Just got one this weekend. I got a decent glass screen protector. I applied it and noticed lines under the protector form and not go away. It looks as if there is moisture or grease...or maybe adhesive from the dust removal sticker I used on the screen prior to putting the glass on. Nothing changed in 24 hours, so I took it off and the line marks were ghosted onto the underside of the glass protector. And I had to scrub remnants of the lines off the screen itself. I used the second of 2 glass protectors after really cleaning and drying. Same thing.
I took the protector off and cleaned the screen. Upon inspecting, I find that holding the phone on a certain angle, there are ripple lines on the screen. It's like the screen isn't flat (that may be the problem of the lines under the protector?) It's like the screen is wavy..but symmetrical wavy. I've looked at a co workers Note 8 and I dont see this wave pattern on the screen.
Is anyone noticing this or familiar? I am attaching 2 photos. One showing what happens with the glass protector. Then another with the glass off. I had to angle the phone just right. You can see the ripple if you look at the reflection of the white window frame in the photo.
Thoughts?

My screen has similar waves on it when looking at an angle. I think that's just a side effect of the gorilla glass. I haven't used a screen protector on it though, can't help you there...

Ohh boy. You better put something on it. This screen is SO susceptible to scratches, its pathetic. I used the phone for 2 days before my first glass protector came and I already had 3 small scratches on the screen. I had the phone in a felt lined pouch the whole time....never was dropped or used by anyone else but me.

Yeah there's plenty of those marks on it, but only noticeable when looking with the screen off. While the screen is on, it's not noticeable. My main concern is fractures, in that sense, it's sturdy.
