I need help installing this custom rom! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964223
I dont know at all what to do?
What is the adb push?
How do I root? I cant Find xrecovery? What do I need to do with rom in order for it to work?
I dont understand any terminology? Could someone please put up a guide step by step so idiots like me can understand for this rom. I have x8 with offical 2.1 on it? Also can i reinstall 2.1 original rom after?
Thanks
Oh god. If you've so many troubles with merely searching for info maybe you shouldn't even start?...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 - rooting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878426 - xrecovery
Then you go into xrecovery and do what's said in miniCM thread. Enjoy.
E: And as for going back to 2.1 - once you have xrecovery simply make a backup with it, if you don't like CM you can always recover your original rom. Just remember - rooting voids your varranty
dontworry I got a refund for a rooted phone! LOL
Also how do I install xrecovery? I dont understand this:
Manual Installation:
- Download and unpack the recovery package
- use Root Explorer to remount /system rw
- copy the content of the package (3 files) into /system/bin folder
and there is no auto install. Also can I unroot the phone? And remove xrecovery?
Well, I actually do have a xrecovery autoinstall apk which you can download somewhere on this portal, can't exactly remember where - look it up.
As for unrooting - you can do it via superoneclick or by simply deleting superuser.apk.
Xrecovery you normally install by placing its files in proper directories through root explorer app, so once you erase them you no longer have xrecovery. If you find this autoinstall app you'll get these files placed in correct directories automatically, but it's not that hard to do manually

im trying to debrand the vodafone desire hd, its unlocked but the vodafone boot up and the pointless links are really annoying me,
is there anyway i can do this without having to lose any of my existing settings, i.e. contacts, calendar, gallery, etc. i just want this pointless sh#t off my phone
i believe i may need to root, but im not really sure how to do this, ive read up on a few methods but im not even sure how to access a terminal on the dhd, on the n900 it was all preloaded so if anyone could give me some quick info on this,
Sure
Make sure to read the guides in here first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821220
Do this first
-Root and S-OFF your Desire HD the "easy" version!
Then this
-ClockworkMod recovery for HTC Desire HD
And after you've done all this you should be fine to install custom roms
ok im trying to make some sense of the link you posted
i tried deleting the com.vf and sz voda files from the system/app folder, but it says it cannot delete

You can't delete anything from /system without perm root and s-off. With perm root only it will reappear when you reboot.
So you need to perm root with visionary, s-off, then you need to either flash an insecure boot.img or remount /system as read-write using either adb, terminal emulator or (the easy way) root explorer.
After all that you will be able to remove system files using either command line or root explorer app.
The easiest way to fix to de brand would be to use a stock ruu but you will have an empty phone after that.
Sent from my Desire HD by magic.
how do you enter recovery mode without update.zip? not too sure where to get this from
i suggest go to the app dev threads and read the stickies.
it should tell u basically the background.
u cant just jump in without knowing the background as to ..why you need s-off and why u need recovery..and why u need to have perm root..
yes i know..we want quick solutions..but for your benefit it will be better if u just read and start first by..doing small steps at a time
Hey i came from Galaxy S and rooting and flashing are so much different in that world is not funny!..

take a rom, open it with winrar or any extractor and take /system/fonts out of the zip..
(if you need sense fonts, use a flashable zip sense rom, otherwise AOSP)
AOSP fonts do also work on sense, the names are the same
root your phone..
then set up adb , some good guides here on the board..
connect phone with usb, no sdcard mounting
now:
Code:
adb remount
adb push yourfont.ttf /system/fonts
(repeat as long as you have ttf files: might work if you use *.ttf)
adb reboot
if you don't want to root, i don't know how to do it
EDIT: hope you are already rooted because with no fonts, how would you root your phone,
or install the necessairy files.. didn't notice it yet
grtz
that was not possible
i had to downlaod last rom at http://www.htc.com/uk/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=283&act=sd&cat=all , install it back to 1.5, then upgrade all the way OTA till latest version for it (a.k.a 2.1) , now back to normal
unfortunately had todo it via windows

you can setup adb in windows..
He used the RUU
@Bashar, if you root it again and want to experiment. Make sure you got a custom recovery. Easier to solve mess I guess You can create back-ups of your normal ROM in it as well. Anyway, glad it is back to normal.

i installed rom manager and trying to get clockworkMod installed but doesn't seem gets there when i reboot, any idea why ?
EDIT: everytime i reboot into recovery even if manually using the ClockworkMod i get Android System recovery <2e>
Greetings.
I am trying to install Cyanogenmod 7.0.2 on my HTC Tattoo (still has 1.6). This is the first time I've done this.
I am following the Cyanogenmod wiki page that shows you the whole process of rooting+flashing a new rom (since this is my first post I am unable to post outside links in this thread).
In the "Installing Clockworkmod Recovery" section, I get the following error when trying to flash the image:
flash_image: not found
I listed the files in /sdcard and saw that it was completely empty.
Can anyone tell me what I missed?
I copied the Clockworkmod image file to the root directory by connecting my phone to my PC through USB (USB Debugging was on) and copying the file there.
Please let me know how to solve this.
Thank you.
I was able to solve my problem and proceed with the attempt to flash Clockworkmod. Now I'm getting another error though:
error writing recovery: No space left on device
I have plenty of space in the SD Card (~2GB), but I'm assuming the problem is with the phone's internal memory. I don't know what I can delete.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I tried to do as you said and installed both Rom Manager and Superuser. But now I have other issues...
1. On Superuser, it says there is a newer version of su and to update. I accept and get the following error:
An error occurred and su was not updated. A zip file (su-2.3.1-bin-signed.zip) has been placed on your sdcard, please reboot into recovery mode and flash it to update your binary.
2. So, I decided to ignore the update of su and just move on to Rom Manager. Here, I get an error like "su was not found in /system/bin". Well, su is in "/data/local/bin", as per the cyanogen wiki to root the phone. After this, any attempt to flash Clockworkmod fails.
3. To try to make it so Rom Manager has everything it needs, I followed the wiki again, but this time I tried to move the su file to /system/bin. I got the following error:
failed on './su' - Cross-device link
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Hmm, i had the same problem when i was trying to Flash CM7...
Your phone is not rooted...
I know its very frustrating but no worries!
1.Download program from this thread ->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761507... you'll see the program in attachemnts and dl the first one.
2.Paste it in your's SD card , install it (use ASTRO MANAGER, to find the program)
3.Open the program and root the phone with 1 click
4. Then Superuser will ask you to allow it and click yes, and go to ROM MANAGER.
5.You will have to allow the Superuser here too.. Do it.
6.Flash Clockwork Mod recovery, and reboot into recoverymod.
7.Flash your Rom , flash Gapps(Google applications)
8.Enjoy
Thank you CROpipe!
Your instructions worked! I now have CM7 installed on my HTC Tattoo!
Here are the issues I found though:
1. When I was trying to download the ROM using ROM Manager, the list of ROMs was empty. Maybe it's because I was not using the Premium version...? I ended up downloading the ROM from the forum, copying it to the SD card and installing it that way.
2. I tried also to install GApps through Rom Manager. I was afterwards able to set up my google account, but I still had to manually download GMail, Google Maps, ... I'm not sure if this is actually how it's supposed to go... :-/
Anyway, thanks again for the help.
Yap that is quite allright Congrats on your new ROM ))

The simpliest way to install CWM is to plug your phone with debugging mode to your PC and run DMR.bat from this file. More information you'll find in this post.

Mount r/w for /system in root explorer and then copy the files over. GingerDX does not need CWM recovery, it only needs xRecovery to install. So root your x8, install xRecovery, backup phone, full wipe, install GingerDX, wipe cache and dalvik-cache and then reboot. Tada! GingerDX will be running on your phone.
Tada! MD5 missmatch? Did you know how to fix it? Thx again
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
Search for "md5 mismatch" on xda.
By the way:
When did you get this?
Because you can get this only when you flash a ROM/backup that consists of syste.img, data.img, cache.img and nandroid.md5 and GingerDX is in an update.zip, so it´s only a .zip-file that contains the /system-folder and a script that makes it flashable in a recovery, so you can´t get a md5 mismatch on this.
hey bro you need xrecovery version 0.1 and you flash it try first a Ginger DX v09 like i d then upgrade ginger dx have clockowrmod installed you can reboot in it i will post a link
Latest versions of GingerDX for X8 need CWM
and I have xRecovery installed on my stock rom. I would update first to CWM my phone and then install GingerDX v016...what I should do? I don't want to brick my phone! Anyone could explain me the correct procedure? Thanks

Flash dualboot with xrecovery then you will have cwm and xrecovery at the same time. You can find dualboot.zip from the multiboot thread

Did you Ever Wanted your Own Custom ROM? Did you don't understand other Guides? Do you don't Like ROM Kitchens? Than this Guide is the right Guide for you! Just Try It and you can create your Own Custom ROM!
General Information
So, Before we start with this Guide, i just want to tell you some General Informations about [highlight]Custom Roms[/highlight]. When you buy your phone, you will have a [highlight]Stock ROM [/highlight]installed. A [highlight]Stock ROM [/highlight] is just that Software, your Company has created, especially for your phone. It's a Software like Android 2.3.4 with Touchwiz 4 or Android 4.0.4 with Sony UI. Those Softwares may be good, but there are many Things to Improve, for the Best Xperience, while using your Phone. A [highlight]Custom ROM [/highlight]can be complete different to [highlight]Stock ROM [/highlight], like [highlight]Cyanogenmod 10 [/highlight], or be just a improved Version of the [highlight]Stock ROM [/highlight]. To Build a [highlight]Custom ROM [/highlight] you need to know a few Words, and have a Phone with Root Acess + S-OFF / Unlocked Bootloader. So in this Guide we will concentrate on the Easy Way, the [highlight]Improved Stock ROM [/highlight]. You Can also Build a [highlight]ROM [/highlight] out of Source from Google, but thats too complicated for beginners. Setting up compile envirment can be quite complicated . So let's take a look at stuff you need to know:
[highlight]Root Acess[/highlight]
Complete Acess to all System Files, like Administrator on Windows. To Root Your Phone, search XDA. Rooting your Phone is done by putting su library to /system and manage acess with SuperSu or Superuser. When you buy your Phone, it doesn't have Root Acess. Root Acess is needed for installing CWM, mount your /system as Read & Writeable ----> You can delete system files, and installing apps to /system/app, by copying them to /system/app. By Rooting your Phone you loose Warranty, but you can reinstall stock software and no one will notice
[highlight]ClockWorkMod Recovery (CWM)[/highlight]
Recovery Mode of your Phone. In Recovery you can install flashable zips and roms, wipe and format your device, mount different partititons and fix permissions... To Get CWM search XDA. There are different Ways for every Device. You can enter recovery before your device is fully booted, and since touchscreen drivers are not yet available you need to use the volume buttons for controlling the recovery. There are different ways of entering cwm for every device.
[highlight]Rom & Kernel[/highlight]
ROM means: [highlight] Read-Only-Memory[/highlight] . The Funny Thing is that we can Read and Write on our Read-Only-Memory. Anyway, its a partition which includes large parts of the OS ----> operating system of your Phone. In a [highlight]ROM[/highlight] for Android Phones are included apps, framework, libs & many more and since android is modular, there is an app for everything (keyboard, launcher, statusbar). Together with a [highlight]Kernel[/highlight] it's the "Life" of your Phone.
The Kernel is needed for a working Phone. You Can Install Stock or Custom Kernel. When you buy a Phone Stock Kernel is preinstalled of course. The kernel includes many drivers, controlls the cpu and does many more... Just rember that word
General Information
1. Install Stock ROM to your Phone - This Can be Done by Flashing via Flashtool or Odin. You Need a Clean Base to Start. Recomnend is a Stable, Official ROM, like Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich or maybe Jelly Bean.
2. Root the ROM. This Can be done with Different Tools, Very Popular is for Example SuperOneClick Tool.
Just search for "my device name root" in xda if your not sure
3. Improve Stock ROM on Your Phone. So, After You Have Installed the Stock ROM and Rooted the ROM You Can Start. Now You Need To Change Some Things, To Make the Stock ROM to a Customized ROM. You Can do a lot Things, Here are a Few Examples:
- Install Latest Superuser SuperUser
- Install Latest BusyBox Auto-Installer
- Supercharge the ROM, enable Zipalign etc.. ----> here
- Remove Bloatware. Use Es File Explorer to remove not longer needed apps in system/app partitition
- Tweak Build.prop by going with ES File Explorer to /system and editing your build.prop. now you can change the Name shown in Settings and do a lot more ----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227269
- Change the Bootanimation. You can find a lot of them by Going to themes and apps of your own device.
- Add or Change Apps. Check out Themes and Apps Selection of Your Device and Install a few Of Them, If You Are Allowed to use MooDeD Apps created by other Users
3.1 Now Delete/remove all backups in clockworkmod/backup folder
4. Now Make Sure You Have Installed CWM. If You Have Changed a Lot Things and You Think Your ROM is good enough, Boot to CWM, select wipe data/factory reset and Boot up again. If You Are Still able to Boot, Check the ROM for Bugs or Problems. Write them Down. Try to fix them. You can always take a logcat (adb logcat)
Than Boot again to CWM select wipe data / Factory reset ---> yes advanced ---> wipe battery stats ---> yes. Now Select backup & Restore ---> Backup.
5. Connect Your sd card to PC and go to Clockworkmod/backup folder. Now Go to the only 1 backup folder and copy "system.img" to your PC.
6. On PC Open Yaffey and Choose Open ---> system.img and than extract to empty folder called system.
7. Now You Will Get a Folder "system" which contains the System of your Phone. Now Create an Empty .zip file and paste in extracted Meta-inf folder Download and copy folder "system" inside. ROM should be flashable for NOW!
Remeber to mount /system before flashing // replace with mount Script for ur device... You can check this by dowoading any rom 4 ur device
NOTE: This has nothing to do with developmemt or original development in any way. Its theming a stock ROM in the simplest way...
Just Press thanks if this was helpfull in any way...
