internet blocked in Libya, please help! - Networking

this is not galaxy s related or even android related, however this is extremely crucial! i dont belong to any other communities where people know about these kinds of things, so please help! hourly more and more internet access is being cut in Libya, i can no longer access my email (mail.google.com), or any other google service (youtube, ect), yahoo.com is down and up randomly. they are trying to block outside contact with Libya, does anyone know of a proxy, program, way-around all these blocks being put in place? libya-watanona.com (a Libya news site) is blocked as well. from what i can tell many well known proxy websites are blocked as well.. does anyone know of a proxy program or addon, or website, or settings that wont be blocked?
thank you xda forums, please help us

wish i knew how to do that ish...
been wondering since they blocked content from canada.
but them blocking the internet... that is messed up man. they are tryin to break the people. don't let them.
i pray your people stay as safe as possible... and hope you find a way to get the message out.

I know that a lot of folks use third party VPN solutions to route their traffic through an external IP but I don't know anything specific sorry
At least XDA isn't blocked

just doing some googling:
hope that helps
1) if all else fails: take your old analogue modem and dial into foreign ISP
2) Citizens' band radio; walkie-talkie, etc.
3) setting up tor servers:
http://en.linuxreviews.org/HOWTO_setup_a_Tor-server
https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/TheOnionRouter/TorFAQ
using Tor through ssh tunnel: http://itnomad.wordpress.com/2006/09/28/tor-howto-using-tor-through-a-ssh-tunnel/
4) ...

Tor's a very good idea...free to use to

I was also thinking about Tor, and Orbot (open source)

Idk if it would help althought...

Now, Libya under the power of President Muammar al-Gaddafi also blocked Internet services, including social networking site Twitter. So, Google took the initiative to launch the service of speak to tweet for the people of Libya.
The service allows Libyan people to preach the information about the situation in the country to the outside world. They only need to call the phone numbers provided by Google.
Furthermore, Google will process and disseminate the information through Twitter account. And, as broadcasted on Al Jazeera TV, this is the phone number provided by Google to be a mouthpiece of the people of Libya: +1 650 419 4196, +3 906 622 0729 4, +4420331 8451 4.

Extremely slow browsing on 3g network.

I am having this particular problem with my 3g network. I am currently using a BSNL 3g prepaid SIM card in India. It's not the fastest bit it is quite reliable. I could easily manage 2-3 Mbps download speed which is more than enough for me for on the go usage. And it's pretty cheap too @ Rs 403 for 3gb with a validity for 90 days. That's less than USD 10.
Initially I used this SIM card on my Nokia E71. The browsing was more than OK. After I switched my SIM to my 7.7, I have been having some problems during browsing. The pages are not loading and the data transfer seems to be stuck. But if I am downloading something, it's pretty fast. I am currently using dolphin browser, Firefox, overscreen and stock browser in order of preference. What could be causing this problem?

In Wireless and Networks > Mobile networks > Network Mode > Select WCDMA only
You should see H+ speed in task bar
I am not sure if it would help, but some mobile carrier proxyed port 80 with something like Bluecoat, which would favour mobile browsing, and throffle desktop like traffic. They do this to prevent unauthorzed tethering, as some mobile carrier might charger extra for tethering.
Browsing with 7.7 might resemble desktop browsing. You may try change the agent in hope to trick the proxies. Many browsers like dolphin allow changing of agent.

Inspite of choosing WCDMA, browsing still sucks. These are few results of my speed using the speedtest android app. Download and upload are pretty ok. It's the browsing that seems to be stuck.

Argh, you should have done in opposite way, change the agent such that it could be recognized as a mobile device rather than a desktop.

Hi, why are you waiting for ICS, its been out a while now and its great....I would recommend doing the upgrade first then changing your agent to phone and not desktop as per the other members above. this makes sense and should work out for you and the connection issue.
Putting the phone into CDMA only can help but I have found that doing this will often help for a little while but often look over to find it has no network at all, then I need to go into settings and re-register on the network to get it back online as to speak.
The best thing ever for you is to flash the ICS from Samfirmware and then do a wipe after that, start from scratch and you should be fine.
I would also do the cheapest assesment first and get a friends SIM card and try that network or try another one from your own network provider and see if that helps.....
Last thing, my galaxy tab 7.7 would not download from the market (Play store) even though I could do anything else on the internet and found a fix for it on XDA (Kings of Android) which was to remove the proxy and port from the network settings APN and leave them blank, dont forget to save before you close or they dont save at all.
Try these, they should get you running

@glenroebuck: There are two ATIV S models; I'm guessing you got the SGH-T899M since it has LTE? If possible, please test a couple things for me:
1) Go to Settings -> About -> More Info, and list the OS, Radio, and Firmware version numbers.
2) Go to Settings -> Internet Sharing, and try to enable it (even if your plan doesn't support it, tell me what error message you get).
I'm trying to track down something that might be a problem with the phone or might be a problem with the OS or might just be a problem with my device, and there aren't many USA users of the SGH-T899M it seems.
os 8.0.10211.204
Firmware 2212.12.12.2
radio 2212.12.12.2
radio firmware 0.0.0.0
turned it on and it told me there is no cellular data connection to share right now.
Damn... that's the same error I get (even though it's blatantly false; I get that error even while I'm streaming music and downloading apps over said data connection).
Same version info too. They apparently have March and April 2013 updates, but those might only be for the other ATIV S model... I can't get them myself.

that is weird I only ever got it when you had me test it although today in my home city of clevlelad I got lte in some places but not near my home and it completly lost signal...like emergency calls only. I had to reboot to get it back. Did not have those issues in anaheim and Las Vegas both lte areas - but we are not official yet here in cle.
You're on T-Mobile, right? Set the APN to "fast.t-mobile.com" (no username or password) and it should work on both HSPA+ ("4G") and LTE (you'll briefly lose data when switching, but it comes back quickly; if that's too annoying then disable LTE). I think the APN info built into the phone for T-Mobile is wrong or possibly just outdated, which is why it doesn't switch to LTE gracefully and also why tethering doesn't work (tethering uses a different APN, "pcweb.tmobile.com", note the lack of a hyphen in this one).
People with the other model ATIV S have reported that after installing the April firmware update, they're able to install an app called "APN" that automatically configures their phone, including enabling tethering (although probably not LTE, which I believe is unavailable on that model). There is an app called "APNs" in the store for the T899M, but it doesn't have the auto-config option, nor the ability to set a tethering APN.

I used the apn app from samsung to configure fast.t-mobile.com when I was in vegas to get lte to work. It has been working ever since only yesterday was the first time i experienced no network after coming off LTE but again it is not official here in Cleveland so that might be the issue.
Other than that I love this phone. Since I have had a zune account for ever - if I shazam a song it lets me dl it directly from xbox store (zune account = xbox music acccount) Myappfree is a great way to get good apps for nothing. (they have a daily free app) and really any app I would use on android or iphone - there is the same or a similar app here. and the Ativ is such an pretty phone lol...people always ask me "is that the new s4?" then I explain it is a windows phone and they get a blank look

ROOT PERMISSION NEEDED, 4.1 or above
Hello everyone, some days back I was searching an app to program some whatsapp messages, and I found 1 or 2 apps, but are so hard to use and takes so much time so, I made this app thinking that to create a new messages not takes a lot of time.
The app is very easy to use, you only need to pick your contact, write the message and select when you want to send the message. Take care, because the app is a BETA version for now, but I need some feedback on other phones, obviusly, you need ROOT PERMISSIONS.

Yes mate, for now is only compatible from 5.0 and above, but when it works okey in 5.0 I will make it compatible with below versions, anyway thanks for try the app
Edit: The app works okey from 4.0 and above I think, but not works always. The problem is that this app needs to reconect from internet to force whatsapp to update the messages and I can only do that from 5.0 (using internet data, not wifi).
Version 1.21, compatibility from Jelly Bean
In this new version must work from android 4.1, but take care, if at the moment to send the message you are not connected to wifi, the message will be delayed. I will fix this problem as soon as possible.

Thanks for this questions are very interesting.
I gonna explain the conditions, are very easy:
If you are connected to WIFI, the app turn off the wifi and reconect again in 5 seconds.
If the WIFI is off then turn off data and reconect in 5 seconds.
I think with this two conditions I maneged the comun scenarios.
I will work to add group messages.
You have any other idea to add to app?
Thanks!
Version 2.0
Hi, I'm here again, I uploaded a new version to google play solving the most popular error.
- Now if you have not the sqlite3 file, the app will automatically add it to your xbin folder.
- New design.
- Solved problem with some country phone number.
- Now you can modify manually the phone number.
If you see any error contact with me please.
Thanks!

I'm curious about the benefits of rooting these days. I use to flash custom ROM's back in the day of the original Motorola Droid, and then after a stint with an iPhone 4, then Verizon-adulterated Samsung phones, I'm finally back to a rootable phone with the Moto X Pure. I have experience with rooting but it's been quite a while, so here are my questions:
What's changed?
Is Xposed as necessary as it used to be?
Are custom ROM's as stable as stock?
Will Marshmallow render a lot of the benefits of root useless?
I've seen some people refute the benefits of rooting since android has evolved over the years. So I was hoping some of you would be able to chime in.
the moto x pure has a curved back. when set flat on a table, does the phone rock back and forth when you try to type on it?

A bit yes. Its not terrible, but by because the curve it will tip from side to side / up and down (this is without the bumper or any case on). With the bumper on, its about the same as without.
Does anybody know if it has video out?

Very little, depending on how aggressive you are. I use it on my desk a lot without an issue. Couldn't handle it on the nexus 6 though.

so yes, it does? that's a shame. i wonder when manufacturers will stop overlooking this phone ruining flaw
I asked a while ago in the topic, but I never got a response.
I recall reading that the SD Card might need to be in some special format to use in some special way.
Can I have it as a straight fat32 formatted card so I can use it as straight storage and view it on computer normally?

If you are pressing on either edge it will, but I don't do that during normal use.

Phone ruining FLAW?? How is it a flaw?
If you want a flat phone you have several options in the market.
That "flaw" is one of the things us Moto guys love.

okay, how about these. I find I am REALLY missing the toggle switch for a "mute/vibrate" setting. I know you can hit the volume and STOP notifications, but I want a quick setting to move the phone to vibrate and still receive notifications. Any third party way? It's already burned me going in to a meeting when I first got the phone and having that insane ringtone go off. Scared the crap out of the people next to me. Thought the joint was haunted.
I didn't think I would miss wireless charging as much as I do, is there a third party solution? Is the back removable by someone (like me) of limited skills and ability? Also, I am digging the Moto notification screen (trial and error). If I am in a "trusted" place, (so it won't lock), I swipe up to access the notification(s)? right or left to dismiss? down to the lock screen? Or up is dial pad?
On Verizon, anyone have visual voicemail working? I keep getting an error.
so far I am liking the phone, I have the screen crackle, miss the HD calling from Verizon with the built in video (guess we'll never get that?). Thanks for the help
AT&T Mobile Data
I just got my MXPE, and the mobile data isn't working. I got a new SIM card from AT&T just now, replaced, still nothing. Mobile data is enabled. Does anyone know why it wouldn't be working?

What does your APN look like? Go to Settings-more-cellular network settings-access point names then click on whatever is in there. Mine says
Name: AT&T Nextgenphone
APN nxtgenphone
Proxy not set
Port not set
username not set
password not set
server not set
mmsc http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
mms proxy proxy.mobile.att.net
mms port 80
mcc 310
mnc 410
authentication type not set
apn type default,mms,supl,hipri,fota
apn protocol ipv4
bearer unspecified
Also in the menu on the APN page you can try and reset to default option.
I have noticed that there is a new Messaging app icon. Is the app itself unique? And does someone mind posting an apk if possible?
Thanks
Is anyone else having problems taking pictures from their moto x via their moto 360 app? The app loads on my watch when I open the camera but pressing the shutter on the watch doesn't do anything. Any thoughts? For now I'll build a tasker profile to do this, but it would be nice if it would work how its intended to.
Tried searching for someone else that may have asked question before haven't seen posted yet.

Does the Moto X Pure from Moto Maker work with carriers outside of the US?

Yes it should, you just need to check which bands your carrier uses and check them against the available bands on the phone.
After unlocking bootloader, twrp, and root, I lost voice over Internet feature. I can't surf Internet and talk at the same time. Can someone please help me, plz?

Android for Work compatibility?

I've done quite a bit of searching, and input every search term I can think of, but haven't been able to find an answer to this question: Does anyone know if the Zenfone 2 Laser ze551kl supports Work Profiles for Android for Work?
*EDIT* -- I figured out a way that people can test to see if their phone natively supports Work Profiles (required for Android for Work using Google's MDM): Test DPC, Google's profile test app for developers. If you (or anyone else reading this) is able, could you download Test DPC on your ze551kl and at least go through the initial steps in setup? If the phone doesn't support Work Profiles it will through up a message saying as much (tested the app on an s4, which got that error message) in the first few steps of the setup.
All more general searches I do only bring up results for the recent firmware update that added support to the ze551ml (not the ze551kl). When I narrow the search enough to exclude that model from the results, I only get results for lists of articles or queries that have separate, unrelated posts for ze551kl and Android for Work.
It's too bad all manufacture's don't just include support for the Work Profile (i.e., the AT&T S4 I currently use issued as a work phone still doesn't support it).
So -- does anyone know the answer to this question? I'd really appreciate it.
Its got the ability to have different user profiles, but I'm not sure if that's what you're referring to. Is it an app or would it be in the settings menu somewhere?

It's a bit different than user profiles, but similar.
http://arstechnica.com/information-...r-work-dual-persona-support-comes-to-android/
It essentially creates a containerized section on the phone for Google Apps for Work. You end up with "two" hangouts, gmail, contacts, etc (which is nice, because it removes the account from switching account options in apps -- like when you share to Hangouts and it makes you select an account everytime if you have more than one). Instead of the work accounts device policy enabling it to see all apps installed on phone, have permissions to remote wipe, the Work Profile makes it so that the work account device policy can only see information in the Work Profile, and only has permissions to remote wipe the work profile.
I currently use Android for Work on my Moto X Pure 2014, and carry a separate s4 issued by work. I'd like to just put both of those sims into one phone, but I need something decent, that supports data on both sims (data connection active on both at same time not required), that also supports Android for Work.
Gotcha, I don't really see any Android for work options anywhere in mine, is there anything you had to download from the Play Store on your Moto X to get it working?

Unfortunately it's only something you can verify if you start setting up a Google apps account that can use it. Otherwise it doesn't show up anywhere.
I really appreciate you digging around for it though.

Ahh gotcha. If I hear something, I'll let you know. Might be worth a shot to email ASUS about it.

Unfortunately, we have an answer. Maybe there's hope they'll add support with the Android M update?

We can only hope. Really appreciate you taking the time to test it!
Still trying to figure out if all devices on Marshmallow (whether launched with it, or updated to it) include support for Work Profile. Seems like that's the case, but having a hard time finding a definitive answer.

That would be awesome if 6.0 supports Android for work natively, at this point it probably should.
